Hands down the best part of our San Antonio sight-seeing experience. The food was awesome! The price point matched the portion size and quality, which is rare in 2025. We, a party of 7, visited during brunch hours. There was a very small wait, and we chose to sit outdoors due to the beautiful weather. We tried the pecan & regular pancakes, fruit cups, pork and chicken sausages, bacon, the strawberry waffle, chicken n waffles, and scrambled eggs. We drank strawberry lemonade, cranberry juice, and water. We also tried the gigantic cinnamon roll and the apple strudel. We requested they be warned for us when served and they did not disappoint. We are so happy our newly sworn-in Airmen chose this restaurant to enjoy on his day pass. He made an excellent choice. 10/10 would recommend you make this spot a must-have on your San Antonio visit.
Enjoyed breakfast at The Guenther House, a historic home related to an old San Antonio business, Pioneer Flour Mills. Great atmosphere and good food, using their own ingredients. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy so much I visited the gift shop afterwards to buy the gravy mix. It was an eclectic mix of old home, museum, restaurant and gift shop. A must see when visiting "San Antone".
The Guenther House is a true San Antonio staple and an absolute must-visit for brunch. Rich in history and known for its incredible food, the entire experience feels genuinely unique and special. It’s perfect for a relaxed weekend brunch with the family or a cozy outing with your significant other—especially if you’re craving their delicious biscuits, waffles, or pancakes. This place never disappoints, and I absolutely love it.
Visited for the first time and loved it. It was absolutely beautiful, and the food was great! Our waitress was so sweet and professional. There is a shop on the second floor where you can purchase cookbooks, baking items like measuring spoons and aprons, and more.
Beautiful place Breakfast tacos where yummy but nothing special. Service was great I would definitely go again it was very pretty and a good spot makes the 20-30 minute wait go by fast looking around
Top tier restroom! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very clean very sanitized Toilet paper felt thin 7/10 No toilet seat covers was pretty sad Ambiance is 10/10 So pretty and antique restrooms love the little waiting area and the lilies i feel like im at my grandmas house
a once prolific flour mill turned restaurant, this historic house hosts a wonderful breakfast with lots of natural light with foliage heavy digs, all in the trendy king william neighborhood. be prepared to wait a while! tried to come in march but it was almost a 2 hour wait. this time was only about 20 minutes. strawberry chicken & waffles was amazing! southern staple biscuits & gravy were also great. after breakfast we toured the museum part of the house to take in the weathered ambiance of the 1800’s.
The Guenther House restaurant is located On the grounds of the Pioneer Flour Mill established 1859. King William area. It was confusing finding the entrance & where to park. We finally checked out this historical restaurant. A country fried casual atmosphere. American & Tex-Mex cuisine. Lunch was fresh & tasty. Toured the museum & gift shop. Nice patio. Spot on service and friendly staff. We went during the week so there was not a wait, I've heard there can be an hour wait on weekends. I will come back and check out their brunch.
Food is very tasty yet very overpriced. I give it 5 stars due to the fact that you're paying for the experience, the ambience is out of this country. Very European vibes. Their patio is one of the most beautiful patios in the entire city. In my opinion my favorite waffles in San Antonio.
I attempted to eat breakfast here five years ago at 9am on the weekend, and I was told it would be a two and half hour wait, so I've avoided returning for too long. If you can manage to visit around 8am on a weekday then there's zero wait. There's both inside and outside seating. The tables were reasonably set apart from each other. It gets really loud with everyone's conversations inside because each room is fairly small. The menu is tiny for breakfast, but the food is amazing. Everything came out perfectly cooked. Our waiter was attentive and kind. I regret waiting so long to finally eat here.
Beautiful November day outside, our waitress Mikayela (sorry if that was spelled wrong) was awesome! Great atmosphere and historic building. With a gift shop and history behind the place! Definitely coming every time when I visit San Antonio! The biscuits were huge! And delicious!
If you love food that does not taste fake or processed, then you will enjoy the food here. Biscuits and gravy are delicious. You just can’t have one bite. Pancakes are fluffy. Waffles are great too. Tortillas are made fresh and the refried beans are authentic. My kids are picky eater and they ate everything. I ordered the club sandwich- I kept thinking about the sandwich all day long. Ingredients and bread are fresh. Will definitely come back.
I thoroughly enjoy this place. From great outdoor seating, to the indoor seating inside a mansion, to the on-site shop and museum. Excellent place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Come early or expect a long wait on the weekends or Mother's Day. I have been coming for years and will continue to return.
The outdoor and waiting area are very nice and well kept, the indoor is a real look into a wealthy family’s home of the era. Looking through the museum is nice after the meal. The food is incredible every single time, highly recommend the sweet cream waffles.
Amazing breakfast on a Thursday morning with my wife. When passing the front of the property I didn't notice the sign before the bridge showing where parking was located so we parked on a side street a block or two away and walked through the front of the house which seemed to be set up as a museum. There was an amazing, highly detailed, gingerbread house on display when we first walked in and gift shop down the hall with a lot of historical information about the Guenther House on the walls. The next room was staged beautifully with a Christmas tree and even reindeer. Upstairs seemed to be set up with a banquet room that had a great balcony with an amazing view down the river and back into downtown San Antonio. We then followed the noise down the stairs to the cellar where we found the dining area and the kitchen. There we were able to ask where we could find a host/hostess. We were directed past the pastry counter to the back of the building where the hostess stand was located outside a walkway. Apparently, the parking lot for the Guenther House is around the corner of the building past the stand. We were offered a seat outside immediately or we could wait a bit to sit inside. Since we had just walked through the packed, noisy dining room in the cellar we opted to sit outside under the pergola. It was a bit chilly (for San Antonio, low 60s) but fortunately each table had a heater aimed down at it from up above which was perfect. Additionally, each chair has a Guenther House blanket that you could wrap up in or drape over your legs if you felt so inclined. The staff was extremely welcoming, helpful, and kind. The house coffee was flavored with 5 different flavors and was delicious. Both my wife's meal and mine were so tasty. The biscuits were huge, fluffy, and baked to perfection. I ended up ordering a cinnamon roll to go because I had a co-worker say good things about them. I shared it with my kids later that evening and wow, perfection. I highly recommend The Guenther House!
Great breakfast at this historic location. The pancakes are soft and fluffy. Coffee served freshly hot. My server Martin is very friendly and efficient.
We spoke to a few locals who told us this is the best breakfast place in San Antonio. So naturally we had to check it out. This historic building right on the river has an enormous amount of character. They have indoor and outdoor seating. My girlfriend got the quiche and let me tell you, I've never seen her eat her breakfast so fast. She said it was the best breakfast she's ever had. I myself got the 1851 breakfast. Classic Texas style dish with sausage, biscuits and gravy. I was very impressed. I could literally drink the gravy it's so good. I'm going to be dreaming about it until the next time I visit. The food and drink was brought to us promptly by our waiter, Omar, who did an incredible job. One thing I will say, if you are coming here, be prepared to wait. We were told 45min-1hr. We waited for 1.5 hours to be seated. They did provide us with there signature hot coffee while we waited. It was all worth it once we sat down. Thank you for breakfast.
Arrived at 1:00 and only a 15 wait with a great seat on the patio. My wife had breakfast and I had a sandwich which we both enjoyed. The service was great and loved the garden setting. We took a sticky bun & cinnamon roll that were huge & well worth it. Highly recommend!
Wow, wow and wow. What a great location and what amazing food. The outdoor seating is one of the best you will find anywhere. Covered and has fans to move the air. The landscaping is clean and adds to the charm. When you can’t decide between the waffle and the biscuits and gravy, just order both!! They are both amazing in their own ways. The waffles are light and fluffy and the biscuits are just as good. The sausage gravy is fresh and has a great flavor. We will be going back without a doubt and I highly recommend giving them a try.
We ate breakfast for the first time, it was big portion sizes and the food delicious. Definitely worth trying. They had blankets and the heaters on when the weather was cooler.
Our waitress Natascha had amazing customer service, extremely friendly, and the FOOD was Absolutely DELICIOUS . I would definitely check in ahead of time online to help with your wait. The building is rich in history and simply beautiful, so don't forget to stop at the shop on the second floor .
Been here a few times now and the service and food have been consistently great. Waitstaff has always been friendly and attentive. I've sat on the patio and the maint dining room and have enjoyed the atmosphere at both. The food is amazing & delicious with large portions. The grounds are beautiful to walk on and take photos. I'll definitely be back. I like to have breakfast here and then walk down to the King William district and tour the Villa Finale house. Makes for a wonderful morning.
🏠 Amazing Cinnamon Rolls - Beautiful Home 🏠 Especially around the Christmas season, the Guenther House is a nostalgic, beautiful, whimsical visit. Enjoy a tour of the three-story home, take pictures in the traditional living room setup, and browse the gift shop to take home breakfast mixes, souvenirs, clothing, and more. Don't forget to sign the guest registry! Warm beverages and coffee are complementary outside, and there's an onsite restaurant where you can enjoy lunch or dinner. Wait times tend to be lengthy, and I probably wouldn't dine here again, but it's worth it once for the experience. The cinnamon rolls, on the other hand, must be tasted to be believed. They're large enough to share among four people, soft, warm, and coated with gooey glaze. I recommend ordering one in advance and picking it up, as they tend to sell out quickly if you try to buy them same-day.
Went in for brunch today. Used the new online waitlist before arriving to cut down on the typically lengthy wait times as this is a highly popular San Antonio spot. You must check in with the hostess upon arrival as wait times shift. This was my first time eating here since 20 years ago and Guenther House has maintained the delicious food, excellent service and beautiful historic home of the Guenther family. We had the 1851 breakfast and the sweet cream strawberry waffles. Coffee was great and had a hazelnut undertone. Can’t wait to come back. The gift shop and house is open as you wait for your table so no shortage of things to do in the vicinity. Also, free parking.
I loved this place. Everyone here was so nice. We brought our 3 year old and 1 year old which we were nervous about because … kids… but everyone was so nice to them which we appreciated. It was our first time ever eating out as a family!!! And I really wanted to take my 3 year old to have a beautiful breakfast at what she thinks is a castle. It made our days. The food was just as amazing as the atmosphere and hospitality. I had breakfast tacos. The bacon and sausage and that salsa is going to be in my mind forever. So good. Oh and the coffee, oh my gosh it was so good. I’d love to come back here again if we ever come back to San Antonio. My daughter had strawberry waffles and those were so amazing too.
Biscuits and gravy were the best! Waffles are better than the pancakes. Country potatoes that came with tacos were tasty as well. House blend coffee is a definite. Service and atmosphere were a plus to an already good breakfast. Good spot to take out-of-towners for breakfast or brunch.
Went on Saturday afternoon and were met by the most lovely hostess Natascha with great humor and kindness. We were informed it would be an hour and forty five minute wait as it was peak seating times but she went out of her way to make sure that we got the alerts for an available table after I told her my phone was missing calls and messages. We expressed preference for sitting inside and she ensured it happened. Once inside we were served by a very tall, very helpful and friendly blond man. Watching the whole team bustle around serving is a genuine pleasure - they have wonderful customer service. Had the chicken and waffles and pecan (flavor of the day) pancakes and the chicken was excellent. We were so impressed we came back Sunday morning. Natascha met us with amazing cheer and sat us promptly inside the tea room as our server. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we wanted and we never ran out of coffee (the house blend is amazing) or cream. The peach and blackberry preserves are worth having, but I would come back for the wonderful servers any day.
While visiting San Antonio, a local recommended the Guenther House for breakfast. We were warned that even during the weekdays, there may be a wait. He was right…. We went on a Thursday around 11 am and it was an hour wait. They have seating inside and outside. The gravy was amazing (we use Pioneer packets at home too). Breakfast was great. As you can see from the photos, we sampled the eggs, bacon, sausage and waffles. Desserts… we’ll decide for yourself. Simply amazing. Cinnamon roll and apple strudel. I would highly recommend this place. Service was prompt and friendly.
Just a wonderful little spot for some great food and scenery! The Sweet waffles were delicious as well as the Vegetarian sandwich. The fruit was fresh cut, ripe and sweet. The Strawberry lemonade was sweet with a delightful hint of tartness. The breakfast tacos were a nice size that came with a yummy salsa. Although I would have liked the salsa to be a little thicker and spicy this did the job. It was pretty cold out but the outdoor seating is a must. We were pleasantly surprised that they had heaters on and blankets draped across the backs of every seats. Such a nice touch. We will be back to try their famous carrot cake!
Eating at the Guenther House is always a delight. We came at lunch time on a Wednesday and there was no wait. We sat inside the quaint area. Coffee was hot and fresh and food was very good. There is a gift shop which I always go to when visiting. They have a nice selection of kitchen items and they sell some of their mixes here too. This time, I bought the sopapilla mix. We had a beautiful time on a beautiful day in San Antonio visiting the Guenther House.
We've loved the breakfast at Guenther's for over twenty years. Their pancakes, waffles, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and scones are all soft with a subtle sweetness. The house itself and grounds are a beautiful place to eat and even wait, as they're frequently full on weekend mornings and do not take reservations. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Before or after eating, it's fun to look at the little shop and exhibit rooms. The house is accessible from the Riverwalk or a small parking lot.
Oh Guenther House you stole our hearts. The Guenther House is the perfect place to have breakfast and lunch whether it's outside or inside. This charming historical restaurant has all the aspects you're looking for. I do warn you should get there when it opens, 30 40min after that hour you're on a waiting list. The well crafted items on the menu are perfectly timed out so that you can enjoy a sweet pastry before your meal. Don't get this place confused with a fast paced restaurant like Chili's 🌶️ , take your time and enjoy this place you'll definitely be coming back. The waffles are light and fluffy, the fresh fruit and whipped cream makes this dish simple but elegant syrup isn't even needed. We wanted to try a little bit of everything and will say if you're expecting those biscuits you find at a fast food place you're in for a surprise these biscuits take you back to the pioneer times. The flavors of that apple pecan danish was on point, fair warning please make sure you let them know if you do not want it heated up, it comes to you warm/hot. You must try the flavored coffee it has that cinnamon nutmeg flavor it leaves you with this fall feeling, add a little bit of milk and it's perfect. I really hope you enjoy the Guenther House as we did. Before I forget Natasha was the best waitress, she absolutely makes your time there enjoyable. #she'llmakeyoulaugh
Our mid-morning breakfast the The Guenther House was perfect. We had walked down the River Walk from our hotel (about a mile) and it was warm. We had immediate seating inside (even though it was Spring Break 2025) because many other guests preferred the outdoor seating. Both places were fairly full, and even mores when we left about 11:30AM. The cinnamon roll was to die for delicious. Almost had to cancel our other order because it was so filling. However, our server said we did not have to rush. Besides the delicious food, the house also offers a look into the various upstairs rooms which were well preserved from the Pioneer Flour family of old. Highly recommend adding this to your visit to San Antonio.
Wanted to try a new a breakfast place for my birthday and decided on The Guenther House . We both ordered the 1851 BREAKFAST PLATTER for $15.95 Fluffy fONER Biscuit, a side of Pioneer's Country Gravy with crumbled sausage, served with Pioneer breakfast potatoes, two eggs, Applewood smoked bacon and your choice of pork sausage patty or chicken sausage link . Sweet service from Brenda the waitress , my dad enjoyed his coffee as well I would love to add . Can’t wait to come again
Went here on a short stop for the most amazing cake ever! Only had it to go because the cafe was packed! The Gunter House is also a great place to visit, even for free. You can walk around, learn about the family, their ideas, and how they lived and worked. It’s absolutely amazing, a must, must, must see! And the cake is unbelievably good.
Guenther House is a solid spot to get food. Getting a seat is slow but the area has something’s to see while you wait. It’s right off the river walk and there is a small shop to see there. Food was excellent and the service was great. The breakfast platter was great and my friends Belgian waffle was just right. I ended up taking a coffee cake home because they gave us so much food. Cinnamon bun there is huge. Quite literally as big as your head. Definitely a fun spot to grab breakfast.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday breakfast. We were second in line before they opened, and once 8am hit, we were promptly seated. Our server was great, and the food was delicious. The landscape is so stunning, and the gift shop is not terribly priced on most items. Worth the visit, and I’ll definitely be back.
The Guenther House is absolutely worth the wait, no reservations, but the food more than makes up for it. Their breakfast and brunch are consistently fantastic, with baked goods that truly shine. The cinnamon rolls, waffles, sausage, bacon, everything is delicious. While the service can be hit or miss, the kitchen never disappoints. A must-visit spot for a classic and comforting San Antonio breakfast experience.
This was the first time my wife and I visited and it was AMAZING. We had to wait a bit, because it was crowded, however, they offer the option to request to be put on the wait list online (we didn't know, though!). The place is gorgeous, the service is amazing and the food is HEAVENLY. The house coffee is to die for. We tried a couple of things, but the crême waffles were THE BEST. Sadly, we do not live in San Antonio, but when we're back, we're definitely stopping by again!
Thoroughly enjoyed our time here last week! We went as a family of 7 on a Friday morning and didn't have to wait long (though we made the mistake of coming late on a Saturday morning once, and the wait was more like two hours). The food was delicious and generous, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was delightful, and we all found something at the gift shop afterward! The cinnamon roll and cookies were a fabulous way to finish off our meal!
This place was amazing went their for my 21st birthday. The place is overall nice very awesome environment people are friendly. The scenery is great there is also a store inside the restaraunt upstairs the things are overpriced in my opinion but the items are super cute. There is a really nice museum and an area to walk around and let the food settle.
We came to Jots for Sunday brunch because our daughter is thinking about having her wedding at the beautiful Gunter Hotel, and we wanted to check out the food. Wow! It totally exceeded our expectations! The food was delicious from start to finish. Our absolute favorite dish was the duck confit eggs Benedict. It was rich, flavorful, and perfectly poached. We also loved the hash and potatoes, they were crispy, savory, and just spot-on. The whole vibe at Jots feels warm and welcoming, and the historic Gunter Hotel setting is stunning. Bonus: we even got to meet the talented Executive Chef Hayley Unruh! She was so friendly and passionate about the menu, it made the experience extra special. If you’re looking for a standout brunch spot downtown (especially if you’re planning an event at the Gunter), Jots is a must-try. We can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend 5 big stars! 🍳
It was time for a breakfast morning with a friend. Thankfully my friend has visited this establishment before. The entrance is a little off to the side, so follow the directions. If not, be lost in the beauty of the house and the river below with a perfect view. A nice host/hostess will greet you to seat you inside or out. You’ll walk past the coffee bar to be seated. The house is just as original as can be. So cute. The menu is small but with filling combos. They also had specials of the day. I decided on some pecan pancakes and bacon. It also arrived with fresh fruit. These were pancakes were flavorful, and just the right amount of sweetness. The bacon was cooked to perfection, crispy. The waiter was really attentive and sweet. A place I would love to take guest next time!
Absolutely loved it! It was my birthday brunch. Our waitress was friendly and we only had a 20 minute wait and the food was really good. I love that you can explore the building while you wait. I also enjoyed the Christmas decore. Beautiful Atmosphere and the view of the river was lovely.
Grabbed lunch at the Guenther House—decorated lovely for the holidays. It is prone to get very busy, with long wait times and no advance reservations—especially on the weekends—so I came on a weekday for lunch when my schedule permitted. I waited about 15-20 minutes for outdoor seating with text message notifications and updates on the wait time and when my table was ready. During the wait, I walked around the house and visited the gift shop on site. I ordered a soup and salad, which hit the spot on a rainy day, along with a Christmas cookie for take away. The service and food were great during my visit although I would recommend patience and flexibility when visiting. Menu is included in the post. 📍 205 E Guenther St, San Antonio, TX 78204
During our Nov 2025 visit to San Antonio, we received more than one suggestion to visit the Guenter House, so we did. After a bit of waiting, where we kept entertained by walking the museum, we ordered the 1851 Breakfast Platter, Champagne Chicken Enchiladas and a Cheese soup. All three dishes were delicious and the appropriate serving size. Service was very cordial and personable.
The Guenther House was great! I found this place by googling breakfast spots near us and it was so delicious. My husband and I each had a breakfast plate with biscuits, gravy, eggs, and your choice of breakfast meat. The service was good and everyone was friendly. It was very magical outside with little lights and the weather was very nice luckily. We got there at 9 am on Saturday and there was about a 30 minute wait- fyi it got MUCH busier at like 10 am. The biscuits were a must-some of the best and the gravy was my second favorite thing. The only thing that needed help was the hot cocoa. It was very watery and there was barely any chocolate flavor we were expecting richer flavor for a $7 hot cocoa. We were about to leave and saw the size of the cinnamon roll so we got one to go! It was also fantastic. Definitely go and check out the gift shop too! Go early and expect to wait about 30 minutes or so.
Top notch breakfast. The cinnamon roll was on point. The biscuits and gravy was packed full of flavor. The quiche may have taken the crown, but truly everything we ordered was delicious. Staff were friendly and service was fast. Their prices were great especially considering how amazing everything tasted. Overall if you love food and want to be blown away with amazing flavors come here!
We had to wait almost an hour to be seated, but the meal made up for it. The outdoor park atmosphere was beautiful, and had plenty of seating to pass the time before getting to your table. Keep in mind it is Texas, so the majority of the year, this may not be as comfortable, but we lucked out and had great weather in October to sit outside. The seating inside was a bit cramped and loud, but it was tolerable. The staff was welcoming and warm despite being constantly busy. Our table had a couple of custom orders that they were very accommodating of, and every plate was empty, and every belly was happy by the end of the meal. It was a lovely historical spot with delicious food right on the river walk. There was even parking available for customers, which is not something you typically find on the river walk.
What a great experience!! The food was definitely worth the wait, from the lunch food to the breakfast was so amazing! Great atmosphere! Great service and they even have a gift shop upstairs! I got to grab there well know jams in a trio and there grade A maple syrup! Would definitely be going back and it was a great way to end my weekend in San Antonio! Would recommend a million times ! And our sever was great she was awesome! Oh and don’t forget to grab a cup a Joe!
Great location for breakfast with family or friends. The portions are very generous. We order the breakfast that included sausage & biscuits & we shared the breakfast. Also, we shared an apple strudel..by far the best strudel in San Antonio…Go early & avoid the crowds, & enjoy the ambience of the outside dining
Amazing place to visit!! Lovely gift shop, delicious food, gorgeous museum, and lovely staff as well! Everything is kept clean inside. I adored the restaurant, the interior is super cute! Definitely would like to try to dine outside on a good day as well! I highly recommend their quiche, though it changes often, hopefully you can try the one with jalapeños, cheese, and chorizo!! I am obsessed with that quiche and want it everyday for breakfast. Would love to try their desserts sometime soon! I want to go back already!
Such a gem in San Antonio! My husband and I took a day last Friday to have a little us time, which always mean brunch! We live in this area, but I always love to google cute, unique brunch spots near us and the Guenther House did not disappoint. Food was spectacular, the house was such an amazing walk down history lane and right by the river. You just can not go wrong here. We will be back!
Wow this place is amazing! It was beautiful all around. The food was PHENOMENAL! we arrived at the perfect time because there was no wait. By the time we left there was a line though. We spent about $20 per person because we HAD to try the pastries too!!! Everything was delicious. My mom’s favorite was the biscuits and gravy, everything was homemade and she got a side of preserves to try too and that was awesome. My favorite was the coffee cake 🥰. Once done eating, walk around and enjoy the amazing view

It took a while to get our food, but it was on Valentine's day. The coffee was not good, tasted burnt. The breakfast tacos were pretty yummy. The atmosphere was nice, pretty windows to look at the trees.
Came here for breakfast. Nice quant little place. There is a minimum waiting of 25 minutes to be seated inside. Outdoor seating does not have any wait. The outdoor seating does have heaters around. The food is decent and good. Not exceptional. The chicken sausages are very tasty here though.
It was a nice place, sometimes it gets too busy. The cinnamon roll was special anjd the hot cakes were good too. We made the line for about two hours but it was totally good.
The wait time always seems to be long but the grounds are beautiful and free coffee is offered while you wait. There is cornhole to play as well and the restaurant will text you when you’re table is ready so you can leave and come back. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The temperature inside is quite cold. Several patrons left to go grab sweaters from their cars. I just ate fast because it was a little uncomfortable for me. The food was good. It’s not great but it is good and reasonably priced. I believe diners come here for the ambiance more than the food. The grounds are gorgeous and there is a charming gift shop to browse while you wait.
Beautiful place, went during the week and it was only a 15 minute wait. The lemonade I ordered while we waited was probably the sweetest drink I’ve ever had (not in a good way) it had to be watered down to make bearable. The service was good, polite and friendly. I appreciated how fluffy the biscuit was and the sausage was actually quite tasty, I don’t usually like sausage. I really enjoyed the roasted pecans on top of the pancakes. Overall, solid place, but Iacking the wow factor.
Great food! Do not skip out on the biscuits. Hot chocolate was nothing to write home about. Pancakes were thick and fluffy. The meals are big enough for 2 meals as we both took leftovers. Check out the gift shop and small museum upstairs. Breakfast for two with 3 drinks and 2 meals with tip came to about $60.
We’ve been for breakfast a couple of times and have been able to sit outside. It’s such a beautiful setting. We always get the 1851 breakfast platter and it’s always outstanding. Today, we branched out to the chicken and waffles. It was not good at all; I do not recommend it. The chicken was a frozen piece that lacked taste and texture, just really terrible. And the waffle was mediocre. Definitely not a homemade batter. I’ll go back when I’m in town but I’ll never get the chicken and waffles. I’ll stick with the 1851 breakfast platter.
It was a wonderful brunch with the ladies. I love the atmosphere of the Guenyher house! I had breakfast tacos and a piece of cinnamon roll. The taco were delicious. I loved the salsa. The favorite at the table seemed to be the biscuits and gravy. Be prepared to wait. We went on a Sunday (brunch day), so the wait was 1h45m.
Our friends gave us a bag of coffee 20 years ago. So we decided to go to Guenther House for our anniversary. Walked a mile through beautiful neighborhoods to get there. I was pretty excited about the chicken salad, something they are known for but they didn’t have it. Service was not great and very slow despite it not being busy. However the food was very good when it finally arrived. Chicken sandwich and quiche were very good. Highly recommend those.
Beautiful breakfast area! Historic in its nature on the grounds of museum! EVERYTHING was fresh!! Environmentally conscious from the glassware, napkins and management of the space! There is outdoor seating, but we prefer indoor! Highly recommend. The wait time for seating and food was a little long, but the food was well worth it!! Our server , Mychala, very good! Highly recommend!

Went twice during our week in San Antonio. Can be a long wait to get a table. Limited menu but everything for breakfast except the specialty coffee was very good. The house coffee was much better.

Waited over 2 hours for average food. When we arrived we were told it was an hour and 45 minute wait, even when we were told that the table would be ready we still had to wait around 30 more minutes to be seated. We each had the waffle of the day and a drink, the total came to $55. The waffles were just average, not worth the price. The waiter was very kind, service was a little slow.
The plates are pretty. The location is nice and the food is good. For me, I’ve come over over the years and not much has changed. There’s almost always a wait bit there’s lots to look at or you can walk around. We sat outside and it was comfortable despite the heat. The club sandwich was good. Could have used more mayo but the turkey was fresh and the bacon crispy. The biscuits look insanely heavy and dense but they’re the exact opposite. They’re so light and fluffy. The chicken and waffle was nice. Chicken batter does taste like it’s flavored and the waffle had a good texture. The service this time around was blah. It was whatever. Maybe he thought we wouldn’t leave a good tip or maybe he was tired but we seemed to be the table he was least interested in. Also the “long” pour in a large OJ needs to be reassessed. A good three fingers at the top was empty. 😒 I honestly don’t think I’d go back because there wasn’t enough to bring me back. It’s definitely a cute place to visit at least once.
The place is nice, the gardens are well take care. We went on a Saturday, the waiting time was ridiculous 1.5 hrs., we decided to give it a chance (We usually do not wait more than 15 minutes). We ordered: BLT sandwich, club sandwich, biscuits and gravy and a 1851 breakfast plate, sodas and coffee. In my opinion the food is average, the service is slow and overrated. The prices are average, a little bit higher for what it is, but I understand that is because is a tourist attraction. We went to know the place but we are not coming back.
Great ambiance. It gives all the feels of having breakfast and coffee at a quaint mansion. Also, great service, and the staff is very friendly. That being said, the food was just okay. I heard the waffles were really good. The biscuits are not traditional biscuits: it’s just fluffy bread. And the potatoes were seasoned well but tasted old and just reheated. Anyways, if I come here again, i would try the recommended waffles. :) also, notice the menu is very small (NO KIDS MENU) so if you have any food restrictions, look at the menu before coming.
First time here after trying back in Nov. Wait time was 1 hour 40 mins, so we took a stroll around the Riverwalk and then ended up driving around. I will say the food was basic, nothing special as in taste, the biscuits were pretty big, not dry but not too moist either. The house itself is very nice and I love how you can go up to view some of the house. Our waitress was very nice and speedy. It took a little over 20 mins for our food.
45 minute wait on Easter, not too bad. My daughter and I walked around their "Museum" and "gift shop" while we waited. A little disappointed that the lion fountain on the top floor didn't work and there weren't more displays explaining what rooms used to be (minus the parlor and "museum" display. Once inside, I was floored by the loud kitchen noises and plates always dropping. It startled me so much and had me jumping, the waitress actually said "try to focus on me and not the noise". We placed our order and had to reiterate because the waitress couldn't hear over the noise of yet again, the kitchen. Food took about another 45 minutes to arrive. I ordered the strawberry waffle with bacon and side of scrambled eggs and my daughter ordered the breakfast taco with potatoes, sausage and eggs. Someone else, not our waitress, brought our food out with a bottle of almost gone Tabasco sauce and a small 2 oz plastic cup of ketchup. We ordered the blended coffee (Hazelnut/chocolate) and it was really tasty. My food was a typical "pancake house" serving and nothing to boast about, except the strawberries were really fresh which was nice. My daughter's breakfast tacos seemed original and were very good! I don't know if we will ever return, but it was a nice way to spend Easter Brunch with my daughter.
Wish I could give this restaurant 5 stars, but the experience was so arduous, it's a 3 star experience. First there's a wait for a table of about an hour. When we were finally seated we learned why, the kitchen is absolutely overwhelmed. After we ordered it took 45 minutes to just get anything. Our main course arrived before the soup, which tasted like it came from a can with only 3 little pieces of broccoli. Then finally they brought out the bread, which is the reason for the hold up. Sweet waitress, and nice atmosphere, it's too bad the place is so poorly managed.
Ambience and presentation is 100%. If you’re looking to take cute photos for the gram this is your spot for Sunday Brunch. When it comes to the food itself. My experience was very lackluster. Especially since friends of mine had hyped it up. The biscuit wasn’t warm at all and top was kind of a hard shell. After adding some of the gravy which was okay at best the biscuit stayed very hard and finally was extremely dry. The bacon was neither soft nor crispy. It had a beef jerky consistency. I asked for my eggs to be prepared over hard and they showed up over easy. Potatoes and Chicken sausage were great. I think that for a long wait time and slow service the food expectation was higher than received.
The place is really a blast from the past. Nice outdoor seating area. Inside the AC is amazing. The food was good, but not worth the cost. It was just a basic breakfast that you can get in other places. The biscuits are almost like slices of cake. The gravy was good. Upstairs there was a shop and a small museum. Really interesting way to restore a house and repurpose it.
They hate giving ice water to a paying customer, she literally filled my cups up halfway. Most of the staff is cool I get my snack and some waters for me and sometimes the people I’m with every Saturday and Sunday but this one waitress hates having to get me ice water and is always super rude about it. She’s told me before but today she said again, “there’s water outside” which is in this little container that gets hot and I want some refreshing water so I ask for it inside but she always acts like I’m asking for too much. I love the place but this waitress is killing me, it’s ice water and it takes 30 seconds.
This place is really cute and it’s built in an old house, but it’s really kind of a hype thing. We waited about 45 minutes and that was a good day. We tried to come before and it was an hour and a half. No reservations so you just have to get on the list and then be semi close by to come when they text. The building The seating is indoor or outdoor, and the outdoor has some cooling effects. You can explore the house and that’s nice. And they have a little gift shop. Also, insanely cute bathrooms Parking Parking is all around the street, and it’s free. Service The waiter could’ve been nicer. Sometimes he seemed curt whenever we were asking more questions. Food The, chicken and waffles were the stand out. They were so good if I went back. That’s what I would go back for. The sandwich with chicken though was pretty basic and Chick-fil-A is better so it’s not something that I would go back for for a brunch, but if I was dying for chicken and waffles, I would go back. The reason I’m giving it 3 stars is because the food seemed pretty basic for waiting that long and some of it wasn’t even that good An example was the pineapple was not ripe, and it was almost in Inedible. The iced coffee came with one free refill which is a nice bang for your buck.
High expectations. The home itself is lovely. We loved the shopping while we waited for a table. We were told 50 minutes, though it was longer before we were seated. At that time as well there were…
The prices were pretty good for the area and setting. The waffle was decent, but the scrambled egg didn’t taste like real egg and the biscuits were dense and dry.
Went here for breakfast based on several recommendations. The food was perfectly average, but certainly did not live up to the hype or the price.
We came here for brunch. They do not take resos and it's a popular spot so be prepared to wait! We waited around 45 minutes and walked a few blocks down to grab coffee and waste time. We were sat on the patio since inside was full. They offer blankets in case you get cold. Our server was honestly the highlight of our meal!!! I forget her name but she's vegetarian and absolutely hilarious. The food on the other hand was not good at all. It had nice presentation but it was soooooo bland. I think this place has a lot of history and is a cool experience but it's probably somewhere I would go only once.
The Guenther House restaurant is a good place to stop by, but not to dining in. Waiting time is unbelievable long! After we settled up, we had to wait for a long time to get a meal. Our order was messed up TWO times. We came to a restaurant at 11:30 am and we left almost 2 30 pm. The atmosphere is nice, especially if you set outside in March. So if you have plenty of time and patience, you may visit this historical place.
Unique and pretty. Does NOT do champagne for brunch. Can NOT substitute food items, you just have to pay extra of what you want. Sausage tastes fishy. Service was slow with hardly any checkups. Initial wait was nearly 2 hours. Does NOT do reservations.
The location is beautiful the inside is nicely decorated and gives a picnic in the garden vibes. The service was great my servers were kind and friendly. The food also came out quickly. I got the sweet cream waffle, two eggs and a sausage. Unfortunately the food did not meet my expectations the waffle was thin and was so sweet you couldnt taste the syrup on it. The chicken was two strips more than likely just heated up and put on the plate. The best part of the meal was the eggs and sausage. The eggs were 6 dollars on their own. Price with tip came out to 35 or so. Very expensive and not really somewhere I'd try ever again. The coffee was really good but I only got one cup not sure if maybe they don't give refills or just thought I didn't want a refill. Overall not a great experience for how much I paid.
Not worth the wait. This was my second time here. Food was average. I had chicken and waffles and the chicken was just frozen chicken strips and a waffle I could have made at home. Service was terrible and very slow. I am super disappointed because this place has great charm. No alcoholic drinks. The bakery goods were good and the chicken enchiladas (were obviously not made to serve) but were very good. Not coming back when there is an hour and 45 minute wait for mediocre service and food....
We were visiting San Antonio during the Paul McCartney concert at the Alamodome on Oct. 25th. Next morning we were wondering where we would have breakfast and stumbled upon Guenther’s. The wait time for a table was an hour and a half. Because of the hype about the place we decided to wait it out. Our actual wait time was a little over an hour. While waiting we explored the grounds, house, and the gift shop. When we finally got seated we were a little baffled by what seemed like a limited menu. Nonetheless, we each found something and placed our orders. The waiter seemed indifferent and wait time to be served was slow. We probably were seated at the restaurant for another hour to hour and a half. I ordered the sweet cream waffle with two eggs over easy and two sausage patties and a black coffee. First off, my coffee tasted like hazelnut, maybe they made a mistake pouring or maybe that’s just the way their coffee tastes, no big deal, I left it alone. Then the food shows up minus the sausage patties and all of it was cold. I was a little surprised that there was no toast or even an offer of toast , so eating my over-easy eggs was a little awkward and cold eggs are no treat. The waffle was thin and nothing to write home about. When the sausage patties did show up, they were cold as well. I get the feeling my waiter had a backlog of food waiting to be picked up and it was all sitting in the kitchen, getting cold waiting for him. The one bright spot of the entire morning was the rather large cinnamon rolls that my kids ordered. They were quite tasty! I’m not sure if the cinnamon rolls are available daily, (our visit was on a Sunday) but I would suggest getting the cinnamon rolls and skipping the wait, cold food, and unfriendly wait staff. Oh and, finding better coffee!
