Opinions de Buga Korean BBQ San Diego
Had an incredible dining experience at Buga Korean BBQ in San Diego that left me absolutely thrilled and eager to return as soon as possible. The moment we sat down at our table, the waiter fired up the grill with expert precision and brought out an endless array of banchan—crisp kimchi, marinated bean sprouts, spicy cucumber salad, and fish cakes that were all so fresh and flavorful they set the perfect tone for the feast ahead, all complimentary and replenished without hesitation. We ordered the premium galbi, thinly sliced short ribs that sizzled to juicy perfection with a caramelized char, the thick samgyeopsal pork belly that melted in your mouth with every bite wrapped in fresh lettuce leaves alongside ssamjang and garlic slices, and the LA galbi beef that was tender, marinated in a sweet-savory soy glaze, and cooked just right to highlight its rich umami; everything was top-quality meat sourced impeccably, paired with steamed eggs that were fluffy and hot straight from the cast iron pot. The staff were phenomenal—attentive yet never intrusive, constantly checking the grill to ensure even cooking, recommending the perfect soju pairings like chilled fruit-infused bottles that cut through the richness beautifully, and even assisting with table-side grilling tips for first-timers, all while smiling and engaging in light conversation that made the lively atmosphere feel personal and welcoming. Sides like the cheesy corn and seafood pancake were showstoppers, with the pancake golden and crispy on the outside, loaded with fresh shrimp, squid, and scallions that burst with ocean flavors, and the restaurant itself buzzed with energy from happy groups yet remained spotlessly clean, with efficient ventilation keeping smoke minimal and the space modern with cozy banquettes. For dessert, the complimentary fruit platter was a refreshing finish, and the bill came in at an unbeatable value considering the all-you-can-eat quality and generous portions that left us stuffed and satisfied; Buga Korean BBQ isn't just a meal—it's a full-on sensory celebration of authentic Korean grilling done better than anywhere else in San Diego, deserving every one of five stars and my highest praise to anyone craving an unforgettable BBQ night out!
We celebrated 🥳 a birthday here. This was great for our big family. The food was great. They have a great variety of sides. Super 😋 yummy.
My daughter and I had a wonderful experience. Went on Valentine day and they were able to accommodate us within 20 minutes. Food was amazing. Staff was on point. Super nice. I recommend this place.
I didn't pay, so I can't comment on the value for the money, but the food was excellent and the service was very good. The waiters don't grill the meat for you unlike some other places, but very attentive and responsive. Fresh and well marinated meat!
I love Buga! I have been a few times and each visit has been worth it. We always opt for the all you can eat option B and it has some amazing choices. There are so many choices for meat, you get to cook it at your table. So much fun! The sides are really good, some of our favorites are the corn cheese, dumplings, Tteokbokki, and fish cakes. I always leave stuffed and very satisfied. The staff at Buga is always welcoming, there is plenty of parking, and if you don't want to do the all you can eat options there are plenty of other options.
I can't say enough good things about the food here. I can see why this place has been around so long. Did the all you can eat option and there was not one bad item. Everything was delicious. My favorites were the garlic pork belly, bulgogi, and beef fingers. The unlimited sides faves so far are the corn cheese, kimchi, garlic and sesame oil, kimchi rice, the BEST steamed egg I've ever had at an Asian restaurant, and sesame mochi balls. I tried the grape soju = yum! And a Korean beer called Krush = yum! Our server, Francisco, was AMAZING! Attentive, professional, so chill, great eye contact. Seriously can't remember the last time a server was this good. He was the cherry on the cake of my bday experience. The weather has been HOT so this restaurant was HOT. I got lucky and had my back to the walkway in front of the cooler haha. The only downside were the seats. Not quite comfortable. Especially if you're 6'4" like my son. Narrow seats. Parking could be difficult depending on the time you arrive. 4:30pm seemed to be a sweet spot on a Saturday. Highly recommend. We will be coming back. Only accepts reservations for 6 or more. Usual surcharge if you leave meat
Went for AYCE happy lunch set for $27pp and was not disappointed. The meat were of good quality and nicely marinated. Ordered assortment of beef and pork and everything came out quickly. I liked the bulgogi the best. The side dishes like spicy rice cake, steamed eggs, fish cake, mixed green salad were all good too! Staff were friendly and worked as efficiently as possible. Decor was simple but who cares? Hilight was the food.
Buga was one of the places I was one of the place I was most looking forward to when visiting San Diego. It’s so hard to find affordable KBBQ spots on the east coast so when I came across Buga and saw their prices, I thought it was too good to be true. When it comes to food, this place absolutely delivers. Some of the freshest brisket and pork belly I’ve ever had in KBBQ. We tried the beef belly, which not a lot of places offer around us, and we absolutely loved it. So deliciously fatty. Fat is flavor, y’all. I was so overwhelmed by all the banchan, or AYCE sides, options. You can never go wrong with kimchi, rice, tteokbokki, japchae and cheesy corn. These are must haves for me when it comes to KBBQ. You really cannot beat the price at this place. Our only critique is the service. It wasn’t really busy when we visited and at times it felt like we were forgotten about and for a place that isn’t so big, it was hard to track down our server. The food was good enough for me to come back despite the service being lackluster.
Parking is hard to find during rush hours and watch out for parking spots that are motel-only (it's right beside it). The decor is very plain, 90s brown tones and red carpeting with tile, and the tables are semi private. We always get the beef galbi combo with the tofu stew, and it's absolutely delicious. The stew especially, has some small bits of seafood in it that put it over the top for me. Sometimes the shrimp in the stew is old and the taste and texture is not pleasant All of the sides (refillable ) that come with the main meal are also delicious and well put together - there's some pickled, umami, plain, crunchy and sweet offerings so you'll be sure to find something you like. They do vary the sides so some days might be better than others. The service is prompt and courteous and we had no complaints in that department. This is one of our go-to's when we're craving Korean. Give it a try, and it might become yours too!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a local Korean BBQ spot, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The quality of the meat stood out right away. Every cut we tried was fresh, tender, and flavorful. What I appreciated most was that the meat wasn’t overly seasoned, allowing the natural flavors to shine without being too salty or greasy, which is often a concern with BBQ. Each bite was rich but clean, making the entire meal feel satisfying rather than heavy. The service was also top-notch. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our grill was always at the right temperature and offering helpful recommendations on how long to cook each type of meat. They were quick to refill side dishes and kept an eye on our drinks, making sure we had everything we needed for a great experience. Another plus was the variety of side dishes, which were fresh and complemented the meat perfectly without overpowering it. The kimchi, pickled radishes, and rice were the ideal accompaniments to balance the meal. Overall, this Korean BBQ offers not just great food but a memorable dining experience. It’s the perfect spot for a group meal or special occasion, and I’ll definitely be returning. If you’re looking for a place with excellent meat, attentive service, and a meal that won’t leave you feeling weighed down, this is a must-visit.
Promo ongoing on the weekdays 11am-3p, $14.99 bone rib soup. The serving is really big. We also tried the hot stonr bibimbap that is served with house soup (seaweed soup). The seaweed soup is so good. We frequently try different korean restaurants, and we really like theirs. Japchae also comes in big serving, with a generous amount of beef.
Highly recommend getting the group meal because the quality of the meat is leaps and bounds better than the AYCE. The bonchon needs some work as they were disappointing compared to previous owners. If you want to order some other items: the japchae is the best we have had in town and we have been trying for years to find someone to make it as much as our aunt makes it at home. The mandu/dumplings are crispy. The corn cheese didn’t have much mayo or cheese.
My favorite BBQ place in San Diego. The meat quality is good and high, I love beef brisket the most, and it’s soft and tender. I also love the steam egg and bean soup. price is ok for 2 people to order a combo. Environment is spacious and clean, and I never have to wait for a seat when I eating here. What’s more, when eating there, they don’t have too much lampblack. One thing about the waitress is that they help us to grill the meat, but they cook too fast. What happens is that our speed of eating can’t catch up their grilling speed.😹😹
We decided to try Buga based on the recommendation of a coworker and they got it right. The meat was definitely high quality and yes we did order the Prime cuts. Our server was very pleasant and engaging, what a wonderful dining experience. Another place to come back to again and again!
Buga Korean BBQ Restaurant has the All You Can Eat BBQ Menu and also the A La Carte Menu. We went for option B of the AYCE menu. This restaurant is very modern, stylish decor, clean and large dining table and plenty of elbow spaces between your table mates. They have excellent air quality control equipment to remove the smoke and grease from grilling meats. A big plus! Restaurant has variety of side dishes which we liked. A lot of Korean BBQ restaurants have reduced the number of side dishes nowadays. We loved the meat quality and the steamed eggs were very well prepared. Also, loved their warm, steamed rice wrappers. The only thing we didn’t like was the tofu stew/soup which was salty and watered down. We will be back to try the a la carte dishes.
Visited on New Year’s Day around 3 PM and the service completely ruined the experience. Our server clearly did not want to be there and provided some of the worst service we’ve had at a Korean BBQ restaurant. There is an automatic gratuity added, which is extremely frustrating given the level of service we received. This server did not earn a tip. I asked for sesame oil and was given something that tasted like plain cooking oil. My wife ordered a Coke and it never arrived. To make things worse, waiters kept switching between tables, so no one seemed accountable for our service. The food itself was mixed. The meats were just okay at best, and the beef intestine I ordered was honestly terrible and borderline inedible. Overall, this place might be tolerable if service improves, but being forced to pay gratuity for poor service leaves a bad impression. We left disappointed and would not rush back.
Very Unprofessional First Impression When we arrived, the waiter greeted us in a friendly way at first. However, after we sat down, he immediately started explaining that if we ordered “too much,” we would have to pay for it. This was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. The way it was presented made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, as if we were already being warned instead of being treated like guests. Because of this, we decided to leave without ordering anything. It left a very bad first impression. I hope this review helps others, because this is not the way customers should be welcomed or introduced to a restaurant. An experience like this makes you want to leave immediately.
