Had some family come into town and we were looking for different things to check out downtown and this saloon came up. To be honest we didn’t know what to expect but we really did enjoy ourselves. The food/burgers were really good, the staff were friendly and helpful when purchasing our museum tickets. We took our time walking through the museums (about an hour and half) and made sure to grab a magnet to remember it by when we left. Their gift shop has some really nice Texas inspired merchandise, don’t skip it. We will go back, at least for the burgers.
If you are a person that enjoys seeing some EXCEPTIONAL Boone & Crockett Class Big Game this is somewhere you'd want to see. Some incredible Old Trophy taxidermy mounts and an amazing old building close to the historic Alamo👍👍
This is a super cool place to stop in. You can get a good lunch and then tour the museum. The museum part about the Texas Rangers was very interesting.
Truly unforgettable. Even party members who had no interest in going ended up having such a good time they said they'd go back again. If you have an ounce of curiosity in you, you'll find something interesting in this place. Feels expansive, nostalgic and sometimes even downright magical. Food was also tasty, from the burgers to the salads to the root beer floats.
Friendly staff and very immersive experience in the museum! Lots to see and learn! Take your time while visiting, as it can get overwhelming for young kids. They even have a PT Barnum section, which surprised us! Fun to learn and walking into a jail cell next to a snoring inmate was hilarious. Gift shop was very interesting as well. Highly recommend!
We had to pivot our plans due to cold weather. I'm so glad we did. The museum was really interesting and offered a significant amount of local history. My daughter loved seeing the animal busts and hearing the facts. We both enjoyed the Texas Ranger artifacts and history. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable.
This place is good ole fashioned cool It’s two museums in the location one was taxidermy and the other was about the Texas rangers !! They even had a replica of the Bonnie and Clyde car They also had food and great beers and a arcade with a shooting gallery The gift shop was also alright Would definitely come again
This is simply one of the "Gotta Go" places when in the area. There is simply so much to take in, from the decor, to the museum, to the great little gift shop, to the historic significance, to, last, but certainly not least... the oft overlooked deliciousness of the menu. This is simply an ideal spot to duck into for a quick refresher at the bar for your parched throat after a nice walk, or for a tasty bit of grub at lunch or for a mid-day snack. Service is impeccable all the way around. Smiles and enjoyment seem to be the order of the day for the staff, and it is infectious. You won't find much unpleasantness here... so step in, kick back, and enjoy the Buckhorn.
Had a solo-day exploring San Antonio from out of state, and I entered this place on a whim. $25 dollars for just one, which I thought was a little steep at first, but after finishing the museum, it was worth the price of admission. I’m surprised on how much I enjoyed the museum, ESPECIALLY all the unique taxidermy they had. The fact the you can order a beer or a cocktail at the start of the museum, and enjoy it while you are exploring the exhibits was a fantastic touch, and I enjoyed my experience more because of it because they allowed me to have a Blue Moon in hand (I’m hind sight, I should have ordered one of their many beers on draft) You have the chance to get up close and personal (without touching of course) to animals you’ve never known to have existed, and the plaques are to the point, and not a chore to read. They had a small exhibit that involved the circus which was a neat surprise, and the Texas Ranger museum was really something, but me not knowing their history, I couldn’t give or take that portion (sorry to all the Texas Ranger historians out there…) Finished the museum by having a late lunch. I ordered the “Cowboy Quesadilla.” Which was good.
Stopped in and did the museum. They have a tremendous amount of things to see and do, with interactive exhibits. Frankly I think this is the best, most elaborate museum Ive ever been to. It may seem small from the outside but it’s actually wuite large indoors and packed with a huge variety of things from stuffed exotic animals to the Texas Rangers to oddball things like 2 headed cattle and vaudville type things. If you’re in town you need to see this place! My only complaint is we went during the day, the wanted to go back to the bar but they close fairly early (5-6pm?). We’d go back though.
We visited the Buckhorn Museum and had a surprisingly engaging experience. The museum is packed with a wide array of exhibits, featuring countless animal displays that capture the essence of wildlife from around the world. One of the highlights was the recreated Western saloon, which added an immersive touch and transported us back in time to the days of the Wild West. There was no shortage of interesting things to explore, and we easily spent a couple of hours taking it all in. The location was also very convenient, being close to our apartment. Overall, it’s a great spot for anyone looking to experience a mix of history, nature, and a bit of old Western charm.
Definitely has the old Texas charm. Food is really good. The Happy burger is big, juicy, and flavorful. The fries could have a bit bigger portion size, but not bad. The root beer float was just ok. Lots of neat stuff to see and history to read. Pretty cool to think you’re sitting at the same bar as some of American history’s most notables.
Holey Moley in San Antonio absolutely knocked it out of the park. From the moment we sat down, Tiffany made the entire experience exceptional. She is the kind of server every restaurant hopes for -…

Nice lunch with son (adult) and husband. Very good food surrounded by much taxidermied animals. Chose not to do museum.
We loved this one. Although expensive to see everything, we had a good meal, saw some really interesting stuff in the bar area and museums. First you notice the mounted animal heads in the bar area…
Had a great burger and fries----huge burger for the money! Enjoyed the antler collection, the oddity museum, and the Texas Ranger Museum. Very nice staff.
Pretty large restaurant, bar, and museum in downtown San Antonio. The saloon/restaurant is really cool, covered from top to bottom in taxidermy animals. Lots of cool history on the walls. The place also has two museums, the Buckhorn Museum and the Texas Ranger Museum. The Buckhorn Museum has a bunch of taxidermy animals and other curiosities. The sideshow exhibit was neat...but some parts of it weren't working. The Texas Ranger museum houses a nice collection of artifacts from various famous Texas Rangers, as well as a recreation of old San Antonio. A plus is that you get to carry around a beer from the bar while visiting the museums. Had lunch at the end of my visit and the food was pretty solid. There's a lot to see here and you can certainly spend a good deal of time here between the various exhibits and the food/drink. It's definitely a little tourist-trappy, but still worth a visit if you are in the downtown area.
We just went to the three different museums/exhibits. We did not actually eat at the saloon. The two museums were great and the one had hundreds of taxidermy animals on display and the other had the history of the Texas Rangers and a lot of artifacts from the rangers. The third museum had oddities like a malformed corpse of a person and 2 headed animals and things of that nature, which I found very disturbing and I did not enjoy that part or take any pictures in that room. There was also a room with the history of Bonnie and Clyde and the car they were in when they died in a shootout with the law.
Someone gave me a free ticket to this - so what the heck we decided to check it out. It was a fun diversion with a bit of history thrown in. There are a LOT of dead animals here - if you are going to…

The atmosphere was unique but the food was mediocre at best. We ordered a burger and fries and it took 45 minutes to be ready and we were literally the first people to order on a weekday.
Nice casual bar for stop during your downtown walk. Reasonable prices and they also serve American food. There’s a lot of hunting animal heads at the wall. Very Texan atmosphere . Near the Alamo plaza

This was a very interesting adventure. Lots of taxidermy. Lunch was average and cafeteria ordering, but bar area was interesting to view. service was kind of slow but everyone was nice.

We stoppped in for lunch. The food was average. I had chicken tenders and they were okay, nothing special. But I wanted to eat in this historic place. We didn't do the museums.
This is an eclectic place with a museum for $22 a person which we did not go through. As far as bar food goes you have to go up and order and then they deliver to your table. My husband had the musket fire burger and it was large and he said good came with onion rings. I had the cowboy quesadilla and was extremely disappointed for several reasons. One it doesn't look anything like the picture in the menu imagine it with half of the amount of food in it and was greasy. The plus side of my meal was at the french fries were crunchy light and had a little flavoring to them. Add two Cokes to this and it was $45. It is an interesting place but if you really want a dinner I wouldn't recommend it.
The exhibits are good but it's so noticeable how under maintained the location is in terms of working and non-working features. There was an element of walking through with a character that just didn't work and disappointed my family. Over all I do think this is a good value museum and the food looked like good value and smelled good even though we chose not to eat here. The gift shop has good variety. I wish the texas ranger town had more to it as well. It felt empty.
If you like to see animal heads on the wall, ceiling, pretty much everywhere you can imagine, then worth a stop. We didn't go to the museum as reviews were unfavorable. Food was below average. The ch…
Stopped in for lunch. It's a 'walk up & order' kind of place, surrounded by kitsch and carnival atmosphere. chicken tenders were very good, burger below average. Plus, it was pricey.

Don‘t buy the overpriced beer glasses. They look nice but after one use the print went off. It’s just an adhesive film that dissolves in water.
