Opinions de Salt and Olive Salt Lake City
I've been to Salt & Olive 3 times in the last 3 months and I will definitely be going back soon. I did the walk-in front dine in option in different groups of table for 1, 2 and 4. I ordered the Paper Kite cocktail which is delicious. I've also had their spin on an Old Fashioned, I think they call it a Bold Fashioned, which is pretty good - if you like cinnamon. Their Bucatini pasta is amazing, just incredible. I love breaking up the burrata into smaller pieces and mixing it in with the pasta/sauce. I've also had the Tortiglioni Verde pasta - almost as amazing. If you like olives though, you might find it's the best pasta you've ever had. The house bread is quite good, the butter is even better. I've been wanting to try the house olives, but it looks like a lot of olives for one person. For dessert, I had the Zeoppole E Limone. I was so stuffed by this point, I could barely eat it. But the mascarpone citrus cream was definitely the best part. I could eat that as a fruit dip all day. The staff is great, attentive but not hovery. I've actually had the same wait staff every time I've gone, and she's been incredible. She has a really nice personable approach. I hope she's there the next time I go!
If I could give this 100 stars I would!! Salt & Olive team were wonderful! The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was open and inviting. As walk in customers with no reservation we were sat within a few minutes and our food came out so quick! I ordered the Lady Pleaser cocktail, one of the best I’ve had! We will be repeat customers! Thank you for giving my husband and I a happy, memorable date night.
Had an amazing dinner last night. We started with Beef Carpaccio. The presentation was beautiful. It was delicate yet full of flavor! Next we had Truffle Pizza. Truffle was whipped in the ricotta and spread generously on top. It was insanely good and creative. Our amazing server Kristin brought condensed balsamic vinegar to drizzle on top. It’s sweet and savory. Best pizza ever had! Afterwords we had their house made gelato. It was so creamy filled with espresso chocolate swirls. Yum 😋! What an incredible treat!
We had an excellent dining experience at Salt and Olive in Salt Lake City. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. Kristie was amazing, patient, attentive, and gave us a warm welcome. She took the time to guide us through the menu, helping us choose dishes that suited everyone at the table. For food, we ordered a half Insalata salad, a truffle pizza (without prosciutto), a carne asada pizza, and a tuna salad to share among the three of us. I personally ordered the tuna salad, and it was absolutely sumptuous, fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying. The truffle pizza was rich and aromatic, and I was told great things about the carne asada pizza, which was enjoyed thoroughly by others at the table. The half Insalata salad also received great feedback for its freshness and balance. The atmosphere at Salt and Olive is vibrant yet relaxed, making it a perfect spot to enjoy good food and conversation. Between the inviting vibe, delicious food, and genuinely warm service, this place really stands out. Absolutely recommend if you’re in Salt Lake City and looking for a memorable meal.
Went for the first time and it was definitely worth the hyper. Tons of gluten free options and the pizza was really good. The caprese salad was to die for. The drinks were tasty. Definitely recommend. We sat in the front room which was laid back and first come first serve. Table service.
OH MY LORD, this place is incredible! Easily one of the best pastas and pizzas I’ve ever had. Everything we ordered was absolutely divine, fresh, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Just delicious from start to finish. The atmosphere was calm, cozy and really pleasant, perfect for a relaxed meal. While the service was a bit slow at first (it took a little while to be seated and get water), everything else made up for it. Once things got going, it was smooth sailing. I truly loved this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates amazing Italian food in a chill, welcoming setting.
Excellent evening out for dinner with friends. Quite boisterous with a large private party being held in the back didn't take away from the beautiful environment. Our waiter was exceptional with suggestions, humor and service. We had some delicious appetizers, pizzas and gnocchi. Would love to return next time I'm in town.
Went here for an after-work party for dinner and drinks and loved it! The have quite the menu, with a lot to choose from. Good thing is, all of it sounded really tasty. I ended up getting a blackberry ricotta mint pizza, which was placed in my top 5 pizzas of all time shortly after trying it! This is also saying something because I’m picky with my pizza (crust, consistency, cook, sauce to cheese ratio, etc.) I loved the unique flavors - they blended together extremely well. The vibe was great! Clean, cozy, amazing service, and good for a big group (they put us in the back room). Would love to come back here on a date night with my wife!
We came for our anniversary and made reservations for the backroom. Everything was amazing, the atmosphere the service, the food. Cameron was our server, he gave us great suggestions of what to eat. He let me know the best wine to pair with my dinner. He didn't race us out and was attentive. He answered all my questions. We will be back! I asked my Facebook group what restaurant to go to and this was one suggested. I am glad I chose Salt & Olive
Portions are small. All the food made my taste buds go crazy. The steak is good quality. Had an nice dinner with friends
Patio was cute. The house bread with whipped olive oil was delicious. I tried two pizzas, the birria and the hunter. They had fun flavor combinations and quality meat. Our server checked in often and gave great recommendations. I’ll definitely be back.
Excellent service and food! Our party has gluten issues and they were very patient and kind and made sure we were taken care of. Special kudos to Corryn for her care and attention, we instantly felt welcomed and like we were sitting in her house. PS, the Zeppole are amazing and the lemon ricotta is gluten free so we all win.
Great food and service. Steak was delicious and pasta dish was amazing! Wish we had room for dessert.
Louis our waiter was a sweetheart, he was attentive, but not overbearing and courteous. Food was yummy - good presentation, ample portion size, and full of flavor. I would have liked a hot plate but I never seem to find that anywhere. I just find my food goes cold too quick. It’s a busy area but still found parking at noon on Saturday. The wine options were fabulous, but a touch too expensive by the glass. The only real negative was the table felt like it needed a deep clean. I look forward to returning, as there are loads of menu options that I’m keen to try, especially for brunch. Cocktails look tasty too.
Birria Pizza!!! Yes 1000 times YES! Jack was our bartender and he was fantastic. Great recommendations from him and he was very personable! Can't wait to come back.
I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is fantastic, the service was great, and the atmosphere was lovely! I can't wait to go back and try their coffee shop and enjoy a meal on the patio.
Our team came here for a group lunch and were not disappointed! I loved the house olives, charcuterie board, and Caprese salad. I also had the white bean dip with flatbread. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious. I very much hope to come here again when I return to Salt Lake City!
Nice patio! The food was good. I had the truffle pizza. Warning, you better like truffle flavor if you get this. It has truffle infused ricotta on it, and that is mostly what you taste. I liked it, but I’m sure my breath smelled like a trolls after eating it. The lamb lollipops were very good, but a bit pricey for only two. Nice selection of craft cocktails!
Came here for a late lunch/early dinner at the bar. Food was delicious, cocktail was delicious. Bartender was sweet. Couldn’t ask for much else, honestly.
Cannot say enough good things about the food. My husband and I enjoyed their pizza very much and freshly made pasta! Definitely a must! Will come back soon!
Nice Italian spot. Not a large menu. They had a few pasta dishes, pizza and salads. With great appetizers. We had the Hunter pizza, aka their meat pizza. And Tortiglioni pasta. The pesto sauce was delicious. We swabbed the plate with our dread appetizer to get more of the sauce. The pizza had great flavor and was cooked just right. Service was just right. Enough attention to cover our needs but no more. A 5 star gem .
We had a good time here with some friends for a Friday night dinner. The atmosphere was chic and modern, and I love that they have different areas within the same restaurant! There's a more fast/casual kind of vibe for pizza and that area, a quick coffee chat vibe in the front area with a fun backdrop for pictures, and the back area is where the fine dining is, which is more secluded. Three different vibes to me! The food was good, nothing over the top spectacular, but great enough to go again! I had the salmon, my husband had the special, and our friends had the beet salad and something else that was light. We ordered wine and service was great. Worth a visit!
Honestly the best Italian food I’ve had in Utah! Authentic dishes made with quality ingredients! They also offer students a 20% off discount, which made it very affordable for good Italian food‼️ The tortiglioni verde and steak salad are absolutely amazing!!! I keep coming back to order those! I’ve had the pizza twice (truffle and margarita) and was a bit disappointed both times. So, I recommend getting pasta or a salad instead. The lavender lamb chops are also a delicious appetizer!
First time there and I was impressed! I ordered the house pizza but I got to taste what my daughters got and everything tasted delicious. I love that they use local Utah salt in their cooking. We got a complimentary platter of zeppole e limone and it was a perfect finish to a tasty meal. Highly recommend for anyone who loves pizza and pasta dishes but they have other things on the menu.
Such an incredible experience. The food here was so savory and delicious. I’m a big fan and critic of pastas and this just came out too perfect. The shrimp has so much flavor, every aspect made the meal. The atmosphere was great, my only reason for not giving it a 5 was because there weren’t many people in the back room but we were sat next to a business dinner and they were shouting a little. Overall amazing! Would recommend for any fancy dinner date
My new favorite place to eat in Salt Lake City. We ate here 2 nights in a row on a work trip, that's how good the food is! We shared a truffle pizza (highly recommend) and salads- Caesar with chicken and a steak salad, both were delicious. Generous portions, too. The next night, we enjoyed some pasta. Tagliatelle and bucitini- both of which were phenomenal. Great drink selections and friendly staff. I will absolutely be back
Great food and ambiance. We were celebrating birthdays and Tane really went above and beyond to make it a special night!
We took a chance on Salt and Olive, and were delighted that we did so. By "took a chance," I mean that this new Italian place isn't someplace we've been before on annual visits to Salt Lake City. Our experience there couldn't have been greater. First, the food: we ordered an appetizer of bean dip (puréed white beans) and flatbread, and it was delicious (a photo is below). The beans were seasoned with a bit of rosemary, and topped with blistered cherry tomatoes and olive oil. The flatbread, which is likely made from the dough Salt and Olive uses to make pizzas, was excellent and came to the table warm and crisp. For our main dish, two of us shared an order of tagliatelle in a white wine sauce with shrimp, roasted peppers, and capers, and pronounced it outstanding (photo below). The other two of us split a house pizza with tomatoes, burrata, olives, prosciutto, and, since I was one of those two, I can tell you it was wonderful (photo below). The two of us who had glasses of draft IPA also said it was really fine, with a nice undertaste of grapefruit. Above and beyond that, we appreciated the solicitous, friendly service, the choice of the staff to seat us mature (as in gray-headed) folks in the quiet, commodious back room, and the discount we were offered as first-time visitors and seniors. All in all, this was a wonderful experience, and we'll be back.
Pizza was excellent, steak salad was excellent steak was cooked properly as ordered. Service from Kristi was great. No complaints. Not from around here so judged the book by its cover upon pulling up but trusted the others reviews. Will not disappoint. (I have actual taste buds)
We had lunch at Salt and Olive for our son’s birthday. It was our first time eating there, but it won’t be our last. The food was excellent! The decor and atmosphere were very nice. Our server was very attentive and friendly. A minor mixup with our order was quickly rectified in a manner that went above and beyond what they needed to do. We will be back.
First time coming here and planning on coming back asap! We sat in the back room and had the Wagyu Bruschetta appetizer which was delicious! Then my husband had the Steak & Ravioli. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth, mixed with the whipped mashed potatoes, it was a perfect bite of food. I got the Spaghetti Carbonara, and OMG the best carbonara I’ve ever had! With the poached egg on top, the abundance of pancetta, and the truffle pearls… it was to die for! So indulgent and flavorful! I’d come back and get that over and over again. I am pleasantly surprised with the impressive flavors in all the dishes we had. Definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone!
Highly recommend! The staff is always great. Food is excellent. It's one of our favorites in N. Utah. There is a fancier side of the restaurant that they take you to if you have a reservation and a more casual side if you don't. We prefer the more casual side. White Bean dip and Hunter pizza is where it's at. Just go.
Jack is one of the best bartenders I have ever met. Attentive, friendly, and made excellent mezcal mule and daiquiris. The lamb lollipops are finger licking good and the environment was cozy. Everyone we spoke to was kind and welcoming. I'll definitely be back! What a fantastic experience.
I had an amazing experience at Salt & Olive. The atmosphere was dark and romantic, which made it perfect for a date night. The food was filling, with great portion sizes for the price, and every meal we had was excellent. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and quick to take care of anything we needed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great weekend date spot. They accommodated for gluten and dairy free. Which is what we need.
One of the best Italian places I’ve been to! We took my parents out to try this restaurant and were so happy with what we got. The special sweet potato gnocchi was to die for (I will dream about it and hope I can time going again with getting that special), and every pizza combo ordered by the group was great (the blackberry was a group favorite). We loved it so much, we canceled plans to go to another restaurant, and took my in laws here the following weekend. Everything was equally delicious, and the service is amazing! Do yourself a favor and get some great Italian food!
We enjoyed our visit to Salt and Olive, the menu has some nice options for starters, mains plus a inventive drink menu, beer and nice wines. It is not a big menu so don't come with your heart set on anything specific. We shared the beef tartar and split a pasta dish which made for a great evening. Things to improve, service, dish presentation, like grated cheese or hot pepper flakes. Bread with the olives.
Salt & Olive has such a beautiful, moody vibe — perfect for an intimate dinner if you’ve got a reservation. The food was delicious and the atmosphere made for a great night out. My only letdown was the espresso martini, which seemed to have been sitting too long at the bar — the foam had completely melted by the time it reached the table. Still tasty, just not as fresh as I’d hoped. It was very busy when we went, so walking in might offer a different experience. Also, heads up on parking — it’s limited and right in the center lane of the street, so plan ahead so you don’t miss your reservation window. Overall, I’d absolutely come back, just with a little more planning next time!
Our first time here. Even though I initially have an idea where about this place is, we had a bit of confusion where this place is when we got there. It was kind of dark, 6:30pm wintertime - no visible sign, entrance area is dark and the door was like at first a coffee shop. Once we're inside though and was led to the dining area, it was a different experience. It looks nice, all our food was warm and tasted fresh and very delicious. Good hearty portions and I finished them all up 😋 Our server (I think Noah) is daBest!
The pizzas are yummy! We went looking for steak but that was the weekend menu. The front of the restaurant is like an old-school soda fountain shop, but the back (reservation area) is very elegant. I love the mix!
I had a steak salad for lunch. Service was good overall in getting us food fairly quickly. The steak was well cooked and tasty, and I loved the caramelized nuts with the cheese on the salad. It was tasty! Where we sat (next to the garage door), I noticed two things: when someone scoots their chair out, it makes a LOUD squealing noise. Second, our part of the restaurant smelled a bit like oil, like an auto shop was here in a previous existence. Overall, the experience was a good one. I liked the food enough to revisit it in the future.
The waiters are awesome. The food is amazing one day and then just meh the next. I ordered the clams they were so great the first time garlicky, buttery but the next time we came it was just melted butter. But them the next time it was amazing so not sure what happened. The lamb is great but very small. The pizza is amazing. The brussel sprout that come with meals are shaved so keep that in mind. Great wine selection. However, the hostess's are not very welcoming, I thought that was the culture at this restaurant the first time I went but our waiter was excellent and every server we have had at different times have been excellent but can't say the same for their hostesses and Everytime too! That's why I gave them a 4star on service.
Decent experience, but nothing extraordinary. I ordered a margarita pizza with prosciutto and a basil lemonade. The prices lean more toward the pricier side but are still fair. The pizza was okay—not bad, but not great either. The dough was a bit chewy for my liking; I prefer it crispier. It’s a casual spot with fine-dining touches, offering chill vibes and fast service. I’ve been here before, and I’d recommend their pasta over the pizza—it’s much better. The beef carpaccio is also excellent and worth trying. Overall, it’s a good place to visit, but don’t expect anything outstanding.
Was a bit underwhelming for the price and didn't quite meet my expectations, but was yummy and classy. I wasn't loving the pay-before-dining experience. Seating myself and having non-attentive wait staff because the tip is given before any service felt super backwards. The food was presented beautifully. We enjoyed the flatbread with the bean dip, but there was was too much dip than I think we could've used if we tried. The bread was a bit stale for my liking, and not warm. The dip was cold. My pasta dish was very good! I enjoyed the smoky chicken I added, the pasta and sauce, and the cheese. My only negative would be the olives were not my favorite with being kind of hard instead of softer. We enjoyed the cheapest $8 glass of champagne, which was good. The restaurant was clean, peaceful, and very elegant and classy. It felt fancy to be in. I wish the dining experience reflected the high prices.
The space of this restaurant is very large and its ambiance suffers. Its previous life seems to have been an Italian grocery with concrete floors. The servers have to work hard to carry the food far from the kitchen. I read many reviews, and many people like and enjoy this restaurant. I am very grateful to the young couple who brought us together! They paid nearly $1000. for this dinner, $75 for each diner, and this is not New York. The food is excellent. The service is not fast, but it is adequate. Salt Lake County has many Italian restaurants. You can find better value elsewhere, with attentive service. The other reviews have food photos.
The atmosphere is unique and enhances the overall dining look and experience. Had the vintage feel of a market converted into a restaurant with a unique service style. However it was easy to feel neglected if you are eating by yourself and staff felt somewhat dismissive. More suited for couples and moderate parties. Food was nothing to write home about either: pasta I was brought was nothing an experienced chef couldn’t produce, as I tasted many unground peppercorns in my dish. All things considered, I give it a 3/5
Nice unique eatery. We had a business dinner and did the buffet option. The appetizers were good portions and we had more than enough for our group. I liked the bruschetta, I think that is what it was. We also had pita bread, pizza and a salad thing. For dinner I liked the chicken, then lasagna was good but burnt on the bottom. Dessert was a raspberry tiramisu which was delicious. The high wood ceiling was beautiful but bounced all the conversations everywhere making it difficult to talk.
My steak sandwich was not good. Very small amount of steak on my sandwich, stale bread, forgettable French fries. All the steak pulls out on the first bite then you have to just eat a bread and onion sandwich…. Server was nice but too busy to help me most of my visit. I waited for 30 minutes after finishing my $20 “steak sandwich” to pay. I’m done here…
This place looks hip and interesting from the outside. It isn't a nice part of town and look like a nice place to visit. We went there and the hostess had his pick out a seat inside. The drink menu was nice and the options for mocktails was also good. The pizzas looked good. The surface was atrocious. A couple of times and sat with empty drinks for the duration of our meal. We ordered the cheesy bread a Caesar salad and some pasta dishes. The cheesy bread was burnt, which the cook attempted to cover with balsamic glaze. The pasta dishes were meh and not worth the price. We will not be returning.
I very rarely leave bad reviews. The restaurant's concept and interior are excellent! The waiter was very friendly. But... the pizzas were completely inedible, as if instead of sauce they had poured liquid white porridge on them. Both pizzas were like that. At first we thought the pizzas were undercooked, but it seems it was some kind of inedible sauce or something similar. The coffee was a separate horror! At first we were unpleasantly surprised by the high price for coffee - $8. But when, instead of a mocha, I was given hot water with only a faint hint of something resembling cocoa, it completely ruined our breakfast and our mood.
The food was pretty good. I didn't show what my friend got so that's important to point out. The bathrooms were clean. Everything was great. I simply can't accept ANY business that present and LGBT flag ANYWHERE! In an attempt to he inclusive, you're actually being less inclusive, welcoming a small part of the population while forcing the rest of us to accept them. Unacceptable. This is partially the fault of fallen SLC. But, this establishment is at fault as well. No one forced you to present a flag on your establishment. Do better.
