Opinions de The Lexington Saint Paul
This is a St. Paul staple! For years the food has been delicious. My family has celebrated a number of holidays here and we've never been let down. Recently, I took a friend for restaurant week to experience their charm. Our food was delicious and we've created a routine to meet here for happy hour.
My recent visit to The Lexington in St. Paul was nothing short of fantastic! The rooftop patio provided a perfect setting for a lovely evening. Our server was attentive and friendly, enhancing our dining experience. I had the salmon and asparagus special as part of the Twin Cities Restaurant Week, and it was absolutely delicious. The flavors were outstanding, and the dish was perfectly cooked. To top it off, the chocolate cake served as dessert was a delightful treat. I highly recommend The Lexington to anyone looking for a great dining experience in St. Paul. From the ambiance to the service and the food, everything exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be returning in the future.
I could not speak more highly of a restaurant. I went to The Lexington for my birthday this year and it was probably one of the best decisions I will have made this year! The food and drinks were phenomenal, the woodwork incredible, and it was the best service I’ve ever received. In a way it has ruined dining out for me, because they have set the bar so high. I can’t wait to go back!
I came here with family and friends and loved it!! The waiters were VERY VERY polite. They even have nightly discussions of how the day has gone/what they can improve on, which is fantastic! It is always good to reflect on one’s work. It is a very fancy restaurant and quite easy to get lost in, but if you ask for help you will find your place. They had live music playing too, which is super fun to watch and listen to. Shown below: lobster spaghetti and one of the nightly chef specials.
Had a fantastic experience dining at The Lexington this past weekend! The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and so was the food! Our server made wonderful recommendations, 2 of which we took her up on, and we weren't disappointed. Please make time for a full course meal, including drinks, as this delight should not be rushed. The only minor thing that could be critiqued, but hard to avoid, is that we were seated right next to the window looking into the kitchen where they cook certain meals over a hardwood fire. We left smelling of smoke! Just a lingering reminder of our magical dinner at The Lexington!
Wow! This place is what dining is like in older movies. Swanky, posh and phenomenal food. Just a wonderful experience! The drinks are crafted precisely. By that, I mean the bartender takes their time and does right. Well done. We went (unbeknownst to us) during "Restaurant Week." So they had an added menu just for the occasion. The Texas Tenderbites (listed as an appetizer) were delicious and addictive. We wanted more but thankfully refrained. The Butternut Squash Soup was absolutely superb! You have to try it. Next was the Diane (steak). The rich smokey flavor was mouthwatering! I have to say, I couldn't bear to use the sauce that came with it due to the flavor being so amazing. We capped it off with one chocolate cake and one key lime pie. They're dessert, so they're rich and filling. But good Lord were they incredible! The service was spot on. Tim was our server and was fantastic! One thing to mention is that there is parking in the back. But, the parking lot is very small and there's only one way in and out. So you might want to be prepared to park elsewhere. Just a heads-up. This is a must visit! I hope this helps. Cheers!
What a wonderful date night. We did not plan to go to Lexington, but decided on a whim. We found seats at the bar and had one of the best steaks you can find in the twin cities. Their secret sauce is a wood burning fire. The mashed potatoes, oh lord the mashed potatoes… Cocktails were on point. Service excellent. And priced adequately for an excellent steak house.
We came here for my wife's birthday. The food is next-level and the service is both welcoming and professional. Their take on a steak tartare is Thai-style laab nua tartare. It's incredible. The meatloaf Wellington is amazing, the drinks are amazing, everything is amazing. I wish I had more stars to give. I could wax poetic about this place for pages, but I hope some photos will do the trick instead. If you've never been to The Lexington, make the journey.
We had a wonderful dinner, the music and ambiance was we nice but a touch loud to talk over. We would highly recommend the lobster, cauliflower cheese dip for an appetizer! The porterhouse was absolutely delicious with a side of seared scallops! There was something so amazing about the baked potato I think it might have been the creaminess of the butter or sour cream.
What a wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary. I highly recommend the pot pie 🥧 . We enjoyed dinner in the main dining and then had an after dinner drink / dessert in the bar to listen to the Jazz Band 🎺🎷. The service was outstanding!
We have lived in the St Paul area for 14 years and can't believe we never ate here. The walleye cakes are on another world level of tasty and the Caesar salad may be the best I have had in my life. They were out of the wine we ordered but they gave us a higher priced bottle in place of it. Ask for Ashton as your waiter, he is fabulous. There were some slight miscues: out of order mashed potatoes (which was amazing) came to the table without our entrees, an extra appetizer came too, and they were out of the chicken pot pie (nooooooooooo!!!! Must come back I guess). The gnocchi was also incredible, wow! Last thing I will say, the atmosphere is fantastic if you like a dimly lit lounge and Sinatra music. The Moscow Mule on tap might be the best ever.
We went here for a nice meal on a Saturday night. We were 10 minutes early for our 6 pm reservation and we were seated right away. The waitstaff we're friendly and efficient. They have a full bar and daily specials. There were 5 of us so we ordered 5 entrees and 3 sides and shared the sides family style. The food was delivered to the table quickly and piping hot. Drinks were filled on a regular basis. For dessert we shared 2 bowls of Ice cream to share. A very nice dining experience.
Rooftop patio is great! The atmosphere is exciting and vibrant. Music is upbeat and not too overpowering. The bartender Matt is awesome! He’s relaxed and chill. I had the coconut shrimp and enjoyed them. It was a little hard to eat as the shrimp do not slide off the skewer very well. The red sweet and sour dipping sauce could use a little more flavor too but overall, it was good. The chilled slushy rose was a nice summer treat. Refreshing and not too sweet. I’d recommend a reservation as downstairs looked pretty busy. Watching the sunset go down over the foliage is peaceful. Great date spot!
Fantastic experience! We sat at the bar for dinner and had very attentive and knowledgeable bartenders. I would highly recommend this to anyone. The presentation of our dishes was 10/10! I had the Cesar salad and onion soup 9/10. Service 10/10. Atmosphere 8/10.
Spontaneous stop at this historic restaurant! Always a wonderful experience! We had to sit at the bar because it was full reservations on a Saturday night. Enjoyed the lamb meatballs, muscles and fries and a beautiful Bordeaux. Moved to the jazz bar where they had live music and our favorites bartender, Andrew! Make sure to put this fantastic restaurant on your list!
We live in the neighborhood and decided on a date night. We had an amazing dinner. Food, service and atmosphere were top shelf. I had the center cut Ribeye cooked rare with bone marrow butter. AMAZING! I can't say enough in one review to do the Lex justice. We'll be back for sure and soon! Oh, our server, Sage was awesome and we hope to see her again.
All around vibes ! Food has its own flavor for each item, servers all worked together & food came out fast. Bonnie our server told us the backstory of this 90 year old gem & suggested amazing drinks and food . Love her and The Lexington. Will be back!!!
The Lexington offers great food and friendly service, with a more relaxed vibe on the rooftop. We had a wonderful dining experience, and the birthday ice cream made for a special memory for my son.
If you have not been to the Lexington, you need to go. Philip or server was the best and he showed around the restaurant after our meal. The food was excellent but a little pricey, but i feel like it is worth it.
We had our wedding reception in the Williamsburg Room at The Lex back in September and it was everything we could have dreamed of and more. We had an intimate wedding with about 50 guests and our vision was what I described as a "JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette wedding vibe combined with a classy Jazz Supper Club feel" And it couldn't have been more perfect than to do it in such a sophisticated and historic building. The food was delicious and the service was IMPECCABLE. Not only did we feel like we were A-list stars, but our guests felt that way too. Minda was an absolute dream to work with during the planning and during the day of - no question was too big or too silly. She was so helpful and made sure I was taken care of every step of the way! I don't live locally, which made it a little more tricky for the planning process, but she'd go out of way to send me pictures and videos of the space to help me with all the little planning details! Even my MOH gushed about how wonderful it was to coordinate with her. The bartenders and waitstaff epitomized the vintage Supper Club feel, with perfect service and just being so incredibly friendly. The best part was, I had my nieces and nephews in attendance and the bartenders didn't just make them kiddie cocktails - they went all out to make them fancier concoctions than I usually receive at a normal cocktail bar! (I included a fun little picture and video as an example!) A special shoutout to Andrew who really went all out and even got my nephew a fun little hat while making one of the drinks. The kids all had so much fun just from the entertainment of their drinks. It has been 8 months since our wedding and my guests will STILL randomly talk about how amazing our reception was and how fantastic Andrew is. We have never experienced a bartender as amazing as him and I hope he knows just how much we appreciate that he brought so much fun and laughter to our reception. I even had guests from Philly concocting ideas on whether they could fly him out for their own wedding. :) We can't wait to come back and visit!!
The food and service is top tier. This is our first time coming here and I have to say this restaurant is top of our list for Minnesota. The ambiance is perfect. Not too loud, you can hold a conversation without raising your voice. We came for my birthday and they took a picture as well as giving an extra dessert. Eric was delightful and knowledgeable he made our evening wonderful. If you hesitate to come try it on restaurant week and you’ll see why it’s so popular. We loved everything we tried. One of my favorite things were the walleye cakes. We also loved that there were a few mocktails to enjoy.
Simply delightful! The food here is incredible, from appetizers all the way through to dessert. My salmon was melt-in-your-mouth perfect, and the cheesecake was fantastic. I loved the Last Word cocktail too. You can tell they pay attention to every detail. Add in a wonderful server and a great old-school vibe with genuine service, and you've got a winner!
Came with the misses and friend for thanksgiving. Food and service were first class with a old school atmosphere. Might make this a new tradition!
The food was outstanding. Most of our group had steak. They were done to perfection. You could cut the fillet with a butter knife. The lobster/ cauliflower mac & cheese appetizer had large chunks of lobster. Service excellent. The atmosphere warm and inviting.
My husband and I decided to try this place out for a date night. This was our first time here. Service was top notch, great atmosphere, and the food was delicious. We ordered the filet and the whipped mashed potatoes. The food was incredible. Definitely will be back!
We took advantage of Restaurant Week and chose the The Lexington! What a great choice! The menu choices, quality of the food, ambiance and customer service was outstanding!!! We had a great evening with friends. Our sever, John, made the evening perfect! We will be going back and soon. In the past, we celebrated many family milestones there. We had not been back in many, many years … our loss. The Lexington is not to be missed. It is still a gem in St. Paul!!
8 in our party and EVERYONE was happy with their meal. Service was Excellent!! At times we had 4 waiters tending our table. Very pleasantly surprised at end of meal with warm, individual hand towels. We can't wait to return!
Dinner with family to celebrate the Christmas season and The Lexington didn't disappoint. The staff were very astute to our needs and even received an extra Brandy old fashioned (The Wisconsinor) as the bartender "made 1 too many". Had never been and will be going back.
Amazing experience!!! The food was incredible, drinks were delectable, and the staff were very kind, welcoming, and attentive - thanks to our server Sage! We went on a night they had Jazz playing as well, and it was beautiful, really topped off a nice evening.
We just finished celebrating a birthday dinner here. We ordered a lot of food, including the chateaubriand, the steak tartare, the lobster cauliflower Mac n ' cheese, and the halibut, along with several sides. I'm not gonna lie, we were somewhat demanding of our waiter, who was 100% class and delivered promptly and without error. The entire service team was fast, efficient, and kind. The food was timed, prepared, and presented absolutely perfectly. The chateaubriand and steaks were perfect medium rare, tender and delicious. The fries were crispy and hot. The asparagus side was delightful and the portions for everything were generous. We were located in the bar area, which had a boisterous noise level, but that’s to be expected on a Saturday night, and honestly lent a bit to a party atmosphere. Overall, the service was contentious and the food will have us remembering our celebration fondly for years to come. Thank you, Lexington!
Can't speak highly enough of our dining experience here. The food options are amongst the absolute best in this area. Not to mention the staff are amazing, professional, and highly entertaining. This place is a must stop if you're in the area especially for a special occasion. Highly recommend the area that overseas the kitchen as you can witness the outstanding meal you're about to consume with the impeccable kitchen.
Classic, classy throwback to a dining experience truly reminiscent of the supper club era! Valet, coat check, etc. Food is consistently excellent. Service is highly attentive. Atmosphere is classy but unpretentious. ... Quality comes at a price, of course. It's a place to go to celebrate a special occasion. Recommended. $250 for two, with two drinks each plus 22% tip.
Smooth jazz, vintage atmosphere, and incredible food & drink. Thank you so much, Andrew, for one of the best nights out we've ever had. You are a cocktail genius. The whole staff made us feel so embraced and welcome.
A fantastic donning experience. We enjoyed dinner in the Wilmington Bar while a three l-piece jazz band played. Mr. Ritacco greeted us warmly while seated at our table. And the food - exceptional, both the ribeye streak and pork chops. Look forward to returning again soon!
We get together with a small group of friends and family to meet and eat and dine in memory of those that passed before us be enjoyed a great steak house. The Lexington did not disappoint. The place was packed but our server was beyond fabulous. The food, the wine and the drinks were perfect. The ambiance is classy. Just try it for yourself
We had such a great time here! Food and drinks were delicious. Our server was super attentive and helped me navigate the menu as I am gluten free. I recommend The French Martini (don’t be shy to ask for a couple extra cherries with it too). I think we lucked out on the soup of the day as it was a chicken and wild rice soup (gluten free) and they had some gluten free dinner rolls with it that were to die for! I can’t remember the last time I had a dinner roll that tasted like that—so good! I would love if they made this soup part of their daily menu—I would go back so often for it! The steak was cooked to perfection! I will need to pace myself a little better next time so I have space to try dessert. We are looking forward to coming again soon!
The service is close to perfection! We felt well taken care of and the server lady was attentive without intrusive checking on us. Relaxing ambiance on the rooftop. Well organized and clean, inviting area. The food - the lobster bisque was good, the walleye cakes are to die for but the almond crust Gorbachev fish special has a lot to be desired. Because we had a not so great experience with the entree, the restaurant comped us a dessert. We were ok with that. Cocktails are good but super pricey. Overall with an appetizer, 1 soup, 1 main dish and a comped dessert, 2 old fashioned and a non alcoholic cocktail, our check came to over $150. I would expect the food to wow me for that price.
The Lexington has not lost its historic and romantic appeal. The food was excellent, the service (ask for Charlotte) was even better, and the whole evening was worth the investment. If you like an English Manor Home feel with an old world atmosphere, and contemporary service, and cocktails, this St. Paul icon is a good bet. It’s not a budget friendly pick, but if you like quality, you probably won’t be disappointed. UPDATE we went to the bar for happy hour and everything was amazing! Service, food, atmosphere!
The service was top notch! The roof top dining was perfect, large area, it’s own bar cutely decorated and plenty of umbrellas. The server we had he was probably one of the best that we have had in a long time, attentive, informative and made the experience from good to great. I really enjoyed the ny strip steak, it was lightly seasoned with salt and had a nice mild hint of smoke, cooked as requested and good natural flavor. We also enjoyed the pan roasted half chicken. Meals come with complimentary bread and butter. The beverages we ordered were all really good, we had the aviation, the draft mule, sampled the drink of the day and had wine with our meal. The main level inside seating was more in the fancy supper club side and rooftop I felt fine being more causal. Nice place to treat yourself once in awhile!
I really wish I could give The Lexington 5 stars. The rooftop patio is exceptional and very dog-friendly. They also make fabulous mixed drinks. And service we received from Rey and the rest of the staff was top notch. Unfortunately, the vegan burger was dry, salty and served on a gluten-free bun that is inedible. The onion rings are “ok”… they were crispy and nicely breaded, but very salty. We will definitely be back for the rooftop ambience, exceptional service and tasty drinks, but are unlikely to order food.
The place had a fancy vibe that looked like it was suitable for business meals. Most people were dressed in a corporate manner even when it was on a weekend. The food was excellent and the service was on point! The waiters were wearing uniforms that showed that they were a restaurant with class. My only critique was that it was slightly expensive. As much as it was a fancy restaurant and I did not expect the price to be cheap, the quality and price still had an imbalance in my opinion. We did not manage to try the chicken pot pie because it was out of stock, so we will be back to try that next time!
It was my first time at The Lexington. Very typical, hard to find a parking spot. We had to pay at a lot across the street. Inside consists of several smaller rooms, each with a different appeal. The drinks were excellent. I would recommend the Sidecar or the number 9, very smooth. Two of the four meals were a miss. My wife had the lobster spaghetti. She felt it was way too salty. My cousin ordered the whitefish and she said the same. I had the pot pie, which I highly recommend. Another guest had the filet and he said that was great. Upon hearing the two meals weren't great, a manager approached and instantly offered refunds on those dishes, which was a nice touch. I would give them 5 stars if not for the meals. However, I still recommend and will go back. Just back off on the salt and we're good.
My friends and I ate dinner on a Wednesday night in the fancy (stuffy) dining room. Next time we should try the bar or jazz room. Service was excellent food was good. The beet salad was the best dish I ate. The lobster toast was okay, I won’t get that again. Vesper cocktail was another highlight!
While the steak and compound butters weren't super impressive, they were not bad. Everything else was truly great, the mashed potatoes and asparagus in particular were very good. The service was really fantastic, amazing attention to detail. We were there for a birthday and they even took a picture of our group and printed it for us on photo paper.
Decided to make a trip to The Lexington as an homage to the spooky month of October since it is allegedly haunted. The ambiance of the restaurant is as one would expect if a place that dates back to the 1930s. It's a cozy atmosphere, and perfect for a date night. Our waitress was very polite and gave us her suggestions. She was attentive and we never felt like we were left hanging at any point. Our appetizer was the lobster and cauliflower dip, followed by the Lobster Spaghetti and Whitefish Gorbachev. Both dishes were great, the appetizer was ok. I feel like the lobster that was in the spaghetti was better, sweeter and less "fishy" tasting if that makes sense the fish was refreshing with a nice crust on it. The spaghetti was nice and thick and the lobster was a nice touch to it. I feel like there was a good amount of lobster on the dish as well. Overall, I think the Lexington was nice. I think it's pricing correlates closely with it's history and status as a good and well known restaurant in the area. I don't think I can definitely say that the quality of the food matched the cost as nothing I had was truly mind blowing, but The Lexington was certainly worth the trip and I think next time I may consider some of the steak options in lieu of the pasta.
Came here for my girlfriend’s birthday and it was definitely a 4/5 for me! The atmosphere was quiet enough for us to relax, talk, and enjoy dinner. The food was amazing—everything came out flavorful and well-prepared. Our server was knowledgeable and such a good sport, going along with our shenanigans throughout the night, which made the experience even better. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a nice, elegant dinner with a comfortable vibe.
Visited on a Wednesday evening during Restaurant Week. It was packed. We got a table in the corner, tucked behind the bar. Our server was attentive but busy as all of her other tables were in a different room. We tried each of the specials they offered, Caesar salad, walleye cakes, salmon, steak, grasshopper pie, & chocolate cake. $45 per person was a fair price. We were celebrating our anniversary and they brought an extra dessert (ice cream) as a gift.
The Lexington is a gorgeous venue, and our Thanksgiving visit featured excellent food and superb cocktails. However, the pacing and communication fell short. We were told the bar would alert us when our table was ready, but the notification came only via text and wasn’t caught by our companion. Once seated, our server seemed disengaged—apps were slow, several items were unavailable (which we overheard from another table before being told ourselves), and she was unaware the bar stopped serving at 9pm. We had to flag her down to place last-call drink orders. She was pleasant, but the service felt uncoordinated. At these prices, you expect smoother execution.
My order was cross contaminated As a courtesy I called them. The manager said I should tell the waiter not to cross contaminated my food the next I go there. I got a better idea.
We made anniversary reservations for 8.30pm, and arrived at 7.30 (our choice to sit at the bar and wait; stating if anything was available to let us know). At 8.35 we checked with reception and they had seemingly forgotten about us and said they could seat us immediately. We were sat with our drinks from the bar and the server told us that it looked like we were ok, so she would be back shortly to see if we needed anything. We waited 25 minutes with no opportunity to order an appetizer, drink, or a meal. Eventually, after seeing our server attending to all the tables around us, we gave up and left. Happy anniversary.
