My gf and I had an amazing time on this Friday night at Shady lady. Derrick was a breath of fresh air and so real and awesome. I’m so thankful to have had such a great night out with his amazing customer service. He deserves 1000 stars. Great person and so thankful for a great experience. Hope to come again and see him!

My kids arranged for us to have Mother’s Day brunch at the Shady Lady. We arrived just a few minutes before they opened and, once open, we were seated immediately. The menu is not huge, but there was something to suit everyone’s tastes. The portions were very generous; most everyone took home leftovers. The mimosas were very tasty and were the type that are light on the orange juice and heavy on the champagne. Coffee was good but not great.

Love jazz! Red walls huge booths! And.... ABSINTHE...a bucket list item fer sure. NOT a 1st date place it's packed, lots of background noise. Get to know each other somewhere else, if they pass, THIS is the place for staring into each other's eyes....

I haven't tried their food yet but I must say that every bartender my boyfriend and I have met has been very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Low lighting ambiance, red lighting, comfortable seating and velvet look makes for a fancy experience.

Love this place so much! The mac and cheese and NY corn are both so good. The service is great too. The manager Jose knows us and has our favorite order memorized!! Came in today and as soon as we walked in, he saw us and said hi, remembered our order, and put it in immediately! They also have live music sometimes which is a nice touch. It's right across the street from Ace of Spades so it's a great place to go before a concert. The mac and cheese croquettes and NY corn are our favorite!

The Shady Lady is fantastic! The atmosphere is perfect, laid back and not too crowded, even on their outside patio. Food is delicious and very reasonably priced, and the spice on the shrimp & grits did not disappoint! Drinks were delicious as well and the staff were very friendly, even bringing a bowl of water out for my dog who came with. Highly recommend, and will be visiting again!

Our son and his wife treated us to a birthday brunch for my wife. What a wonderful experience! The food was perfectly cooked and presented by a great server, and the ambiance of the establishment was delightful in all respects. We could not hope for a better experience, and would recommend this marvelous place without reservation...it is simply great. We hope to come back soon!

Great drinks, fun crowd with a setting that feels like out of the set from true blood. Definitely a crowd pleaser and one of my go to bars in Sacramento.

Recommended to us by other local servers/bartenders, shady lady was everything I wanted and needed it to be. Arriving to a dimly lit bar with a jazz ensemble playing while wildly hungover from a wedding in 106 degree weather, doesn’t seem ideal. But our bartender whose name escapes me cured our headaches and brain fog with wonderful service and lively conversation. Getting a caipirinha anywhere is such a treat for me. Definitely add this to your list when visiting!

We hosted a wedding reception at Shady Lady and we can't say enough positive things about the venue and their staff. Vince helped us plan the event and took all of the stress off our shoulders. He had recommendations on how to handle the food and drinks, helped us coordinate our band selection, and was there the night of to make sure everything went smoothly. We rented out the entire space, so they closed down for our private event. We had 2 bartenders (Chad and Sean) & 2 servers (Hailey & Diego), plus the door guy Jake and of course the chef. All of our guests left having had a fantastic time, and each had positive things to say about the staff they interacted with. Overall, I can't think of a single negative thing to say about the night. We were floored at how smoothly the evening went and how positive the feedback was from all of the guests. Vince made the planning so easy... easy enough that the day of, we were convinced we must have forgotten a million things because no event can be this easy. Everyone went above and beyond our expectations last night. We had such a good time and felt like VIPs the whole night. We felt like the pricing for our event/group size was more than reasonable, and we would absolutely host another event here. The vibe of the venue worked perfectly, but the special attention that the staff provided to each guest is what made it such an amazing evening.

Great spot to get the night started, tasty drinks, live music, and energetic atmosphere. Perfect for hanging out and actually being able to listen to your friends talk! I'd definitely recommend the Gin Daisy if you're looking for something fresh and citrusy with a hint of sweetness.

I went with my parents! We really enjoyed ourselves. Food and drinks were lovely and the air conditioning was FANTASTIC! Didn't feel the heat from outside at all. Our waitress was a sweetheart who rushed out to give us my Mom's seat cushion we forgot.

The 20-taco taco platter with chicharrones is worth the trip by adding the salsa and dipping sauce—Chef's Kiss. Our server was so sweet. I recommend The Shady Lady whenever you are in Sacramento.

The food selection was a little limited (apparently there used to be brunch but there is no longer?) but what I had was all pretty good. I was mostly here to hang out and read for a while and have a couple drinks for a relaxed Saturday outing, and was accommodated in this in spades. In the evenings I'm sure it's busier but at lunchtime it's nice and quiet! :)

Great happy hour menu, awesome cocktail menu. Live music on Thursdays and weekends. Kitchen is open until midnight. There are not a ton of food options but some nice small plates and a small selection of salads and entrees.

I’ve been a bartender for a couple years and can totally acknowledge the effort the staff puts into making you feel welcomed. It’s amazing. Reminiscent of old San Francisco and New Orleans, Grace, our bartender/server was gracious. The shrimp po boy sliders are a definite "yes." And the glazed brussel sprouts and garlic fries were to die-for. Also, you can't go wrong with an old-fashioned with a hint of smoke and a vodka martini, gently shaken.

Amazing cocktails. Have not tried the food yet but if they put as much time, quality and effort into the food as the drinks then I'm sure it's amazing. Food is Louisiana southern style.

wow. I really loved my food. The Caesar salad had fresh anchovies on it, which was fantastic. I hate it when you get a Cesar and all they do is give you croutons out of a bag and dressing out of a bottle. This was not that. Those jambalaya rice balls were completely unique and so tasty. And I really love fried green tomatoes which are impossible to find. at some point in the evening every member of the staff came by to say hello. I felt like I was famous. It was a great experience and it's really fun to hang out in there. A very nice environment.

Never tried a full meal here but I am giving it 5 stars for their amazingly well crafted cocktails and the house made pork rinds. I never thought I would give a damn about pork rinds but these are so on point. The dipping sauce was perfect as well - definitely a little spicy.

Youth Live at Shady Lady: Country Hill Jazz Band Over the years, I’ve enjoyed great cutting-edge craft cocktails, dinner and live music here at night. This was my first jazz brunch at Shady! I was impressed by their excellent brunch menu; flexible chef who accommodated my dairy-free needs; Desiree who efficiently provided attentive table service; bartenders who make their own house Bloody Mary spice mix; the abundance of families; and Dan-the-Man for organizing the live jazz. He hopes to make these Youth Live Jazz brunches a regular event beginning at 2 pm on Saturdays. Diners come earlier for the brunch and stay for the music.

This place saves my life, I am a 70 yr old man who has Parkinson's heart disease, and suffer from extreme anxiety and depression. All of folks that work there are extremely kind, the drinks made by the bartenders are awesome, I can't name everyone , but from the doorman to the,food,bar and bands all good. Some of the names Dan who is a manager and excellent singer or rapper Sam the waitress,Satori,I believe Nate, there are many who's names I forget but I know them on site. They remember mine and many other patrons. They care about being of Service to serve Us.I give it 50 stars like the Flag.

This place just takes grabs you and takes you somewhere, like a New Orleans setting with music to relax too. The decor is very nice with old leather… loved it… bartender busted my chops a little bit about some menus, all in good fun. He belonged there and was very professional and his drinks where killer… had a white lien and my wife had a whisky sour… must go to place.

Came here at 10pm on a Monday night for dinner and it was still busy! This is definitely not a family place (they card tou when you come in and there are pictures of scantily clad ladies or naked ladies on the walls). We had the portabella mushroom sliders and biscuits and they were both great! The mushroom sliders were amazing, a refreshing mix of caramelized onion, brie, apple, arugula, and grilled mushroom. I would come back just for the sliders! I'd love to come back to try their drinks and more menu items.They have a stage so they probably have live music certain days too!

The food was great, but my favorite part was the decor. The art and design throughout really stand out and make the experience feel intentional and thoughtfully curated. It feels like stepping into a carefully designed space rather than just a bar or restaurant. I honestly loved everything about it. I drove 2.5 hours to check it and completely loved it will definitely comeback and bring friends .

If I'm in Sacramento looking for a bar to have a drink or relax, if I want to chat with a few friends over drinks and yummy snacks, The Shady Lady Saloon is a good choice. It is located in an area with lots of good restaurants and activities at night or on weekends. The bartenders here are very friendly. The Shady Lady Saloon also has nice indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for a couple or a group of friends. Nice bar, nice people here!

It was a WHOLE vibe!!! It's dark and moody with an excellent music selection from the early 90s. Our bartender (& now new BFF) Lindsay took care of us from the moment we walked through the door until we left (many hours later)! Lindsay gave us the BEST drink selections with recipes she came up on the spot! What a gem!! It was a cold morning, so I started off with the Hot Buttered Rum to warm my bones, and it definitely worked! It was smooth, rich and delicious. I ordered the breakfast sandwich for brunch, which was good. The hash brown was a little under seasoned, so if you like a little more flavor, just ask for salt & pepper. For my second cocktail ordered the Zombie. It was tropical, refreshing and went down very easy. I would definitely come back again!!

Clean friendly atmosphere. Can be crowded but still fun. Especially if you have a flair for conversation with strangers as well as your arrival group. Limited setting, there are tables/ booths but only for ordering food and eating. I would suggest getting on the list for a booth.place to sit eat and drink. . Lastly men's room is clean can't speak on the ladies I would imagine it is also.

Visited here yesterday for a drink, just to see the place. It was smaller than I expected and very noisy. The drinks are interesting, however. They have the largest selection of cocktails I have ever seen, many of them made with traditional ingredients of yesteryear. We were hungry and would like to have eaten but there are few choices on the menu for vegetarians. I did order some mac and cheese croquettes and a rum drink and a snack. Both were very good, though the drinks are spendy. I would recommend going while they have live music for the full experience. Midday I did not feel that it was worth the price of the drink to sit in a noisy bar.

Live music almost always earns a star on its own. The ambiance matched the the name of this joint to a T. The cheddar biscuits are a MUST and the burger & fries were solid. We got there around 8:30 and seating was pretty much all taken so I'd suggest getting there early if you want good seats for the 9pm show. We got a table after about 30 minutes which wasn't bad but that waiting list filled up in hurry so folks definitely had longer wait times than us. All in all, I'd recommend a visit here for the food and live music. We'll be returning for sure.

The live band features are always a hit. Affordable drinks and eats. If only there were more seating options for patrons who are just drinking and not dining in. Bar gets busy but the bartenders hustle & serve up drinks quickly. Parking may be a challenge with curbside meters. However, there's a parking garage one block east bound on 15th & R.

Cool place. Reminds me a little of Trick Dog in SF. Their drinks are eclectic and sophisticated. I'd recommend hitting them up during happy hour, all their cocktails are $8 across the board. Try the Jameson and the Giant Peach, it's really yummy! Atmosphere is cozy, but feels a bit exclusive to new people.

Beautiful atmosphere, dark, unique. Although the mixed drinks were aesthetically pleaseing they were weak and heavily juice based. Also the bartenders are not attentive. Took 20 minutes after we finished our last drinks to cash out. We tried getting his attention several times and he literally ignored us.so we just stood there. Then we asked the bar back for the tab and my partner spelled his last name and she walked away and mocked him. It was quite rude especially since she just needed to just grab a card and run it. Notably, it was early and not a packed house.

I have been here a few times and always enjoyed it. I went last night and felt like the bartender was evading serving me, then once I finally got my drink and went to sit at a table I was stopped very rudely by him and told I could not sit there as tables were for dining only. Well, I was planning on eating and had gone there specifically for the mushroom sliders. I passed on giving them that business as it seemed they didn’t want it. Also, if you have a large sign by the door saying to seat yourself, you could at least be polite when correcting guests that they cannot, in fact, seat themselves.

Still has great atmosphere drinks are still great I feel like they dumb down the food a little bit. It been a couple of years since I had been in. Smaller than expected. Drinks were original and good, not much of a selection for food and didnt like how they sold cigars but no cigar room and you need to step outside to smoke it.

Drinks were good, however other restaurants in the area definitely executed better in our opinion. Food was fine, although honestly wouldn't come back for the food specifically. Service was friendly but could have been a bit more attentive, always had to waive someone down if we wanted to order another drink or food.

So we went for lunch and it was “so so.” The food looks great and taste, good/okay. I would not encourage their Chicken Fried Steak, it honestly made one in our party sick. The fish and chips was large, fresh and delicious. The service was nice, but forgot everything. I’ll try it again eventually, because did like to see them above 3 stars if possible. Bartender really hated his job, making sure we knew it. When asked for one of their listed N/A cocktails, the response was "is that something on the list?" and when shown the list he let us know that "you can keep showing that to me, but it doesn't mean I know what it is". Cool, dude. $15 for a Last Word with Gordon's Gin. I know this isn't the Shady it is supposed to be... Maybe it's time to reevaluate the staff.

I walked in this Bar thinking it might be a great experience. Bar tender basically acted like I was not welcome. Handed me a Drink list and walked away. Went and started a conversation with another employee. I literally had to call out to him after 10 minutes waiting for him to return. Finally made my drink. He went back to serve the other customers. I finished my drink, and again, he even glanced my way, saw my empty glass sitting in the well. Never came back. I waited another ten minutes when another guy came from the back and picked up my glass and walked away. Said nothing to me. So I put down the exact amount in cash for the drink and left. I won't be coming back. Even though the old Fashion was good! That is one of the poorest service experiences I have ever had

Was at the place Shady Lady for the first time. It's a nice live music spot. However, several people include one of the coworker was outside smoking and all smoke was blowing from the front door into place. Make the place not nice at all 😞😞😞😞😞

Cool atmosphere, but terrible service if you’re not a regular or friend of the bartenders. The bartenders would rather dance around behind the bar and chop it up with their friends instead of checking in on people waiting to order. And then once you’ve finally ordered and gotten your food (if you’re lucky, they’ll actually get your order right) they don’t give you napkins and they give you attitude when you have the audacity to ask for napkins. Never going back here again.

This place is... Interesting. Unfortunately one very rude male bartender ruined the vibe and I'm a reasonably nice person who tips well and treats staff with respect and some measure of congeniality. Not sure what was going on with dude, but his behavior was totally uncalled for. He insisted on not charging me for my drink because his attitude was so sassy in an unfun way...Of course I obliged his offer 🤣. Anyway, thankfully there are other options so no loss to me, who cares. You'll notice some reviews even report the bartender refused to make a drink because it would "take too long" although the bar was totally empty. Why even have it on the menu? Crazy talk. I anticipate the "owner" will attempt to gaslight my personal and subjective experience in the comments. If that should occur, I'm going to respectfully tell you to argue with your mother.

We went for lunch 1:30pm on a Tuesday to get some food and drinks. She gave us menus brought us waters and then NEVER came back … so after waiting 10-15 minutes we left! The place was dead, no one there so no excuses for this! The bartender/server was unresponsive and busy chatting it up with co-workers. I guess it’s a place for employees to get paid for doing absolutely nothing! Owners you need to fire your staff and find people that want to work or you will be out of business very soon. We won’t be back anytime in the future. Good luck! Menu was weak anyway like only 8 options of food. 0 beer on TAP! Went across to Ironhorse and got much better service, food and drinks! And they have tons of great beers on tap! Don’t waste you time on the LAZY LADY!

Duck tots on a Wednesday night here has been my thing for years now Ever since they started having live music on Wednesdays this place has gone down hill. The music is horrible and the duck tots just don't feel the same in mouth as they used to. I used to love to fill my mouth with hot duck tots all night here but not anymore. Never going back! I can make my own duck tots.

I’ve had several negative experiences at Shady Lady, specifically with the big male bartender who consistently shows poor manners and unprofessional behavior. On multiple occasions, I’ve heard from other women that they also found him to be creepy, which is deeply concerning for a hospitality setting. A bar should feel safe and welcoming, but his attitude and conduct create the opposite impression. Management should take these concerns seriously, as they affect both the comfort of guests and the reputation of the establishment.

0/5 (if I could give zero stars, I would) On Friday, August 22nd, 2025, I was verbally, sexually, and physically harassed by a bartender at Shady Lady. What started as a fun night with friends turned into one of the most frightening experiences I’ve ever had at a bar. While sitting at the bar with two female friends, I was suddenly grabbed from behind by a large, intoxicated bartender who reeked of alcohol and body odor. He was tall, bald, plus-sized, and I believe his name was Daniel or Darnell. He leaned in far too close and told me, “I have to let you know your back and ass is out.” I explained that I was wearing a one-piece bodysuit and that nothing inappropriate was showing. He continued to make inappropriate comments, admitted “maybe I’m out of line,” but did not back off until I firmly told him to. Instead of leaving us alone, he continued to hover, clearly intimidating my friends and me while talking about us to a group of men across the bar. When we went to pay, he came back over again. This time grabbing for my friend’s hand and telling her, “let me see your dick grabbers.” She pulled away, horrified, but he kept gesturing and trying to touch her until other (much smaller, visibly intimidated) staff members redirected him. It was obvious this bartender was extremely drunk, aggressive, and used to behaving this way. Even though some staff members tried to step in, management did nothing to stop him or protect us. The entire experience was unsafe, humiliating, and traumatic. Ladies, please be very careful if you come here. I can’t imagine how dangerous this situation could have been if I had been alone. This should never happen in an establishment that claims to be safe and professional.

If I could give a zero I would! Rude, dirty, and probably racist . First time in Sacramento and first time drinking at many months I drove 2 hours to for there cute drinks and have some fun. This was far from it... first I asked for the spring fling, online wow this drink is pretty but what he gave was a a drink with a big lemon peel in it no effort what so ever... my boyfriend got a shot and after he had drunk it we noticed that the shot glass was DIRTY not like a spot or 2 but all around the cup there was this white grime on it. We told the bar tender and he didn't even care !! He didn't offer a refund or atleast another shot... Umm do you see this nasty cup!! After the first round we were waiting for a long time and they all ignored and acted as if we were not there, us mind you it was my payday so I wanted to splurge a bit but no we left after that. with the rude staff and dirty cups I will never spend my money here again waste of 20$. Mind you we are the only colored people in there but everyone else was getting the best service it seemed if your brown or a person of color avoid at all cost they will ignore you and give you dirty used cups. We went to the taco shop a few places down and wow way better service and drinks I felt way more comfortable to spend my money there

Stopped in before a show. Expected a speakeasy, but it's more faux wild west saloon. Booths like a Black Angus. $28.88 for two cocktails before tip. Asked for a gin fizz. Bartender declined, saying it takes up to 15 minutes to make a fizz drink (empty bar). As I flip through the menu, I see a pisco sour. What takes 15 mins if you have egg whites prepped? Ordered an aviation that tasted like a gimlet. Color was wrong. No creme de violette? Same shade as the French 75, which was served with ice in a rocks glass, oddly. Beers weren't cheaper than Ace of Spades, so ultimately I wished we had gone inside the venue early.

Severely rude wait staff. I'm sure it's a nice place to hang out and have drinks but the bartender working around 7 on 1/11 was in such an atrocious mood I decided to leave immediately with my accomplice. After walking in I I approached the bar to request a drink. She was extremely curt and severe in tone, directing me to the booth where they said I could wait until they were ready. I could have just sat down and tried to forget about it but it was really off-putting. I didn't feel comfortable being there anymore so we left for another establishment where the bartender was relatively friendly and helpful.

Very unsettling experience at the bar. The bartender, a Black male, added drinks to my tab that I did not order. When I calmly pointed this out, instead of correcting the charge professionally, he gave the drink away to someone else and responded with a hostile, dismissive look. The interaction felt intentional and uncomfortable, and came across as a bullying tactic rather than customer service. This behavior was disturbing and left a very negative impression of the establishment.

Been here for new year eve, they ask for $20 / person to get in for the New Year event. Ok, it's fine, the staff told us that we can get out and get back later if we want too. So we went inside, got the drinks and still so early before countdown, and seems a bit bored here, we decided to walk out to the next bar to play games and get back before countdown, cuz we paid for ticket already, we don't wanna waste it. But when we got back around 11:30pm, they staff said No could not get in, it's ful!.!!!! I was surprised, so we the tried to sell the ticket for people to get in for the event, they didn't count how many people gone be inside and over sell it? If we know this we didn't go out. This is very misunderstanding customers. But I didn't wanna drama for new year so we just left. It's so disappointed about how they running this event. I will never go back. I used to love this pace.
