Opinions de ALAMEXO Salt Lake City
This place has some of the best Mexican food in Utah. It’s high quality food that tastes amazing. It’s a great experience that I highly recommend. I loved the guacamole, salsas, chip, tacos, enchiladas, pretty much everything. It is right in the heart of Salt Lake, so parking is limited. The ambience was cool and elegant. The service was spectacular. It’s very clean and beautiful. I would recommend visiting outside of rush hours. You cannot go wrong here. The only downside is it is a bit expensive.
I have eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants and this is by far the most superior Mexican food I have ever had. The staff is top notch the servers are amazing the place is clean and well taken care of. They are attentive and take care of all of your needs. I am highly impressed by this place and definitely suggest this is the start if you ever come to Salt Lake City
this hidden gem is located on state street in salt lake and let me tell you it is top notch.. a little gourmet ‘Tex-Mex’ fine dining experience over delivers and did not disappoint myself as well as all my mates.. Named Alamexo, this fine restaurant is play on words that pays homage to the historical event known as the Alamo. Honestly the perfect name for such an eatery with strong theming to make you feel as though you are transported to the actual Alamo itself.. The servers are extraordinarily personable and quick.. the food amazing.. take an extra step beyond the complimentary chips and salsa and order the guacamole, the server prepares it right in front of you and it’s like nothing you’ve ever had before.. after the main course they surprised our table with an extra treat on the house and it made the night that much better.. phenomenal experience
Amazing Mexican food. We were in town for the night so we stopped by based on the reviews. Everyone was spot on!! Get the elotes and some of the house margs!! You definitely won’t be disappointed!! Also the free churros with the check was a nice finishing touch as well 👌🏻
We enjoyed a very pleasant dinner here. Cassandra was attentive and very helpful. The Chile Relleno was delicious and well-balanced - they use a nice lively queso. Table-side Guacamole service is a must!
Wonderful food, nice atmosphere. Loved the fresh guacamole, which was also made right in front of us.
I really love this Mexican restaurant in downtown Salt Lake. I think I might be one of the best Mexican restaurants in the City.
Nice little spot. The food was full of flavor. I really was quite impressed with the combinations of flavor. Did I mention that I liked the taste?
Amazing food, definitely get the tableside guac!
My wife, having been born and raised in the birthplace of mole, takes it seriously (she even refuses to share her family's recipe with me). She gets upset with what some restaurants try to claim as mole. She loved yours, but not only that, she told me it tasted just like her mother's. Not sure she could have given a higher compliment. My carnitas were great also. The prices are comparable to Red Iguana, but without the long wait and with a more comfortable atmosphere.
Delicious! Classy place for a work lunch. I had the Mole Enchiladas, great authentic flavor. The guacamole at the table is really good. I would recommend this place if you're trying to impress someone with an upscale option.
Excellent food. Very creative and different Mex dishes that are delicious! You have to get the freshly made table side guacamole. Atmosphere is invitingly and hip for a Mexican restauran. Always had a great experience. One of my favorites.
We had the best experience and the best service we have had in a long time! Our server was so sweet and attentive, she let our son help make the table side guacamole which made his night! We eat out frequently and people treat children like they don’t exist and I really appreciated how kind our server was to our son! Thank you again for Great food and the best service we could ever ask for! Give her a raise! She was working Friday night April 26, I am sorry I forgot her name.
The food was authentic but also modern and fresh. Dining with a chef is always hard, but this place impressed even my gastronomically gifted friend! Our server, Michael, went above and beyond in every way and had fantastic suggestions and the margaritas were top shelf and unique. Wonderful experience!
Really great food. I like that it doesn't look or taste processed. The presentation is also very good and clean. I didn't feel bad eating the food either like I do when I eat greasy food. The quesadillas I ordered were delicious and very filling. I easily could have shared my entree. I will definitely come here again.
Delicious. Guacamole is worth the price tag don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Portion size is perfect just like the margaritas. Wonderful location and charming atmosphere. I would highly recommend.
The guacamole made at the table is so good! The service is exceptional. The food is unlike typical "American" Mexican food. It has different flavors and textures, which makes the experience all the better. I love Alamexo!
Excellent food, good service! Nice urban setting, love the huge windows. My husband, who lived in Mexico for two years, was very impressed with the quality and authenticity of the food, and our friend raved about his fried plantains. A little pricy, but that's to be expected in a downtown area, and it was worth the money. We would definitely come back!
Read reviews on Female Foodie and loved the food here. We got the guacamole, queso dip and the green enchiladas. All were amazing. I can’t decide which is better out of here and Chili Tepin. They both are awesome because I know that place is probably a competitor to here.
One of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to. Very nice decor, fresh table-side made guacamole, incredible tacos. Everything on the menu looked good. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Very good. Highly recommend if you are looking for an upscale Mexican place.
The food here is really good. They will make the guacamole at your table fresh for you which is great. There's a bunch of other items on the menu but to be honest I think almost anything you get here is going to be good. I remember there are mole being good and their plantains.
Always a good experience. My server was attentive without being annoying - was on top of beverage refills, checking to make sure everything was good, the timing was on point. That being said, when asked about dishes, he provided little to no insight besides what was written on the menu. The house made guacamole was wonderful, as was my barbacoa pork. The margaritas were well balanced and allowed me to get some nuances of the tequila, while still having a great blend of flavor from the other ingredients.
This place was amazing, and the staff are friendly. The food is some of the best Mexican I've had. Their guacamole dip is a must have. When ordered, your server brings a table to you and freshly makes the guacamole in front of you. If you're in downtown salt lake, I highly recommend going here!
Delicious gourmet Mexican food. Many dishes have flavors from the Yucatán region, something you won't find at most Mexican restaurants in Utah, which serve dishes typical of northern Mexico. The duck taco appetizer was by far the tastiest dish we ordered. I was also very impressed with the quality of their side dishes such as the rice and refried black beans, not your typical refried beans that come in a jumbo can. Ambiance is modern chic, and so are the prices. For me it's worth it since the quality of the food and quantity of meat are more than filling. You WILL have leftovers! Not to mention the complimentary chips and salsa, and churros.
The table side guacamole is excellent, but a little expensive. I enjoyed my dish, which was salmon (cooked perfectly), served over a unique savory sweet sauce. My wife ordered the Mole Poblano, and was less impressed. It was too bitter, and the pork was a little bit dry.
They’re guac is really good. The entrees are hit or miss, but when they’re hit, they’re great!
Great food! The fresh guacamole was amazing! We will eat there again!
Great for a business lunch. The service was great, the guacamole was amazing. Once we ordered our food the plates came out very quickly. In spite of how fast it came out it was nicely prepared and tasted great. I will definitely be going back.
The atmosphere is cool. They bring out chips and salsa. I thought the salsa was great and spicy. My wife and I tried a few margaritas during our dinner. All were pretty good. We had the enchiladas suiza and barbacoa tacos. The taco plates are serves fajita style to build your own. Food was great. Prices are reasonable.
The food was well presented and it's a cute location, however the food wasn't very flavorful (which is probably more my taste than anything). That being said, their service was phenomenal! We had a large group reservation, and they were helpful and not overbearing. They don't usually do deserts apparently, but when we asked if they could do something they went above and beyond bringing several different deserts out for the whole group, which were very good. 😊
A more high end Mexican place. Super yummy and fresh food. Great quality, flavors are unreal and nice atmosphere. Been a few times and will continue to go. Try their homemade guacamole that’s made right on your table and their pork fajitas are super yummy too.
The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was nice. My main concern was the price. I guess I didn't know what to expect for $20 enchiladas. But aside from being pricy it was good food. When I first got there I got a little irritated because the hostess didn't seem like she was fully there and seated a couple who came in 10 min after us, right after she specifically went to go prepare a table for us. I could tell the couple she seated were confused since they barely came in and kept doing a double take at us as we were waiting before them, but I gestured to them it was ok. Luckily there was another table open so we were seated fairly soon after. The service from the table staff was good. They were fairly attentive and kept waters filled. The food was good. I didn't get the table side guacamole that they seem to highlight only because I wasn't prepared to spend that much on it but it did look good and fresh as all the tables around us ordered it. I initially wanted to order one of their specials but they were out so I had to settle for my 3rd option since my 2nd was also out. At least business for them is booming! They serve complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was nice and spicy, It was great! They also serve complimentary rice and refried black beans with your meal which were also good. I asked for more. The main course I ordered was good as well but as I said initially, I am unsure if I would spend that much on enchiladas again as I think there are some great Mexican places that make them just as well. Overall it's a great atmosphere for a date or a fancy night out. You're definitely paying more for the ambiance. I sat right next to the window which added to it.
Nice restaurant, a little bit too modern and American for my taste for a Mexican place. Still however a good place to eat. The most original thing here is the way they prepare the guacamole sauce, in an original authentic cup. So as a person who doesn't like guacamole, I have tasted it, just to watch it being prepared. And now I am eating the sauce.
Great location, pretty good food. I got the enchiladas. The flavors were really on point, however about 30 minutes later I just felt kind of sick. Not like serious, but just icky like I ate a bunch of junk food. Could be unrelated, but I think it was the food. The service was also great. I would return, but not terribly enthusiastically.
The decorations in the restaurant were really cool and set the mood well, but they seemed under-staffed and our server wasn’t very good. Their prices are way too high for the amount of food you get. You pay for the arrangement of food on the plate it seemed like. Will not go back, but the food was pretty good!
Decent option for Mexican. Food is pretty good though maybe a bit pricy. Expect $15-$20 for lunch. Salsa was very bland but salt helped. There are better places.
Look somewhere else if you’re looking for authentic taste :( we order tacos and enchiladas (both chicken ) Meat seemed/tasted as if it was boiled rather then grilled and had lost all of its flavor. Sucks because I was here a few months back and food tasted different , new cook maybe ?
The first thing I noticed upon entering was the cramped seating. My entire evening was being bumped every five minutes by patrons squeezing past. Our waitress was nice enough though rarely seen (she appeared for drinks, our order, and the bill). It was a busy night for the first thirty minutes but when thing quieted down, I kept wondering where she was at. If she had, she would have tripled her drink sales. The food is Mexican with some twists. I had a New York strip steak with red Chile mole. Though tasty, the meat proved a little chewy which wasn't helped by being given a butter knife rather than a steak knife. A decent experience but not one I'll be repeating any time soon.
I have carefully contemplated my honest review because Alamexo has a great downtown atmosphere and the most creative margaritas. However it is not the true high end Mexican experience that I expected, with it's lack of ethnicity in the servers to pronounce the menu items/my name/make table guacamole- this could not convince me to justify the amount I paid for a dinner for two. But like I said, the margaritas are the best I've had.
Alamexo is on a decrescendo. I've eaten here for lunch and dinner numerous times, and it used to be great; solid 4 or 5 stars consistently. The food seems more format with lower quality ingredients now. In my visit yesterday the guac had avocado rind in it and was extremely bland. We ended up ordering salt and lime to add ourselves. When we commented the server explained the chef isn't exactly open to feedback. I happily pay downtown prices for good food; I live downtown. Having that said, Alamexo is now grossly overpriced for its quality and portion size. It just feels like their whole business shifted downwards about the time they opened the Cantina. I'm pivoting to a new Mexican eatery until they get back to where they were or better. They used to be so great! Because of that, I'll check in from time to time, as I haven't given up yet.
Not for me. If you are looking for typical Mexican, in my opinion this is not that place. The food tasted like another evolution to Americanized Mexican food. The place is nice, it is clean, good music for ambiance, though the music seemed at times to be more Spanish - Flamenco than Latino. Kudos on plating and making food look pretty on the plate.
The food here was really good (probably 4 stars on its own). We had both types of guacamole, and they were excellent. I had a mole enchilada that was very tasty, and the other dishes had at my table were all deemed quite good. It wasn't the absolute best mexican-style food that I've ever had, but it was very very good. The price was pretty steep, which is what keeps the food from being 5-star. The drink pours were comically small for the price. What knocks the overall rating down another notch is the slow and rather inept service we received. Everyone was very nice, not purposefully rude or cold, but we basically had to flag our server down and ask to have our order taken. Water around the table frequently ran dry. A to-go order we wanted to put in was awkwardly handled (rather than just taking it for us at the start, our waiter told us flag him down 20 minutes before we were going to leave). The space / ambiance was really nice. There's basically no parking at the restaurant, though there are a couple of garages around the corner. If the service were to improve I could give this a much stronger recommendation.
Loved the chips and dip plus the guacamole that they make in front of you. It was overpriced definitely and we had to ask for lime. The menu didn't have many options. The food itself tasted like someone was having a little too much fun with seasoning. It was far from Mexican tasting in my opinion. I did like the location and setup they had. It didn't feel branded super well, but it was comfortable and nice to look outside.
I so badly wanted to love this place. It's definitely not authentic Mexican cuisine, so if you are looking for authentic, this is not your spot. Food is more high end with a modern twist and flavors are really good. My disappointment was the side dishes. I went with 4 people and we all ordered separate entrees that cost around $20. In the menu it states that all entrees come with rice and beans. When the meals were given to us, there was only one 1/2 sized plate of rice and beans expected to be shared with 4 people. I questioned the waiter and was told that customers dont eat all the rice and beans so they only bring out 1 serving size. For over $20 per plate I thought this was very cheap and false advertising. Flavors were great, but I was disappointed and felt I was being cheated.
Best thing about here is the selection of tequila. Skip the nachos and sauce, which were more like stale chips and ketchup. Seriously, the sauce was thick, red, and too sweet. Just like ketchup. The guac was ok but wasn't worth what they charge. Most of the crowd there were hipsters that didn't know they could get better food at the tacos cart down the street.
The Mole burrito was delicious, but the duck tacos were kinda hard. There was nothing soft about that duck, and I have had plenty of duck before, so I knew what to expect. Pricy Margarita, but everything else was reasonably priced. Our waiter (Cassie) made sure that we knew of their 10pm closing time, and that she had plans for NYE. She was nice, but made us feel a little rushed through dinner.
Our waitress and service was so poor, and the price so high, it's not worth trying again. You can get better tacos in three directions within walking distance. The restaurant is nice. It wasn't busy (Saturday night)..and maybe that's telling... we wanted to spend more, and buy more drinks--just can't get our waitresses attention. They were out of the seafood enchiladas two of us wanted to order. Shrimp taco is uninteresting, standard components, and bland. The guacamole was fresh and made at the table...but also bland. The Chile Relleno, looked good. Nice selection of tequila.
Guacamole here was amazing even with the price tag. Food was fantastic as well BUT we did not have a good experience. Our server NEVER attended to us. Shouldn't I get the same service as the tables next to us? We waited 40 min to get our checks and another 20 while he was running them. I am pretty sure he was in the back just watching the jazz game the whole time.
If you are going to charge a lot for Mexican food then it better be amazing. This fell short. The serving sizes were too small, the concepts were lost on me (why do we have to assemble our own burrito? It isn’t a fajita), it was very bland (no spice, needed more salt), and the wait was long. I thought for desert we would receive a churro, but it was just a cinnamon sugar chip. I would only go if someone else is paying. Very cramped seating. Not very good for groups with kids. Better for two person parties. I enjoyed the guacamole but thought for the price there should have been more. I got the mole enchiladas and had wished we had gone to red iguana instead. If you are a fan of red iguana, I think this place would disappoint.
One of my worst restaurant experiences to date. It took our server nearly 10 minutes to come take our drink orders after we sat down, so another server poured us water while we were waiting. Neither one of us wanted anything other than water, so when the waiter finally showed up and found out we only wanted water to drink he disappeared for another 10 minutes. He eventually brought us a very small bowl of salsa and chips and took away the giant stone bowl that he was mixing salsa for other tables. I guess he assumed we didn't want any of the tableside salsa? My coworker ordered the chicken tacos and I ordered the barbacoa tacos - just as we were about to walk out and leave, our spacey waiter finally showed up with our food. The barbacoa was completely overcooked and some was severely burned. The rice and beans were hard and overcooked as well. The corn tortillas were soggy and very thin. The food was TERRIBLE. The total bill was $45 for two orders of tacos, with both of us drinking water. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT!!
