It's been awhile since we dined at Joe's after they closed up some locations in Dallas. During this road trip to San Antonio, we had a great experience revisiting our long time favorite restaurant. Hubby enjoyed his seafood lasagna. My Crab Daddy Feast was DeLish! Clam chowder was flavorful as well. Our experience was good on its own but adding April's excellent service, it's phenomenal. Highly recommended.

I was in town to enjoy my Birthday week and Joe’s was calling my name!! The view was the evening on the Riverwalk in Summertime, IYKYK. Marcus was our server, he was wonderful!! He gave great recommendations, was attentive, and he was cautious of our food allergies (tomato)!! I give Marcus a 10/10, he was a whole vibe!! Now let’s talk food … We would have ate in silence, but we couldn’t stop raving about every bite!! We had the crab stuffed mushrooms and the crab & shrimp dip for appetizers, oh so good!! The dip was recommended by Marcus as his favorite, and it is now our favorite too!! The mushrooms were also super tasty and come in as a favorite for us too!! 10/10 The pasta (normally has tomato) was made fresh and had tons of flavor, I really loved that the seafood was fresh and the crab meat was big enough to identify, they did not hold back on flavor!! A comment at our table, was the love of different flavors across the meals!! The Captain’s meal was fantastic!! We also had the Shark Attack, which was the perfect amount of tipsy to make me feel like I was eating seafood on a boat!! Lol The whole meal was a 10 and we will be back!!😎😎

I Was in San Antonio visiting my husband and on my solo adventure day I stopped by this restaurant ( I love me some snow crab legs). It was a great experience. Some would find it very awkward to be eating a meal by yourself but my waitress April really made me feel comfortable regardless! She made me a hilarious/awesome bib! Recommended me the shark bite drink which was yummy for someone who isn’t a rum girlie. The food was good I got a combination of the butters that I cannot for the life of me remember but it was flavorful with a tiny kick , the chocolate cake was definitely very chocolatey but I love chocolate so it was amazing to me LOL The overall experience left me with a warm feeling and a lot of laughter ❤️ Thank you so much April I appreciated ur kind/funny service !

We stopped by for lunch. Great atmosphere, decently priced, and most of all, amazing food. Our waitress was friendly and made some great recommendations. The variety appetizer had a bit of everything. The shrimp were well cooked & seasoned. But most of all, the fish and chips were on point. I’d recommend Joe’s Crab Shack for anyone looking for some quick, delicious seafood on the Riverwalk!

The Riverwalk is mainly filled with Mexican food which we aren’t a fan of but we do love seafood so it was nice to come across a Joe’s Crab Shack on the riverwalk. We started by sharing a bowl of New England Clam Chowder that was really good. We then shared the Fried Cajun Snow Crab meal that was both finger licking good with a lot of flavor. It was pictured on the menu with 4 snow crab leg clusters which is why we ordered it to share but then when it came out it only had 3 clusters which we were told is because it goes by weight. Our waiter agreed this was misleading. Overall we were satisfied with the portion.

Service was fair because she forgot our drinks, didn’t get the order right, and never came to check on us. Waitress seemed newish so she still got a good tip. The view was what we were there for.

We just happened upon this place as we strolled the Riverwalk. It wasn’t busy, and we were seated immediately. I don’t think the hostess told the waitress she had seated us in her section so it did take a short bit before we were acknowledged. However, when our waitress (Faith) saw us, she apologized about the wait. She was a fabulous server, personable, kind and appreciative. We just had a couple of cocktails and lunch: chicken tenders and fish and chips. Quite tasty. I have NEVER ordered fried fish before anywhere. I have no idea what prompted me to order it, but it was a very good choice. This was a totally unplanned stop on our trip, but it was probably our favorite. We experienced so many rude restaurant staff on the Riverwalk—to the point we don’t want to go back. But the staff at Mad Dogs—especially Faith—were great. Thank you!!

This Joe's is on Riverwalk right beside Bubba Gump and Hard Rock Cafe. I only saw the restaurant from the river because there was no signage for the place on the College Street side. The restaurant is enormous. The staff were attentive, and the hostess was very pleasant. One of the waitresses actually stopped and chatted with us for a while. She was very sweet. The place was pretty bare during the time I was there. It was a Thursday right at noon. So if you want to get in-and-out quickly, I'd suggest this time. I ordered a pound of Peel-and-Eat Shrimp with fries. They were slightly overcooked, which made some a bit gooey. But for the most most, I liked them. I believe if I got a half pound, it wouldn't have had that issue. My co-worker got their Thursday special and stated their food was perfect. This might seem simple, but the soda was perfect. The restroom was on the third floor and a bit spooky to be up there alone. This shouldn't be the case when it's busy.

Ambiance was truly stellar, and yes you get to keep your glass. However, we missed the keep your glass part and it was nearly $25 dollars for one drink. Also, all the beers on tap were generic. For a British Pub I went there expecting an english ale and was disappointed that there were none. Staff generally friendly.

We hit this spot for dinner on game night - it was buzzing. Got the flatbread and veg burger with sweet potato fries. Flatbread needed more crisp. Burger lacked lettuce/greens. Service was solid - funny greeter wanted to make biryani someday and the waiter was friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

First restaurant we tried on the River Walk and it was disappointing. We sat at an outdoor table for about 10 minutes, watching uniformed staff casually chatting without paying attention to us. I eventually flagged down the gentleman who was calling in customers. He joked that we were in his “blind spot” (the owner would understand what he meant). Once we finally received service, things were acceptable. Food and drinks were decent. However, one important issue was that the wheelchair lift was out of order, meaning there was no accessibility for wheelchair users to enter the restaurant, not ideal.

Each order is a per instance in the kitchen. Unsure if they can prepare more than one table at a time. The hour and a half was well spent in the atmosphere that was chill, and laid back. We had high hopes for Joe’s Crab Shack in San Antonio, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. My wife overheard a waitress rudely decline to serve us, which immediately left a bad impression. We were ready to leave until a young gentleman stepped in and turned things around with great service. The crawfish tasted frozen, and while the rest of the food was just average, the kindness and professionalism of our waiter stood out. We ended up giving him a generous tip and made sure to speak to management—reminding them (and ourselves) not to judge a book by its cover. We might give this place another shot in the future to see if things have improved.

Terrible food and very slow service. We got the Scotch eggs, they were 90% crust. Then we ordered the cottage pie. Pulled off the top layer and there was maybe 2 tablespoons of filling. Had to send it back. We had to wait a full 1/2 hour just to pay for the appetizer and beverages. No refills offered during the time there either.

What a horrible experience. I don't often write 1 star reviews, but I'll make an exception for an experience where I have absolutely no desire to come back. A romantic Riverwalk experience is the wrong expectations for Mad Dogs. That should've been obvious by the uniforms the staff wear. They're really going for bar maiden rather than any sort of decency. We sat outside in hopes to enjoy the Riverwalk atmosphere, but Mad Dogs seemed to actively work to destroy this. Right next door is a lovely jazz band playing where the patio can here it, but inside and just outside at Mad Dogs, they blast horrible music and have huge sports games. The music was a stark contrast with what was going on next door and hearing them both was quite unpleasant. Then at 9pm their musicians started blasting their own music and we new we had to leave soon. There was no warning that this would start within 35 min when we were offered our table. Sitting right next to us there was a man smoking a cigar right next to us, which was frequently leaving a stinging odor as we waited. That didn't add to the atmosphere we were looking for. We ordered a Texas Chili Mac burger and the soup, which the waitress tried to order, but found was sold out. Fine, but usually you'd be told what is sold out before being asked what you'd like. So we switched to the Longhorn Steak and Ale pie. And we waited for about 20 minutes before our waitress coming to tell us they're all out of that pie as well! So we changed to the Cottage Pie as a last ditch option, when we really should've left. Surprisingly 5 minutes later our order is out. The food was hot and the Cottage Pie was decent. The burger was inedible. It was quite obviously sitting under a heat lamp for those 25 minutes. (Ironic because it was cool enough outside that a heat lamp would've been nice on the patio.) It made the top bun crispy while the bottom was soft. The meat was poorly cooked and also dry. The rest of the toppings were such an afterthought they detracted from a dry overcooked patty. The Mac and cheese were in such low quantity that I thought they forgot them. When I brought up how the burger was so bad I didn't want to eat it, our waitress just offered to discount it. Apparently that didn't mean remove it or make it right, but instead give $1.90 off the price. Which ended up being about half the credit card fee I didn't see posted. Mad Dogs was really an affront to all 5 senses.

DO NOT RECOMMEND! Staff was inattentive. Sat down, no service, not offered a drink after a few minutes waiting and very few people in the restaurant. We were passed by several servers literally moving chairs. Bartender, Jackie, was rude, rolled her eyes and made a comment to a server as we were leaving. We were only addressed when we got up to leave the restaurant. It was painfully obvious we were not welcomed in this restaurant. Would like to speak with corporate office regarding my experience tonight.

I don’t often leave bad reviews, however, the service we received was particularly poor at Mad Dogs. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere we would like so we chose a nice table outside to enjoy the riverwalk. In my opinion the table we chose was likely in a blind spot for servers, but I do not think that warrants the mediocre service we received. We ordered a drink from our waitress, received it, and then seemingly got ignored by her for the next 20 minutes. This was particularly disappointing because we wanted to order more and instead of being approached again we watched our waitress stand around, not even engaging with other guests, for a lot of it. After the second attempt to flag her down as she passed us failed we eventually resorted to flagging down a different server to order another drink and some fries. It took another several minutes for our server to reappear to ask what we would like to order. In total we interacted with 4 different servers and the 3 who weren’t assigned to serve us did a better job than our original girl. If dining on the riverwalk please consider dining elsewhere. As for Mad Dogs, y’all should consider removing the table to the left of the stairs closest to the river as I believe this blind spot issue greatly contributed to our poor experience.

I was taken here for my birthday dinner because I love crab. To start off our waitress came to the table being rude. I brushed that off maybe she had a bad table before us. We asked her if we could order because we knew what we wanted, she rolled her eyes and said yeah. We ordered snow crab classic. When we got our food we both were handed the plate still in the bag and some wire thing under it. That never happened before. But I was hungry we later noticed that we weren't given snow crab like we ordered we were given a snow crab and some kind of other crab. We didn't notice until my husband cracked the leg open and everyone was black inside. I did touch mine yet so I called the manager and he said she placed the order for Joe's special. Not what we ordered. His way to fix it was he can give us a snowcrab classic to SHARE. when we checked out I was still charged for 1 snow classic and 1 Joe's special. If you are in san antonio I wouldn't recommend going to this place after the way I was treated on my birthday. Surfing Crab, Mr crabby, kings all have WAY BETTER SERVICE and take care of you when it wasn't your mistake. I don't know if I will ever go back after the way I was treated.

After a day at the beach, my friends and I were looking forward to some good food! It was nice to eat along side the river and enjoy the summer breeze! This was my first time at Joe’s and I was looking forward to enjoying some seafood. At the time, I worked at a seafood restaurant and wanted to see how they compare. We ordered drinks and started looking over the menu, the usual. We noticed that we hadn’t seen our server in several minutes. 20 minutes went by and we still had not gotten our drinks. When we finally got our drinks, we ordered. There were 6 of us. We needed refills, and didn’t get any the entire experience. We ordered crab, and were disappointed in the lack of flavor and amount of grease in the butter. Again, never got a single refill on our drinks! We wanted to close out, and our server was nowhere to be found. One of us finally got up to find her so we could pay and leave. We split the bill 3 ways, and food items were mixed up, so we had to stay even longer. Then we realized why our service was so poor… gratuity is automatically added to your bill. We didn’t want to complain to a manager because we just wanted to get out of there, and being in the service industry we know how it is. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I will not be returning. I do not even want to try the other location. Never again. On a more positive note, their merchandise is pretty nice. (But why even promote this restaurant…)
