This bar is what most bars wish they could be. Be it their impossibly large selection, the wonderful cocktails offered, the professionalism of their staff, or the decadent and smooth live music they have on weekends, this establishment is amazing. They have offerings for any budget, whether you're counting pennies or an executive needing to impress, they've got you covered. David helped me out on my last visit. Kind, masterful, down to Earth. Why can't all bartenders be like that? I love this place, and I always recommend it to those in the area. You won't regret imbibing here.
This is definitely my happy place! Their drinks are amazing, delicious, and complex! We have our favorites (Righteous, Dulce Fuego, Crimson Pearl), but we love to try their new, seasonal drinks. David, Jorge, and John (really all the staff), have always been attentive and absolutely incredible when it comes to customer service! Definitely a must try when in San Antonio.
What a fantastic surprise! Rock & Rye boasts an impressive and thoughtfully curated whiskey selection, especially for fans of Islay single malts—you don’t often see that level of variety outside of specialty bars. The ambiance is stylish yet relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind. While the food menu leans more toward snacks and small plates, everything we tried was solid and paired nicely with the drinks. A must-visit for whiskey lovers in San Antonio!
No complaints here. Their selection is unmatched in San Antonio. The bartenders were excellent - both in personality and mixology. Their cocktail menu is fantastic. Really, I can't wait to go back. 5 stars.
My favorite bar in all of San Antonio. Consistent bartenders are the best in town. These guys have been there for years. Reminds me of Europe.
A great spot for excellent service and drinks. The drink menu is top notch! The bartenders are mixologists and I love to watch them create masterpieces. It’s truly an experience. Spencer was our bartender and provided me recommendations that hit the spot. The tacos after midnight are very flavorful. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed!
Great bartenders, especially BB, Dominic and Alex. Everyone is talented and friendly. Love the ambiance, especially on a Saturday night with live music!
It's a great place for great cocktails. David, our bartender, after we told him what we wanted, had suggestions that we took him up on, and they were spot on. We will definitely be back when we are in San Antonio. I highly recommend this place. Thank you, David, for a wonderful experience.
One of my fav bars ever! Lovely atmosphere and staff. Last Saturday they had live music as well which was lovely. Drinks are amazing. My favorite is the bluegrass fizz.
Rock and Rye is an amazing place for drinks! The mixologists make it a special event every time we visit! Kudos to Spencer, Dalton, and Jorge!
Monica was the server for our large party and it still felt like I was the only person who she was helping. I was thoroughly impressed with her level of service and attention. The pretzel was good and I loved the yellow mustard. My Old Fashioneds were also well done. If you haven't been, I would highly recommend giving them a try!
Fantastic list of spirits and a wonderful list of beers. Both draft and bottle options are great. The cocktails I've had are top class and a great experience. As a first and foremost beer lover it's great to see some great taps like a Belgian (Chimay at the time of writing) and even True Anomaly out from Houston. A good mix of Texas and across the world options. While trying new spirits don't forget to look at some new beers.
David is hands down the best bartender and makes us feel so welcomed everytime. It you don’t know what you want, he will hand craft something special for you. This is the best Bar in San Antonio and the ONLY one we come to now. Going on 4 years now and don’t plan on going anywhere else. Best drinks and service ever.
Best whiskey bar in town, plenty of whiskey and tequila options along with great craft beer choices. Their happy hour is fantastic! They stay open late which is a rarity on this side of town from 4pm-2am every night. They also have live music on Friday and Saturdays. What sets them apart is that their employees are fantastic, they are knowledgeable, friendly and talented in their craft. Everyone treats you like family here. Also they allow dogs!
It’s an experience! We went on Valentine’s Day and although it was busy, the staff was attentive and super nice! Only thing is you have to call ahead to see if you can reserve a table or something cuz there aren’t much seating options!
David at Rock & Rye is amazing! He always gives great service and makes awesome drink recommendations. The drink he made for me this time was perfect, exactly what I didn’t know I needed! He’s super friendly, easy to talk to, and always makes the experience even better. Highly recommend asking for David when you stop by!
Had an amazing experience at Rock & Rye thanks to BB! The service was fast, friendly, and attentive. BB made excellent drink recommendations, kept our glasses full, and made the whole visit fun and welcoming. I’ve been coming here for the past few years and it’s definitely a place I’ll continue coming to!
Never had the food. The owner ship and staff is absolutely fantastic. Only of my most frequented whiskey bars in San Antonio and not one disappointment. Leaving Texas and I only hope to one day find another that matches or reflects this standard in my next home.
Nissa is amazing, she gave me and my roommate on a first experience at the San Antonio Alamo heights location. A detailed description of everything plus one on the menu. She is amazing! Love this location Messiah the bartender cute as hell and also makes amazing drinks. Thank you so much, San Antonio Alamo heights
Sarah the Bartender was amazing. She not only did her job, but she was everywhere in the restaurant. She was cashier, refilling, ice, Bussing a few tables plus on top of that bartending. She is one Amazing gal. This torches is located on Basse Rd., Lincoln Heights area in San Antonio Texas. This is one employee that Should be very well Commended for the awesome job she does! Thank you so much Sarah. We just found out your name. Thank you.😊
The food was wonderful, as usual. We were there during a busy timeframe and sat at the bar where Charlie provided excellent service despite being slammed. She really went above and beyond to ensure a wonderful experience. I highly commend her for her kindness and professionalism.

Really cool place! Very much enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. Drinks were brilliant, very flavorful and exactly what you’d expect. They have everything from the classics to new twist that bring some fun into it. Our actual waitress and bartenders was great! The service on the bouncer was poor. Not sure why this is becoming more popular. A bouncers responsible is to check ID’s. They are also the frontline of the restaurant they are representing. When they are abrupt and not welcoming, it taints the rest of the experience.
Always a good experience. Exceptional wait staff. I go weekly. A little noisy. BTW: I've lived in Central Austin since the early 90s and used to go to the first Torchy food trailor on S. First across from El Mercado. I'd see and chat with Mike Rypka at the trailor often. Glad you all are a success.
I had a bowl because the idea of paying per taco wasn't appealing to me peraonally. My wife had some brisket tacos and they were good, a little bigger than a standard taco. The chicken on my bowl was dry and salsa was not hot. More of a Tex-Mex spot.
I love Torchy's, but don't visit often because it's pretty far from my hood. I went after an appt, about 2:30, and it wasn't very busy. There was 1 person working the register but they have implemented a couple of self- order kiosks which helps with the line. The ice machine was out of ice and it was taking quite awhile for that to get remedied so the bartender was kind enough to provide ice! ♥️ The food and service otherwise was great. I had the salmon taco (don't remember the name) and the dip sampler. Took most of that home. All was delish.
This was the 4th Torchy'sTacos I've been to and they all have had their thermostats set to Cold. Other than that, the food is fantastic and the bartenders are friendly. This is the first one that got their churros perfect - cooked thoroughly without being burnt. Kudos.

I placed an order to go and they packed up half our order and not the other half. Then just gave us foil to pack the rest up ourselves. It was a little inconvenient and frustrating for the price.

Great place but kind of expensive for tacos. I'd recommend and definitely come back. I wish the prices were friendlier.
Restaurant was clean! Sat at the bar! Bartenders were very friendly! Tocos were very good! I would def go back!
Breakfast tacos and no Coffee. What gives...but a full liquor bar. That is what has made my decision not to eat there.!!!

Food was as expected everything was fine but the girl at the front was refilling the ice in the fountain machine and just using her hand to wash it around. Super gross. Makes me think if they’re doing that out front what are they doing in the back.
We've been pretty steady Torchy customers; once or twice a week or so for the past few years. After some recent changes at the restaurant, my patronage too will change. It started with swapping unique soda fountain drinks for generic Coke products. Recently their infamous "Diablo Sauce" recipe changed and what used to be a complex and spicy taco topping is now a garlicy mild mess. And the final straw? No more smiling faces at the counter, it's self service kiosks that's aren't intuitive, slow the line down tremendously, and have the balls to ask for a tip after you ring up your own order. Done with Torchy's, it's been a good run.
Every time I come to this location I have to use a kiosk. The kiosk process is cumbersome & time consuming. Then, after I use the kiosk I have to find someone to get my drink cup. There's even a prin…
Not really Mexican food. The cheese and chips were nothing to brag about. Plain Velveeta with Avocado and cotijo cheese. The brisket taco tasted like it was drenched in Claude Sauce. Lettuce and ve…
This was unfortunately one of the most disappointing service experiences I’ve had at a “luxury” bar in Texas. As someone who works in the bar industry, I was excited to try this place and intentionally ordered based on my knowledge of Japanese whiskey and gin. I ordered a Japanese Old Fashioned and a $7 gin cocktail with egg white and lemon. The first drink was almost entirely foam with very little actual cocktail. For the second, I was given well gin because they had run out of the $7 option I selected. When I closed out, I was shocked to see I had been charged $20 per drink. I spoke with another bartender to clarify, and instead of a conversation, I was cut off mid-sentence and told it was the “base price” and that it was my fault for not asking. I had asked multiple questions throughout the ordering process, including about pricing, and at no point was a $20 base cocktail price explained. Had that been communicated clearly, I would have made a different decision. I fully understand a cocktail upcharge of a few dollars — but $20 for a well gin drink without transparency feels excessive and misleading. What made the experience worse was the overall tone. The bartenders and barback were openly laughing at and speaking poorly about another guest (who was standing right there), which felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. The atmosphere did not match the “luxury” branding. I chose this establishment because it’s close to home and was hoping it would become a regular spot. Instead, I left feeling disappointed and unwelcome. Transparency and professionalism go a long way, especially in this industry. *** I did read your response. My concern was that I did not order a Clover Club from the cocktail menu. I selected a gin from your spirits list and named the ingredients while asking about pricing since it was my first time visiting. At no point was a $20 base cocktail price explained to me, which is why the total was surprising. Transparency was the main point of my review. The Applebee’s comment in your response also felt unnecessarily dismissive toward a guest simply asking about pricing.
I ordered two build your own breakfast tacos, one with bacon, egg and pico de gallo and the other with bean, cheese and bacon. The beans and cheese did not have bacon but I did get a couple of bites of something hard and fatty, maybe bacon? My bacon and egg did not have my pico and look like it had slices of ham with some bacon, and the eggs were overcooked and dry. There's too many choices in San Antonio to choose from for breakfast tacos. I won't be coming back here.

Torchy's Tacos: Alamo Heights' Go-To, Despite a Hiccup or Two
Alright, San Antonio, let's talk about Torchy's Tacos. I've heard a few of you joking, saying, “Oh Torchy's, I think you just 'torched' yourself!” (Face palm.) But let's be real, for many of us, this spot, especially the Alamo Heights location, has been a long-time favorite for a reason. It’s the kind of place you can hit up for literally any meal – brunch, lunch, or dinner – and usually walk away happy. The vibe is always buzzing, and their creative tacos really hit the spot when you're cravi...
