We tried the spicy tuna roll, the Philadelphia roll and the caterpillar roll. All 3 were delicious and super fresh and NOT loaded with sodium! We live in walking distance to this little gem and will for sure be back! The service was super friendly and fast.
I brought my girlfriend here for an authentic sushi experience and was not disappointed! We ordered all sorts of Sashimi, Nigiri, and Tempura for dinner. The quality and price of the meal was second to none and we left full and happy. I will gladly come back to this restaurant the next time I visit pacific beach!
This place brings me a lot of happiness. I know I have reviewed this place before but I thought it could use another considering how things have been during the pandemic. I am continually pleased at the quality of not just the food but the service as well. And to their diligence of being so clean and proactive even during the later stages of this where most other places are getting lax. Thank you to Tony and the whole outstanding crew at Mr.Sushi.
Best sushi in San Diego, for sure. The Takoyaki is delicious as well as any sushi roll. My girlfiriend and me had dinner for 85 dollars, it's not expensive!
Mister Sushi always reminds me of actually being in Japan. It is hard to say exactly why, but it's a great feeling. Their quality is top notch, the service is excellent, and their sashimi is delicious. I always feel like their sushi is a good value. I don't know why anyone would go anywhere else in PB for their sushi.
Staff was extremely friendly. It was not busy at all at 1pm on a Friday. I was able to order nigiri and one roll, which came so quickly I was in and out in about 30min! Food tasted fresh and was delicious. Excellent experience, would definitely visit again!
I lived in Japan for 6 years and this place really made me feel at home. Super traditional, cozy, DELICIOUS fish, and great service with a chef that genuinely seems to love what he does. Coming from someone who likes sushi above all else, this is the best place in PB for sushi and elsewhere. Arigato Gozaimasu
Where to start? This place is fantastic! The food is just as good. There are some more premium places in PB area, but price to quality, I honestly don't know of a better place. While it's simple, I've never gotten a bad roll here, ever. Try to meet the chef, such a sweet man.
I just went there for a takeout as it was close to where I was staying. I was surprised by the quality of their food. Everything is fresh and it's a real Japanese restaurant. The owners are very polite. I liked my brief experience there and I enjoyed the meal so much 😀
I adore this sushi restaurant! Their food quality is consistent and fresh. The staff is professional and attentive. An amazing find for people who enjoy sushi beyond just rolls.
Best sushi ever! Fresh fine quality fish, very authentic! Small, but every time I make a reservation, I'm seated without problem. This is my go to place to bring visitors.
Our family’s favorite sushi place for over 20 years. We recommend getting nigiri and sashimi to best enjoy the fresh fish. It’s a modest, traditional sushi bar with a casual atmosphere. Come support a small local business!!
I’ve been coming to Mister Sushi since 1996. Nice people, great sushi. Custom vegan options available. I think this is the best sushi house in PB, honestly. If you are coming to sit and eat, call ahead because it’s a small restaurant. One of the only sushi restaurants with real Japanese owners. Super good prices as well. When we order take out, it’s always neatly packed. I think this restaurant has been open since the 80’s and it’s run by the same owners. How can you question someone who’s been making sushi for 30+ years?! Try it. You won’t be disappointed!!!
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had! Quality ingredients and superb fish. Highly recommend the #17, but everything was great. The service was fast and really kind which made the experience all the better.
This is my new favorite local sushi restaurant. They answered the phone right away, called me when my order was ready, and were super polite and friendly when they gave me the food. The portions were amazing, with really thick slices of fish that tasted super fresh. I also really appreciate that they take COVID-19 precautions seriously. Overall great experience!
Best Japanese restaurant in Pacific Beach. Their tempura is the best in San Diego. One of the few Japanese restaurants with Japanese cooks.
Excellent sushi! And the price is not too bad at all--especially considering what you get! It's high quality, not an all you can eat place. However, most all-you-can-eat places are about $25 per person. My husband and I spent that same amount of money here, but the quality was far superior to any all-you-can-eat sushi place I've seen. I definitely recommend this place!
This sushi restaurant has a very special place in our hearts... It was the first sushi we ever tried, many years ago, before the world learned what sushi and California rolls are... It is one of the special foodie places we miss the most since we moved away from San Diego, and one of the first places we go to when we visit! It is the quintessential and one of the pioneering sushi restaurants in California! It is iconic, and a local institution... The food is not only perfectly crafted, and meticulously delicious, but in fact, we can say unequivocally that it is the best sushi we’ve ever had! (And we’ve had many...). Very highly recommended!
The sushi just melts in your mouth. Very nice cuts of sushi. The rolls were very flavorful. You can definitely taste the freshness of the fish. Prices are fair for what you get. Now, definitely one of my favorite sushi spots. Ill be coming back again. Staff is very nice and attentive. Cute little sushi spot.
So good! The Spicy Lobster roll was amazing and had a lot of meat, I got the spider roll (soft shell crab) which is always good, I special requested quail eggs wrapped in seaweed with rice(not on menu). The green tea has matcha, so it is very nice and flavorful. The Owner and employees are from Japan and very nice. Limited seating but worth the wait!
We would come here every week if we could! The #17 roll is the best sushi roll I’ve ever had. The sushi chefs are awesome and have learned our go to orders and what we might like trying. All around our favorite place to get sushi!
We’ve eaten at practically every sushi spot in San Diego and nothing comes close to the quality you get here. Tony and Sue always deliver amazing customer service and the sushi is consistently fresh and top-tier. My whole family is full of sushi addicts and we still haven’t found anywhere that compares to Mr. Sushi. Our favorites include the La Bamba hand roll, the shrimp tempura roll, crunchy roll and the halibut sashimi with spicy sauce, everything is absolutely delicious!
It was my kids' first trip to see the ocean, so we went to Mission Beach. They also wanted to try fresh sushi, so we randomly picked Mister Sushi. I got a couple of California rolls because I knew they'd eat those, and a rainbow roll because I knew I'd eat that. Turns out, they all loved the rainbow roll even more than the California rolls! Service was fast and our server was so welcoming. Best sushi I've had. If we ever get back to the area, we'd definitely be repeat customers.
My favorite sushi place in Southern California. Naoki is an awesome sushi chef, he is like an artist preparing sushi! Excellent food, and atmosphere!
Small restaurant but really good sushi and service. We tried the market fish they had on special for the night and you could tell it was really fresh. I would say the price per roll is what you would expect given the higher quality.
So glad I made a reservation here! Had a California roll and tried a rainbow roll-- they were both delicious. Service was excellent as well, and the prices were great considering how good the sushi was! Excited to go back and try something new.
Very good service, food is yummy 😋. Staffs and ower are so nice.
Really great sushi without the huge lines and nice service. Small, dive atmosphere.
Very small quaint Japanese sushi spot. Rolls were amazing, gotta get #14. Fried oyster were also great. Overall great experience. Will be back soon

Just a wonderful sushi bar in PB with fresh fish, creative rolls, and a wonderful chef behind the counter.
Mr. Sushi has been a staple since 1998. Delicious sushi and excellent service. Usually, there is no line when Ota is slammed. It only lacks some of the flair that Ota has, the sushi is on the same level.
Really good authentic sushi. More in the pricey side of things but overall pretty good.
We always receive excellent service and top quality food.
chef tony is one of a kind! a true master of sushi. I've been coming here since i was a 17. he never ever disappoints. i love the guy! no one does it like he does, he's meticulous and takes his time to make superb sushi. chef tony you're the man!!

So we've been going to almost every sushi restaurant in Pacific Beach recenty to try them all out. Mister Sushi would have to be one of the top spots. Their food reminds me of more authentic Japanese sushi vs. the California version you get at most other places. We ordered 4 different rolls and some that were not on the menu for my son. The food came out fresh and tasted great. My only recommendation would be for the owners to spend some time with the decor and furniture. Seems most places just forget that these things make a HUGE impression on guests.
I really dig the vibe here. Pretty classic sushi joint. The chefs are friendly. It is small inside. They seem to default to using wasabi on the nigiri which takes away from the fish in my opinion. The rolls were delicious. They made a minor mistake with our order and our checks but we got it wasn't a big deal to get corrected. Will definitely return!
Great sushi and teriyaki chicken for reasonable prices. I would highly recommend the teriyaki chicken dinner and the Rainbow roll, both of which were fantastic. Service was decent, nothing to complain about considering our large group. Overall, a great small sushi restaurant in PB.
An old, established sushi restaurant with a very interactive bar, but the restaurant shows its age. The prices were what you would expect for being on the main Street through Pacific Beach. The daily specials were very good, but spendy. There was plenty of room at the bar and through the restaurant
$15 Rainbow roll tasted fine. It was pretty big and fell apart when picked up. The avocado on it was excellent. The tuna appeared enhanced, it stained my chopsticks which I’ve not experienced before.

Walking in was thinking this could either be a great hole in the wall or just some bad sushi place. Unfortunately it's the latter and just has that grungey look. Not sure how this place has 4.6 stars, like wow. There's no salmon rolls, their Nigiri is bleh. The hand rolls are the stingiest I have EVER seen, filled with rice and no fish. My baked salmon roll was also about half the size it should normally be. The entire menu looked kinda stingy noticing that there were no rolls with salmon and that turned out to be a good hunch. Everything here is about being as cheap as possible with no regard for quality. The sushi tastes bad. For the quality and portions, the price should be half.
We had a reservation for a table for 4 people which we had booked well in advance. When we arrived, however, we were told that there was no table and that we could only sit next to each other at the bar. Of course, we remarked that we would prefer to sit at a table as you can't have a good conversation at the bar next to each other. However, the staff were very unfriendly to us and had no understanding for our situation. Definitely cannot recommend this restaurant.
My daughter and I ordered take out sushi last week for the first time at Mister Sushi on Garnet Ave. It is very unusual for me to write a review but I thought I would let others know our opinion. We ordered basic rolls of tuna, yellow tail and miso soup and also sashimi. The miso soup was good but the Sushi and Sashimi was not good. It was hard, not flavorful and honestly we both did not feel well after dinner. Need I say more...........
When you walk in a sushi place and it's warm inside you already know you should leave. I stayed. Mistake. Rolls nothing special. Beers coldish msybe a second star for that. Sushi small cuts normal prices. Won't return.
I read the reviews and decided to give this local place a try. We dined this evening (8/27) and the service was a one star at best from the start. We ordered two miso soups & only one was brought out at the beginning, we had to ask multiple times for straws, server gave two of our plates to the table next to us so they had to remake our plates. When they brought out our plates the entrees were made poorly & nothing like when they first brought it out to the table next to us. And to it end it off, they accidentally charged us for extra items we did not order. The restaurant was not busy during this time, it was a quiet Tuesday so it is difficult to justify what happened. No apology was given. Maybe I should have said something but I am not that type of customer and just went on with my day. The food was okay, we did not finish everything. The service was very disappointing. I won’t be coming back & won’t recommend this place to anybody. (My first review ever)
We made our reservation a few days early because my brother and his wife wanted to celebrate their wedding there. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely full. Despite our reservation, we were told to sit at the bar. As we wanted to have a chat and still had something to celebrate, this was not an option. A table became available, but we were not allowed to take a seat as the table was reserved. However, we had also made a reservation. Nevertheless, we were sent away. I would definitely not recommend coming here.
Been having some great seafood all week in San Diego and decided to go to Mister sushi for some last fresh fish. I was highly disappointed by the quality. Got two rolls that came out to be $40 and they were not good. The fish did not taste fresh or good and everything tasted a bit off. I love sushi and was hungry but couldn’t even finish these rolls. I don’t know if it was a one-off occurrence but I will not be coming back.
Now I know where not to go for sushi, worst food ever !!!! Food taste was very bland, I’ve had better California rolls at Vons. The soup broth was not tasty. The chicken teriyaki was cheap chicken meat and loaded with sauce.
Hamachikama $19 / most other places 9.95. Ordered Appetizer rolls (on picture 6) - gave me to go order 3, cut in half... will not waste time on the rest of the quality. PB sushi next door...(very low quality in my book) - was still much better..... NEVER AGAIN
