Wonderful little classic breakfast diner. Fast and friendly at a good price.
Four employees working super hard, Jose (chef) delivered my breakfast in 15 minutes, attention to details, the bionic waitress was alone, very professional, room was packed! The music was blasting, it didn’t bother me or hurt the experience. The food was delicious, a diner from 1973 doesn’t have to be reinvented!
First time at this dinner 🍽️ Most reviews point out the biscuits and gravy, but I opted for something different. I ordered the steak and eggs with bell peppers hash brown. I think that if a dinner can't execute on this basic order than everything else might not be great. But this place delivered. The 🥩 was cooked medium as I ordered. The 🥚s where cooked over medium and they delivered. The 🥩 and 🥚s were well seasoned, fyi I never put any sauce on steaks because it hides the flavor on a well cooked 🥩 (IMO). The has brown were delicious, and it was plenty. Coffee was good, I went early Sunday around 7:30am, it didn't have a that burn taste, sign that was on the heat plate for a long time. Service was quick and friendly. I believe I heard the waitress name is Amanda. She is very attentive and friendly. Parking in OB is difficult to find, so I recommend going early morning. I'll definitely visit this place again and try the other menu items.
Dropped by here for a last minute brunch and was glad I did. Their omelets are huge and shareable for sure. A wonderful staff who are friendly and patient. Be sure to give them a try when in the area.
If you ever have desired the place in your heart where you can indulge in the best omelet on the planet let me fill you in. With an amazing staff both back of the house and front you will be delighted to encounter the owned Ted who is happy to serve. Our amazing server Amanda gives you what you need and the fuel to cruiz along in the 1502.
If you're craving a taste of Ocean Beach's laid-back charm served with a side of delicious comfort food, look no further than the Old Townhouse Restaurant. This hidden gem captures the essence of OB with its cozy atmosphere and friendly vibes. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the aroma of sizzling bacon and the sound of laughter echoing off the walls. The menu is a love letter to classic diner fare, with mouthwatering burgers, hearty breakfasts, and satisfying sandwiches that hit the spot every time. Whether you're nursing a hangover or fueling up for a day of surfing, the Old Townhouse has got you covered. But it's not just the food that keeps locals coming back—it's the sense of community you feel as soon as you walk through the door. It's like stepping into Cheers, where everybody knows your name (or at least your order). The staff are like family, and they'll make sure your meal is served with a side of good conversation and a warm smile. So next time you find yourself in Ocean Beach craving a taste of home, swing by the Old Townhouse Restaurant. You'll leave with a full stomach and a heart full of OB love.
This place is great for breakfast while you’re in San Diego. It was a very cozy diner that served us very well. We got the French toast breakfast along with the waffle breakfast which came with eggs, hash browns, and the choice of sausage or bacon. I would have liked the waffle to have been a bit thicker and the sausage links were like the frozen ones from the grocery store. Overall, everything tasted great. The eggs and hash browns were cooked to perfection. It was a great feast!
I was told by multiple people that I had to try the well recommended Biscuits and Gravy (2 biscuits halved with sausage gravy) at The Old Townhouse Restaurant. So yesterday on my day off, I ventured back. I went in 45 minutes before they closed (closed at 2pm on a Thursday), felt bad about the timing so I asked the ever so awesome Anna if it was too late to order and she smiled, welcomed me in and said of course not. At that time it was not super busy (how I like things), so I ordered my food, ate it and was literally out of the restaurant within 20’ish minutes. This photo of the B&G is probably the most bland photogenic dish I’ve posted to date but I’ll tell you there’s nothing bland about this plate. Sometimes the best things are hidden in plain sight. If you’re in the mood for old school comfort diner food, this will hit that spot and then definitely take you way behind. This gravy could easily be sold as a soup in a cup to go by itself and those biscuits were like fluffy clouds. I’ve tried biscuits in the past (most times super dry) and I’ve almost choked to death. The texture with these Old Townhouse Restaurant biscuits were perfection with ample amount of gravy (which is key) to make the whole plate delicious!!!
We were totally the tourists coming in looking for a good breakfast, and found it! A clear favorite with the locals, but the treated us like family and we loved the options from their menu. Great food, decent pricing, and would totally come back next time we are passing through. Great place!!
Great portions. Food tasted fresh and came out quickly. Also ordered two bloody Mary's that had great tang. The service here was amazing. Servers were attentive and always made sure we were satisfied. My favorite was the french toast. The bread was as fluffy as you would expectand the powdered sugar was a nice touch.
Food was good, service was average although I'll cut her some slack because they were busy, the bus boy and dishwasher was working ther behinds off! So I did manage to make my way to the kitchen area and tip them both the server also.tge only set back was the flies, i was told their bad this time of year.
Your typical breakfast joint with all your favourite dishes. The omelettes are filled with whatever you choose. The hash browns are crispy and plentiful. The biscuits with gravy was alright. The gravy was too thick for my liking and got cold way too fast. Fantastic service. I never had to ask for a refill. The staff were on top of the coffee and water
Old school classic vibe as expected. Really liked the layout and decor. Staff was very friendly and inviting. Food was meh…ordered the waffle breakfast with sausage, eggs and hashbrowns. The waffles were super thin, sausage tasted cheap like from the frozen isle, eggs were good and Hashbrowns were cooked perfectly but tasted stale. My Momma had the biscuits & gravy and wasn’t impressed. Our server was great food wasn’t bad just mediocre quality with plenty room for improvements.
I wanted to start of by saying is that i hate giving bad views. I have been to all 49 states including here in California. Just getting my daughters oil change done and decided to get something to eat. I happen to stumble on this restaurant and it look old fashion so decided to eat here. I got in and decided I will sit in the back. I ordered my food which cake out at a reasonable timely manner. As I am enjoying my food the waiter come and drop my bill not even 2 mins into my meals. Now this has happen to me in the past where I go into white folks establishment when they think I won't pay or leave a tip. This is a well know practice. How I know because I stay and watch everyone around me who comes in who is not of a dark complexion as I am. She waitress didn't not give anyone else their bill as they got there food. Everyone payed at the end. I stayed for almost 45 mins just watching and observing. After she gave me my ticket I didn't even see her from that moment didn't come over and say hey is everything OK. I had to get my doggy bag from the bus guy dont want to call him a boy because he's a grown man. And he was apologizing because I told him what my experience was. I left her a tip thinking it be a good service. I shouldn't have left her anything at all because of the unprofessional attitude she had. Even when she thru the bill down I took out my American Express letting her know listen lady I got you. Then when she came over she left the card on the table left the device where you tap the card on; on the table and left. But I still gave her the benifit of the doubt she be a good service waitress. I was wrong. I want to give your restaurant advice if people come in to spend money on your expensive food and they were pleasant to you learn to have customer service and treat everyone fair. I watched as this woman go from table to table taking care of everyone else but me and I was only the dark skin person. I can't call myself African American because I wasn't born in this country. That's all I have to say....
The waitress, whom I assume may be the owner was very rude rushing my wife and I. She was very unattentive and unhelpful when it came time to pay. My wife is someone who genuinely assumes the best in people's intentions and she noticed and disliked it as well. I am guessing this is normal for her to be so unpleasant with customers. The food was okay, but not great. I had their special. I wouldn't suggest it or have anybody go out of there way for it. The environment had funny cheeky signs which were nice, but some of them were inappropriate for a business. The chairs were old and worn down. Very uncomfortable and with how far the booth tables were from the tables I had to lean in to hear my wife with still being mindful of others. Over all I would not suggest this place.
My wife and I weren’t very happy with our experience. Prices were too high, especially on their a la carte menu. My wife ordered the Vegan Delight; unfortunately, it should have been called Vegan Remorse. The dish was composed of raw, unripe tomatoes topped with avocado, accompanied with a side of hash browns with some lightly roasted bell peppers and onions. Everything was severely under seasoned for both of us. The staff were very kind, but our server made a mistake with our order. We decided not to say anything so we could leave as soon as possible. I like the idea of this place, but it definitely didn’t meet expectations.
Only thing good here was the over medium eggs, refills of coffee and that’s it. For $24 most my plate had no taste and i feel like throwing up … food need’s mode seasoning or a better chef in the kitchen, The Broken Yolk food taste better other than that this is my honest review; but workers here are wonderful.
We ordered vegi Benedicts. The egg was fried instead of poached. The guy who gave us coffee was great but our waitress was meh. I love old Americana decor, but this one was dirty looking.
