Visiting the area and highly recommend the spare ribs, burgers, and fresh cut fries. Everything was delicious, fresh, and hot. Our server was on top of our every need and kept the drinks filled.
So glad we stopped by, they do things big here in Texas! Had the brisket, ribs and jalapeno cheese sausage. Sides were mac 'n' cheese, green beans, fried okra and coke slaw. Loved every bite. We managed to share a piece of peach cobbler with ice cream on top. Great way to end the meal. Our food server, Jessica, was friendly and helpful with recommendations. If I ever find myself in San Angelo again, I would definitely come back!
The food was great and the employees were kind and courteous, food was great. I got the half pack burger which is a half pound beef patty with onions tomato mustard and pickles. I got mayo instead and no pickles. Very delicious burger. Good Mac and cheese. And I got one slice of brisket. Very good brisket and goooood bbq sauce. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Quick service as well, my food came out pretty quickly which was cool! Will be coming back.
Everyone in our group of 8 ordered something different. All good food in general. I thought mine specifically was bland. So I added bbq sauce and that elevated my steak fingers. The gravy didn't do it for me. The service was continuous and excellent and the place was hopping as it was immediately after the church across the street let out. I think the brisket or the burger would be more my speed. The 2 in our group had them recommended them highly.
Sliced brisket was good with Mac and cheese . The fried pickles were not, extremely thin and not worth it. Hush puppies were good . The chicken fried steak was excellent.
It was alright, nothing to write home about but decent. The brisket was a little dry and not very smoky... The sausage was good. The fried okra was perfect. The sauce was good but would have preferred it on the side & should have asked. The beans were alright but plain. Great service, food came fast and the waitress was friendly.
Bought a pound of brisket for 23 dollars, just to find out it has BBQ sauce pre-mixed in. I called to see if I could exchange it for the brisket they sell without BBQ sauce pre-mixed into it . He said there’s nothing he could do for me. Well, since I can’t eat BBQ sauce (literally), I basically bought a pound of chopped brisket just to throw in the trash. Minus 23 dollars. Cool. He even said “yea man, you shoulda’ ordered one of the sliced. It doesn’t have BBQ sauce mixed in.” No kiddin. But nope. There wont be a next time. Update: The ribs are stellar. I have gone back a few times and the sliced brisket is better than the chopped. Someone please tell these BBQ joints that you can’t chop and premix brisket in the morning. Just freshly chop the brisket for each customer. 10x better that way—100x even. Either way, the sliced brisket is good, as long as it’s a ‘good day’ (see hasn’t dried yet). It’s hit or miss, so stick to the pork ribs and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Ordered a two meat combo plate. Brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage. The meat came out pre-sauced. The brisket had a good smoke ring and good bend to it. There was no seasoning and no real bark. I couldn't taste the smoke with the barbecue sauce. The pinto beans and potato salad were good, standard fare. I'm not sure if the potato salad was made on site or scooped out of a tub. The bright spot was our server, Amanda. She was friendly, efficient, and kept our drinks full.
Ordered through grub hub. To say disappointed would be an understatement. The price you pay for the portion you get is crazy stupid. Brisket was dry, beans and Mac and cheese was bland and the banana pudding, I think my kid could have done a better job. My suggestion, find somewhere else for your bbq desires.
The staff were very nice. The service was ok. Not great but not bad. The food was awful. My son got the poor boy. The sausage looked old but tasted like spam and was mushy. I gotten turkey plate it was dry and had a process taste to it. My husband got burger it was wonderful. Fried pickles were ok. Just $73 seemed a bit pricey for the that wasn't all that great
It showed up in Uber Eats and I decided to give it a try. The first impression of a piece of plain white bread wasn't good. No spread, not toasted, no butter, nothing or anything. Just a piece of plain old white bread. Thanks, I haven't seen that before... I moved on to the green beans which tasted absolutely unseasoned. It's so bland that my mind went blank. It's good for meditation? Fried okra was ok. At least I could taste some seasoning. The brisket measured up to the green beans. I kept wondering when the chewing of the tasteless meat would end. The pork ribs had minimal seasoning and was lackluster as well. If you are running away from flavor town, you have come to the right place.
This review comes with a heavy heart. You see there was a time when Packsaddle was the best in San Angelo, but now I know that they just DO NOT care. We spent $50 on a "take out" order and did not receive any napkins or any plasticware to eat our 2 platters that we ordered. When we called, the person on the other end stated that they do not give out napkins or plasticware because they feel that people do not use them and just throw them away. HMMMM, they should have asked when they gave us the order? I know what you are going to say, why didn't we check? When a business has proudly been in business for "40 years" then you should not have to check their work!!!!! Enough with that, let's get down to product quality. Look at the pictures I posted as you read this. 1. Check out the unrendered fat on this brisket. This comes from not trimming the brisket before or after smoking. This fat is really useless and should not be eaten. 2. If you look at the meat portion, I ask "where is the smoke ring? A smoke ring accurse in the first 3 hours when the smoke chemically reacts with the muscle tissue. There should be at least 3/16" smoke ring. For some reason, I doubt this brisket was smoked for 14 hours as stated. 3.When your menu states that the platters are DRIZZLED with BBQ sauce, that DOES NOT mean tallow!!! Pouring tallow on brisket before you serve it is CHEATING!!! Look at the clear liquid at the bottom of the tray. All in all, this shows that the quality of the restaurant industry in San Angelo has gone to the dogs and unfortunately the residence of San Angelo apparently does not care. Restaurants are charging twice as much as they were 4 years ago, and if that doesn't hurt your pocket then you have the right not to care. It is time to stand up and demand the restaurant industry to give us our moneys worth!!!!!!!! After all we work hard for our money just like they do!!!!!!
Overall: NOT IMPRESSED! I'll start with the service. The lady that checked us out at the register was extremely rude and impatient. This made no sense considering there wasn't a soul in the dining room (we were picking up our order early to beat the dinner rush). When I informed the employee that this was our first time to eat here and we like to leave online reviews, she attempted to change her attitude (too little, too late). Now to the food. The fries were nothing more than a child's handful but that was OK after tasting them. They tasted like they were cooked in year old grease. Literally, disgusting! The burger patty was huge but absolutely bland. I've never heard of NOT seasoning a burger, even if it's nothing more than salt and pepper. Atmosphere: The restaurant itself was tiny but quaint. Decorated modern country. Appeared clean. Seems like it would be tight during a lunch/dinner run. Since we placed our order to go, we did not eat at the restaurant. The register is right by the front door. You are literally blocking the door while trying to cash out to the point you have to move over to allow people in. Considering we spent OVER $70 for 5 burgers/sides, I would have expected more. VERY DISAPPOINTING! On a side note, after looking at Packsaddle's reviews and reading SEVERAL 1 star reviews. It seems the owners are in denial of the restaurant's declining performance and offer lots of excuses or flat out denials of the negative reviews. A business's history and name can only carry a business for so long. It's important to read customer reviews and LISTEN and make necessary changes instead of casting the reviews aside. Good luck.
This place cheated us on food. In the photos you can see they charged me for a 1/2lb plate but gave me a 1/3lb plate. When I called to address the issue the manager told me I could come out there so they could fix their mistake. With gas at over $3.00 per gallon, no thanks. I am not wasting my time and gas to correct their mistake. Pac Saddle used to have the best BBQ in San Angelo, it has since gone down the drain. Reply to response: As stated I am not wasting my time and gas to fix YOUR mistake. How about go back into your point of sales system and correct the mistake YOUR business made of overcharging me for the amount of food given. If you want to truly make it right you have a picture of my receipt.
