Opinions de Lupessa Salt Lake City
Wonderful dining experience. It was nice to eat at a restaurant with a great wait staff with a slow-catered presentation of your meal. If you've been to Italy you'll know when you go out for dinner it's not about just eating quickly and leaving. It's about the whole experience. We loved the bread and butter and eggplant parmesan openers. The Pappardelle All’ Anatra was delicious. It was nice to have a good duck in Utah which is not common. The carbonara could have used a little more salt. The noodles were all cooked al dente and not mushy like many other local restaurants. For the main course, we had chicken parmesan and Tuscan scallops. The scallops tasted fresh and the chicken was so tender it would break apart with a spoon. I would skip the 3 layer colorful cake. It was just ok. I would like to see more Italian wines on the menu as well as for single glasses. The lack of house wine was disappointing. Everything we took home warmed up well the next day which was nice.
Lupessa completely exceeded my expectations. The dining room is beautiful, and you can tell a lot of thought went into the design. The kitchen itself looked incredibly clean and organized, which to me says a lot about the standards they hold. Everything in the restaurant is just nice to look at. The service was fast, polished, and genuinely kind. It was an exceptional example of good hospitality. I cannot for the life of me remember our servers name, but he was great! Chef Devon was also especially welcoming and took great care of us, special thanks to him. The menu is unique and well executed. Everything we tried was delicious, creative, and beautiful. I love food that feels intentional. This is easily one of my new top spots in Salt Lake City. I’ll absolutely be back. Try the pasta!!!
I don’t write many reviews but we had such a great time at Lupessa I had to write one. The place is beautiful inside with tons of stone and lighting. All of the food was crazy good, and we got a bit of everything. The pasta and pizza were awesome and we were pleasantly surprised by the Asparagus and poached egg dish. Our server Robert was super friendly and attentive but not stuffy. The chef Devon is super talented. We will be back for sure.
For our New Year's date we decided to try and new restaurant that kept popping up on our feeds. Lupressa at The Gateway. It was fabulous. We had the brunette as our appetizer. Perfect amount for a starter. I got the Seabass and my husband got the scallops. Both were so so good. The Seabass married the lemon sauce with grape tomatoes and it melted in my mouth. We added the smashed potatoes, asparagus and mushrooms as sides. The asparagus wasn't my favorite, but aside from that everything was great. We loved it! Atmosphere was exceptional as well.
Such an amazing place for food and vibes. I don’t know why they are rated a 4 start. I loved everything that we had. The fresh bread was outstanding and our appetizer was great. Entrees were good as well. Would go back and try other dishes!
Lupessa is an absolute gem—truly one of a kind in Salt Lake City. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the stunning interior design and inviting atmosphere. The service was equally impressive: warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. Our server, Petro, was an outstanding host. He took the time to walk us through the concept of the restaurant and the menu with such care and enthusiasm that it really elevated our experience. The food itself was nothing short of fantastic—beautifully presented and full of flavor. We felt welcomed and relaxed throughout our meal, with no pressure to rush. It was a memorable evening from start to finish, and we can't wait to return.
Best experience and food I have had! The vibe is amazing and I haven’t seen anything like it before. The food was fresh and had amazing flavors. Our server was very polite and they refilled our waters frequently and kept the table clean in between courses!
Risotto, and carbinaraa were to die for and the Italian pino was amazing. We were going to wiseguys so we were kinda dressed down and in a hurry but the staff was super nice and accommodating! I will definitely go back when I have time to experience the whole menu. Definitely try this place
I felt like I was in a fairy tavern with the moss walls, pink trees and lights, but also in a very upscaled jazz club with the cool toned bar and a live piano player. The food was delicious and there are more items I'd like to try!
Atmosphere is unbeatable, as is the food and wine choices. We tried the carpacio, which was superb. My entree was also superb (and made for wonderful leftovers). Will DEFINITELY go back!
We visited La Lupessa to celebrate my brother’s birthday—he’s a big fan of pasta and Italian food—and overall, the experience was very good. The place is easy to access, with plenty of parking since it’s located in a small shopping center, which makes it super convenient. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed by a great musical atmosphere—there was a person playing the piano at the entrance, which added a really special touch. The decor is simply beautiful and totally Instagram-worthy, with every corner carefully designed. Service was outstanding from the very beginning. We were served water as soon as we sat down, and the staff remained attentive throughout our visit. You really feel well taken care of. As for the food, it was good—nothing extraordinary or unforgettable, but still enjoyable and well-prepared. Overall, the ambiance and service were excellent, and while the food wasn’t mind-blowing, it was definitely good. I’d recommend La Lupessa if you’re looking for a stylish spot with great service, perfect for a celebration or a nice evening out.
The menu is a traditional italian menu with multiple courses. The focaccia bread was amazing. We had a salad, meatballs, gnocchi, scallops and broccolini. Every bite was great. And such a pretty atmosphere. We’ll be back and bring friends next time.
Second time here. The risotto does not disappoint. Excellent service by Pietro. It is always recommended to make a reservation.
Lupessa was phenomenal! We had a reservation and only waited a couple of minutes. The servers were super friendly. The food was absolutely mouth watering. I had the chillean seabass and I could not have been happier!
This place is absolutely amazing!!! Everyone should go at least once! The atmosphere is beautiful, relaxing, and romantic. It's beautifully decorated and has a very calm, romantic lighting. The service is phenomenal! From the front hostess to waiter and manager, all very kind, helpful, pleasant people. The food is absolutely incredible! We started with some delicious cocktails and the bread service. We chose the baguette (delicious) with Ricotta ( whipped and features fresh herbs and a drizzle of honey) and the burrata (perfect amount of salt), so good! My husband also really enjoyed the butter they bring with it as well! For dinner, my husband ordered the Spicy Rigatoni and loved it! The real star of the show is surprisingly the Roasted Lemon Chicken... I know.. at the Italian place, and I didn't get homemade pasta. My husband and I could not get over how insanely delicious it was! The chicken is moist and delicious inside and beautifully crispy on the outside. The flavors and sauce on it are what take it to the next level! It is so good! It is one of my favorite places I think I've been. I am planning to take some of my upscale family here to dine because I know they'd appreciate it! It is a higher price upscale place but totally worth every penny!! (On the food pictures, I did brighten them up some hard to picture with lighting inside.)
I really enjoyed most of the dishes. My personal favorites were the steak tartare, roasted carrots, and arancini. I ordered the scallops for my entree. The scallops were cooked to perfection, but I wasn't a fan of the lemon sauce. It was a bit too zesty, so I just tasted lots of sour and a bit of creaminess. You can never go wrong with tartare and roasted carrots! I liked that the portions size was pretty generous with the carrots.
Please read the entirety of this comment. Here is my SCORE: 1. Atmosphere: 5/5 2. Service: 5/5 3. Flavor: 5/5 4. Cost: 5/5 Total Score: 5/5 Lupessa in Salt Lake City is a culinary destination that truly stands out. The atmosphere is beautifully curated, combining rustic elegance with a comfortable, inviting vibe that makes you feel right at movie the moment you step inside. The service at Lupessa is exemplary. The staff is not only attentive and efficient but also genuinely passionate about ensuring every guest has an exceptional dining experience. The food at Lupessa is nothing short of spectacular. I particularly enjoyed the Burrata, Tuscan Scallops, lamb shank, and their most famous tiramisu! The ingredients are always fresh, and each plate demonstrates the chef’s meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality. The prices are very reasonable considering the high quality of food, the beautiful setting, and the impeccable service. It’s a fantastic choice for both special occasions and casual dining. Lupessa is a must-visit restaurant in Salt Lake City. It provides a perfect blend of atmosphere, service, flavor, and value that will leave you eagerly planning your next visit. Highly recommended! We’ll be back!!!!!!
Damn. Those were the words I had at the first bite of the BREAD. My fiance and I started our meal with a baguette and handmade burrata, whipped ricotta with local honey, butter, and olive oil. Every single one of those was delicious. The ricotta was just sweet enough to give you a wonderful feeling. The burrata was fresh, it tasted fresh, it left my mouth feeling refreshed after having some ricotta prior to it, a palette cleanser, almost. The texture was fantastic, and I can't wait to have it again. The butter is worth talking about, incredibly creamy, and I wish I had this butter at home! A great start to the dinner. We both had different plates. She had the gnocchi, and I had the spicy rigatoni. I'll talk briefly about the gnocchi, it was a delicate puff of flavor, it melted in your mouth with a wonderful aroma and texture if the prosciutto cream sauce. Creamy with a little bite of texture. It was divine. I had the Spicy Rigatoni, the first bite was an explosion of flavor, and spice! Not enough places do spice well in SLC, like, this actually has a little heat to it. The Calabrian sausage was perfect, a wonderful contrast in texture to the creamy and spicy sauce. I was so happy to be transported to a blissful place in my mind upon finishing this dish. I would highly recommend for an incredibly flavorful and spicy pasta dish. We had a mousse for dessert, white chocolate, macadamia nuts, it was light, and just sweet enough to finish off this beautiful dinner. I'll have to try it again next time to get a better understanding of this dessert. Now, the food was excellent, definitely at the top of SLC's Italian scene, and what made it better was the beautiful ambiance, low warm lighting to ensure you feel the intimacy of this place. Our waiter, Luke, was very welcoming and kind, we really appreciated his suggestions and attentiveness. The bus boy, Carlos was a gentleman, very personable and made our night even better with their top notch service. I hope this review helps someone, it was a pleasure to eat at, and will be returning for another round in the coming weeks.
Seriously great Italian food in SLC! Fantastic food, staff, service, atmosphere. I’ve had a number of items on the menu and they have all been great. Their seasonal toast is always a must-order item for me. In fact, I would come here and just order that if you need a filling snack (easily a shareable item for two or three if part of a broader meal).
Italian Graffiti offered a memorable and delicious experience. First, location is good. It’s in the gateway so lots of areas to park and walk after a full meal. Our service was top notch! Johnny was our waiter and he was accompanied by Alexis, who together created a stellar service experience. They had familiarity of the menu which was great when asking for recommendations and they were always on top of our needs whilst eating. The ambiance of the restaurant makes it an ideal place for a date night or a girls night! Plenty of seating for large groups or dinner for 2. We ordered drinks, appetizers, pasta, an entree dish and dessert and everything was flavorful and fresh. There are bread carts that rotate around for you to order bread service and a dessert cart filled with scrumptious cakes. Tarryn provided a detailed breakdown of each option, she was also patient with my picture taking so I super appreciated that! 😊 I will say that it is pricey but also comparable to other Italian restaurants in the area. Overall, I would recommend in reserving a table! I would say there are quite a few places in the valley that offer an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere but fall short on providing a great dining experience. Italian Graffiti has managed to provide both both and then some!
We’ve dined here numerous times and have loved everything. The menu has a wonderful variety of creative and modern takes on Italian classics. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. It’s interior is stunning which makes for a wonderful place for an intimate setting or a celebration. The quality of the food is wonderful as they make sure to update and adjust to what is in season. You will love your experience here and enjoy incredible food that will leave you wanting to return again soon. (We’ve already booked our next reservation!)
This place was elegant. When you think of Classic Italian romantic dinner this place was spot on. The wine and beer list was all from Italy. The menu was piece meal so you had to decide if you wanted to pay for bread and sides or just enjoy the main dishes. The staff was friendly and available but not overly attentive. Which was perfect. Our waiter, Luke was very professional and did a fantastic job. Definitely make a reservation for seating since they are very busy. Plus parking is at the Gateway so you may want to arrive a bit early to park.
Love this place. The food is delicious and such a fun atmosphere. The tree is a highlight and makes it feel romantic. Its fun to dress up for a girls night out or a nice date night.
Very fun atmosphere. Really the only thing that was rough was when it was time to close out our checks. Other than that everything was great! Food came out in timely manner. Server was great and attentive. Was good at explaining the menu and his favorites. Great place for a get together. OH! How could I forget the complimentary bread!! It was probably my favorite thing!! Make sure you eat some.
LISTEN UP!! I'm not big on Italian food, but my boyfriend LOVES it. I took him to dinner here for Valentine's Day, and every single thing we tried was a 15 out of 10. I couldn't recommend this place enough, it's well worth the price. The cheese ball was so good, the truffle fries were divine, and the garlic bread was the best I've ever had in my life. You need to try this place at least once.
went on a date here, it was our first time dining here and we were very pleased! our server was very nice and got us seated in just a few minutes. the food was delicious! the place is so cute too, loved the design and decor.
Had an amazing meal here! The house focaccia with basil oil is a great start — the bread had a perfect crust and springy interior. Everything was similarly delicious: the arancini, the house-made burrata, the Truth or Pear cocktail and the bucatini carbonara. We were too stuffed to get dessert, which is a shame because those looked fantastic. The charming dining room with its faux blooming cherry trees made a wonderful atmosphere for a terrific dinner.
We spent Valentine’s Day at Lupessa and the service truly made the night. The staff was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly so we could just relax and enjoy the evening. Each table receiving a rose was such a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel extra special. It’s not easy to make a busy holiday feel this personal, but Lupessa absolutely did we left feeling taken care of and already looking forward to coming back.
I'm not sure how anyone could give less than five stars! my partner and I were looking for somewhere to have an upscale meal while visiting from the East Coast and I found this place on a whim. we were staying in park city so I knew we'd have to drive into the city and was hoping it'd be worth it. what an incredible experience we had! everything from the gorgeous atmosphere, to the attention to detail at the bar, to the above and beyond service and absolutely TERRIFIC menu...we truly ended up ordering about half the items on the menu. everything was perfect. i have been raving back home to friends and family over how I got to have the most deliciously seasoned scallops, most tender filet, and best carbonara in my entire life. we can't wait to come back again someday, we will make it a point every time we visit the area as we are beginning to make Utah trips a yearly occurrence. thank you again for the amazing experience!
Johnnie was our waitress and she was perfect! Very in tune with our needs and very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is lovely. The fun Italian music paused at one point and a live piano player started playing beautiful music. The food was soooo good! We had the beet salad, tuna tartare, which was divine, and the gnocchi (so delicious but definitely on the heavier side) and the sea bass, which was delicious especially with the lemon sprinkled on top. The cannolis were alright, but it’s hard to make cannnolis amazing. Overall, very satisfied and happy with our meal! Thank you for a magical night, Johnnie. ❤️
Amazing experience! Super friendly staff right as we walked in. Even the kitchen staff that walk.by are friendly. Food was on point! Delicious, pricey, but worth it. Live piano music and beautiful decor. Definitely plan on coming back.
The service at Lupessa is what truly stood out. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. Our server Robert was attentive in a relaxed, effortless way present when needed, never hovering. It felt warm, sincere, and personal. That kind of hospitality is hard to find, and it’s what will bring us back.
My party and I really enjoyed Lupessa. We originally had a reservation at a different spot down the street we weren’t able to make and so we ended up looking for somewhere nearby and wandered into Lupessa. They were able to seat us right away at 7:45 on a Friday night. The interior/vibe was just what we were looking for, it was very beautiful and it felt fun and unique; a great place to enjoy our celebratory evening. The live pianist was a pleasant touch. Everything we had was delicious; from the salty focaccia we enjoyed with the whipped ricotta/local honey and basil pesto accompaniments, to our cocktails/mocktails/wine, beet salad, prawn pappardelle (housemade pasta), and yummy roasted carrots and broccolini. The salted caramel dessert was also delicious. I look forward to returning with family to try the other yummy sounding menu offerings. Pietro took excellent care of us and I’m glad we know of another solid option for dining in downtown SLC.
The location is great, and they offer a valet service, although it can be a bit complicated to understand. We had a 7 PM reservation for four guests, but the host mistakenly thought she had given our table away. As a result, we had to wait for our table and ended up having a drink at the bar. The ambience hasn’t changed much since the Italian Graffiti restaurant was here; the layout is still quite odd. Now, let’s discuss the food. We started with their homemade focaccia bread, which was amazing. For appetizers, we ordered: - **Beef Carpaccio:** It was fresh, of a good portion size, and absolutely delicious. - **Burrata:** This was another standout starter. The burrata was fresh, and the accompanying ingredients complemented it perfectly. - **Little Gem Salad:** This is one of my wife’s favorite salads, and it was very good—perfect for sharing between two people. When it came to the Primi and Secondi courses, unfortunately, that’s where the experience fell short. - **Chilean Sea Bass:** The presentation was great, but the fish was a little dry. The portion size was appropriate. - **Bison Bolognese: ** I love a hearty Bolognese, but this one had too much ricotta for my taste. I’ve had many variations, and this one was disappointing. - **Scallops: ** My friend said they were good, with around five scallops per serving. - **Chicken Piccata: ** My friend enjoyed this dish and mentioned that it could have used a bit more zest and a little less butter sauce. She paired it with fettuccini, which was homemade and very good. For dessert, I ordered the Lemon Raspberry Cake (a ricotta cake). I’ve had a similar cake that I loved, but unfortunately, this one was on the dry side. The others ordered the special Salted Caramel dessert, which was absolutely delicious! Our server was Pietro, was great. He gave some very good suggestions. **Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant, but the food didn't give me that WOW factor.
The food was delicious, I honestly just wanted to keep eating. I ordered the prosciutto pizza, and it was very tasty. I completely forgot to take pictures because I dove right in. The appetizers are also worth trying; everything we had was so good. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is the service. Unfortunately, we were mostly forgotten by our server during the entire visit. She came by only twice in the two hours we were there. After our food arrived, we were never asked if we wanted additional drinks or to order anything else. I understand the restaurant was very busy, but I was still expecting a bit more attention.
It was good, service was good. The atmosphere is what really shines. For the price, there is better Italian but overall, decent experience.
Everyone says the same thing, the front of house is terrible but the service and food once you're seated is amazing. The bone marrow risotto was out of this world. The rich, earthly flavors of the truffles and mushrooms combined with the bone marrow and spices were unbelievable. Bone barrow can be tough for a lot of people since the texture and can be unsettling but mixed into the risotto and with the mushrooms and the texture blends right in. The scallops were delicious but I usually prefer a better crust, they were a bit soft. The service staff was attentive, friendly, and very helpful. But be careful of being seated in the front. There's a small table right at the entrance we were seated at, despite our reservation, that is right next to their waiting area so when it's busy your table is constantly jostled and in the winter, the cold breeze from the door opening behind you is annoying. Always insist on being seated in the back
Beautiful restaurant. Food and service were good. We were in a rush and did not order multiple courses, as suggested.
The gateway has been changing a ton over the last few years, and the addition of Italian Graffiti adds to that change in a great way. Upscale Italian food with a really nice atmosphere. I was able to stop by with a group of 5 and tried quite a few dishes. I really enjoyed the tartare and pappardelle. I would consider coming back for an upscale experience, and the atmosphere is a big part of that. The decor in the restaurant is nice, and the tree was a nice touch. Service wise, it was good. My server and the other staff were friendly, but the meal took quite a while to come out. I fully understand coursing out a meal, and European style dining, but 2+ hours is still a long meal. The pricing seemed a bit inflated for some of the dishes, like the fries that were underwhelming for the price. Overall the experience was good, and I would definitely consider returning. There are still plenty of dishes I would love to try.
Food and cocktails here are definitely good, but also definitely overpriced. We made a reservation about a month before we went and it required a credit card to be placed on file. When we went in for my mother's bday, they sat us in a corner, right by the main walking path of everyone, and away from the center cool area with the main decor and trees. Basically next to a spare wine fridge. We asked how we can sit in that cooler area in the future (which was mostly empty at the time) and they said to make a reservation. Shrug. $18 for fries is enough of a reason to not need to go back. It's a shame it's overpriced because the bucatini is excellent. If the prices were about 25% less it'd make more sense for comparable dining. The reservation/service setup needs some work too.
Took my wife for Valentines Day. I was able to easily make the reservation online, and that went very slick. Definitely make reservations. I didn't realize this place was in the gateway, so it was also pretty nice to have a large parking area downtown to park my car safely. When we arrived, the atmosphere was nice, and it was pretty cool that you could see the kitchen from the entry area and from where we were seated near the bar. Fun painting on the walls and decorations, the flowing trees AND an itslian plumber and his girlfriend (if you know where to find them. Hint - go wash your hands 😉) We were seated very timely, and the staff was polite. We were greeted by our server, and he made us familiar with the menu and offered some great suggestions. Please note this is an "á la carte" restaurant. We ended up ordering a couple of drinks (Jazz something and an O Sole Mio), both of which were good. We had the Semolina (not Salmonella people) Garlic Bread and an order of Wikd Mushroom Arancini. These came out pretty quickly and were tasty. I've been some places where their Arancini were larger so I was a little let down at the price vs portion (this seemed to be a theme for the night), but we did enjoy them both. We ordered the Bucatini alla Carbonara, Chicken "Parm", and Wild Caught Swordfish. Now again, we could see the kitchen. It took a very, very long time to get our food. Like really long. I'm ok of a kitchen is busy but I could see it. They either perform cool under pressure and can cook while moving slow or...well....it was slow. When we got our food it was OK temp wise but it was not hot. For a deep fried Parm, it was not hot. My swordfish was not hot. Our carbonara, the sauce had started to hardened and the noodles were all sticking together. It was very disappointing, but since I didn't have a thermometer to verify if it was to cold for serving standards (I went on a date, not to work for the health department haha). The flavors were good tho. The chicken Parm is thigh meat, and I'd never thought about using that before but it worked SO well. Very juicy (just not hot like it was freshly made). The Swordfish was not over cooked and the parsnip puree and olive eggplant caponada was actually really good. I honestly wouldn't have tried it because I have an irrational fear of eggplant but now just looking back at the menu it was eggplant. (Again, not super hot just warm. The carbonara was a huge let down. Set sauce with a small portion. Not even really warm. It was extremely salty. Almost to a point where I wanted to send it back (but I'm to much of a coward to send food back, so we finished it like a big boy and girl). We did not have room for desert. We spent about 2.5 hours there and my ticket was about $175 and I tipped 20%. (Not bragging, just perspective). They were kind enough to give me $2 of parking validation but since I was there 2.5 hours I had to cough up a couple bucks for parking. Still a great deal downtown. All and all the temp of our main courses was a huge let down. They were acceptable for food standards I guess but the carbonara was Def sitting under a heat lamp for the rest of our food and I suspect all our main entrees sat under a heat lamp for some time. I was going to give it 3 stars but my wife said I was being a baby about the parking validation, and she is right. Just make sure you bring lots of money and make sure your food temp is to your liking. This was probably an off experience, but it was the one I had.
Beautiful atmosphere. We had a reservation but took an earlier seat at the bar. The pork chop was good. The risotto was disappointing, however. Delicious rice and cheese sauce once you picked through the big gobs of spinach and whole mushrooms. We knew it’d have some, but thought it’d still be mostly rice. After picking through it, there was maybe a tablespoon or two of rice left to eat. However, they were happy to replace it, and the gnocchi was absolutely delicious. The ricotta and honey appetizer with bread was divine. Overall, food ranges from not good to fabulous. Prices are a bit much. Service was good, not fabulous. Pretty good experience, but probably not worth the prices enough to go back.
Our server Bailey was the star of the show. She was attentive. Understood her clients and menu. 10/10. The beef appetizer and bread with whipped ricotta and honey were my fav parts of our meal. My husband got the chicken parm. Didn’t live up to its price. Probably wouldn’t come back due to price vs the actual flavor and food but if Bailey was our server I would come Back for bread and a glass of wine any day of the week.
The portions aren’t as big as similar style Italian restaurants. For the prices this was a bit weak. The beet salad was $18 and you received one handful of beets. NO REFILLS ON FOUNTAIN DRINKS. $4 per small soda with ice. The staff do not advice you of no refills ahead of time. This is strange for Utah and a first I’ve seen here. However the food tasted great. The spicy rigatoni was awesome, a perfect copy of Carbone’s spicy rigatoni from the Vegas or NYC locations. Excellent.
Excellent and very attentive service. Classy booths to sit in. Atmosphere was nice. The spaghetti and meatballs were really good. My date got the lasagna. It was great lasagna but I personally think it needs more sauce. Not much, but it could use a bit more. If I could say a negative about it, the desserts are too expensive. They are $15. The dessert didn’t blow me away. They would be nicely priced at $11. We got the raspberry lemon cake. The raspberry sauce still had seeds in it. Very peculiar.
I was hoping this would be a class act of a restaurant. We dressed up and expected a fine dining experience. We were sat next to what looked like the serving bar right next to the Lime Green Pizza Oven. I felt like our party of 8 was tucked away in a corner that was out and away from the main dining area. It could have been worse, the patrons next to us were seated at a little extension of the serving bar right next to servers grabbing items all night. It just felt like this classy place but with an out of place lime green over and windows looking into the storage room, it just cheapened the experience. Dressing up? don't worry about it, the place was filled with yoga pants and basketball shorts wearing diners. What happened to dressing up to go out? From where I sat, you could see the wine coolers, the host desk, some beautiful art, and an entrance to the main dining room. But I wasn't there. I was in the corner wearing a 'dunce cap'. The food was really good and I highly recommend the Artisanal Bread. They get dinged a star on the food though because the portions are tiny. I feel like I paid triple the normal rate and got a third of the food. Service was OK especially for a larger group and our server was excellent at explaining the different Italian Lingo on the menu. Here is my biggest takeaway though - The menu is divided into sections - Pasta, Protein, Vegetables. Based on the portion sizes, I'd recommend ordering a dish from each section per person. I honestly don't think I'll ever go back. Just didn't feel like any traditional restaurant nor did it feel like it was fine dining.
Lupessa Italian at the Gateway was a bit of a mixed experience. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was friendly, but the food itself felt hit or miss. Some dishes were enjoyable, while others fell a little flat. The biggest disappointment was the temperature of our meal our 28 oz ribeye arrived barely warm, which took away from what should’ve been a standout dish. There’s potential here, but for the price point, I expected more consistency and attention to detail.
This is a below average for the price italian place. I've been to Italy and several Utah italian places. For an upscale place they didn't know and asked around to find out they have no truffles. I would recommend going to a food truck that serves italian to save yourself the $ vs taste.
The meatball appetizer was the star of the night. The risotto was not good and I was so disappointed. The steak entree was mediacore. Even a little salt to bring out flavor would have helped. The tiny bit of butter served with the steak was the saving grace. The vibe was pretty and the music was club level loud.
I will never go to this place again.. I was embarassed that I took friends here after watching the ads on tiktok. Our server was spacy and dishoveled, she'd begin talking to someone mid conversation when no one had said anything... just odd but kind. The "filtered water" is tap.. it tastes like heavy metals. Our seats were pleather and we were next to two heaters. One above us that made my hair so hot it fekt like I'd been blowdrying it for an hour.. and one by our table. The butter wasnt even holding itself together as soon as it came to our side and my phone overheated... it was like being in a sauna but having a breezeway 😂 Now to the food.... Imagine kraft mac n cheese and playdough had a baby. Thats their Carbonera. I had my friends try it too because I felt bad for wanting to sejd it back but they couldnt even finish their bite 🫠 it wasnt friendly to the pallet and it was approx. $37 The Gnochi wasnt AS BAD but still something that we had to "get through" rather than enjoy.. The texture was nice but they only had the one sauce option and it was represenative of american cheese. We also got the rye soughdough with some sort of local honey dip. I regret to inform that even that was mid and not worth bocing up for later. I can't tell you how disappointed I am in this experience. My friends said they felt bad for the people walking in after us. 😪
