Loved our experience here! We made reservations for a Saturday night at 7, but it wasn't necessary. There was plenty of seating. Our waiter was great and the drink options were great, too! It's shareable plates so make sure to remember that when ordering. Everything was cooked to perfection. We had the pork, steak, and fish, and several appetizers. The fish is my typical go to at every restaurant, however, it wasn't as good as the other dishes. Still great though!

I have been on the hunt for a truly great oxtail dish, and my search has officially ended at Carson's Kitchen. The oxtail I had here was, without a doubt, one of the greatest plates of food I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It was cooked to perfection and packed with incredible flavor. On top of the phenomenal oxtail, I also tried the pork belly, which was another delicious and well-executed dish. The food alone is enough to guarantee a return visit. What made the experience truly outstanding, however, was the service. Sergio was incredibly helpful and attentive, guiding me to some great choices that paired perfectly with the meal. Everything from the welcoming location to the reasonable pricing was top notch.

Carson Kitchen brings a fun, updated take on comfort food — blending creativity, bold flavors, and social-friendly dining. When it delivers, it hits hard: memorable dishes, inventive pairings, and a good mood all around. That said, there can be variability — some dishes overpromise, some underdeliver, and the environment isn’t always suited for quiet. If you want a night out with friends or a casual special-meal vibe in downtown Salt Lake City and are open to small plates and “sharing-style” dining, Carson Kitchen is absolutely worth checking out. If you want predictability, quiet, or large, budget-friendly meals — maybe temper expectations.

Our first time eating here. We arrived before the dinner rush and wow! The food was amazing! Orders are made to split and we ordered the bacon jam with havarti, the grape and burrata salad, and the Cocoa Espresso NY strip. Everything was perfect portions for 2 and beautifully presented. Our server, Nicky, was fantastic. She not only gave us recommendations of her personal favorites, which we always find so helpful when we go to a new place, but was also easy going and fun to chat with. Her recommendation for the lemon bar for dessert was the best! We will definitely be back, especially because they change the menu occasionally. Until then, I’m going to dream about going back and getting another lemon bar. Delicious!

My son and I had a great experience at Carson Kitchen. The service was great, the staff were welcoming, and the food was fabulous! We started with bacon jam. It was delicious, as well as arriving promptly at our table. We were starved after a long day of travels and the fast service was appreciated! My son had a refreshing cider recommended by the waiter. For entrees, we shared the NY Strip and the mushroom flatbread. They were fabulous, very filling, and we'll definitely visit this restaurant again.

I had no idea this unique gem was downtown. Such a beautiful set up and loved sitting at the chef’s table. Getting to see the action of the kitchen was fun to see the food made. The atmosphere was perfect. Great service by Sergio and food by the chefs. I ordered the pot roast dip and baked mac & cheese. You can tell how carefully crafted these dishes are. What’s great is I would feel comfortable coming here to celebrate a special occasion or just come hang out with friends. It’s quite perfectly balanced between upscale while still feeling inviting for everyday. :)

A 4.2 is an Incredibly inaccurate rating for this restaurant. The atmosphere here is fun and welcoming only to be absolutely dwarfed by the food. I am from LA where food is Top of the line and have been Searching for food that is even Close to comparable and I have More than found it here at Carson Kitchen, I mean we’ve barely touched the options and I am truly in love. We had the Chicken skins, bacon jam and Mac and cheese. Top quality preparation - display and passion in Every bite. To top off the meal we had the glazed bread pudding, and My god. Heavenly does not begin to describe it. I IMPLORE you to eat here. It is truly phenomenal.

Oh my WORD! This place is a gem. The food... chef's kiss amazing. Service was incredible as well. Would definitely go again... and again.... and again. The tempura green beans were the winner.

Late night delicious! I don’t review much but we snuck in before close and had the best “out of this world “ mai tai and comfort food at its very best. Top notch hospitality too. Highly recommend!

We were excited to see Carson Kitchen in SLC because we love the Las Vegas location. Nicky was our awesome server and the food was delicious! Don't sleep on this restaurant.

Awesome foods and services. The menu is great and we had great experience dining at there. The restaurant is decorated and organized very well.

It was super delicious and went way above my expectations. The food was HOT, fresh and bursting with flavor. The kind of food you take bite and instant happiness washes over you.. The staff was so welcoming and didn't hesitate to tell us the story of the secret Sunday chicken or why there was a swear jar in the kitchen. 🤫 That chicken tho.. legit BEST fried Chicken I've tried in Utah.. Holy Moly.. From the tempura green beans to the donut bread pudding... two thumbs up and already planning our next trip back.

Excellent Restaurant! We came here on a whim because the power went out at another restaurant we were at, so this came at the recommendation from our server. I couldn't have been happier! When we walked in, we were greeted by the staff who were super nice and wearing masks, and seated very quickly. The decor and feel of the restaurant was very modern and chic. The food menu could be found via a QR code or they have printed menus upon request. The food choices were phenomenal and it was hard to choose, but our server was great with providing recommendations. We ended up with the brussel sprout caesar salad, crispy fried chicken skins, oxtail hash, chicken and waffles, and spam benedict. The pricing was reasonable and a great find!! Looking forward to coming back again!

Carson Kitchen has it all. Enjoy an excellent craft cocktail menu, an impressive selection of spirits, beers, and wines, and a menu to drool over. The staff is so attentive and personable providing suggestions on what to order and then expertly pacing when and in what order the food comes out. The food was so good we forgot to get photos of half of our dishes until they were already gone! Definitely recommend the Crispy Chicken Skins, the Devil's Eggs, the Bacon Jam (!!), the German Potato Salad, and the Black Rice and Oxtail Risotto. We can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. It has already become a new favorite for us!

I was super excited to try this place, but I guess we went at a bad time. There were several menu items that were totally sold out because they had a large party the previous night, so obviously the best items were unavailable. The 2 star rating is based on taste though. We ordered 3 appetizers, the cauliflower, oysters, and pork belly. Both the cauliflower and pork belly were just insanely sour without much of a flavor balance of other things. They tasted a lot better with piles of salt. The pork belly was the best of all 3 though, I think those who like Buffalo sauce would enjoy it. Sadly, that is a flavor I don't love. The oysters.. they were cooked and they didn't separate them from the shell, lol. So as I was trying to cut it out with a fork, it popped off with all the other toppings right onto the counter. I thought it was normal to separate oyster from the shell? Maybe that's only raw oysters, I'm not sure. As far as flavor, it just tasted like a cooked oyster. There really wasn't a wow factor for any of the dishes we ordered. I honestly probably won't go back to try other things, unless I'm in the area and have no other place to go.. The server was awesome though, we didn't have any problems with service. UPDATE: The business owner reach out to apologize and get more information about the afternoon we visited. I wish there were more businesses like this! I would consider giving this place another shot, as it shows they are making efforts to improve!

The bread pudding is to die for!!! Inject it into my veins. I swear to you I was getting fed up with how long we waited for the dessert (the only downside here) but it was so worth it I’m shocked. It was mad good! The food is delicious and I’m obsessed. Coming here from now on. Get a smattering of the sides and just share. The turkey burger is good. The cauliflower side was amazing. The nuts and raisin medley was great. It’s all good. I’m still just overwhelmed with the bread pudding. 😍

Must visit! Highly recommended by locals and Uber drivers. We second the recommendation We stopped just for appetizers. Turns out ordering just those was enough. The menu looks like we will be coming back on another visit to SLC. The cocktails looked amazing - will imbibe next time. Dry January impacted our options . They did have mocktails but we're out of the key ingredients for them.

M

The food and staff are just phenomenal! Val was our server and she was so attentive and sweet! The environment is both classy and casual. It’s very inviting! My husband and I shared the Devils Egg, oysters, shrimp, baked mac n cheese, espresso New York strip, the Chefs Burger, and finished it off with the bread pudding. The baked mac was to die for! I’m not an oyster fan but I would absolutely order them again, which is saying a lot for me. My husband on the other hand is a huge oyster fan and he said they were the best he’d ever had! I can’t rave enough about the food. Everything was delicious. We’ll be returning again and again!

10/10 restaurant! Amazing service, great food, fun ambiance- the list goes on. The food comes out immediately after you order it and the service is friendly and welcoming. The menu needs an honorable mention itself. It’s eclectic and fun and adventurous with bold flavors. The killer shrimp was out of this world and the desserts were all to die for. I wish this restaurant was back in my hometown so I could keep coming back to try the entire menu.

We did not have reservations and walked in just before the dinner rush. They said their tables were all reserved and would be filling with customers within about 20 minutes BUT they had openings at the kitchen bar. THAT is almost always our preference and we jumped on the chance. As a result, we were there JUST before the dinner rush was arriving and had a chance to briefly chat with the kitchen crew. We ordered several of the appetizers on the menu, skipped entree’s, finished with a dessert, and consumed a few adult beverages. When at a kitchen bar we almost always ask the crew what they would recommend, go with their recommendations, and plan to have fun, we did and did. The appetizers were delightful, as was the dessert that my companion and I shared. We ordered and shared “Crispy Chicken Skins,” “Devil’s Eggs,” Grilled Oysters,” and “Pork Belly” (at least). We had leftovers to take back to our nearby hotel refrigerator. Each appetizer was flavorful and excellent. Please note that when eating at any kitchen bar we advise the crew that we are very flexible regarding timing and food sequence. So, if you want to enjoy a similar experience at a kitchen bar, work with them. They were really nice but when it got busy, about all we could do was pay the bill, exchange "goodbyes," and say "thank you!" as we headed out. I coincidentally had a DSLR camera and did a 15 second (max) photo shoot during a lull in the action BEFORE the kitchen rush. They got very busy a short time afterward and would not have had the time for any photo later. I got lucky. We had a unique dining experience at the kitchen bar with a group of experienced professionals and highly recommend the CARSON KITCHEN!

We ate the Devil's Eggs, the Killer Shrimp, the Butter Burger, the polenta and the bread pudding. Super delicious! I would order all of it again, but there was so much more I wanted. This is a place we will definitely go back to!

Absolutely an amazing place to eat! The service was outstanding and the food is incredible!

This is a great place to try new dishes with friends. We love the Minted Snap Peas, while I generally would avoid peas, but this dish was so different with a full burst of flavors. The pork belly has an unique sauce that was good, but not great. We also tried the mushroom flatbread, which was excellent with a Middle East influence. The service was excellent and helpful in explaining the menu to us. Highly recommended.

A
Andreas Ramos

Wow! Unique restaurant with dishes I've never seen before. Waitress (Carlile) was super knowledgeable and helpful. This restaurant doesn't fall into categories. Eclectic, original, creative, and delicious. This place could be in LA, Paris, or Barcelona. If you like Cheese Factory or any brand restaurant, stay away. The one-star reviews are so funny. They should have gone to Chucky Cheese. Let your waiter make recommendations. Share the dishes. Spend time here. Definitely will return when I visit Salt Lake City again.

Stopped in for brunch after a recommendation. We were extremely lucky that there wasn't a wait for our party of four. We were able to try quite a few dishes, and our favorites were the chicken skins and chicken and waffles. It was all great, but those caught us with the most surprise.

K
Kortni Litster

I can’t wait to go back! Carson Kitchen has a chill environment with food and service to match. Hunter and crew truly go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and appreciated. My sister and I ordered several small plates (Corn salad, phenomenal shrimp, tempura green beans, chicken skins), the pork tenderloin entree, and brown butter and candied bacon ice cream with brownie, all recommended by Hunter. We are so glad we listened. Everything was fantastic! If you haven’t been, you’re missing out.

Really excited to see Carson Kitchen close to our hotel when traveling through SLC! We have always enjoyed the one in Las Vegas and this one lived up to our expectations! Crispy Chicken Skins! Yes! Plus that chicken sandwich and butter burger! Woo! We sat at the bar and the bartender was incredible and our bar waiter was great too! Very impressed with our visit!

F

So great I had to come back. Had the butternut squash bolognese both times. Also tried the Magarian cocktail, so refreshing! Excellent food, great atmosphere and better service! Definitely felt very welcomed to SLC.

4.2 rating is way too low. Everything we had was amazing. First, everything is shareable. Started with the deviled eggs. Comes with four. Silky smooth with caviar on top. Amazing ! Next we ordered the warm spinach salad with apples and cranberry. It is Thanksgiving on a plate. The dressing is sweet but so good. Perfect for two or three people. We then shared the chicken thighs and the pot roast sandwich. My 21 year old thought the sandwich was the best thing. I thought the thighs were. Came with 3 and could be easily cut to make six portions. We were too full for dessert. The vibe is fairly loud with an open kitchen and TVs on at a the bar. High energy yet still very comfortable and laid back. Service was excellent and friendly. The favors are from the south. Each bite was unique and full of flavor. Highly recommend.

a
amy dorman

My opinion - its current 4.2 rating is way-way-way too low. We got the deviled eggs, green beans, mushroom pizza, tacos, mac n cheese, and pot roast dip. Loved them all and had trouble picking a favorite. We enjoyed ourselves so much we brought our fellow foodie friends the very next day, and they also loved it! Our son and theirs both attend the U of U - we will all make this a regular stop whenever we visit the kids. Super outstanding in all regards. Oh, and Tucker gave us the best inside tips for how to enjoy the most of the plates we ordered. He was a terrific host!

M
Margaret Dow

Happened in on a random Monday. Wish I could remember the host’s name- he did the most amazing job of making us feel welcome and seen without inserting himself in the conversation in a way that was intrusive (he’s from New Mexico and he’s funny and kind!). He then brought back some hiking recommendations that were awesome. The food was also terrific- creative without being showy or strange. Great local and regional beer options, very reasonable pricing. Looking forward to going back.

J
Jamie Delvecchio

Staff is awesome here. Food was great. Had the oysters and egg platter app. I am not a fan of the eggs on the top. The amazingly awesome chef made me two without. She added pesto instead. They were perfection. Definitely, coming back each Mammoth game we attend. Thank you for all your kindness.

L
Leslee Russell

If you get a chance to sit at the kitchen bar, do it! Everything that comes out looks amazing and it’s hard to not order everything. Listen to what the my recommendation for sure. The wild mushroom pizza was out of this world good. We never had anything like it and we aren’t big mushroom or spicy friends but it was perfect. Pro tip is to squeeze a few drops of lemon on it to make everything come together. My husband loved his pot roast sandwhich and the donut bread pudding. The mac and cheese was solid and the bacon jam did was good but not our favorite.

G
Glenn Dunn

Wow, our first time here... four of us. A lively fun atmosphere and the manger and our server were great. The Deviled Eggs may be the best ever, the Killer Shrimp are incredible, the Mushroom Flatbread was maybe our favorite, but make sure to order the Mac & Cheese! A perfect pre-hockey dinner!! Well done!! Oh, I almost forgot, the cocktails were fabulous!!

S
Sven Rajala

We had a dinner reservation for a group of colleagues. We went family style and let the waitress pick out our dishes. She was prompt to take drink orders and get us served. She was a fantastic waitress! The food was freshly prepared and very good! I loved the macaroni and cheese and killer shrimp. They also had great lemonade too.

I
Isaac Romero

I wanted to give this place a try. The place itself is very pretty and has plenty of seating. Their menu is pretty limited but surprising. The black rice & oxtail risotto didn’t look very appetizing, but actually it was good. I would recommend this as an appetizer. Secret Sunday chicken was also good. It was ok trying out this place; now to the next one.

A
Andres Osorio

The overall experience was positive. We just felt that the food could’ve used more oomph (flavor). Nothing stood out to me that I’d want to order again. Not too busy on a Saturday evening, service was great, and atmosphere was good. The only recommendation I have for the restaurant is to put salt and pepper shakers at each table.

A
A Notto

Fun hip vibe! Friendly staff with great recommendations. Timely service, shareable plates, unique twists with classic dishes. You don't want to miss this easy walkable hot spot.

D
Darlene Kemp

We had a nice lunch in a relaxed atmosphere today. Our waiter, Dimples, explained the menu and the sizes of the dishes to us. The food is different from customary dishes in the fact that many different elements were combined to make a special dish. If you want to try something really good, try the chicken sandwich.

W
Will Hales

The food was incredible! Prices were fair for the quality. Not much variety, but if you think you’ll enjoy what’s on the menu then it’s definitely worth it. Pictured are the secret Sunday chicken and the chicken thighs

wonderful service here from the waitress i had. she was awesome! i loved the devil’s eggs and grilled oysters as appetizers. i also loved the cocoa espresso rubbed NY strip and the baked mac and cheese. super cool concept for a restaurant, taking a new spin on american foods but elevating them! i also did try two cocktails, and neither were my favorite. they were interesting but not for me and for the price at $12 i really wanted to love them. definitely a cool place to try!

T
Tia N

Showed up with a party of 7 and they were able to accommodate right away. Our server was amazing and offered great recommendations. The vibe was nice and the food was tasty. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because I wish the servings were larger. We ended up eating again after we left.

S
S

Came here because it was near my hotel while staying in Salt Lake City. I ordered a few items to try since I hadnt eaten all day and a few drinks since the bar looked plentiful. I tried the deviled eggs, risotto, skirt steak, turkey burger and a few different cocktails. I loved the deviled eggs and the steak. However, the risotto was not my favorite nor was the turkey burger. However, I loved all of the cocktails I had and the bartender was really nice. I would go back the next time i'm in town and try a few more items.

R
Rosie Turkin

We ordered takeout at Carson's Kitchen and it was pretty good! We were staying at an Airbnb in the Charles Apartments complex so we just had to walk across the street to pick up our food. It is a beautiful restaurant and the wait staff seemed friendly enough. The menu is New American so everything is a twist on some old favorites. We ordered the deviled eggs with caviar, the chicken sandwich, the killer shrimp, the pork belly bites, and the brownie with bourbon ice cream. Everything was above average except for the chicken sandwich. It pretty much tasted like a chicken sandwich you would get at Chick-fil-A. My favorite dishes were the deviled eggs and the pork belly. My husband really like the killer shrimp. The brownie and ice cream was really good but not so good for takeout. The ice cream was pretty melted by the time we got back to the Airbnb. If you are in downtown Salt Lake City and looking for New American food, Carson's Kitchen is a pretty cool spot.

C
C G

The place was pretty empty but I was stopped before taking a seat at the bar to be asked if I had a reservation. There was a large party that had just hit the kitchen so they didn’t want to seat me and then be delayed in my food. The devils eggs weren’t seasoned well. The “Fine, you?” cocktail was good and well balanced. I also had the salmon and a smoky mezcal cocktail. Again the cocktail was much more flavorful then the meal. The mango salsa was light with ripe pieces of mango, but with how fatty the salmon was (which was cooked to perfection) I needed more of the acid from the lime to sharpen up the flavors.

K
Kortney Humphrey

LOVED the food, the drinks and the presentation. We came here just before seeing a show at the Delta center with my 2 kids and another couple. My table ordered : the deviled eggs, (appetizer) the hot dog burnt ends , (appetizer) the mac n cheese, (daughter entree) the butternut squash pappardelle ,(my entree) the roast beef au jus sandwich, (entree) and the bacon burger (son’s entree) The food was FRESH and in many ways, inventive! I really appreciated that! A partial star was removed for our waiter. He was very kind but not the most attentive waiter I’ve ever had. I will say, the hostess was very warm who greeted us and inviting and the back kitchen you could watch cooking seemed to have a great vibe! The other loss of a partial star is because they charged a 3% credit card fee. For the prices already being on the higher end, and the tipping culture being what it’s become -this extra fee just didn’t sit well with us. :(

D
Dale Reinert

Menu consisted of unique combinations. Was eager to try many of the dishes. I ordered deviled eggs with caviar, wild mushroom flatbread, and killer shrimp. The killer shrimp was great, though a tad spicy, which I expected. The flatbread was good but it came with way too much arugula. The flavor combination was excellent. What does "wild mushrooms" mean? The deviled eggs were served at room temperature thank goodness. I would order them again.

N
Nessa Guillen

The food here is excellent! I had the trout, which I highly recommend—it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also enjoyed a variety of tapas-style appetizers, all of which were delicious. Unfortunately, the service really brought down the experience. Things started off fine, but as the night went on, our table was essentially ignored while a larger party received most of the attention. Our waters were never refilled, dishes we ordered were missing, we weren’t asked about condiments (we definitely needed hot sauce and salt for a few dishes), and after we finished our plates, it took about 30 minutes before anyone came by. In fact, the first time someone finally checked in again was at 9 p.m.—right when the restaurant was closing. Overall, amazing food but disappointing service.

K
Kate B

I wanted to like this place, I really did. I'd heard good things. Gordon Ramsay follows their Instagram. But boy it was not good. First we were seated and told Spencer would be with us shortly to take our order, kept not arriving and sweet Presley kept taking our order and helping us out because Spencer never came by even tho we weren't in her section. I really hope our tip went to her because she was the only redeeming thing about this meal. Cocktails were decent. We got the bacon jam and chicken skins. Bacon jam was essentially burnt bacon crumbles. Chicken skins were okay. Then the meatloaf also just tasted burnt. Many other reviews mention this burnt taste. Carson kitchen? More like arson kitchen.

L
Lindsay Cherrington

I REALLY hate leaving a review like this, but this was some of the worst food we’ve ever had. We are huge foodies and love and appreciate all foods and not picky whatsoever. We were so excited about the menu and wanted to try many things. First was the grilled oysters. Wow, all i can say is, I’ve maybe eaten one or two things in my LIFE that was absolutely disgusting… now i can add these to the list. Something was seriously wrong with them. I love oysters and i order them prepared in many different ways, I’m not new to what an oyster should taste like, and these were definitely rotten or something. I thought i was going to be sick after the first bite. Then we tried the deviled eggs, which was probably the only edible thing we got. They were fine. Lacked a lot of flavor, but were just okay. Then we got the pork belly, and that was also not edible. It was so dry, tough, and hard, you couldn’t even bite into it. Super disappointing. After 3 failed appetizers, we asked for the check and left.
