Opinions de Bleu Boheme San Diego
Angelique was absolutely fabulous! She took her time to explain the menu and all the specials. She was patient with my husband and I with ordering food and drinks. She even had the bartender make me another espresso martini with more baileys. The overall experience was amazing! I got the surf and turf frites. They were delicious! Highly recommend!
Excellent waitress, excellent drinks and appetizers, and wonderfully flavored entrees. Great ambiance inside and out. A little on the pricey side, but you pretty much know that when going in to a restaurant like Bleu Bohème. The bread was great and passed my European fiance's texture test. The wine and whiskey mule were great. The gnocchi appetizer was incredibly delicious but be careful as it's very fulfilling. I can't rave enough about the duck, it was crispy on the outside and flavorfilled juicy on the inside, I only wish I could have more!!
Authentic and Bohemian Paris Restaurant cuisine in San Diego. The food is amazing! The ambience is of romance and friends’ gathering. No matter the occasion. Blue Boheme restaurant will give you the French Experience you were looking for. So, come and taste this extraordinary food and feel your soul lift with every bite. FYI: Their bread is delicious, it gives you a feeling of home!
We had three special occasions to celebrate-a birthday, a new job, and a wedding anniversary. This was a great place for celebrating! Our food and service were superb. The chef came out to make sure our food was good and that we were enjoying our evening. It was a Saturday night, so there were lots of people enjoying this restaurant; there was a little more noise than I would have liked. The parking can be difficult - there is a small shared lot, but not much street parking. It was a lovely evening, and I hope to go to Bleu Boheme again soon!
Wonderful birthday dinner with my husband! We started out with the gnocchi, which was wonderful. Then, my husband had the butcher’a cut steak frites. Beautiful cut of steak; so tender, perfectly cooked. I had the St. Jacques coquillette. The risotto wasn’t quite my taste, but the scallops were delicious! We finished the meal with mousse au chocolat and pain d’épice, and both were very tasty. The pain d’épice gives off wonderful autumn vibes. We can’t wait to go back!
The food is excellent but pricy. We’ve been coming a couple times a year for years. We recently went there on a Saturday night and it wasn’t busy at all. Used to be packed. Seems like they’ve become too expensive. The chicken, beef and shrimp risotto were all very good. As are the mussels.
Arrived tonight for my husband’s birthday dinner with our 4 month old. I know, I know. What were we thinking bringing a 4 month old to a nice restaurant near bedtime on a Friday night?!? In our defense, he’s a really chill baby. He stuck it out through drinks & appetizers staring intently at the candle lit on the table for entertainment, but shortly passed out prior to entrees arriving🤦🏻♀️ We asked the WONDERFUL, attentive staff if we could possibly have the entrees prepared to go, so we could enjoy together at home. Staff went above and beyond to quickly get our food packaged up - beautifully, I might add - while we finished our drinks. They were so kind and understanding. Service was a 10/10. Upon arriving home, we got the munchkin to bed and served up our plates. THIS MEAL WAS AMAZING! 10/10! The duck was cooked perfectly - crispy skin, moist & juicy. The big eye tuna special was SO fresh. Seared lightly, seasoned perfectly, and paired well with the sides. A bonus bread & butter was added as well since we didn’t get to finish ours at the restaurant. Great experience overall! Definitely recommend for a delicious French meal in San Diego!
This might be my new favorite restaurant! Honestly, the overall vibe was amazing— everyone seemed to be having the meal of their life. The atmosphere gives ‘beloved neighborhood bistro,’ and the food is as delicious as the service is excellent. Highly recommend moules frites a la moutard, which are like the traditional garlic, white wine, and shallots, plus Dijon mustard. They were glorious. If you’re at all inclined toward charcuterie and bread, that was also wonderful. The pork terrine was the most craveable I’ve had anywhere in town. Will definitely be coming back here for birthdays and other celebrations!
The cutest French bistro for a little night out with the girls. Food was so yummy and elegant , and the outdoor seating at night was the perf atmosphere to sit , chat , goss with some bread on the side. Servers were very friendly , and everything was delicious. Could be a great date night spot or family spot as well. Also food was so picture-worthy, could not resist .
We did family style, sharing the beet salad, French onion soup, gnocchi, Brussels sprouts, and boeuf bourguignon. We loved the French onion soup, gnocchi and boeuf. The soup was much herbier than usual but was delicious. The gnocchi were like light, airy clouds- so delicious. And the boeuf was rich and so flavorful and tender. We’ll be back!
Amazing food! I love the cozy atmosphere where you can have a nice conversation with your friends. The music wasn't too loud, and the music was just right. I ordered the best salmon of my life. The salmon skin was crunchy and the salmon is moist and juicy! It was amazing. I ordered cream brulee which never came but that's ok. We had an amazing time. Good for small gathering!
Love this place, decent size and not super busy like other similarly elegant French restaurants. So one can usually get a table which is great! The parking isn't always great cause Kensington gets busy, but its worth a little walk to get there! The food is awesome, yes, I said awesome and I meant it. Everytime its spot on, portions are great, wine is excellent, staff is nice and prompt. This is a gem, highly recommended! Had crab cakes and mussels this time. The mussels come with a bunch of sauce options, I cant wait to try them all!
This place was terrific, merci. Both escargot options were fantastic, though a bit similar (maybe that was the wine). They have a lavender champaigne 😍), and so much fabulous wine, perfecto. I had the croquet de garcon (which turned out to be a hamburger and not a steak) that was excellent topped with a fried egg which I love and my lovely date ate a perfectly cooked duck. The duck was on a cremed mash potatoes bed with veggie ratatouille, good! Parking was easy since they have there own little lot and there is alot of street parking in the pretty and safe Kensington district. The location was good, the accommodations for covid are excellent, all outdoors, space heaters at every table and only a few tables were on tilt! Go eat here, take someone special, it will be a night to remember and relax while eating a outstanding meal!
Absolutely one of the best French restaurants I have found in SD. The decor, the ambience and the food were all top notch. We had a fromage and charcuterie plate to start. Then beef bourguignon and Brussel sprouts/squash vegetables 😋 and an amazing dessert menu. Wonderful wine menu! We will definitely be back again asap!
It’s Restaurant Week again, and I’d highly recommend giving this French restaurant a try. At around $65 per person, it offers great value for the experience. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the French ambiance—the lighting, candles, décor, and overall pace are all very charming. It’s a great spot for a date or a small gathering with friends. The menu leans toward classic French cuisine, with elegant plating and refined flavors, not overly showy or pretentious. Every dish we ordered stood out, with well-layered sauces that clearly show the chef’s attention to detail. For starters, the Rillettes de Saumon is highly recommended—it’s so good you’ll want to keep eating it. For the main course, the Confit de Canard is a must-try. This traditional dish from the Gascony region in southwestern France involves curing duck legs with salt and spices, then slowly cooking them in duck fat until the meat becomes tender and juicy. It’s considered one of the finest dishes in French cuisine, especially recommended for duck lovers. The service was excellent as well—attentive without being intrusive, with a well-paced dining experience. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, and if possible, sit inside, as the ambiance is better than the outdoor seating.
We went during SD Restaurant Week in January 2025 to try this place for the 1st time. We will definitely be back! The appetizers were both excellent. Gnocchi had a light somewhat airy texture instead of the common dense dough texture in gnocchi. Crab croquettes were super tasty and the arugula and jicama salad were great pairing. The beef entree wasn’t something I would like to order again simply because I wasn’t a fan of the strong wine flavor. The meat was amazingly soft though. The sauce that came with the duck confit dish was so good. I didn’t expect it to be so flavorful. It actually paired very well with the meat and was the highlight of the whole dish. The desserts were also very good.
Excellent dinner at Bleu Boheme! We ordered the Coquilles St Jacques (scallops and lobster risotto) and the Entrecôte de Porc (pork chop). We loved the flavors of both, although the scallops can be a little light so you may want to get an appetizer or dessert. The service was excellent and the food came out very quickly. Loved the music. We sat on the dog friendly patio. Recommend!
It was my wife’s birthday today. I want to thank everyone at Bleu Bohème for the kind and wonderful gesture today. We are being grateful. Thank you so much. We go here a few times a year on date nights or with friends. BB is nestled in the cute neighborhood of Kensington and surrounded by a bunch of other cool restaurants and shops. Bleu Bohème is a great experience. This is where the locals eat, the views are wonderful, and the restaurant of beautifully decorated, but in a unique old world way, not that cookie cutter contemporary look many are going for. Pros: • Great French Food • Nice variety but not overwhelming • Food comes out at a good pace • Friendly / Professional Staff • They treat you like family • Great ambiance indoor and outdoor • Date spot • Easy to reserve a table same day Cons: • None
We came here for their Thanksgiving brunch and it was absolutely perfect! They made sure to check on my allergies and were so attentive even though the restaurant was full. The bread was amazing, and the duck and salmon dishes as well. I really enjoyed Stella’s service to us. She was sweet, accommodating, and heartfelt.
I came here for a special dinner with a couple close friends and we enjoyed tons of delicious french food. The ambiance was nice in the restaurant, with candles used in place of lamps or lights. We started with a lovely charcuterie and cheese board, bread, and wine. Entrees were all delicious. The service was top notch and we had a great time. The seafood dishes were favorites among our group, especially the moules frites (mussels and fries). Great spot for a date night.
I had a great time at Bleu Bohème! The food and the atmosphere were fantastic. I ordered the Poulpe Rôti, and the octopus was cooked perfectly. It was the best part of my meal. The Tartare de Saumon was good too, but I thought it would be fresh salmon instead of smoked. The menu did mention smoked salmon, though. I also tried the Bourbon Vieilli. It's strong, so if you like strong drinks, it's a good choice. The restaurant has a nice and cozy feel, making it a great place to enjoy a meal. I'm looking forward to going back to Bleu Bohème and trying more dishes. Enjoy your meal!
Excellent food. Wonderful ambiance. Definitely recommend and will be going back.
Delicious. They change up their menu just barely every season to keep fresh but they stay nearly the same.the only thing that wasn’t perfect this most recent visit was there wasn’t any chicken dish as an option right now. They used to always have a chicken option and it was always amazing. If it’s possible, their portions got larger.
*Blue Bohème* on Adams Ave in San Diego is an absolute gem! The moment you step in, the ambiance whisks you away to a romantic Parisian hideaway. The culinary journey is pure magic—every dish is a symphony of flavors crafted with finesse. From the buttery escargot to the exquisite coq au vin, each bite transports you to the heart of France. The attentive staff curates an experience that's both sophisticated and warm, making every visit memorable. A must-visit for anyone seeking exceptional French cuisine in an enchanting setting! We went for our anniversary and they left a card for us and made my wife feel very special.
My husband decided to splurge and took us out for date-night to enjoy dinner at the French restaurant, Bleu Bohème. We both had the Confit de Canard, which was a duck leg confit served over a creamy goat cheese polenta with baby kale and leeks and a delicious olive relish. We enjoyed it with a Singapore Sling to drink and then ended it with some delicious dessert. I had the profiteroles and he had the chocolate mousse. Everything was delicious! The skin of the duck was crispy while the meat was tender and juicy. The mousse was light and airy, yet decadent at the same time. The profiteroles were delicious and the French vanilla ice cream in the middle was so creamy and flavorful. Everything was absolutely perfect! We definitely will be going back some day.
Went here for my birthday dinner and I was very impressed. Atmosphere So romantic. One of the most romantic restaurants I’ve been to in San Diego. The candlelight made my date with my girlfriend even more dazzling. Staff Exceptional. They wrote a card for my birthday and had a little scoop of mousse sent to the table, which was perfectly rich and chocolately. Food My girlfriend got the mussels with fries and I got the beef bourguignon. The mussels were exquisite and I felt like there were more mussels than typically served at restaurants. The fries were thin and crisp. The beef bourguignon was savory but not overly salty. The beef melts in your mouth. We got a half loaf of sourdough, which was very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And so warm. We also got a lobster crepe, which was the best food of the night. I recommend dipping the bread in the sauce. Finally, we got the “wine for a dime” deal. Recommend? Yes, if you’re looking for a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, this is a great choice. I’m sure we’ll go to other French restaurants in San Diego but I’m also sure that Blue Bohéme will be one of the best, if not the best.

This place never disappoints. The food quality is so high and each dish is outstanding. I had the chicken entree this past Friday and it was perhaps gthe best chicken breast I've ever had. The wine list is extensive and the signature drinks are always great. The atmosphere of this place sets it apart.
Favorite restaurant is san diego for the past 15 years. They are consistently delicious, authentically French, and always have one of the best staffs you can hope for. The chef often comes out to personally make sure everything is perfect.
We went here for our Anniversary and it was absolutely lovely. Amazing service, and the food was incredible. I am still dreaming of the flavors from the Boeuf Bourguignon - so delicious!

We stopped by for Happy Hour during our first visit and will definitely be back for more. Great ambiance, service, and food. It can be pricy, but definitely worth it. My favorite two Petit Plats were the Calamars Provençal and Gnocchi à la Parisienne. Least favorite, the Pâté et Terrine du Chef.
We got here right when they opened at 5pm, as that was our reservation time, and there was a line up to get in! Their happy hour is simple but has a wonderful selection of wine and cocktails. The decor is simple and reminds me of a classic, unassuming and delicious french restaurant. The charcuterie board had some of the most flavorful cuts I've had on this side of the Atlantic. I'd go back and try more food.
Reserved a table here for Valentine's dinner for two. The duck confit was a challenge to order as I cannot have onions with my allergy. I asked and the waitress mentioned she would find out if it had onions and let me know, but never came back. The duck confit ended up being a salty duck leg and mashed potatoes. Very salty. The service is what you would expect for Valentine's dinner anywhere.... spotty. I want to come back on a non holiday evening to give this place a real review, but can only give 4 stars for some of the misses and don't feel like giving a 3 star review is warranted.
Really good food! Would recommend doing the 3 course meal if you can! Would love to come back and try more!

Quaint little French restaurant right in the middle of San Diego. The French onion soup was fantastic! I tried the orange duck, but was not a big fan. To me the flavors didn't seem to mesh well a little too salty with the addition of olives. Other members of my party had the beef and it looked very tasty!
Excellent service. We went for their happy hour. The oyster mushroom ravioli was excellent, as well as their muscles. I had the escargot, I found it too salty. The duck pate and mousse. The mousse was a bit too runny for my liking.

Extremely subpar. I don’t understand why this restaurant has such high ratings. The best thing on the menu was bread and butter. Service extremely slow.
We don’t know what happened to their kitchen, but it’s a sad shadow of what it used to be. In the past, this was the best French food in San Diego. Now, it’s French imitation cooking, although the service is still good. What a shame. The curry pork chops were dessert-sweet, my duck confit was a mystery dish I would not have identified had I not known what I ordered. We took out-of-town friends there, promising a French meal, and it was borderline embarrassing.
We tried this restaurant for my birthday, and it was a bit disappointing. The escargot lacked flavor and richness. We also ordered the beef bourguignon and scallops, both were just ok and seemed to be missing something. The staff was very friendly and attentive, I did read the atmosphere, as only three stars, because it is kind of an old rundown place that could use some renovation. There are definitely better French restaurants in San Diego.

The food was really not worth the price. I ordered the mustard mussels and the flavor and body of the broth was really off. Super bitter because way too much mustard and the consistency was thin and lacked any other flavors or richness typical of mussels in broth. The mussels were on the edge of freshness and also massive and bulbous making them kind of grotesque. I did not eat but 3 or 4 of them and gave up. My friend had beef Bourguignon that was dry and stringy with undercooked vegetables and under seasoned. And the bread seemed a day old. Not sure what happened—used to be really good food. Wasted money.
Last time dining here. We've been coming since they opened up back in 2010. The flavors and service were great. Unfortunately a few other things are not what it used to be. The place that advertises clams etc ran out by 8:30 on a Saturday (2/15/25). Also, they ran out of croque garçon. My wife (French) ordered bœf bourguignon and the portion was way smaller than when I ordered it at her birthday a couple of years back. I mean, potatoes, carrots barely present, no bacon and only a few mushrooms. Hardly the hearty stew it should resemble. Appetizer portions, literally vs the meal. Same with the creme brulee the dish it got served with not deep at all. They charge for the delicious bread now. They didn't used to charge. I'll keep my great memories of this place. Time to find a new French restaurant in San Diego.
TLDR this rating does not reflect the quality of the food which is a 4 or 4.5. The issue primarily lies in service, which had a few bright spots, but left much to be desired. The host and back waiter were bright and communicative, but our server seemed to forget we were there for 45 minutes at a time. It adds insult to injury when the table next to you arrives 30 minutes after you but has more attentive service, and finishes at the same time despite having more diners and more courses. About the food: we enjoyed the salad maison and gnocci à la parissienne to start. Both were very nice dishes with clear demonstration of expertise from conception to execution. The gnocchi was well balanced, but light enough to share with more than one person without being too full. Pillowy with distribution of vegetables that were a perfect pair. Our main courses were the moule frites de champignons and the boeuf bourguignon. Again, execution was high-level and a nice balance of flavors. The sauce on the bourguignon was velvety & succulent, while the moule frites were the classic pairing with plump mussels and clean, sweet, but layered broth. Pain d'Epice was forgettable. Cake was too dense and not moist. Ice cream was almost better on its own. All in all, the food met or exceeded the mark, but the experience seems like it would have been elevated had we just served ourselves. When visiting our table each time, our server was clearly responding to what she thought we would say, rather than what we actually said. She barely stuck around long enough for us to do anything but make a quick request, and other than that she could not be located. In 2025, eating out is a luxury. Regardless of whether the food itself is good, full service restaurants should be expected to do more than just show up when convenient and drop off the food, especially for anything north of $100 per person.

Definitely not the review I was expecting to leave. We haven’t been back to this place for years, but we were very much looking forward to it as our previous experience was great. 1. The food was extremely salty. Not just one dish, but everything we ordered (sourdough bread-replaced by baguette, octopus, duck leg, steak frites). 2. The octopus came with undercooked chickpeas. They were supposed to be roasted chickpeas, but they were extremely hard. 3. The duck was overcooked, to the point that the meat was extremely dry. 4. The steak frites were nicely cooked, but like everything else, extremely salty. And the fries were McDonalds worthy with the amount of salt that was on them. 5. We ordered the sourdough bread and were later informed that they were out but could replace it with baguette. We agreed to this. The baguette was like a frozen baguette from Costco. Not bad, just nothing special and definitely not what you would expect at a French restaurant. When the bill came, they were trying to charge us for the sourdough. After challenging this, the charge was removed and they gave us the baguette on the house. 6. There was a server (not our main server) who kept trying to rush us out. She asked us on three separate occasions if we were done eating while we literally eating from the plates. In one of the occasions she went as far as trying to take my plate of the table and I had to tell her that I wasn’t done. 7. Through the Toast check out/paying process, you are asked about your experience. We marked that the service and the food were disappointing. When leaving, we were confronted by the host about this feedback.
