Right in the center of the restaurant district of La Jolla Shores is an understated and elegant Italian restaurant offering a beautifully intimate experience near the crash of the waves and the energy of happy beach visitors. This place was always packed when I would walk by and I finally enjoyed their appeal. The squash ravioli was divine. The walnut cream sauce felt like a warm hug, and to top it off, Art, our server made me feel so at home that I felt full of both laughter and pasta. I highly and warmly recommend this spot 💕💕
Beautiful restaurant in La Jolla with a really nice atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Rotolo, which was delicious, the mushrooms and spinach went really well together. The penne was also great with a perfect sauce. The mashed potatoes and Italian bread were excellent sides.
First time to eat here, celebrated my son and his GF's engagement. Bread with oil & vinegar was very good. I had spaghetti with meatballs, noodles were cooked well and sauce was tasty. Quite a few small meatballs, they were delicious. Everyone at the table enjoyed their different plates and commented how good they were. A could people were unable to finish their plates as they had the calamari appetizers, which disappeared rather quickly.
Amazing Italian restaurant in the heart of La Jolla shores. Food is top notch, our service was absolutely incredible and the memories made will last a lifetime! Definitely call ahead and make a reservation if you can. Large outdoor eating space with plenty of heaters if cold. Blocks away from the beach, this La Jolla spot is a staple in the neighborhood !
We stopped by for a quick dinner and ordered the Cannelloni and a glass of wine! The Cannelloni was delicious, especially with the braised short rib; it can easily be shared if you're not too hungry. The wine selection is pretty good, and the waiters were super friendly! Don't be shy asking for food/wine recommendations since the waiters are amazing! Highly recommend 👌
Passed by and decided to try it last week when we visited San Diego- SO good! Home-feel italian interior with open kitchen- you can see the chef moving around preparing your pasta! Low key but classy decors. Food- we ordered wine and cocktail to pair with our pasta. Not only was the pasta perfectly done, but the saffron sauce was also rich and robust in flavor. Will definitely come back here! 😋
Great service and food came out fast. The fresh pasta was delicious. Get the shrimp saffron dish, quite unique and tasty. The dough for the pizza was so soft, my boys loved it. The red sauce was well done, very flavorful and the sausage had some amazing flavors. The tiramisu was delicate and disappeared fast.
This was a fun dining experience. The restaurant had a cozy feel to it. We sat outside as the weather was very nice and pleasant. Went there for Sunday Brunch. They had good Italian roast coffee, tasty spicy bloody marry, and warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar with crushed garlic that was a hit. We had the salmon eggs Benedict and French toast with a side of grilled chorizo. Food was very tasty and well prepared with good presentation. Devin dud a great job serving us. She was very pleasant, friendly, and professional.
If you're looking for a solid Italian place in La Jolla, check out Piatti. We sat in the courtyard which has such a cute vibe in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. The homemade pasta and wood fire grill for the pizzas add a whole other element to their dishes. We ordered the bruschetta, margherita pizza, pappardelle, cannelloni, and the special pesto pasta all to share between 3 people. Everything paired so nicely with the bottle of Borgonero we drank. I'd highly recommend the bruschetta as Piatti offers it with mushrooms and goat cheese - the pairing is truly out of this world. I'd also suggest the braised short rib cannelloni with ricotta - it is so delicious. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu and affogato that were both incredible.
Such a wonderful place for couples and family. I suggest to go in the night as you can enjoy the lights and cool breeze along with hot food. We got to know about this restaurant by one of our friends here and it has a high ratings as well. And yes it’s worth the visit!! It’s a traditional Italian restaurant, prior reservations are must as it’s highly crowded or else you can go directly there and get a table if you have time to wait. Their authentic pastas and pizza are really nice and must try. And the waiters were so kind as we didn’t like one pizza there as we wanted vegetarian pizza he changed the pizza and served with customised pizza without even questioning us, which really made us happy😃 I highly recommend this restaurant when you are in La Jolla !!!
Love lunching or dinner-ing here in the outdoor patio. I like the inside ambience less but the food and service are great. Yum.
Always a delight. I keep trying different foods that are chicken or fish based. The options are small but I don't care. I love all options I've had so far! Yummy!
We celebrated my daughter’s 11th birthday here this week and had a fantastic time! We were a group of 12 and from beginning to end, we had a great experience. They were so accommodating! Kaitlin was so wonderful, patient, and warm. The food was delicious. The restaurant was beautiful. Thank you, Piatti, for helping make some nice memories. 😊 We look forward to returning.
We come here once or twice a year celebrating birthdays and special occasions. The service is excellent as is the food and drink. I love sitting in the outside back where a large tree provides plenty of shade. Everyone is helpful and friendly. I look forward to returning and highly recommend this restaurant.
This restaurant is hands down one of my all time favorite restaurants of all time, NOT just in San Diego! Their mouth watering dip for their delicious bread is to DIE FOR! Not to mention, I've never had one dish there that isn't extraordinary! If you have not been yet, you're missing out! If you have, hopefully this reminds you that it's time to come again! Cheers!
The food was excellent and the ambience was lovely. We sat outside and watched people going by. As the sun started to set, a waiter came out and turned on heaters to ward off the chill. We also had dessert and enjoyed that too. The kids menu got a thumbs up from my 9-year-old. You will want a reservation to make sure you can get in.
Lovely Italian restaurant not far from the sea front. We felt very welcomed when greeted and the service was perfect. There is a good selection of Italian food on the menu, we ordered the salami pizza because i am basic, and the cannelloni, both taste great. Thank you for a nice evening at your restaurant
My girlfriend and I are huge food fans and at times we like to joke around that we are mini Gordon Ramsey from Kitchen Nightmares. If Gordon would come here he would have the time of his life! The food is fantastic, the waiters are kind and caring and the atmosphere is just right after a good day at the beach! I highly recommend this place for everyone especially with your special someone.
Probably the best Italian food I have ever had. The Cannelloni was the winning dish of the evening (2nd pic) followed by the Budino Di Mela (apple, bourbon, caramel and gelato). Piatti offers both patio seating as well as inside seating, capable of accommodating both friends and family as well as more of an intimate setting. **Warning** After you eat here, it's going to ruin all those "other" good Italian restaurants you like.
Piatti was spotless — exceptionally clean inside and out. We had an amazing time over the holiday weekend. The atmosphere was perfect: great ambience, relaxed vibe, and those sparkling clean windows really stood out. If they take this much pride in the front of house, I can only imagine how well the kitchen is maintained. We came with a group and everyone was impressed. My wife and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
Wonderful dinner for one! I walked in with no reservation and was seated in the beautiful back courtyard (fairy lights and a big central tree). You have to get the bread with seasoned olive oil, it’s insane. The prawn parpadelle was delicious. The prawns themselves were huge and perfectly cooked. Pretty decent gin and tonic too.
I forgot all about this amazing restaurant! My son and I were going to a movie at The Lot and wanted dinner. This popped up and I’m so happy it did. We loved the balsamic dip for the bread, then an amazing pear salad, the flavors were unbelievable and a great combination. Let’s not forget the fresh and over-the-top pasta, that was to die for. I promise not to let this place fall off the restaurant radar!! Can’t wait to go back..
We went to piatti's to celebrate my mother's 98th birthday and they had a special menu printed that wish her happy birthday on the top of the menu. Menu selections we're varied, the food was great, the service was excellent and the atmosphere on the outdoor patio was fabulous.
This place has been around for ever, and quality has not decreased in my opinion. Last night they where very busy but things went smoothly. My only qualm was with the mussel apetizer. They where bit dry and lacking in flavour. Everything else was spot on and a vehicle to a wonderfull evening.
Update June 11, 2022 Everything seems to have changed with Covid but Piatti’s is a staple. Very consistent and always a good selection of wines. Ordered an altered version of the linguini with clams and is a hit as usual Definitely recommended. ….. 4.5 I’ve been going here for over 10 years. Love it. The bar is my favorite. Michael, one of the bartenders has been there for as long or longer. He’s the best. The food is great. Drinks and wines are great. Definitely a place for an intimate dinner or fun evening out. Oh... you must have their Tiramisu OMG!
I loved this place. Everything. All of his head was delicious. I had the sea bass tacos and they were truly the best fish tacos I've ever had in my life.
While exploring La Jolla for a day of kayaking, my husband and I decided to try one of the local spots for a bite to eat. With plenty of Italian options to choose from, we settled on Piatti because of its cozy ambiance. The wait was around 30 minutes, but that was expected since it was a busy weekend and Piatti was clearly a popular choice among locals and tourists. Once we were seated, our waitress greeted us with a friendly smile and our food arrived surprisingly quickly. I ordered the Cannelloni, and it was absolutely delicious and filling. After paddling in the cold water for couple of hours, it was the perfect hearty meal that hit the spot. My husband opted for the vegan pizza, and he loved the combination of eggplant, grilled shiitake mushrooms, arugula, and vegan feta. Overall, our experience at Piatti was delightful. If you're in La Jolla and in the mood for Italian food, Piatti is definitely worth a visit.
Hi everyone 👋👋👋👋 It was wonderful experience with Piatti La Jolla Restaurant so clean, they changed tablescloth and accessories after every customer ❕ Food is so tasty, everything is fresh. ,🍝🍝🍝 Hostes and waiters was gentle and courteous. After our visit, I added Piatti La Jolla in my favorite restaurant list. They have a special menu for kids 🚸🚸🚸🚸🚸 Absolutely recommend you Thanks 👍👍👍
We had an absolutely wonderful evening at Piatti. The food was top notch, service was so good. We felt cared for the entire night, which I k ow must be exhausting for the staff, but you wouldn't know. Our meals were so good and we definitely want to come back.
This is truly a hidden gem. Delicious Italian food, great atmosphere and great service. I will definitely be returning. The Cauliflower steak appetizer was so good!
Ate dinner here with friends recently, but have been many times over many years. Piatti is always good, and is my choice in this area which has three Italian restaurants within a block. The atmosphere is lively, and the patio seating area is very lovely and romantic. Piatti offers a wide array of dishes - salads, pastas, appetizers, pizzas, and fish/seafood/chicken etc but I was disappointed that I was unable to have the vegetable toppings offered on a pizza on pasta instead. As a vegetarian, I would love to have more options at Piatti. The pasta dish I ordered was fine, but more vegetable offerings would be great. One particularly excellent thing at Piatti is the garlic/oil/herb dip served with bread at the outset - hard to stop but you need to leave room for the rest of the meal. Really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service here. Started with the calamari and shrimp which was delicious, followed by the beef short rib cannelloni which was even better. The bread basket with the chilli oil was great too. This is a definitely a special occasion restaurant as we saw at least 3 tables celebrating birthdays. We ate on the patio so this meant these larger groups weren't too noisy which can be the case inside - good planning by the restaurant! I definitely wish this was my local Italian!
The lasagna at this place is delicious. I give it 5 stars. The service was wonderful. Brook took very good care of us. The atmosphere is beautiful. The big overhanging tree on the patio is truly enchanting. This is the second time I've eaten here and I wanna eat there a third and fourth and fifth time. Totally recommend this place.
We sat out in the patio under the beautifully lit huge tree. Thanks for keeping the tree Piatti!! Our waiter was Armando and he was great. He was attentive and knowledgeable and friendly. The fried calamari y shrimp was a fantastic appetizer, elevated above your standard calamari app. My adult daughter raved about the short rib canneloni. We ordered a dessert to split, but when Armando overheard that it was my birthday, he brought us a tiramisu instead with a candle, at no charge. It was a wonderful evening.
Cannot wait to come back . Get the home made papdeli pasta and home made spaghetti sauce (San marzano tomatoes) and tender home made meatballs ! These balls Melt in your mouth! Monica is amazing ! Have us suggestions, very personable, professional and joyful ! Looking forward to visiting here again! Great coffee too. Ambiance is incredible!
This is a beautiful upscale restaurant near the beach in La Jolla, perfect for a special lunch or dinner. The food is consistently excellent, and the menu offers a wide variety of options, so there is always something you’ll truly enjoy. The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, and the clientele adds to the pleasant experience. You can expect a refined setting, great service, and an overall dining experience that makes you want to come back again.
I think it has the best tiramisu this side of Italy. They have great food in a lovely setting. We have had many great lunches there as well. Prices are reasonable.
Absolutely fabulous dinner. Dined outside in the back patio. The bread with dipping oil was a great start and I had to control myself as I was starving. My party of three had drinks, then shared bruschetta and the beet salad. Our entrees were all delicious. My lemon ravioli was perfect for the lemon lover in me (and the vegetarian). For dessert the affrogato was the perfect ending. Service was spectacular. Even extraordinary. They went out of their way to find out of the cheese they use in the beet dish (grana padana) was vegetarian (it likely wasn't but head chef was off for the night and all cheese was grated or sliced off the wheel). However it was obvious that was the only cheese so I ate small amounts and pretended it was ok to eat, and I was fine. All staff was super attentive. The only downside was the very loud and getting more inebriated party of six that was seated beside us during our appetizer. Throughout the dinner, they were quite loud, ignoring the glances of other guests. If you were the party of six middle age adults celebrating a birthday that evening, we really didn't need to hear your conversations in their entirety (to the extent we often couldn't hear our own), nor was it comfortable to have your drop in guests standing right by our tables, all still quite loud. (Fortunately we were reseated so we could enjoy our desserts in relative peace.) I highly recommend Piatti's and have every intention of going back. I'm still dreaming of the lemon ravioli and the affrogato! I know most guests are responsible and respectful. (Sadly we were enjoying the evening so much, we only remembered to take snaps of our drinks and toast!)
A perfect dinner spot after a walk in La Jolla! Everything about this Italian restaurant was top-notch - from the elegant atmosphere with crisp white tablecloths to the warm and attentive service. The food was absolutely delicious - every dish full of flavor and beautifully presented. We came for dinner after a lovely walk through La Jolla, and it was the perfect way to end the evening. Highly recommend!
Excellent food and service, we had the veal and the ravioli with eggplant. Both were excellent. The mushroom risotto cakes with the veal were delicious too. We did dine much earlier than normal at 4:15 PM to get to our concert later, but the restaurant was already 1/3 full then, and filled before we left at 5:20. Great friendly and helpful staff, we will go back.
When I’m in the mood for pasta, I go to Piatti. They are right by La Jolla Shores and I love dining here after seeing a sunset. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and very cozy. It’s the kind of place where you’ll see family gatherings, I’ve seen lots of groups of people of various ages - always a nice crowd. The service is exceptional, everyone is so friendly here. They have a cute courtyard with a big central tree, and the vibe there is especially pleasant in the evening, with fairy lights and a cozy, intimate feel. Piatti’s house made pasta is delicious. All the house pasta items on the menu that we tried were very yummy. Cauliflower cakes - healthy and delicious option. Everyone in my family loves coming here 😊. I want to specifically mention the dessert: Budino di Mele! Apple bread pudding with caramel and gelato. 🔥🔥🔥 Not every dessert is worth breaking your fast or diet for, but this one is.
Food was good. Seating inside is good and ambience is great. But outside seating is super calm and good too. Visited for lunch during weekend, walk in is okay. Perfect weather. Ordered Cauliflower cakes and ravioli de Zucca. Wine was perfect with the ravioli. Bread and sauce were superfresh and good but they are not complimentary but good to try. This restaurant is at the great location. Service was good. 90 minutes street parking. Walkable distance to the beach.
We made a last minute reservation here and ended up showing up an hour early. The hostess was so sweet and was able to seat us immediately on the patio. The outdoor seating was so cute and a perfect way to watch the sunset over the beach. Service was great but the support staff was outstanding. They were so kind and friendly and worked very efficiently. Food was just as great as the service. We had the bread & carpaccio to start the dipping oil was so flavorful. For entrees I got a half portion of the orrichette & ravioli… sooooooo good. Would eat it everyday if I could. Everything about this place was great and id recommend to anyone
An absolutely delightful place. The food was outstanding, and service to match. We ordered the lasagna and the Orecchiette, both were excellent and very generous portions. The ambiance was superb, such a rustic and homey feel. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a top meal in the area, without breaking the bank. As good as it gets!
Piatti is a fine dining Italian restaurant in La Jolla shores. It's been a local favourite for over 30 years. Famous for their house made fresh pasta and wood fire pizza oven. All our dishes were delicious. Indoor or patio seating. Friendly and accommodating staff. As it's popular, reservations are highly recommended.

We ate there 3x during the 5 days we were in La Jolla - that should say it all. Service was good. atmosphere lovely.
Scrumptious Italian food in the heart of La Jolla. The waitress handled our order with ease and patience, and all of our orders turned out to be scrumptious. My only complaint would be the beans side dish, which was bland and looked like it was straight out of a can. I would highly recommend the Cavatappi dish and the Linguine. Reasonable prices for La Jolla.
Pizza and pasta is out of expectations. It is a local italian restaurant with too much Italian brand show up. But when you come to the taste of the food , not as enough as it shows up. Atmosphere is great , all La Jolla community was there but this menü, needs a good update if you are carrying an italian flag. With this taste and menü , sorry to say but you cant put a surcharge of %4 and if I dont feel a must ; tipping on that %4 another minimum suggest %20 will not be payed by myself. Sorrly ; US couldnt pass this must have Tipping culture. So they will get a more far better service from all of the staff. Our waitress was pregnant and so nice (yes if we tipping for only her it is welcome - but kitchen cant pass that exam)
The service was very slow, we waited about 20 minutes for the check. We also ordered bread, but the waiter forgot to bring it. Overall, the taste of the dish was fine.
We had couples night. Our friends have been to this restaurant several times before, and it was my husband & my first time. The location was 2 blocks from La Jolla shores, which was great since we wanted to see the sunset after dinner. We had outdoor dining and the set up was nice. We enjoyed our dinners. My only complaint was that the server was curt and not friendly. He didn’t come by to check on whether we needed anything or how the food was.
Patting is a nice place to have an above average dining experience. We enjoyed eating outside under a large tree. Our waitress was very good. The only thing I was underwhelmed with was the food. It was only above average. I lived in southern Italy years ago, and the Piatti gastronomic experience was a watered-down version of the real thing. The food was good and the portions were excellent, it just didn't take me back to Italy.
The food was pretty good, although I’m not a fan of a pool of sauce at the bottom of the plate. Bread was fresh and chocolate cake was incredible. Service was a tad on the slow side, but they were very friendly. Bruschetta was delicious.
First time at Piatti last night, and I’m unsure if I will return. The Piatti dipping oil was incredible, Gem Lettuce salad was refreshing, and the Piatti Spritz was perfect for a warm evening. However, when our entrees arrived, they were lack luster. The Cannelloni and the Hot Salami pizza were both luke warm at best. Cold food combined with mediocre service lead to a review of 4 stars.
Our family has been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years. The food is still delicious, but I have to be honest—the overall quality has gone down compared to what it used to be. There is an up charge for everything. The staff caters to tourist more than locals. The wine selection is minimal, overpriced, and not as impressive. While we still enjoy dining here, it no longer feels like the five-star experience it once was.
It was good. The people seemed to be very nice, and welcoming. But if you order take out make sure you ask for butter, eatting utensils because my to go plate only had food, but nothing more, or less. You would think that's should be automatic. So four stars. I will try eating here again but to dine in. Maybe everything will be better. I gotta get to that bar. 👍🏾☺😊🤤
A nice Italian food spot near La Jolla Shores. Lots of seating inside the restaurant, in attached patio, and then on street (covid outdoor seating that pretty much became permanent). Dishes were quite flavorful w/ great presentation. The oil and vinegar that came w/ the ciabatta demi-loaf had a nice "bite" to it w/ the addition of crushed peppers. Those that like traditional oil & vinegar may find it too spicy. I liked how the romaine in their caesar salad was cut, almost chopped. Sometimes in salads the greens are too large but these were a nice size. I had the veal picatta in lemon-caper butter sauce w/ mushroom risotto and sauteed spinach. The veal was tender and I love capers, but I thought the serving size of the 2 veal cutlets to be a bit small, almost child proportions. Flavorful in the butter sauce but small. The mushroom risotto cakes were interesting. Made in a triangular shape, my daughter thought they were potato cakes. Could have used more sliced mushrooms. It was maybe a ratio of 25% mushroom to 75% risotto. A nicer ratio might have been 33% mushroom. The sauteed spinach reminded me of how my mom prepared it. Not overly soggy, but just soft enough. The natural tart of the spinach worked well w/ the lemon-caper sauce for the veal. Decided on a non-alcoholic drink and I'd recommend the berry lemonade. Overall, I'd say a nice place for a first date. Good food that would impress your date but won't break the bank, and it's well w/in walking distance to La Jolla Shores to watch the sunset.
My daughters took me to Piatti in La Jolla for my birthday while visiting San Diego. The service was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and the have a very nice outdoor seatings as well. The food was mostly very good, but I ordered Vesuvio and it was a bit on the salty side. The prices are a bit high, but for San Diego, it felt fair. I would go back again.
Service was good, atmosphere was real nice. Most of the food was pretty good, however there were a few things that were off. First, the bread is not complimentary. So when they offer another couple loaves, be wary that they'll be extra. The lemon Bar dessert was pretty subpar for the establishment. Tasted heavily of coconut and very little lemon. Overall decent experience, but for the price, I expected a bit more.

Food was nothing great to write about, but not bad. price was high. Had the pappardelle noodles. Dish was nothing special tasting. Shrimp was good and fresh.
I would have given 2 stars but the bread at the beginning was so good it makes up for a whole star by itself. We came here for brunch and I don't know if today was just a bad potato day or something but half of my group of 7 got dishes with potatoes and they were all equally too crispy and dry. I got the chorizo dish and it was also extremely desiccated. It was very difficult to cut and so tough I could've used it as a weapon :-) The eggs were decent enough but nothing amazing. Having freshly grated pepper and cheese was a nice plus though. We decided on this place for its high rating and good looking menu but left disappointed. Overall the ambience is nice, especially if you sit outside on a nice day, but foodwise for what you get the restaurant is overpriced.
Many tasty food items but shrimp dishes are not one of them. Shrimp are small and tough. Excellent pasta and sauce.
Pizza was ok. We had the hot salami. The other couple thought their vege pizza was over salted. Burrata salad was good.
Hi, I would give this restaurant a 4 star if the service was better. It’s obvious that they do have a good chef, but they need to work on their judgment for serving some unpleasant items that should not be plated. I loved their lasagna (the best) but our crispy calamari looked like frozen packaged calamari, like store bought, covered in a thick though texture cornmeal, very dry and tough to chew,Interestingly, on another visit we notice a gentleman costumer enjoying a beautiful, elegant and fresh looking plate of crispy calamari with light and fluffy coating very delicate looking caramari, so different from our crispy calamari from the previous visit !!. I think I know what happened!, and like to say, I prefer to be informed if a restaurant are out of some items on their menu instead of serving costumers a backup- store bought packaged food nobody could eat. They also served us a very hot bread tasted like old bread that reheated, it was very dry that no amount of butter could help. Service could be good and could be bad. It all depends on your luck! Happy dinning
The food is good but expensive for what you get . There is NO reason to charge extra to sub broccoli or spinach instead of pasta AND the waitress did not tell us it would be extra .

I had always recalled the food here being next level good. But returning after a year I was underwhelmed by the warmish pasta with some sort of sliced sausage. They call cavatappi. The caesar salad…

Service was very good. Food was just ok.we have eaten here for about 8 years. Service is very good and atmosphere is the same. Our dinner just wasn’t very good. Probably won’t come back.
What nonsense is this even!? I am from Europe. I have been all over Italy two dozen times... this food was terrible! -- I had to look up who own this crappy place and the owner is some American dude called Tim Harmon. He has Americanized his entire menu I guess. I have never tasted such bland food - Italians would cry real tears if they tried this. I expected a bit more from such a Restaurant and especially for the price! We picked up the food to go... The Pizza was absolutely NOT Italian anything. NIENTE! No Italian dough nor cooked in a wood burning oven. Very very yeasty tasting dough - was so yeasty that it tasted like Hefeweizen Beer. 🤦🏻♀️ They are definitely not using anything like Caputo flour. Also, $20 of literally a miniature Pizza? 😂 It was maybe 8". What a joke. The pasta with Chicken and Gorgonzola was such a disappointment as well. Very little flavor. No Gorgonzola cheese in sight. Absolutely no seasoning, and Chicken was tasteless (didn't even have any salt on it). Cannelloni - look at the picture! 😂 Zero flavor. Some tomato puree and heavy cream, and that's all. No herbs, no nothing. Owners seem to be the greedy dishonest kind - the portions were tiny. A hand full of pasta maybe and I had three tiny pieces of cut up chicken in my dish. I don't like greed and people who try to rip you off. It's generally a turn off for me with everything . I don't mind paying money for something really good. But not for a handful of crappy tasting pasta. You're not going to run out of business if you add two more pieces of chicken to it and one more spoon of Pasta. I so will send any friends or family the other way - not to this sad place. Do yourself a favor if you want authentic and tasty Italian food and go elsewhere. There are other Italian Restaurants in the area that actually serve fantastic food. I have no idea who cooked this nonsense and where that " chef" is from. I have no clue where the positive reviews even stem from.
I’ve lived in La Jolla Shores for years, and Piatti used to be my go-to restaurant. When Tom was the manager, everything ran like clockwork—the food was consistently good, always available, and the service was impeccable. Since his retirement, however, the quality has noticeably declined. Tonight I went in craving mussels, only to be told they were unavailable and offered clams instead, which is an entirely different dish. I settled on the pappardelle, but some of the shrimp tasted off, almost moldy. The service was mediocre, the food uninspired, and I left feeling disappointed. It’s frustrating to see a once-great restaurant decline like this.
No longer authentic. We’ve come to this place over the years. I’m not sure what happened but whatever this is, it’s not Italian food made by Italians anymore. We had the bolognese, the cavatappi, alfredo, and the pizza. It was some Americanized, watery, spicy, overcooked, canned-sauce-tasting disaster. The ambiance is nice and the service was really good. But not even the kids could eat it. We left almost everything untouched.
Literally spent thousands here over 20 years. Came in today for drinks and the bartender was extremely judgmental and would only serve us if we ordered food. Was very disappointed, had friends with us and after we raved about the restaurant was embarrassed by the bartender. Will be back for food only, will choose other bars in the future. Italians are always ready for fun, food and good drinks...not this time. Too bad, almost heart breaking. Btw, went next door and they had no problem serving us. Had a good time at Shore Rider
I recently dined at Piatti, and unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. From the moment we sat down, the service was slow and unorganized. After placing our order, it took 50 minutes for our food to arrive, which was extremely frustrating. To make matters worse, several tables that were seated after us received their meals before we did, leaving us wondering what was going on in the kitchen aside from them burning our food. The only saving grace of the evening was the busboy, who was attentive and friendly. He kept our water glasses filled and checked in on us far more frequently than our actual server. Without his help, the experience would have been even worse. Because of his excellent service, I’m giving this place two stars instead of just one. On top of the poor service, there were unexpected charges that left a bad taste in our mouths. We were charged an extra $3 for a small side of marinara sauce to pair with our calamari order and another $3 for soda water. At no point were we informed that these items came with an additional cost, which felt like a sneaky way to nickel-and-dime customers. For a restaurant that claims to be a quality Italian establishment, these kinds of surprises are unacceptable. With so many other great Italian restaurants in the area, I won’t be returning here. The long wait, inattentive service, and hidden fees made for a frustrating dining experience, and there are far better options out there that provide both better service and transparency.
This review is really hard to write. We LOVE Piatti. Everything was just AWEFUL. Our waiter Ceasar was clueless. Salad was drenched with dressing. We had to ask for bread. It was stale. Waiter nev…
First time I have a negative experience in the 3 years I’ve been living in SD, I will say that because I’m Latina they were racist on how the hostess treated me and will never go back, and hope the hostess learns to be kind with everyone. I made a reservation for Saturday October 18th for a party of 3 because of my sister’s birthday, since we came in, the hostess saw us different, I felt it, but thought I might be confused about it, didn’t mind and required my table outside. They wen't to check and told me to wait, as they will prepare this for us, considering only 2 tables where occupied It shouldn’t take that long. Well, another 2 white customers came in, and saw her attitude was completely different and passed them right away for a table. I felt awkward, and when she came back, I asked her if my table was ready, as she already passed 2 customers in front of us, well she told me she will check, but even inside, the restaurant was no more than 40% of the capacity. Finally we got a table, but was with direct sun, I told her I didn’t wanted that one, instead if we could take the one behind where the shadow of the umbrella reached us, so with a bad attitude she told me she was going to ask, as this where reserved, but sounded like a joke as only 2 tables from 8 or more where occupied, I wanted to leave, but remembered it was my sisters day and wan't no drama. Finally, she told us to take the table we requested. Thankfully the waitress had a much better attitude, but still, I will never go back to this place.
I don't understand how anyone can serve this food with pride. I'm used to paying $25-$30 pizzas, but they take pride in their work, like an artist. If you are looking for below average food with above average prices, then throw your money away here. I've never had Italian food this bad. Maybe owners need to visit Italy so they can train their taste buds. Come with low expectations.
The food was good, but the service was insanely poor. It took 20 minutes to get water. Even after the restaurant had emptied, we waited for 45 minutes to see our server again. We definitely won’t be back.
