This was my second time at the restaurant but the first time my wife and I dined here together. Our waiter was Marcus. He was absolutely phenomenal. He answered every question we had and took excellent care of us. The food is the best tex-mex on the Riverwalk, maybe in all of San Antonio! Do not pass this place up! The enchiladas are some of the best I have ever had at any tex-mex restaurant hands down. The rice and beans are superb. My wife had the snapper and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The cilantro lime rice and the veggies that came with it were incredible! I had the cheese enchiladas and added a chicken enchilada. Absolutely the best! We will be back each time we visit San Antonio. I added a bonus photo of the first time I visited. I got the tres enchiladas that time. Just as perfect as this time around! And don't forget to ask for fresh serrano peppers! I almost forgot to mention that the chips and salsa are great but if you ask for flour tortillas they are excellent! This place does not disappoint.

Love it; great Tex Mex food. The Crispy Carnitas were phenomianal. The menu has many great options. Food came out hot and quick. The Mixology behind the bar deserves calling out - best margaritas - very good time!

For all my Celiac friends out there, this place is amazing! 10/10 recommend. They have separate chips that are GF (the waiter said they come out of a bag but tbh are still pretty tasty), the salsa is delicious and the table side guac (GF) is the best I’ve ever eaten. The fajitas are very good (we got the sampler fajitas with all the different meats and it was amazing). Great atmosphere located right along the river and the staff was very understanding of the allergy. Margs were delicious too and were only $12 for a top shelf (Casa Amigos)!!

My first night in San Antonio and was referred to this restaurant. The atmosphere was so inviting and filled with so many guests having a great time together. I ordered the house margarita which was a perfect accompaniment to the Chipotle Chicken served with house made black beans, roasted corn white rice and sauteed spinach smothered with cheese which was underneath the grilled chicken breast. The Chipotle Sauce topped the chicken and spinach. The Chipotle Sauce was creamy and left a nice hint of the Chipotle at the back of my mouth that was absolutely delicious. This is a must go to restaurant that you need to experienced. My waiter Johnny was friendly and made sure to ask how my meal was. Promptly serving my drink and entree. Excellent location on the Riverwalk with both indoor and outdoor seating.

I seriously cannot wait to come back here. Everything my husband and I ate was absolutely delicious and the staff is sooo friendly. Also, we sat outside at night and the vibe was amazing. 10/10 recommend and would try again. I wish I remembered the name of the server, he was great.

We had a great dining experience at Acenar on the Riverwalk! The location is perfect—right along the water with both indoor and outdoor seating that offers a beautiful view of the Riverwalk. We tried the Trés Enchiladas and the Pechuga de Pollo Chipotle, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The food was fresh, flavorful, and offered a unique twist on traditional Mexican fare. The chipotle sauce on the chicken had the perfect kick, and the enchiladas were rich and satisfying without being too heavy. Service was friendly and welcoming, and we never felt rushed. Acenar is a great blend of casual and stylish—a perfect stop for a relaxing meal in a vibrant setting. Highly recommended if you’re looking for fresh, modern Mexican food in the heart of San Antonio.

The kind of Riverwalk restaurant and bar that exceeds expectations and desire. The jicama tacos - 🌮 shell is made of jicama!! - are incredible, creative, healthy and delicious. Don’t miss out on this tasty option. Drinks are of course excellent as one expects in this setting. And the view of the riverwalk from the second story restaurant is relaxing and fun perspective. The service was great and I would highly recommend this venue over or equal to any other SARW option. Taking a stroll back to the main density south is great but the walk along the river north from Acénar is awesome to take in as well.

Really good place to come eat. Ordered the meat skewers and I got to say that was so tender and delicious. I forgot to even take a picture of the full plate lol Service was absolutely outstanding! Atmosphere is what ever you make of it. It can be an awesome family place while also being used for a fun get together. The food may be a bit on the higher price but got to say was delicious

Would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting some delicious fresh Mexican food! I would’ve loved to sit on the patio but it was just too hot, instead we chose inside. The host sat us alone in a side room so it was hard to experience the atmosphere but that’s understandable, we had a toddler so I’m glad we didn’t interrupt anyone else’s meal. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the staff was super attentive and kind. Our server did a great job with suggestions and answered all our questions about the menu. I ordered a watermelon marg and it was delicious, fajita combo with shrimp, beef, & chicken. The shrimp were HUGE! Everything came out super quick, hot. Dessert was delicious, can’t wait to go back. I wish I could remember our servers name but he was great, we were obviously sat away from his section and he still made sure everything was prompt & we didn’t feel rushed. Thank you!

I took a visiting cousin from Germany to experience really great Mexican cuisine and we were all well pleased! We started with the tableside guacamole which was perfect with everything added and the onions were a little sweet&chunky which I loved!Serano instead of japalenos made it just spicy enough. The Acenar combo had a cheese enchilada and fajita and great Spanish rice and refried beans. My chicken breast Molé was great as was my husbands chicken enchiladas in a verde sauce. The very fresh and clean tasting margaritas were the frosting on our cake of life! The tajin was a surprise for our fun cousin!!!

This was me and my family’s first time in San Antonio. My dad chose Acenar to eat at and it was amazing! Our server, Jay, had EXCELLENT service. It was one of the first things I noticed. You can tell he puts in a lot of effort into his job, give that man a raise!!!!!!! The scenery was super nice. We went for dinner so it was dark and the dim lit outside patio was super beautiful! The food was sooooo good. I got chicken quesadillas and they were delicious. If I lived in San Antonio, I’d come here allllll the time! Again, Jay needs that raise! I can’t remember if he said his name was just the initial “J” but he was awesome.

During my visit to Acenar Mexican Restaurant, I had a wonderful dining experience that was enhanced by the exceptional service provided by our server, Juan. He was incredibly attentive, ensured our order was taken promptly, and even recommended a few dishes that turned out to be excellent choices. His friendly demeanor and professionalism set a great tone for the meal. I started with the $5 chips and salsa, which were fresh and flavorful—a great way to kick off the meal. For my main dish, I ordered the short rib tacos. The portion of beef in each taco was generous and perfectly cooked, making every bite satisfying. The rice and beans on the side were also well-seasoned and complemented the tacos beautifully. While the food was delicious, I would suggest serving the salsa for the tacos in a ramekin instead of directly on the plate. It would elevate the presentation and make the dish feel a bit more polished. Acenar delivers on both taste and service, with hearty portions and bold flavors. The short rib tacos are a standout dish, and the overall experience was delightful. With just a small tweak in presentation, it would be absolutely perfect. I’ll definitely return for another great meal!

We came across this place while taking a stroll around the Riverwalk. It looked very busy but, we were seated inside quickly. Our server took the time in pointing out the best things to try out and made sure that the kitchen knows about our allergies. While the food took a while to come out (quite natural during rush hour over the weekend) it was absolutely fantastic, we are from Amarillo and we had high expectations about the cuisine down here in San Antonio and this restaurant, did not disappoint.

We sat outside and it was very nice. We had a large party (14) and service was really good. I got the beef fajitas and it was very good. Homemade tortillas was a plus. The Mexican rice was a little bland along with the charro beans. It needed a little more seasoning.

You definitely get your money's worth at this establishment. I got the Pequito for one, and you will not walk away hungry with this one. The Tres Leche Cake was ok.

Fabulous location and really good food. Very standard TexMex fare. The salsa was on point. Very legit. The chips were light and crispy and almost like a baked chip. We ordered the table side guacamole, which was fun 😁. The chips that came with that weren't awesome. Kinda chewy and stale, but still ok. We ordered a couple of quesadillas and several different enchilada plates. All were good. Again, basic standard fare. The dishes we really enjoyed were the shrimp tacos and the chicken molé. Both of those were really good. Service was hit and miss. The server was really nice, gave good suggestions, and got our order in and to the table really fast. Refills were slow in coming and a couple of things we had to ask for several times. When things got busy or stuff got missed, the frustration from our server was obvious and awkward. Overall, we still had a good experience.

In a city with many other phenomenal Mexican restaurants, I would strongly recommend avoiding this one. Service was abhorrent, and we waiting way too long for drinks—one of our guests waited upwards of 20-30 minutes for their first one. The food felt reheated and really mediocre, and the tortillas tasted anything but fresh. Chips had no flavor and glistened with oil—I could see my reflection in them. The house margarita tasted like it had some sort of sour mix or way too much sugar. It was really quite bad.

Disappointing Experience at Acenar We visited Acenar at the River Walk and were very disappointed. The service was horrible. Our waiter had an attitude and seemed uninterested in serving or answering questions. After taking our order, he never came back. We had no silverware or water for a long time. We had to ask for silverware after serving food. Same with water. We were seated near the bar area, which had a lousy atmosphere and was noisy. Bartender was helpful and trying to serve us whenever he got few seconds free time from bar. The food was okay, but the poor service ruined the experience. Not worth the price or the hype. Two stars only for the food.
