Tonight was truly an exceptional, five-star experience, thanks in large part to our wonderful server Kenzie. I made reservations for myself & my dad, & we were seated promptly at the chef’s counter, with a view of the chefs preparing the food, shucking oysters, wood-firing bone marrow, et cetera. Kenzie greeted us, & from the time she approached us to the time we left, she was stellar: attentive, funny, gracious, patient, informative, & engaging. We started with the crudo & sourdough, before having the hanger steak & guinea fowl, & finished off with the chocolate baked mousse for dessert. Chef Deckman was also kind & took a few minutes to talk to us about the guinea fowl (which was delicious). While the food, the seating, & the music (perfect volume for a restaurant of this size) all would have been lovely on their own, Kenzie’s service truly felt world-class, & made our experience what it was (which is why we stayed for two & a half hours, thoroughly enjoying ourselves!). What a wonderful evening.
I’ve dined at many of the top spots in San Diego, but Deckman’s North (the rebranded 31ThirtyOne) is operating on a different level. Chef Drew Deckman has brought the fire and soul of Baja to North Park, and the results are spectacular. If you appreciate ingredients that tell a story, this is your place. The Starters: A Masterclass in Seafood We kicked things off with the Yellowtail appetizer, and it was the perfect opening note—insanely fresh, buttery, and bright. But the real conversation-starter was the Mussel Tostada. It’s a brilliant play on textures; the mussels are plump and briny, perched on a perfectly crisp shell that shatters just right. It’s easily one of the most creative bites in the city right now. The Mains: From the Sea to the Fire The Swordfish was a revelation. Often, swordfish can be hit-or-miss, but here it was succulent and meaty, benefiting from that signature wood-fired kiss that Deckman is famous for. It was seasoned to let the natural sweetness of the fish shine through. However, if you are a meat lover, you cannot leave without ordering the Ribeye. Ours was a 14-day dry-aged cut that arrived with a crust so perfectly charred it was almost primal. It came served with a silky potato mousseline that felt like velvet on the tongue. It’s the kind of 'steak and potatoes' meal you’ll be thinking about for weeks. Why It Works Beyond the food, the three-level space is gorgeous. Whether you're having a cocktail on the rooftop or watching the action at the open kitchen downstairs, the energy is electric. Plus, knowing that a portion of the bill supports regenerative farming through Zero Foodprint makes the indulgence feel even better. Final Thought: This isn't just a meal; it's an experience. Impeccable service, a world-class wine list from Valle de Guadalupe, and food that respects the land. Don't skip the Ribeye!
3131 Restaurant absolutely deserves all 5 stars. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was classy yet relaxed — the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. The happy hour here is hands-down the best in San Diego! The drinks were perfectly crafted, and the appetizers were not only delicious but beautifully presented. Special shoutout to Grant, the bartender, who was phenomenal! He made amazing cocktails, had great recommendations, and his friendly personality really made the whole experience even better. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. Every detail, from the ambiance to the flavors, showed how much care they put into their guest experience. If you’re looking for amazing food, great value, and a stylish spot to enjoy happy hour — 3131 is the place to be. Can’t wait to come back again soon!
Long overdue review, I really want to acknowledge the staff that led the experience I had with my partner though. We came in for Happy Hour and had the pleasure of meeting Molly. This restaurant was a long anticipated one and I read reviews before hand which made me a little confused at first. To the people who speak of price point, I believe they greatly overlook the concept and agenda of this team. Small proveyer & local sourcing, driving small business economic sustainability, participating in zero carbon efforts requires a great level of intentionality and integrity. With that being said, from the first Pacific Oyster to the last local stone fruit we tasted every bite was light, clean, thoughtful. Perfect portion sizes. Molly was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive to every guest, not just us which speaks to experience when you consider how full the house was. Even with a full house the sound levels were comfortable, we felt we had privacy even with close proximity. Her support team was really pleasant as well and they all helped ensure the timing of our courses, reset tables, cleared glasses all were seamless, no one missed a beat. Every course that hit the table was gorgeous, not a wilted flower or drop of infused oil or spec of salt of place. It was a beautiful day, one of the best meals I've had since relocating to San Diego. We left buzzing, we actually lost track of time and smiling from ear to ear. I 100% recommend anyone visit, and for those with negative experiences consider revisiting with a clean slate. We look forward to our next meal!
I have previously been to their Valle location which I enjoyed. I went to the North Park location on Valentine’s Day. The service was exceptional. Drinks menu was pretty unique to its Mexican heritage. Food was solid as well. Would recommend.
One of the best meals I’ve had, could not recommend it enough. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the staff was lovely, and of course the food was phenomenal. Will absolutely be back, and seeking out Chef Drew’s other restaurants.
Absolutely recommended! Every dish, drinks, location, welcoming staff. 10/10 without a doubt one of the best culinary experiences. If you are looking for unique cuisine, sustainable, farm to table, this is it! Thank you Deckman! 🫶🏼
Top 20 lifetime meal. Did HH on the rooftop first. We did oysters and tartar. Molly and Grant, the bartenders were fun and attentive. We then moved to the chef's counter, and things went next level. Between Jenny, the Sommelier, and Chef Drew Deckman, the food and wine were some of the best in my life.
My husband and I have been fortunate to enjoy Deckman’s restaurant in Valle de Guadalupe where the setting looks like you could be in Tuscany and the food and service is exceptional. I was treated for my birthday to his new restaurant here in SD. I was expecting for the food to be enjoyable but it was amazing. It was a pleasant surprise to taste smokiness in some of his dishes since his restaurant in Valle is mostly cooked outside on the grill. The restaurant is beautiful… tastefully decorated…. had a similar vibe to restaurants in Barcelona. Thank you Mr. Deckman for opening up a place here in San Diego. May you continue to have great success. Enjoyed my birthday dinner. Gracias
An Unforgettable Dining Experience – So Good We Came Back the Next Day We stumbled upon this gem and were so blown away that we came back the very next night. From start to finish, everything about this place is next level. First off, the service is the top notch. None of that forced friendliness you sometimes get—everyone we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. Special shoutouts to Kenzie and Tyler on our first night, and Owen and Molly on night two. Each one brought their own personality to the table (literally), and their attention to detail—especially around allergies—was impeccable. It’s rare to feel that taken care of without having to explain yourself twice. The cocktails? Unreal. The Snap Dragon and Fairy Duster were both delicious. But the star surprise of the evening was the orange olive oil paired with raw oysters—a combination that sounds simple but is pure magic (sorry no pics, I eat before the camera 😂). Scallops and tuna crudo were additional highlights. If you can, make it to their rooftop happy hour-and-a-half—it’s worth planning your evening around. Amazing views, great energy, and perfect small bites to kick things off. Speaking of food, the complimentary small appetizer that come out before your starters were different each night and just as delicious. Big kudos to the kitchen for that extra touch. This place hits that rare sweet spot: elevated without being pretentious, polished without losing personality. Already counting down the days until we can come back to San Diego and visit again.
Spectacular dinner at 31, out of this world. We started on the rooftop patio with wonderful tiling and marble and had the $1 oysters and some great cocktails and mocktails. We then moved to the beautiful dining area with a chef counter where you can see the chefs cooking. We ordered the set menu and had the delicious anchovies, sourdough bread, yellowtail crudo, winter harvest, Hokkaido scallop, pumpkin triangolli, striped bass, flatiron steak, strawberry dessert, carrot cake, and chocolate baked mousse. Incredible. The desserts were fantastic way to end the meal. The service was great, very knowledgeable on the sourcing, friendly, and on top of things. Highly recommend!
The staff is amazing. Our server was personable, knowledgeable, and clearly cared about what she was doing. I recommend getting the wine pairing with your meal. It elevated the whole experience. Especially because our server was obviously as into the wine as I was. The space is beautiful. They have done a wonderful renovation. The light walls and natural wood highlights matched the overall vibe of the food that they are preparing here. We loved watching all of the action in the open kitchen too. The food was as excellent as we had hoped it would be. The amuse bouche was a lightly grilled oyster with some tasty toppings. It was packed with umami flavors. I highly recommend sharing two of the first course plates, the tuna and the tomatoes. Both were out of this world. The plating for the tomatoes was beautiful. Comparably, the tuna didn't look as special, but the flavors blew us away. For the second course I recommend the mussels plate. It was super tasty. The only let down of the evening was the lobster dish. It was fine, but for an additional $20 for this dish we both agreed it wasn't worth it when the mussels dish was better anyway. Next we had the steak dish and the squab. Both were amazing. It was my first time eating a pigeon, but won't be the last. Finally, dessert was fantastic. If you are a chocolate lover then the chocolate dish is the way to go. It paired beautifully with the port. Even if you don't get the full wine pairing, I would recommend ordering the port with the chocolate. This place is a great addition to North Park!
Our group got the private upstairs dining room. I also noticed a rooftop bar that we will have to check it out the next time we are here. The food was amazing and the taste was uniquely crafted. The oysters & uni were a great way to start. So many amazing dishes I highly recommend
Amazing food. I personally loved the pace the food came out. I feel like they gave you time to enjoy everything, and it never felt rushed. One note is, I wish they had some organic wines on their wine list but other than that will definitely be back

Fantastic experience at Drew Deckman’s new amazing restaurant. Was blow away by the wine pairings and the menu. Flavours I never experienced before my journey here. I can’t wait to return next time I’m back in San Diego. The experience is truly first class from the moment you walk in.

Excellent! Was highly anticipating this new restaurant from Chef Deckman and boy it did not disappoint! The renovation of the prior Hoxton Manor restaurant is very nice. More open and upscale. The rooftop bar looks great. A nice place for cocktails and oysters. The service was seamlesss. Our server Darius was excellent. Answered all questions we had about the menu and gave good suggestions. The food.....divine! 4 course tasting menu. $125 pp. It started with a yellowtail ceviche amuse bouche which was super good and delicate. Nice way to start! 1st course I had the tomato dish with uni and lemon balm. Wow. Excellent palate pleaser. My husband had the mushroom course and loved it. 2nd course I had the Whale cove mussels with a goat cheese stuffed pasta and uni nage,...divine. hubby had the Baja abalone which he liked though the soup that accompanied it was just ok (called low tide soup- he thought a bit sour). 3rd course the squab with chanterelles and striped bass with eggplant...excellent! 4th course we both had the chocolate mousse. Delightful way to end the meal. I have read comments that some think the courses are not large enough. I was full. Husband was not quite. I think getting some oysters or other app before would solve that issue. Wine list was a bit limited. Might be nice to expand the white wine offerings. Don't understand why the $2.50 charge for basically tap water.....I get no single use bottles, but still when you are paying so much for dining and drinks.... Other than that a great addition to our North Park dining scene.
Great food, great friendly service. Food is locally sourced prepared in approachable yet creative ways. The food is smaller portions but will thought out and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
The best oysters I’ve ever had! The cocktails were also fabulous and the interior is stunning. Can’t wait to come back.
Michael was the best server I’ve had in a while. Really loves what he does and takes care of you. His specialty drink is the double fister (revolver and old fashion together)
This restaurant is a gem and was so needed in the North Park neighborhood. Every bite has so many different flavor notes and the meal is superb from the first bite to the last. The whale cove mussels are a must order. The attentiveness of the serving team is wonderful and the ambiance is inviting and warm. I've already been twice and can't wait to go back.
The food was exceptional. The flavors were so elegant and beautifully constructed. Our service from Jenny who orchestrated our wine pairings perfectly, was absolutely magical. We left feeling like we had been so taken care of and cannot wait to bring two of our friends to dine here with us. Well done Chef, Jenny and entire team!
Each course was amazing! The food was fresh and bright. It was easy to taste how well-sourced and high-quality the ingredients were. The atmosphere was perfect and staff extremely nice and helpful. I’m also pescatarian so they substituted the oxtail on the swordfish for a really flavorful polenta— an extra step where most restaurants would just remove the oxtail and serve it without any substitutes. The price was as expected for such a nice dining experience.
I did the Chef's Counter dinner and it was superlative! I would give it easily 6-stars if I could. Definitely one of the best dining experiences I've had and absolutely now my favorite place in San Diego!
Great new restaurant in North Park. Open kitchen that you can see they cook and there are seats at the counter. Mainly a prix fixe 4 course menu but you can a la carte or add dishes too . Food is great especially the mindful mushroom and the squad. Tomatoes were amazing. Service is good but can improve a bit. Highly recommended.
Rooftop + Happy Hour is all I need to know. The happy hour deals were great and the quality was nothing short of excellent. Cocktails on a rooftop always taste better.
Wonderful Location super professional Service. The Atmosphere and Design are amazing. I felt like I am in Vacation. Food was delicious. Definitely will be back . Thx Guys you made my Day.
Went for the first time for dinner. We opted to do the four course prefix menu. I did. Food and service were outstanding. For the price I got what we expected and more. Highlight of our meal was when we got to dessert.
This was our second visit. Our first experience was opening week and systems we a bit rough however the meal was spectacular. This visit was to see the rooftop bar. Service was perfect., great vibe. This might be the hippest spot in the neighborhood. Very kool. Had oysters and champagne. AWSOME!!
Great spot! The food was a perfect mix of flavors—fresh, tasty, and well-balanced. Service was top-notch: friendly, quick, and attentive. Highly recommend!
Came for happy hour oysters, stayed for a meal and a cocktail. Thank you, that was so delicious!
I am a big Drew fan. I love that this restaurant is pulling out all sorts of different approaches to see how they fit into North Park. So many places come and go in this neighborhood without even trying to get creative. Deckmans in VDG is a staple restaurant in my life and it’s amazing to be able to partake in his new adventure close to home. Don’t come here thinking you’re going out in Valle de Guadalupe. This is a different spot with a different vibe. I’ll keep coming back just to see what they come up with next… and I choose to support the restaurants that do it right.
Enchanting! ✨ Deckman has done it again with his sheer culinary creativity and commitment to quality. Paulina is a welcoming presence at the restaurant, whose entrance is hidden away on the unsuspecting North Park street. Little elements throughout continued to surprise and delight us - and all lived up to his legendary traditions from his restaurant down México way. Dream cuisine, and a very warm ambiance.
Proud to say we've been part of Deckman's journey throughout the years. We have seen their transformation and all the effort they have put into it, so we were very excited about 31THIRTYONE opening in San Diego. It goes without saying how incredible the food, the service, and the place itself are; Please visit this place because it is amazing!
I had heard great things about 3131. They were all true. Loved the rooftop happy hour.
31ThirtyOne by Drew Deckman is more than just a high-end dining spot—it’s a thoughtful journey into what it means to eat sustainably while also indulging in luxurious cuisine. Imagine a dining experience where the distance between farm and fork is almost nonexistent. Every dish carries with it a story, often a local one, with ingredients coming from Deckman’s own farm just outside the city or from carefully selected purveyors within San Diego County. From a purely gustatory perspective, expect to encounter bold flavors, yet nothing is overly complicated—each dish presents a simple harmony between fresh ingredients and precise execution. The environment at 31ThirtyOne is intimate, with its warm, earthy design pulling you into a space that feels both exclusive and down-to-earth. The open kitchen is a statement of transparency, letting diners peek into the careful choreography of Deckman’s culinary team as they plate up each course. Where the restaurant truly stands apart is in its approach to sustainability. It’s not just a buzzword here—sustainability is part of the DNA of 31ThirtyOne. Not only does Deckman source everything locally, but the restaurant has a firm commitment to reducing waste, recycling, and composting wherever possible. Add to that the partnerships with environmental initiatives like Zero Foodprint, and you feel as if your meal contributes to something greater than just a great evening out. Unlike many high-concept restaurants, 31ThirtyOne doesn’t just rely on technique or creativity; it leans heavily on the land, sea, and community that supply its ingredients. This relationship between food and environment is tangible in every bite. If you’re seeking a dining experience that isn’t just about the food but also about the story behind it, 31ThirtyOne delivers a compelling narrative with every course. The result is a meal that feels connected—to nature, to the local community, and to a larger vision of what the future of dining could be. Thank you for my best birthday celebration!
Honestly, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I was a little nervous after reading some reviews. You need to go here knowing you’re spending money for quality food and not try to get 1 dish to fill you. We did the 4 course chef option and we added the bone marrow on top of it. By the time the desert came we were beyond full and 100% we could have done without the additional order and still have been full. It was a more casual environment than I expected but I didn’t mind it. The staff was great, food was incredible, and we enjoyed ourselves very much.
We ate at the rooftop bar and it was a great experience all around. Also had a cocktail made with fennel that was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had, hands down
This place is PERFECT. The food is incredible (with top notch sourcing), the atmosphere is very cool (the rooftop in particular), the staff is lovely and excellent (Kenzie and Molly were the best). I’ll be back every time I’m in town!
10/10 recommend stopping by for happy hour! The restaurant is beautiful, and the rooftop bar adds such a great vibe. Be sure to come early — it fills up fast! The oysters were fresh and delicious, the drinks were excellent, and the service was truly the highlight. Huge shoutout to Molly and Grant for being so kind and accommodating. We had an amazing time due to those two!
Came here on a date night and was thoroughly impressed. We got lucky and got a rooftop spot for happy hour. Molly our server was incredible! She was kind, knowledgable, intuitive to our needs and very sweet. We each got a dozen oysters, a sourdough appetizer and then a squid ink pasta dish to share. It was the first night they debuted that dish, we hope it becomes a staple to their menu because it was 10/10. The food, service and ambiance made for a perfect date night and we can't wait to come back!
Such a special dinner. The food and attention to detail is spectacular! Friendly staff and we even got to meet Deckman. We will definitely be back!
Had a great date night tonight with my wife we had the oysters to start and they really set the tone for the whole meal. String recommendation from the girl sitting next to us . We followed it with squid ink pasta and bone marrow and I would recommend both . The atmosphere was great and service was some of the best I’ve had in San Diego I would recommend it
I’ve been a fan of Chef Deckman for years, having visited his restaurants in Valle de Guadalupe, so I was really excited to try 31 Thirty One in San Diego—and it did not disappoint. The whole experience felt intimate and genuine, like being welcomed into someone’s home. We had the scallops, striped bass, and hanger steak—each one was incredible in its own way, full of flavor and beautifully executed. It’s rare to find a place where the food, service, and atmosphere all come together so seamlessly. This was more than just a dinner—it was an experience I’ll remember.
Rooftop happy hour at 5. Dozen oysters for 18. Very good oysters for the price. Good vibes.
Was extremely excited to try the new restaurant last night. Been to both his restaurants in Mexico and let me tell you as an Argentine, It’s one of the only steaks I will ever order in North America. Absolutely love the ingredients and farm to table methods of providing the best ingredients and freshest vegetables. Really nice restaurant. Great service, flavors, fantastic food can’t wait for the rooftop to be open. And definitely will be back. Got a sneak peek at the new rooftop that will be opening soon and the front dining room is great. My only disappointment was I didn’t get to thank Deckman personally in passing for an amazing night and meal while viewing the roof. Thanks again!
We had a wonderful dinner at 31thirtyone Food: Fantastic. We loved every dish. Left feeling like we had a really special dinner, and I don’t have anything but good things to say about the food. Service: Amazing. Our server was super attentive. Felt that everyone at the restaurant was working really hard to have good service and it showed. Wine pairing: we ordered two separate dishes for each course to try more of the menu. To our surprise, the pairing was tailored to each dish. That made the pairings way more special, and they were wonderful pairings. Generous pours as well.
Excellent food and service! We had the best oysters and bone marrows. Special thanks to our wonderful server, Molly, for making our experience more memorable and shout out to Grant for the best drinks! Highly recommend this place!
The dinner was fantastic. The food tasted amazing. The ambiance was wonderful. Highly recommend this restaurant.
The service was exceptional and the food was on par. The wine pairings genuinely elevated the culinary experience by balancing and accentuating the flavor profiles in uniques ways. The first of hopefully many prominent San Diego must visits restaurants
Came in to celebrate our 10 yr anniversary after a recommendation from a friend. Everything was great! The staff was welcoming and attentive. We went with A La Carte options and had a steak that moved the bar on what a great steak is! Thanks to Chef and his staff for a great evening!
A breath of fresh air in North Park. A restaurant that is truly working towards the concept of sustainability in every aspect possible. Food, service and ambiance all in harmony, plus a rooftop bar, unique in the area! The experience is exceptional since the first greeting all to the very end. Everyone is very kind and welcoming. The dishes are spectacularly presented. I love to see Valle de Guadalupe wine in their menu, I have struggled to get those labels northside. The decoration is warm and artistic, my favorite part is being able to see the open kitchen. I am excited to taste more of the menu as the season transitions. It changes regularly due to dock catch and farmers pick of the day! I hope to bring more family and friends over to try this, so I will definitely be back!
We had such an amazing meal at Thirty One 31! The staff and service were top-notch, and Chef Drew came by after the rush, he’s an incredible chef and also such a humble, down-to-earth guy. The food was incredibly fresh and all in season, which was reflected in every dish! We started a number of starters , oysters, tuna with watermelon, tomatoes & mackerel, and the scallops. They were all excellent ! For mains, we enjoyed the risotto & the black cod was perfectly cooked with great flavor, and the desserts were the perfect finish.❤️ Molly, the bar manager, gave us fantastic cocktail recommendations, and mixes amazing drinks! Everything about the evening was thoughtful & delicious. We’ll definitely be back!
We were first-time visitors to a Chef Deckman restaurant and had such a great time!! The food was amazing, stunning even. We shared different options for each course so we could try as much as possible. Our favorites were the quail, tomatoes/urchin, and abalone low tide soup. The Piedro de Sol Grenache Blanc from Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico, was a great accompaniment for both our appetizers and our four-course meal. We were greeted with the smiling faces of the host staff upon entering. The service both at the front bar and our table was top notch! I can't recall his name, but our server was a young man who recently was back after 10 years in Puerto Vallarta. He was amazing and answered all our questions. What a special experience. Here's what our evening's fixed price menu included. My friend and I shared everything so we tasted as much as we could... A complementary course: Aged ribeye in a crab emulsion with cucumber and black sesame seeds. Appetizers: Black Hat Sourdough Boule with 3131 pickles and pickled vegetables, speck, and goat butter. House cured anchovies with fennel potato relish and pain au levain (aka sourdough toast). First course (option 1): Connelly Farms tomatoes and Halmay sea urchin with opal basil. Pete Halmay is a San Diego-based diver who sourced the urchin. The Chef prides himself on sourcing only the best ingredients, and this sea urchin certainly qualifies. First course (option 2): Rock cod with ogo seaweed, garden water, bergamot orange (yes, it's green) and kaluga (sturgeon native to Japan) caviar. Second course (option 1): Whale Cove mussels, lemon chèvre fagottini (filled pasta with lemon goat cheese), uni nage (sea urchin broth), and chicken skin. Second course (option 2): Farm-raised Baja abalone in the Chef's "low tide soup" (e.g., seaweed, et. al.) with chapuline (deep fried grasshopper) oil. Third course (option 1): Pacifico striped bass, eggplant, San Diego calamares (squid) and saffron. Third course (option 2): Wolfe Ranch quail with chanterelles and turnips. (Wolfe Ranche provides quail to only three restaurants: 31THIRTYONE, The French Laundry in Yountville, and one other restaurant.) This was my personal favorite of the evening. Surprise pre-dessert course: Tangerine sorbet and melon ice. (Another favorite!) Fourth course (option 1): Chocolate baked mousse with toffee, bay leaf, and honey caramel salted ice cream Fourth course (option 2): Peaches with mousseline, cardamom, and goat cheese ice cream. This was another favorite. Every flavor came together perfectly, and the cadamom...(mwah!) Post-dessert surprise course: Salted chocolate bownie and passionfruit gummy. Thank you, Chef Deckman, and the entire staff for a truly memorable experience. We will be back for more!
Fantastic experience at Drew Deckman’s new amazing restaurant. Was blow away by the wine pairings and the menu. Flavours I never experienced before my journey here. I can’t wait to return next time I’m back in San Diego. The experience is truly first class from the moment you walk in.
What a delightful experience at 3131. We were fortunate to get a reservation on opening night, and loved it. There were many great dishes, but the Abalone Low Tide Soup was a unique standout FULL of flavor. The SDC Harvest salad was also an unexpected and adventurous way to enjoy vegetables. Don’t overlook the oysters, you’ll love the special drop of citrus. If you like wine with dinner try the Clos Benoit, it doesn’t disappoint. The staff was lovely but the service needs a little polishing, as expected for a first night. Can’t wait to come back with friends!
If you haven’t experienced Deckman’s here in North Park or in the beautiful Guadeloupe Valle wine region, south of the border, you really don’t know what you have right here in your backyard. Chef and his team give a five star experience that you would easily find in New York or Chicago. Heavenly food and gorgeous atmosphere. Fine dining but relaxed, as we love to be in San Diego.
Dining at 31THIRTYONE BY DECKMANS is exceptional from start to finish. The service is impeccable, with a team that goes above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience. The atmosphere is stunning, with a blend of elegance and warmth that makes you want to stay longer. Each dish is crafted with incredible skill and flavor. It’s a perfect spot for a memorable night out in San Diego. I’ll definitely be back. Congratulations to Drew, Sam and all 31THIRTYONE team.
My husband and I had a fantastic experience going out to dinner at 3131; the food, drinks, and atmosphere are all reasons alone to come here, but... our night was exceptional in huge part thanks to Mollie behind the bar. First and most obvious: she is incredibly skilled at her craft and made some of the best cocktails I've ever had. But also, she had great recommendations from the food menu and wine list, and her kind, warm, genuine personality makes you feel like an old friend. Her crazy talent and contagious energy made our night! Thanks Mollie, we'll be back to see you soon!!
This place didn't catch my eye until they changed their name to Deckman's because I'm familiar with the VDG location. Bummed it took so long to go because it was incredible! We got the oysters, beets, bread and ham, steak, and figs for dessert. Every dish was on point. Thank you! We'll be back.
We had a great dinner at Deckmans. Food was creative and tasty, cocktails were spot on and service was special. Great attention to the details. Recommended!
We had an unforgettable experience! It was all thanks to the unbeatable service, exceptional cocktails, and one of the best oyster happy hours in town. From the moment we sat down, Molly and Grant made us feel like VIPs—attentive, genuine, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the menu and drink pairings. The oysters were fresh, briny perfection—served ice-cold with just the right accompaniments. Whether you're an oyster connoisseur or just curious, their happy hour is a must-try. Every tray came out fast and flawlessly presented, and Molly’s enthusiasm about the different varieties made the experience even more enjoyable. Then there were the cocktails. Grant is a wizard behind the bar—each drink was a masterclass in balance and creativity. The flavors were bold but smooth, and he was more than happy to craft recommendations based on our preferences. It felt like each glass was tailored just for us. Service like this is rare. Molly and Grant didn’t just serve—they elevated the entire night. They brought warmth, personality, and professionalism that made 31Thirty stand out in a sea of forgettable spots. Bottom line: This spot is a gem, and with Molly and Grant at the helm, it's nothing short of stellar. We’ll definitely be back—and bringing friends.
Amazing culinary experience. We loved the tong and clams, the fowl and the olive cake. The pasta with chanterelle were also very good. The crudo was ok but not outstanding like the rest of the dishes. Nice service. I would definitively recommend for a date night or special occasion.
Food, service, atmosphere were outstanding. First time to enjoy this restaurant and we will be back. We had the hanger steak and swordfish. Both were cooked perfectly. Cocktails were great. We sat on the upper patio area and it was quiet with heaters on a beautiful evening. Staff were very attentive.
I had drinks and oysters on the rooftop followed by bbq dinner at the chef’s counter. It was an absolute fantastic experience. The staff was extremely accommodating, food was elevated but comforting and being able to witness the chefs do magic just took this over the top. Will definitely be back
Right when you walk in, you are blown away with the beautiful atmosphere and decor, this place is stunning. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. And omg the drinks! The thought of that goes into them, the ingredients, the flavor is just an explosion in your mouth. Ingredients that you never thought would go into a drink. Danielle is the genius behind it and we had the pleasure of meeting her. She told us a quick story of how she came up with such delicious drinks. Definitely going back! Please support this local business! You won’t regret it! Y se habla español también!!
It's a luxury to have such an amazing restaurant on the doorstep here in North Park. Creative menu, executed impeccably, by a passionate kitchen team, overseen by a chef-owner who sources all of his ingredients ethically. What more could you ask for? The service is attentive, friendly, professional and knowledgable and thankfully without any hint of pretension. The intimate dining room is warm and welcoming - can't wait to go back!

I had dinner at 31THIRTYONE by Deckman's on a Saturday at 7:30 PM. We had reservations and were seated immediately towards the back of the restaurant (it was quite chilly back there). With the four course prix fix menu, I chose the following dishes: winter harvest woodfired vegetables, Hokkaido scallop with coco beans and black trumpet mushrooms, flat iron steak with sunchoke, farro, and spring garlic, and carrot cake with rye mousseline, and cardamom tuile. All of the food was beautifully presented and delicious. We were also given an amuse-bouche and pre-dessert. I really enjoyed the pre-dessert, which was a keifer ice cream with apple and persimmon. However, the portions were quite small. My scallop dish literally had one scallop. My main issue with meal was the length. We were seated very promptly at 7:30 pm and we didn't leave until a little after 10 pm. 2.5 hours was just a too long for me and I felt like we were waiting a lot between ordering and receiving each course. The staff was also friendly but seemed uninformed about the menu. They couldn't answer all my questions about the menu items and when they brought the food, they didn't remember everything in the dish. Parking is typical of North Park - no dedicated lot so you need to find street parking or a paid lot. I enjoyed the meal, but I don't know if I need to go back considering the cost ($110 pre tax and tip), small portions, and length of meal.
Nice spot. Love the small rooftop. Did the 4 course pre fix dinner with the addition of oysters and rib-eye steak. Food was taste but not Michelin-delicious. Didn't love our server either…She was fake-friendly. Not your typical private dining experience.
Good presentation, big eye tuna was good, mussel was great as the steak too very tasty. The wine pairing didn’t do much for me, probably better if I had chosen my preferred wine. Service was great!
The food and services was spectacular! The only thing I would say is that the wine menu needs work. Other than that everything we ordered was delicious. The Fowel was muy favorite!
Update: Returned to celebrate a few birthdays (didn’t find out location until just before). New family style tasting menu is much better. Didn’t leave hungry this time. Still very expensive and food quality was good but not for the price. Fish was overcooked. Pasta was undercooked. Beef tartare was only standout. Probably won’t intentionally return. I really wanted to like this restaurant. I’ve always wanted to go down to the Guadalupe Valley to try his restaurant and haven’t made it. The food was generally good and interesting but the portions were absurdly small. I’ve never left a restaurant so hungry and for the price it was unacceptable. In case reservation demand starts to drop off I would suggest reducing front of house staffing, increasing portions and reducing prices.

Wow - for a place that prides itself on ‘excellence’, 1) how do you have ONE menu for all patrons at the entire bar, 2) How do you run out of Pinot half way through my glass and tell me you’ll only charge me ‘HALF’ the price and 3) how are you constantly promoting ‘happy hour’ to me when I clearly don’t care about that? Quite surprising on multiple levels. Get your basic social intelligence in order - I live a block away and you have no clue how to cater to my business which would be a weekly thing for you if you paid a bit of attention. Nice and unfortunate in the social awareness level of hired staff!!! Do better…please.
It's ok. We were all kinda disappointed in the place. For the price, the food should be better. A server took a half drank cocktail without asking if I was finished. The muscle that everyone races about on here was literally one muscle and wasn't that great. Overall disappointing compared to Deckman's other places.
I am saddened to write that 31THIRTYONE really disappointed--we were so excited for this restaurant to open here in SD. We have eaten at a number of Deckman restaurants and they are ususally pretty great. The good: the food (e.g. the mushroom starter) had some real bright spots and the decor, though a bit minimal, is calm and inviting. Now, the bad: 1) the food is very expensive for what it is and at every turn one felt that the restaurant was watching every single penny--portion size control beyond any comfort level. A $145 price fix in SD North Park should mean at least five courses or at least one of four courses that is bigger than a smallish appetizer anywhere else. We were with friends who are very light eaters and even they pointed out how little food we got. 2) the wine pairing was similarly miserly. $65 for three 2 ounce pours and a shot-glass sized cocktail with desert. We could not have consumed more than about a glass and a half of wine for our $65--and this was not exactly first growth bourdeauxs....... 3) the service was so not great. The server was joyless and added to the soviet-style reserve around the portions and wine pourings (though I will give her an A for being able to never once over-pour the 2 ounce limit). One of us was celebrating a birthday and she actually said, "you have to celebrate these things because life is short." Fortunately, the wine pairing had left me completely sober so this registered as odd as opposed to depressing. 4) more service--the staff is just not well trained yet. One server brought a dessert amuse bouche, dropped in front of us and left without a word. Not sure what it was but it was pretty good. Anyway, if you are not looking for festive but instead want something very restrained, overpriced, and generally unfun, 31THIRTYONE is definitely your place. Hopefully, it will improve in time, and once they really get going you won't feel the oppressive spirit of nervous investors making sure they get their margin on every single diner.
We recently visited 31THIRTYONE BY DECKMAN'S for my husband’s birthday, having had an incredible experience at Deckman’s in Baja. Unfortunately, this restaurant did not meet the same expectations, especially given the significantly higher price point. While the service was excellent and attentive, and there wasn’t anything "wrong" with the food or drinks, it just didn't have the wow factor you expect at this price. Some of the flavors felt a bit bland, and overall, the dishes were far from mind-blowing. Having experienced Deckman’s in Baja, which offers an extraordinary dining experience at a fraction of the cost, we were hoping for a similar culinary journey here—but it just didn’t deliver. The venue itself felt quite bland and uninspiring, which didn’t add to the atmosphere or enhance the dining experience. All in all, while the service was a highlight, I don’t feel the quality of the food or ambiance justifies the price tag. I wouldn’t return or recommend this restaurant to others based on our experience.
I left having spent $250+ on dinner feeling hungry, unsatisfied and confused at the experience. I would recommend ordering the bread + meats plate as a filler because you will likely leave hungry as well. At least I regretted not ordering it. While the ambiance was charming and the hostess welcoming, the overall dining experience fell short. Having made a reservation weeks prior, I was disappointed at our table. It was the very first table almost right by the front door and the servers POS station. So it felt isolated from the rest of the room. I wasn’t able to see the view of the chefs or much of anything else tbh. Our service felt kind of awkward. After we placed our drink order, our server passed us a handful of times and was 15 min later until was asked if we had any questions. The server or the people bringing the dish to us also didn’t seem too knowledgable. My favorite item I ordered was the kumquat cocktail. We received a complimentary amuse bouche salad which was my first red flag. They were two tiny pieces of burnt asparagus stacked on top of each other with some micro greens and the texture was off. It lacked any depth or flavor and was not enjoyable and would have preferred to not have even got it. All of the plates looked very creative and aesthetically pleasing but lacked in flavor. The uni was also not fresh, some even more brown in color and the pieces weren’t consistent in size or quality. The sea bass portion was very small with 3 different sauces I felt didn’t compliment each other. My favorite was the scallops but the beans were undercooked. The collard greens with bone marrow was off and didn’t feel like the flavors complimented each other either. We were planning on getting dessert but after a disappointing meal, I didn’t want to be disappointed again and got dessert elsewhere. Overall, I went in with somewhat high expectations given all the raving reviews. I live in the neighborhood and will be back to check out the rooftop happy hour cocktails and oysters.
We’ve come for happy hour a handful of times and while the food is solid—you really can’t beat $1 oysters—we’ve consistently been disappointed with the service. There never seem to be any servers on the rooftop, leaving the bartender to juggle making drinks and taking orders. As a result, drinks come out inconsistent and tables often go unattended. This has happened both on busy weekends and slower midweek visits. We keep coming back for the deals, but we do so knowing the service won’t be the highlight.
North Park really does need some fancier dining spots, and we were so excited to try this place out! The food was all very delicious! Unfortunately, I agree with other reviewers that the food portions were simply far too small, and I left disappointed. There is no worse feeling than spending $400 on a meal as a rare treat and leaving the restaurant starving. The time between courses was very long (between fifteen minutes and a half hour), and they forgot to bring out utensils for one of the courses, so we had to wait even longer to eat. The waits were long enough that I was actually hungrier leaving the restaurant than when we'd arrived. This was even with ordering two additional plates on top of the pre-fixed menu. We had also waited twenty minutes to be seated, even though we had a reservation, and the restaurant wasn't nearly full. That said, most of the staff were very very friendly to my partner and I. Clearly, everybody was well-trained, and I would recommend the rooftop bar to my friends who drink, since it's a cute space. I really want to support this restaurant, but I personally wouldn't go back for a meal unless they make some changes.
Slowest service I’ve had in recent memory. I was in a party of two, saw the nearby table of four getting quite a bit of attention. They were having cocktails, server was opening a bottle, engaging them in conversation. The same server left us waiting quite a while to order a cocktail and waiting another 15 minutes to receive it. With dinner we ordered a bottle of wine, a Sav Blanc from 2022. When the sommelier finally brought it out, she presented a 2015 that was more expensive than what we ordered. No explanation, no conversation, just a big old switcheroo. I don’t need a 10 year old Sav Blanc and how about you come and tell me first that you don’t have what I ordered. The wine list is horrible anyway. Waited forever for the food, so we ended up telling the server to bring the next courses as soon as they were ready. On a positive note, the mussels were amazing as was most of the food. Wish I had the patience to stay for dessert.
This was a disappointing experience. Prix fixe menu was $130 each for 4 courses + a couple amuse bouches. Ingredients were fresh and solid but flavors were highly basic and underwhelming. Best thing of the night was an anchovy appetizer which was extra $. Dessert amuse of melon and ice cream was good too. Other dishes were a combination of bland, blah and just ok. But even the better bites (3 mussels, 1 ravioli, 3 pieces of mackerel, 2 slices of ginger) were unexciting and not fine dining special. Portions were also quite small for so few courses at this price point but I was full enough I suppose.. not craving more blah food anyway. Atmosphere/decor is meh. We waited about 30 minutes after our reservation to be seated. Service a bit erratic but not awful as far as food/ drinks coming out. More significantly I didn't care for the waitresses' style as it was awkward with lots of prompting to call things "delicious" ... Uh no. Edible, sure, but not delicious. I would not come back even if the menu was half price because I like food with flavor. But at this price I find it hard to believe this restaurant will last very long.
Having loved Deckman‘s in Valle, we were super excited to try 31THIRTYONE. Booked a reservation during the first week of opening and were wildly disappointed. Two main reasons, both food related: 1. The first item brought to us was a liver pâté amuse-bouche with roe, which was far too salty to be served without any type of toast / vehicle. 2. The $130 ribeye was so tough that we didn’t even bother finishing it. I also want to note that this had absolutely nothing to do with the serving staff. Everyone working was perfectly attentive and well-versed on the menu.
We’ve been waiting for this to open and had high expectations and were ultimately let down. The prices are exorbitantly high and the food is overall good, but nothing especially amazing and definitely not a good value based on the overall cost of the experience. For two people and three drinks each it was over $400 with tax/tip. At that price point the experience has to be exceptional but this experience was worth probably half that. I don’t see how they’re going to stick around and stay in business with what they’re offering. ***And they charge PER PERSON for tap water, but don’t tell you. It’s in the fine print on the bottom of the menu. Unreal.***
My mom and I were so looking forward to go this restaurant for weeks! Unfortunately, it was a somewhat disappointing dining experience. The outside of the restaurant is pretty non-descript. I wasn’t sure if it was even a restaurant. Once we entered , it was nice enough, but my mom and I were seated at a very small table. We asked if we could be seated at a booth, but they said the booths are reserved for bigger parties. Meanwhile, they have a whole large dining area that they don’t use. Instead they cram all their guests into the front area like sardines. These tables are so small, it reminds me of a cafeteria, and I’m average build sized woman. The food, after what seemed like quite a long wait, was mediocre to good. It wasn’t worth the price, but well, live and learn. One of the waitresses there definitely had an attitude when I asked her to take the menu. She gave me a nasty look and sighed. I was a bit surprised at her reaction, as this hipster restaurant that touts itself to be somewhat exceptional apparently has waiters that greatly dislike their jobs. My mom wound up getting very sick after eating at this restaurant and I didn’t get sick, but had a queasy stomach. My mom and I aren’t sure if it was the food, so I won’t say that it was. Overall, we could have gone some where else, eaten better food, with hopefully better service, but this was a lesson for us to look into the reviews of a restaurant before dropping $250.00.
We had high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience didn't fully justify the high price. We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation but were told our table wasn't ready, so we headed to the rooftop for a cocktail, which was a nice spot. However, we ended up waiting longer than expected, and my husband, who is a type 1 diabetic, had a blood sugar crash as he anticipated eating sooner. The bartenders kindly offered him orange juice, which we appreciated. We were finally seated at 8:45, in a somewhat uncomfortable booth. We were told we’d receive a complimentary glass of champagne, but this didn’t happen. When we asked our server about it, she wasn’t aware of the promise, but instead, she generously poured our first drink a bit heavier. Our first course arrived at 9:30, nearly 1.5 hours after our reservation. While the food was good—although a bit too salty on some courses—the overall experience was somewhat disjointed. For example, they attempted to re-serve our second course before bringing out the third, and when the third course finally arrived, the accompanying wine was delayed. By dessert, some options were no longer available to choose from, which was a disappointment. For over $500 for two people, the experience didn’t live up to expectations.
FYI for whoever saw the foodie IG and Tiktok, I came here specifically for their oyster happy hour (5:00–6:30 PM), which they actively promote on Instagram and TikTok. However, the experience was disappointing and confusing. When I arrived, I was asked to join the waitlist—even though the restaurant had plenty of empty tables. Apparently, they only offer happy hour seating at a very limited number of spots (about 10–12 seats total). At the time I arrived, all 6 outdoor seats were taken, and the remaining 6 seats were just at the bar inside. None of this was mentioned in their social media posts. I was told there were 14 parties ahead of me on the waitlist, but oddly, there wasn’t a single customer visibly waiting around. I asked about the rooftop, and the staff said it was full too, even though the entire place seemed really quiet. I gave my number for the waitlist, but never received any confirmation text or message, so I wasn’t even sure if I was in line or not. The whole thing felt disorganized—almost like a bait-and-switch tactic. Why advertise happy hour so widely if it’s only available to a handful of guests? Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re willing to fight for one of the very few spots—and even then, it’s unclear how the system works.
Can corroborate that the portion sizes are both small and ... baffling. We tried the "spiny lobster" for an extra +$20, but all we got was a tablespoon size piece (see below for yourself!). I... I don't know what to say! The service was lovely! Not turning on the heat during a cold November evening gave us (literally) cold feet. Blankets were nice! I dunno. I feel conflicted writing this and I know a lot of work happens behind the scenes to run the show, but ... we hardly eat out and it was a special occasion, so expectations were high. Have been to Deckman's down in Valle de Guadalupe, so we were pretty excited to try 3131. Think the restaurant is uniquely poised for success but unequal to the task.
Watch out for the oysters! Went for happy hour and had the oyster special. We both ended up sick for 3 days with food poisoning or possibly norovirus. You'd think a high end place like this would be more careful with their shellfish.
Completely different experience than there Guadalupe valley location. This is an overpriced restaurant with no oh my goodness experience and on the top of it you'll leave hungry after spending 500 dollars.... at a 150 per person I expected a wow dinning service and experience. Very disappointed to say the least.
The seating is a a joke I am 6.01b190lbs and I can't move in my seat that is how tight it is. The food portions are so small I left hungry after paying $500 plus tip the servers are from McDonald's trying to serve an idiot that juste shelled 600 for a meal for 2 people. The bottom line this place is an overpriced Overpriced Overpriced Overpriced Overpriced. Try eating at their Guadalupe valley location and you will be amazed. Even the decor is cheap cheap cheap.
We had an incredibly disappointing experience at 31thirtyone Despite having a reservation, we were kept waiting for over 30 minutes, only to be seated in a secluded, dungeon-like private seating area far from the main restaurant action. It felt isolating and completely different from the lively ambiance we were expecting. When we raised our concerns with the manager, he rudely walked away without addressing them. We were left with no choice but to approach the chef ourselves to voice our frustrations. This level of mismanagement and lack of professionalism is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience. There are far better places where both service and atmosphere are taken seriously.
I had dinner here when the restaurant initially opened and I won’t be going back. I had made reservations well in advance but was then seated in a cramped dining room in the back away from the main action. The portions are absurdly small and the wine pairings were underwhelming. I’ve had far better experiences for half the price. Bummer because Deckman’s in Valle de Guadalupe was quite good.
We had a Valentines dinner and they totally screwed up on the main dish, fillet with blood orange topping. It was so tough that it’s completely inedible. They took the dish back and changed to hanger steak that was tasteless. No one from the kitchen came out and we were given the impression that they just didn’t really care. The table next to us had the same experience. They just lost us as a customer for good. It’s a pity because we used to like the place. This is not the kind of service you’d expect when you pay $500 for a meal for two. It’s sad that some restaurants just don’t know how to keep customers and make it right when things go wrong. To top it off—we brought the leftover steak home for the dog and even he wouldn’t touch it. Oh well. $500 and a special evening down the drain.
