The food here was so good! We came on a Saturday night with a decent sized group of 8 people. We were seated right away and our waitress was very friendly! Everyone enjoyed their food. I had lasagna which was really tastey. We also ordered dessert to go. The chocolate torta cake was amazing!! Definitely is shareable size. It could easily serve three people. We would definitely come back!!
Great restaurant. Not in the middle of the touristy craze, so plenty of open tables. Food was very good. Meatballs were tasty. Salmon was perfectly cooked, not dry. Broccoli was perfectly steamed. Kids got plain pasta but their side of grilled chicken was even really tasty.
What a beautiful Super Douper Awesome Italian Restaurant,, Super Super Douper Delicious,, Super clean well cared for,, Sarah our server was extra extra nice,, A Plus Plus ➕️ we will definitely be back from 140 miles away,, David the General Manager came by n said hi , and Always makes sure all is great ,, we said absolutely Pork Chops my very very favorite
This is quality food. Well prepared. Would make a Nona proud. Lasagna was balanced, and excellent. It was also a ridiculous slice of meaty and cheesy goodness. Two could eat that entree. A box wasn’t a matter of if, but when. Honestly sad that I couldn’t find any space in my large body to cram in dessert, cause they looked amazing!!! Recommend. And I’m pretty sure, I’ll be back.
Loved the atmosphere! One of 4. Actually owned by a guy named Papa Vino 🍷 he apparently owns a crap ton of burger kings as well 💁♀️
Update* Porkchops, pasta, and calamari are delicious! Dinner at Papa Vino's Italian Kitchen has easily become one of my favorites in Southwest Michigan! Food: (oh...my...goodness!) Service: 5/5 (very great service!) Atmosphere: 5/5 (the vibe matched the food and service!) I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at Papa Vino's Italian Kitchen today. This restaurant is located in Saint Joseph, Michigan. I came in with two socks but left with one because the experience knocked my sock off! I had a great experience. The food was amazing! After being seated, to my surprise, I was served with some hot bread and some herb oil to go with the bread. I enjoyed that before my meal. The meal I enjoyed was called Baci & Prosciutto. Great pasta purses stuffed with prosciutto and parmesan with caramelized leeks (so fragranent and delicious) in a romano cream sauce. I look forward to trying other menu items. The service was phenomenal! Sarah was great! She was attentive, was on top of refilling drinks, and wanted to help. The staff here at Papa Vino's Italian Kitchen are amazing. The atmosphere reminded me of most Italian restaurants, but this place was super comfortable. I love the background music, the smells, and the beautiful touch of decor. The atmosphere was amazing. All in all, I enjoyed my experience at Papa Vino's Italian Kitchen. I'm looking forward to the next time! 🔥
Update 3/19/25. I returned today and ordered a sizzilini with Italian sausage. The dish was amazing. Previous review: I ordered the Rigatoni Alla Nonna. Rigatoni with chopped meatballs, braised beef, and goat cheese covered in meat sauce. One of the best dishes that I have ever had.
I have no idea what the food tastes like, but this chocolate cake is unbelievably good!!!! I've been coming to St Joe for 30 years and only found this place on the Google reviews. After the annual downtown Chili Walk we wanted to try somewhere we'd never been, so we came here. Nice bar with a great bartender and nice mature folks at the bar. We ordered some wine and dessert. The bartender helped me pick this. It ended up being right up there with the best chocolate cake I've ever had!!! And, it is HUGE!!! 3 people could split it easily. If you're in the area and you've done all the beachy stuff, get over here!!!! Great place!
Unbelievably authentic Italian Margarita Pizza! I had to come back and put another one before driving back to home. Price was so reasonable that I had to double check the amount.
Papa Vino's saved our night!! next time we plan on dining in! after a rough night with the wifey due to some cell phone craziness (wish we lived in the old school days) we arrived at our hotel much later than expected. Hungry, tired and in need of some tastes of Italy we placed the order around 8:45 and picked it up to eat at the hotel! I couldn't have been happier and we can't wait to come back and try again but it will truly be a night to remember in many many ways......but at least we won't remember falling asleep hungry!!
The lasagna was good, tho not really hot. Still, very tasty. When I asked for basil to be added in my soup, it was done. The house chardonnay was not too dry, the way I like it, and the serving was ample. The main course servings were big enough that some of us didn't have room for desert. The tortellini tasted good, but it was a little too well done. The service was excellent; very attentive, but not annoying. Over all a nice experience. ------------- Second visit. The sizzlini with steak and mushrooms was good. The steak was done to perfection. The mushrooms came on strong. Next time I'll order it without them. But it was still very good. The margarita pizza was good, not the best, but very good. Our server, Sarah, behind the mask, was good, accurate, patient, and friendly. Don't forget to help out by "like"ing reviews and photos you like.
Papa Vino's is one of the best pasta places around. You'd be hard pressed to find a dish on the menu that wasn't fantastic. This location executed beautifully also, service and in the kitchen. Stopped there twice on a recent business trip and will definitely be back any chance I get.
Arrived 30 minutes early, and we were seated immediately. Julia was great. The portions were great and the best we have had in the last 5 years of travel.
Perfect spot for a Sunday night dinner especially when just about every other restaurant closes early Sunday. Not only was the food good but our server was very attentive. We were not disappointed!
I'm Grateful I Discovered the Best Authentic (and most Delicious) Italian Restaurant in Southwest Michigan! Gustatorially,my chicken parmesan meal was phenomenally tasty. I couldn't have had a better chicken parm for carryout in my happiest of dreams. I'm so grateful for the huge portion size - 3 (woah!) crispy breaded, juicy chicken breasts covered in carmelised parmesan cheese, sweet tomato sauce with fresh tomatoes on a bed of perfectly cooked spaghetti. The complimentary bread was like gourmet, rustic italian bread from Italy. This was so satisfying and pleasantly filling and truly delicious. Thanks for an amazing dinner, Papa Vino's. I look forward to more!😀 Kindest Regards, John Thomas Kooz, CPSS, CPC
Nothing extraordinary about the service, the food was very good. I tried their signature "sizzleini" with shrimp. They serve the meal to you hot and literally sizzling in the pan! The restaurant's flavours are neat, as well as the atmosphere. The music is very nice, and they have good bread with garlicy oil.
Been coming to this place for the last 3 years whenever we’re in town and it’s never let us down! The food is always phenomenal and the service has been a 10/10 every single time! There hasn’t been a dish I’ve tried that I didn’t like! If you’re ever in the area I highly recommend stopping in for a nice meal!
Went for an early Mother's Day dinner. Our group had everything from Appetizers, Pizza, Salads & Desserts! All looked and tasted delicious! I had the Brochetta Appetizer, Salmon Florentine (Poached) with Broccoli, Papa Side Salad and a huge piece of Carrot Cake! Soooo Delicious! Naptime now!
Drove from Grand Rapids because we miss you in West Michigan! I hadn't been in over a decade and it was every bit as good as I remembered! Thank you!
The service was a bit slow, but the food was great and the atmosphere was relaxing. My wife had the toasted ravioli and loved it, so if your a fan of cheese, this is a must. The Alfredo here is also very good, ritch and creamy.
Stopped here on a whim tonight for an Italian meal. Walked in to a clean restaurant and a hostess who was friendly and sat us quickly. Our server Lauren was at the table within 30 seconds introducing herself and taking our drink orders. The recommendation was the Baci and Prosciutto was what she highly recommended trying and WOW, was she spot on! It was amazing and I would highly recommend it. The gnocchi too was very good and the chocolate dessert and canolli finished it nicely! The freshly hand made pasta dishes were simply amazing but I have to say that the all around service was equally amazing! Our server Lauren made our first time visit to Papa Vino's wanting our family to come back on our next travel through. I have traveled all over the world and have been served by countless waiters and she was first class! If you are passing through and have a craving for some amazing Italian dishes, make the 4 minute drive off the freeway and stop here. Your stomach and those your traveling with will thank you!!
What a great dinner here at Papa Vino's with Kelsi as our server! I'm so impressed with her knowledge of all the dishes that I asked questions about and her recommendations turned out to be great. We enjoyed our experience so much that I'll definitely be writing this down as a restaurant that I want to visit again. Very clean and a very happy atmosphere, thank you for a wonderful dinner!
Totally recommend Great food, better than Tosis, and cost less. I've wanted to eat here since I moved to St. Joseph, I knew it would be great, and it is! There portions are great for one sitting, probably 600 calories, you can easily order desert and finish it. The seating was comfortably sized and the lighting was a romantic mood. Atmosphere, classical Italian American music and some Jazz. If there are too many people, you'll definitely hear larger tables and you may be offended there are too many personal conversations going on. Not terrible spacing between people, but could be better. I like having space to not be spied on or have to watch my conversation. Most everything on the menu is $20, the desert is all from $8 to $13. Expect a date with desert and a bottle of wine to cost $100 to $120. My wife and I are younger and from out of state (New England) so we precived some age discrimination, but after we obviously were buying a lot of food the waiter seemed nicer. Not terrible, but we've seen it since living in SW Michigan.
Excellent service. Host didn't seem very happy but my server, meal, dessert and overall experience made me feel good about coming back. Chicken Parnesan and Salad. Good portion size. Bread and Olive Oil mix was a nice touch. Had Carrot Cake to go. Definitely will be back!
Food was delicious and accurate, everything went well. Jennifer was our server and did an excellent job.
Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name of our waitress, but she was fantastic! She was so kind and friendly. My 4 yr old granddaughter said halfway through our meal “she is so nice”. Customer service never goes unnoticed, even from a four-year-old . Thank you for making our lunch wonderful.
10/4/25: This was a date night for us and it was so good! Stan was our waiter and he did a great job with explaining about the butternut pecan ravioli and giving great service! He went out if his way to make sure my husband got his strawberry daiquiri!! Thank you!! We were seated in the bar and our waitress/bartender was Hailey!! The service she gave us was amazing! The food and beverages were superb!
Who ever the cook was on Monday 10/13 around 5pm that made the Pepperoni Pizza with extra pepperoni, well done deserves a RAISE! Literally the best pizza I’ve ever had at Papa Vinos and I eat there frequently! They need to teach everyone there how to cook pizza! It was not super doughy and was not burnt it was Perfecto!!!! 👏👏👏🔥🥰🔥🥰🔥🥰🔥🥰 Our server was wonderful too! 😍
Stopped in for a Sunday afternoon meal. Absolutely delicious dishes. Waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Will return! Fair prices, perfect portions and very tasty.
Great food. Quiet atmosphere. Excellent service and they don't rush patrons to churn the tables.
Papa Vino's is an tilapia's chain much like olive garden, only higher quality. I've been to several locations. The saint Joseph location did not disappoint in the least. A perfect place to get dinner after watching the sunset over lake Michigan.
Good Italian food here. I had the chicken tortellini. The Tuscan potatoes were also pretty good. Price was reasonable. Old time Sinatra type music in the background.
Just had an anniversary dinner at Papa Vino's and had a wonderful time. The waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable. While the food too k a but to come to the table, every bite was worth the wait. I definitely recommend the appetizer sampler and the Papa's Trio looked hard to beat!
Lovely and nicely paced dinner to be had as our first experience at Papa Vino's. A very invigorating Pomegranate Martini to start off with. We devoured a fresh loaf of bread accompanied by an infused olive oil with a sprinkling of crunchy roasted garlic pieces. A pleasant change. Our dinners were flavorful and a perfect portion size. My daughters Linguine Pescatore all but disappeared with plenty of mussels and shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce. My Shrimp and Asparagus with a fresh pasta had a delicious cream sauce. However, I found the fresh pasta lacking in its doneness. Not a perfectly executed dish. The MOD Brian stopped at our table to discuss the matter.... and offered to take the item off the bill. Nice to know some restaurants adhere to the protocol of guest retention. Thank you for making it up to us.... I'm looking forward to our to-go dessert and will certainly be back again when visiting the area to give a 5-star review that I know you're capable of
We were a party of 16. Sara was our server... She was awesome! We had a entree that was brought to the table late. She apologized and took care of us. Management,... I did not witness them greeting any of the customers in the restaurant. I am in the hospitality businessmen, this was could be a reason why the restaurant is at 30% on a Sunday afternoon.
We made a reservation for 9 people, they seated us with 2 square tables put together with barely enough room for each person to even set a plate. Waitress was nice but clearly overwhelmed taking care of so many tables. Half of the food was cold, calamari was rubber, pizza was dry, Alfredo pasta dry with little sauce. Wouldn't recommend for family dinners.
Lunch experience is always wonderful. Birthday dinner, not so much. I told the server it was my birthday and asked if they still give a free meal, as some other Papa Vino's do in other states. She said "No, we don't do that", as if I offended her. I then showed her my coupon for Papa's Club for a free appetizer and asked if we could get free dessert instead. She agreed. Service was poor from that point on - it's not difficult to smile and ask how the food tastes, is everything ok? None of that. The place was not crowded - this was just before 5pm on a Wednesday. We would have had another glass of wine but she took forever so we decided against that and left. We did get the dessert for free, but it was obviously a challenge for her to say 'Happy Birthday'. The acoustics are terrible - we could hear every detail of the conversations from two different tables quite a distance from us.
Nice restaurant. We ordered eggplant parmigiano, baked cheese ravioli, and tiramisu. The eggplant in the parmigiano was raw, undercooked, and hard to chew. The ravioli was excellent. The tiramisu was very good.
I was extremely disappointed with this restaurant because of the lack of flavor in their food and the poor service provided. Considering the amount we paid, the value for money was especially disappointing given the food quality. Additionally, they had the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat on. I recommend they invest in a new approach and new chairs to enhance the overall dining experience. Won’t come back for sure.
How are places like this rated 4 and over? The pizza had a rock hard crust, and the edge of the crust, which is the hardest part, seemed to take up 50% of the pizza. The toppings tasted like something on the cheapest frozen pizza you can find at the grocery store. As for the atmosphere, it is one of the most bland, generic restaurants I’ve ever been in. I’m giving it 2 stars because it didn’t make me physically sick.
Don’t order take out from here just sit down and eat. I can’t begin to explain all that was wrong with my order so screw it. If you eat inn you’ll be fine
Take out. Was largely ignored trying to pick up an order that turns out was sitting there the whole time. $68 order and most of it was horrible. It was late afternoon order and pretty sure the bus boy was filling in as cook. Seriously disappointed this time. I have previously loved eating here and was just shocked at how bad the take out was.
Nice music and seating. I enjoyed the bread and olive oil. We had a pepperoni pizza for an appetizer, it was also good, had some good pepperoni on it. Daughters had good meals and enjoyed their food, my wife got glutened by a supposed gluten free dish. DO NOT order the ribeye steak and shrimp. Shrimp was fine, potatoes and green beans good. My steak was FULL of stringy grissel throughout, super super fatty too. Nobody should have ever even tried to sell that thing. Waitress was pretty rude. I did tip her almost $30 on a $130 and change bill, so hopefully she treated her next party a little better. Really overall has potential, but dear Lord do NOT order a steak here. And if you have dietary restrictions I would recommend somewhere else.
The service was okay. Took the server a while to get to our table but that she got our drinks and salads out quickly after ordering. The chicken parm was made out of basically large chicken nuggets. You get three and they are literally big chicken nuggets you can tell by the meat when you cut in and they are all the same shape and size. $21.49 for 3 big chicken nuggets and overcooked spaghetti with Ragu sauce.
The service was unfriendly, and I was served a wine cup with lipstick on it. Additionally, our eggplant Parmesan came out burnt and crispy black. There were no real apologies for these issues. Given all this, I would not recommend this place, although the rest of the food was okay.
I ordered DD and tipped from the app when i palced order... got a email after it was picked up saying half the order wasn't available and they refunded the items... We'll i tipped on the app based on the amount I spent... when the order arrived nothings is sealed and preety sure they ate half my 15 dollar app.. DD alows you to order items that are not available then tells you before it's sent so if you tip based on the amt you are out.. Tip cash when you get it and hope the place seals orders .. lesson learned...
Got seated and waited 25 minutes before finally asking to be seen by our server (she finally came 10 minutes after that)… the tables next to us remained dirty for the entire hour and a half we were there. More and more dirty tables were left around us while we ate. Upon going to the bathroom before leaving, we realized that just about every table in the restaurant was just left dirty. (We arrived at 8:00, 2 hours before close).
Food was not as described. The Gnocchi is not worth $16 which was described as potato pasta with fresh mozzarella and basil with a tomato base sauce. Secondly service was slow just lacking hospitality altogether. I approached the checkout to pick up my order said hello to the man standing there he just looked at me walked away. I waited few minutes for a young lady to approach who informed me my order will be another 5 minutes. I sat waited 15 minutes received cold food. My gnocchi was a complete disappointment. See photo of what I received.
The pasta in the dishes could really use some massive improvement in taste. They’re overcooked, under salted, and bland. The dish sauces do not help the pasta either. The tomato sauce on the chicken parm was highly acidic. The lemon sauce in the scallopini was under salted and bland too. Both chicken was cooked perfectly, not dry.
VERY disappointed. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and chose this restaurant for our celebratory dinner. When we walked in it appeared clean and decorated nicely. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who promptly seated us. First came the bread with oil. It was good, not great, just good. Then we ordered a side salad and meatball appetizer. The dressing was very sweet, but decent. The meatballs were a great texture but mediocre in taste. The tomato sauce was also mediocre. Frankly, it tasted canned. We both got the lasagna/chicken parm dish. The lasagna was awful. The pasta was overcooked and mushy inside. Very bland. The meat sauce was not good at all. Big chunks of tasteless meat and very bland taste. Now for the chicken parm. WOW. Hands down the worst ever. The piece of chicken was definitely a frozen patty. Pre-formed (kind of triangle shaped) and pre-cooked, and then heated up. There was a slight freezer burn taste. It defintely was not an authentic cutlet like an Italian restaurant. The pasta underneath was overcooked and room temp, not hot. Olive Garden on a bad day is so much better, and that is sad. Because to us, Olive Garden is fast-food Italian. We both left our plates over 75% full, and we were hungry. Our waitress was nice but her service was slow. We declined dessert. Our bill was $70+. We did not complain or let this ruin our evening, but wow was that disappointing. I cannot believe people actually like this place. I REALLY can't. It's the next day and I still feel the same as I did last night, lol. I bet the alcohol was good, though. (We did not indulge). We will never go back.
