Opinions de Paesanos Riverwalk San Antonio
A great choice along the Riverwalk! The elevated seating area gives you a perfect view of the river and makes for some top-tier people-watching (yes, it’s definitely fun). It was nice and quiet when we visited, which made for a super relaxing experience. The menu is simple but offers something for everyone. The portions are generous—especially the appetizers. I ordered tacos from the appetizer section, and they were easily a full meal on their own. 🤤 Definitely a spot I’d visit again!
If you are walking the Riverwalk and need a break from the heat (and the Tex-Mex), Mad Dogs is the place to be. My partner Stacey and I grabbed a table on the terrace, and honestly, you can’t beat the location for people-watching and soaking in the energy of the Riverwalk. The atmosphere is fantastic—lively, fun, and just the right amount of loud. The staff really leans into the theme (kilts and all!), and they were cracking jokes and keeping the service fast despite how busy it was. As for the food, the Fish & Chips were the real deal—crispy batter, flaky fish, and piping hot. I washed it down with a cold draft beer, which tasted amazing after walking the river all afternoon. For the Photographers: The terrace here offers one of the best vantage points for getting those classic Riverwalk shots without fighting the crowds on the sidewalk. Sit back, enjoy a pint, and get your photos while you relax. #SanAntonioRiverwalk #MadDogsPub #FishAndChips #SanAntonioEats #TravelPhotography #RiverwalkViews #BritishPub
Had a great Reuben at Mad Dogs. Well cooked, good bread, nice corned beef, good thousand island. If I nit pick...maybe need a little stronger sauerkraut. The location is great and nice to sit outside on the Riverwalk. Found it weird they were out of their "signature dish" fish and chips for lunch so that was disappointing. Overall a great place to stop in San Antonio on the Riverwalk.
Had so much fun! Great food with great people. Thank you for being open on one of the coldest nights of us visiting. It was our 30th Anniversary and you did not disappoint!
Great spot. Food was fantastic. Fish and chips were very good. Drinks and service were great. Soda tasted a little weird but otherwise awesome spot!
Sabrina did a great job taking care of us. It was our first time there. I went with my friend and her kids to check it out. We love the food and had a wonderful time together. It’s right on the river, got to see ducks and pretty scenic views along the way. Would definitely recommend it. 😁
This place was one of the best dog friendly bars I’ve found. Came in Xmas eve and the whole staff was fantastic shoutout to Jacqueline who was our bartender who got us dinner. You all looked fantastic in the Xmas sweaters. Food was great, atmosphere great, our dogs loved it
We brought our large group and had the best service from Ashley S!! She did a stellar job making sure we had everything we needed. She pays attention to all the details!!! And she was so sweet to talk with- even visiting with my youngest daughter for a while making everyone feel welcome! Definitely request Ashley as your waitress!!! The atmosphere was superb. We were seated right along the riverwalk (although indoor seating was available). All the food from burgers to fish and chips to drinks was delicious! 10/10 recommend!
It’s a pub, with great live music and really attentive staff. They were very friendly and did their best to accommodate my toddler, giving her pineapple juice and turning down the speakers of the live music for her without us asking for it. It was still too loud though, and they were kind enough to box up our incoming food for us and let us pay early. I love that so much, and the food was great!
Celebrated my birthday at Paesanos a little worried it was a tourist trap since it’s on the Riverwalk, but I was going for the vibes anyway, but it turned out to be SO good! The service was great & the food was excellent. Wasn’t expecting everything to be so good. I had a reservation & requested to be sat outside & they were able to accommodate my group of 5 (originally 7 but no issues) and seat us where we requested. There’s also parking on the street level right above it across the street so it’s perfect you just go down the stairs and the restaurant is there. 5/5 & highly recommend!
The food was delicious and the server was awesome! Although I don't recall the servers name. He was attentive and had great suggestions on food items. The food was excellent. I would recommend you make a reservation as we waited an hour or so to get seated for a party of 5. There was also a wedding reception taking place on a Friday night but soon after wedding reception was done we were seated. So that could have been a reason for waiting so long to be seated.
Our Server Alex did an amazing job in explaining drink options and Food selection. Went for 2 of your signature dishes. My lady loved the shrimp n pasta and I had the stuffed shells. It was a very intimate setting and Alex went above my expectations. Will recommend Alex and Paesanos to my veteran friends.
On a vacation from Phoenix, AZ and spent an evening in San Antonio on the famed Riverwalk. After the boat tour it was time for dinner. We stopped at a wonderfully fantastic Italian restaurant on the Riverwalk called Paesanos. Nicole helped us. She was friendly, warm, and helpful. She gave us her recommendation and gave us time to choose. The food was outstandingly amazing. Some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I had a coupe of drinks and shared an amazing appetizer of calamari, shrimp paesano, and artichokes. For dinner, I had the veal and my girlfriend had the Parmesan chicken. We will definitely be coming back. I hope Nicole will be there to serve us again.
Nicole made our dining experience absolutely unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, Nicole greeted us with a warm smile and genuine hospitality. She was attentive without being intrusive, offered excellent recommendations, and ensured every detail was perfect. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor truly elevated our evening. Paesanos is lucky to have such a dedicated team member! We’ll definitely be back and will ask for Nicole again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Service!
Made reservations for the Holiday River Lighting Parade. This is a special annual event that blocks off time for patrons to enjoy a multi-course meal and be on the Riverwalk before the lighting ceremony. Once the trees light up at 7pm, the boat parade then begins. Trying to find parking was a nightmare since this was our first time, but our table was still reserved and waiting for us when we arrived. We enjoyed our drinks and the food was okay, but our unassigned server took great care of us! Expect to spend about $300 + with extras and parking. Arrive an hour or more early to find parking for this event.
Spencer is a spectacular server! His recommendations were great, he was very attentive without being overbearing, and super friendly! The food is outstanding. Been here 3 times and don't ever want to miss a chance to enjoy the delicious food whenever I'm in town. Hard to recommend specific dishes because it's all delicious! Be sure to have meal here the next time your on the Riverwalk!
On vacation here in San Antonio for our anniversary and we love Italian. We were on the riverwalk and decided on this place. And it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The service was amazing. They sat us right next to the river which was beautiful. I am a sucker for restaurants with "famous" items so I had to try the shrimp paesano appetizer and it was the best shrimp I have ever had. So juicy and full of flavor. My main entree was the Chicken Marsala and I swear its the best chicken marsala I've ever had too. The chicken was fresh and crispy. The noodles on the side were perfectly sauced and delicious. The waitress even brought us a surprise dessert which were cinnamon sugar donut ball things. They were delicious as well. The whole experience was amazing and beautiful. And it didn't cost as much as i thought it would be either. I will definitely come back here again on our next visit to the area. You guys were amazing.
We came here for dinner with a group from work and we all enjoyed the atmosphere, the location is right on the river, the drinks were excellent and the food was truly wonderful, very tasty! The staff were also all very friendly and attentive. Our waitress was particularly great but I forgot her name. We had three people celebrating birthdays and she brought a cake for each of them, all different, and it was just such a special moment for us because we didn’t expect it.
Alex (Alexander) was amazing!!!! We had a wonderful experience at Paesanos Riverwalk. The service was attentive, friendly and prompt, making our Italian dinner feel special. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine and excellent hospitality.
Simply amazing. It almost felt like we were back in Italy. The Barbera was magnificent. The Parmesan Crusted Chicken and their signature Shrimp Paesano were incredible. Both were smothered in a delicious lemon cream sauce. The atmosphere inside was warm and romantic. The patio seating overlooks Riverwalk canal. The service was perfect. Kudos to Joey for making our anniversary celebration memorable.
We enjoyed sitting at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. The bartender made a mean NA spicy mango marg! It was our anniversary dinner and they did a great job making it special. The service didn't hit the mark but seemed like we just got a dud. He did not ruin the experience because the food was out of this world. We enjoyed Shrimp Pesano appetizer, cheese bread, lobster ravioli and stuffed shells. All were absolutely incredible! Pictured is the stuffed shells.
James was a fantastic server!! The Sampler for Two was a perfect way to try out the house favorites! The Lobster Ravioli was so rich and the sauce was incredible! The Fettuccine plus Parmesan Crusted Chicken - wow!!!!! So impressed! The Mojito was light and refreshing, and the Texas Old Fashioned was perfection!
Wow! This was the best dining experience! James was our server and he was truly wonderful. Will 100% ask for him again. This was the kind of dinner that made us excited to come back to San Antonio next year! Thank you for incredible service. Fantastic food recommendations and the best cocktails on the riverwalk! Not to mention the riverside ambiance. Loved it!

Food was average. Fish and chips were the best thing we ordered, also had spinach artichoke dip and a chicken sandwich. Service was fair because she forgot our drinks, didn’t get the order right, and never came to check on us. Waitress seemed newish so she still got a good tip. The view was what we were there for.
Mad dogs es super busy and super fun. The staff was excellent. Fish n chips and the wings were super yummy and great drink specials . We will go back .
The pizza was the bombs 🔥 The pot pie was delicious The chicken sandwich that I had was not very appetizing. 😪 But when we come back, we will try other things 🙏
We just happened upon this place as we strolled the Riverwalk. It wasn’t busy, and we were seated immediately. I don’t think the hostess told the waitress she had seated us in her section so it did take a short bit before we were acknowledged. However, when our waitress (Faith) saw us, she apologized about the wait. She was a fabulous server, personable, kind and appreciative. We just had a couple of cocktails and lunch: chicken tenders and fish and chips. Quite tasty. I have NEVER ordered fried fish before anywhere. I have no idea what prompted me to order it, but it was a very good choice. This was a totally unplanned stop on our trip, but it was probably our favorite. We experienced so many rude restaurant staff on the Riverwalk—to the point we don’t want to go back. But the staff at Mad Dogs—especially Faith—were great. Thank you!!
The food was satisfying, and the overall vibe of the place was nice. We went as a group of six and had a pleasant experience. We ordered shrimp Paesanos, snapper Paesanos, baked ziti, mac and cheese, and garlic bread, and everything came out on time and tasted good. Our server was very kind and provided excellent service throughout our visit. The male restroom was clean, although there was still an unpleasant smell. Aside from that, the food, service, and ambience were enjoyable. Dining outdoors allowed us to enjoy the river view, and since we went for dinner, the view was especially impressive and added to the experience.
We had a good experience. The service was fast, even though the place was quite busy, which we really appreciated. The food was good overall. We had shrimp Paesanos, snapper Paesanos, baked ziti, mac and cheese, and garlic bread. Everything came out quickly and was decent. The mac and cheese was really good and definitely stood out compared to the other dishes. Nothing else was amazing, but everything was satisfying and enjoyable, making it a good spot if you’re already at the River Walk and want reliable food with quick service.
Stopped by Paesanos River Walk and loved it. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo and a simple spaghetti aglio e olio—both cooked perfectly and super flavorful. Definitely save room for the tiramisu; it was light, creamy, and the perfect finish. Big shout-out to Mike, our server—friendly, attentive, and on point. Only downsides: the outdoor tables are packed tightly (lean back and you might bump the person behind you), and wait times can be long during busy hours. Still, the food and service made it worth it. I’d come back—maybe with a reservation and an indoor table. Food: 5/5 • Service: 5/5 (thanks, Mike!) • Atmosphere: 4/5 (tight seating) • Wait Time: 3/5 Overall: ★★★★½
This Italian-American restaurant is divine. The dishes were delicious and very filling. We had a table inside and it was a bit too cold for my liking… The ambiance is very private and dark (this seems to be trendy nowadays). It was nice to be able to see the river while having dinner, it was very peaceful. Food was very good. My bf ordered the Chicken Marsala and you could definitely taste the wine! My Cheese Manicotti was cheesy but there was a bit too much passata. Nonetheless we enjoyed our dinner a lot. Waiter, I didn’t get his name sadly, was very helpful and friendly. He recommended a nice place for breakfast and he was sooo right! We were very happy with his service and he was incredible! Wish I had his name because he deserves praise!

Ambiance was truly stellar, and yes you get to keep your glass. However, we missed the keep your glass part and it was nearly $25 dollars for one drink. Also, all the beers on tap were generic. For a British Pub I went there expecting an english ale and was disappointed that there were none. Staff generally friendly.
We hit this spot for dinner on game night - it was buzzing. Got the flatbread and veg burger with sweet potato fries. Flatbread needed more crisp. Burger lacked lettuce/greens. Service was solid - funny greeter wanted to make biryani someday and the waiter was friendly too. Definitely worth a try.

The food was alright, expected to be overpriced since the restaurant was in the middle of the river walk. Highly recommend to book your reservation before coming bc it could get busy n crowded.
First restaurant we tried on the River Walk and it was disappointing. We sat at an outdoor table for about 10 minutes, watching uniformed staff casually chatting without paying attention to us. I eventually flagged down the gentleman who was calling in customers. He joked that we were in his “blind spot” (the owner would understand what he meant). Once we finally received service, things were acceptable. Food and drinks were decent. However, one important issue was that the wheelchair lift was out of order, meaning there was no accessibility for wheelchair users to enter the restaurant, not ideal.
The service was terrible, slow, rude and arrogant. I ordered chicken parmigiana and was sick shortly thereafter. I will not return to this tourist trap!

What a horrible experience. I don't often write 1 star reviews, but I'll make an exception for an experience where I have absolutely no desire to come back. A romantic Riverwalk experience is the wrong expectations for Mad Dogs. That should've been obvious by the uniforms the staff wear. They're really going for bar maiden rather than any sort of decency. We sat outside in hopes to enjoy the Riverwalk atmosphere, but Mad Dogs seemed to actively work to destroy this. Right next door is a lovely jazz band playing where the patio can here it, but inside and just outside at Mad Dogs, they blast horrible music and have huge sports games. The music was a stark contrast with what was going on next door and hearing them both was quite unpleasant. Then at 9pm their musicians started blasting their own music and we new we had to leave soon. There was no warning that this would start within 35 min when we were offered our table. Sitting right next to us there was a man smoking a cigar right next to us, which was frequently leaving a stinging odor as we waited. That didn't add to the atmosphere we were looking for. We ordered a Texas Chili Mac burger and the soup, which the waitress tried to order, but found was sold out. Fine, but usually you'd be told what is sold out before being asked what you'd like. So we switched to the Longhorn Steak and Ale pie. And we waited for about 20 minutes before our waitress coming to tell us they're all out of that pie as well! So we changed to the Cottage Pie as a last ditch option, when we really should've left. Surprisingly 5 minutes later our order is out. The food was hot and the Cottage Pie was decent. The burger was inedible. It was quite obviously sitting under a heat lamp for those 25 minutes. (Ironic because it was cool enough outside that a heat lamp would've been nice on the patio.) It made the top bun crispy while the bottom was soft. The meat was poorly cooked and also dry. The rest of the toppings were such an afterthought they detracted from a dry overcooked patty. The Mac and cheese were in such low quantity that I thought they forgot them. When I brought up how the burger was so bad I didn't want to eat it, our waitress just offered to discount it. Apparently that didn't mean remove it or make it right, but instead give $1.90 off the price. Which ended up being about half the credit card fee I didn't see posted. Mad Dogs was really an affront to all 5 senses.
DO NOT RECOMMEND! Staff was inattentive. Sat down, no service, not offered a drink after a few minutes waiting and very few people in the restaurant. We were passed by several servers literally moving chairs. Bartender, Jackie, was rude, rolled her eyes and made a comment to a server as we were leaving. We were only addressed when we got up to leave the restaurant. It was painfully obvious we were not welcomed in this restaurant. Would like to speak with corporate office regarding my experience tonight.
Terrible food and very slow service. We got the Scotch eggs, they were 90% crust. Then we ordered the cottage pie. Pulled off the top layer and there was maybe 2 tablespoons of filling. Had to send it back. We had to wait a full 1/2 hour just to pay for the appetizer and beverages. No refills offered during the time there either.
I don’t often leave bad reviews, however, the service we received was particularly poor at Mad Dogs. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere we would like so we chose a nice table outside to enjoy the riverwalk. In my opinion the table we chose was likely in a blind spot for servers, but I do not think that warrants the mediocre service we received. We ordered a drink from our waitress, received it, and then seemingly got ignored by her for the next 20 minutes. This was particularly disappointing because we wanted to order more and instead of being approached again we watched our waitress stand around, not even engaging with other guests, for a lot of it. After the second attempt to flag her down as she passed us failed we eventually resorted to flagging down a different server to order another drink and some fries. It took another several minutes for our server to reappear to ask what we would like to order. In total we interacted with 4 different servers and the 3 who weren’t assigned to serve us did a better job than our original girl. If dining on the riverwalk please consider dining elsewhere. As for Mad Dogs, y’all should consider removing the table to the left of the stairs closest to the river as I believe this blind spot issue greatly contributed to our poor experience.
