Wow. Did not expect great food. Just average I thought. I was wrong. The Reuben was outstanding and the French fries are even better! Sat at the bar with great service! Beer selection was vast! And cold! Nice change from the never ending Italian food. Which is also good around here!!
Great place. It's not often you fund yourself on little Italy and wind up at British pub. That said, the fish n chips were ok overall. The fish was over the top awesome. With the right amount of batter and a perfect cook. The chips were fine. I didn't order for the chips so no sweat for me, but ymmv.
Stopped by little Italy for a day trip in San Diego during lunchtime. We had a quick stop and break to eat, but we ended up spending three hours here. Drinks were really good and aren’t expensive. Pickled eggs were delicious. We also enjoyed potato wedges, and nachos. Beautiful spot to watch the sunset and hear the people play live music!
I’m from Britain and this was wonderful after being away for so long. Fullers ESB and Old Speckled Hen on tap. Two of my favourite beers. Steak and ale pie one day and a lamb Sunday roast the next. I cook a better Yorkshire pudding but the roast potatoes were very good. Beer was superb. Food was perfect. Sat outside. Service was attentive. Strongly recommend.
Update. The red pozole on wkds is pretty darn good. Good portion and served hot. Also, they make a true hot toddy! Couldn’t find one in the area. Great service. So great that when a shot was ordered for me and I wasn’t done with my last, the waitress made sure I was ok with the order! So kind!! Best fish and chips in town! Great for sports. Plays the sound on the main game and its varied. Boxing, basketball, football etc.
Stopped by for a bite before heading back to hotel. The food was great! Sausage roll was on point. The mustard has quite a BITE too it, and I loved it. Fish and chips was a huge portion! Fish was fried good, and the light and crispy. Fries were thick and seasoned great! Beer was cold and poured right! One bad thing..too many drunks at the bar, and had some asshat rub and bump into me...other than that, fantastic meal!
It feels very much like a true local neighborhood bar — the kind of place where everyone seems to know each other, and you can tell there’s a strong group of regulars. It has that comfortable, familiar vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a community spot rather than a trendy destination. The food is classic, straightforward bar fare. Nothing fancy, but it hits the spot when you’re in the mood for something simple and satisfying. The drinks were solid as well — well made and exactly what you’d expect from a neighborhood bar. Service was attentive and friendly, which really adds to the experience. Overall, a relaxed, no-frills place that does what it’s meant to do.
Had dinner here on a Thursday night. They have a happy hour until 7:00 p.m., so there are many reasonable appetizers at that time. I had potato skins, which were a reasonable 6/7 out of 10, and with the happy hour discount they cost $6. The Cod and chips was massive, absolutely taking up an entire plate. I won't lie and say it was the best I've ever had, but it was good and quite filling. If I was in a fish and chips mood again, I would potentially stop back by.
Great time, relaxing and a fun environment to set yourself in to relax and watch something while grabbing not only drinks but their specialty beer combos. The fish and chips were delectable and wished I had more to enjoy as the fries complimented well for a bar meal. Definitely recommend if you're looking to just sit back and relax with a drink and chatting with some friends
My wife and I stopped by yesterday for happy hour, and found not much in the drink list that was considered a happy hour price. The highlight - beer battered pickle spears. Very good - the pickles were crisp and the batter crispy. It went downhill from there. Service was rushed as if we weren't going to stick around - maybe we didn't fit their demographic. After the drinks and food were dropped off, the check appeared quickly. Two final items - the drink my wife ordered was terrible. It tasted nothing like the name implied. Also, for the beers you could offer at least one of the many craft lights available. Some people require low carbs due to medical conditions. Overall, this place is not worth it. We quickly settled up and to a better bar nearby.
I arrived around 5pm to order the Torilla Soup. Everything was fine EXCEPT that the Soup had No Taste and Flavor……..Also, the Shredded cheese had the old refrigerated taste. The Vibe was Cool and my Waiter was Sweet. I am a Long time Customer so, it’s Not Always like this… so, I’m gonna take out 1 Star…12/17/25 Edit: I had to take another Star out because I called Multiple times their number but their Line was Busy…I had dropped my credit card Somewhere and Needed to Ask if they Found it.
Went for lunch here with a large group. Asked for separate bills- that's a No. Had a gift card, value was taken off the entire bill, then we had to spilt everything by hand. Mandated 35% gratuity for our group of 9. Food was ok, beer was expensive for draught. They were able to seat us together (sometimes an issue). Atmosphere was sort of fun- a little dark inside to really appreciate the decor.
Nothing special - The food and service was ordinary, I had the corned beef hash breakfast and wife had the fried shrimp and chips. The wait was kind of long for the place being empty but our server was very nice while taking some time in between trips. It's a pretty cluttered place and the bathrooms we're kind of gross, it's definitely a place you'd see on "bar rescue" or "kitchen nightmares" (that's the vibe I got from it). But the food was just alright, if you asked me a week from now how it was, I will have probably already forgotten it. For the price, I would have expected better.
My biggest gripe with this overpriced tourist trap is the fact that when my wife ordered a $21 margarita, she tasted it, and turned it back as it was just badly made. The waitress, while expressing some sorrow for the lack of quality, told us to just keep the drink as they couldn’t really take it back. The drink was not taken off of our almost $300 bill for our party of 8. The waitress smugly refused to remove the charge saying that “they’re a small business” and “ they don’t do that”. When we asked to speak to the manager she refused to even get him or her involved. Lesson learned…..tourists beware! I will never darken their doorway again with my business.
Sadly disappointed ☹️ The Harp was cold and good but the food, fish & chips and the steak and ale pie were bland. Food was served hot. The fish was overcooked, greasy and bland. The steak and ale pie consisted of mostly carrots and wee little bits of meat and a gravy that was missing any real flavor let alone ale. The “pie” was served with good mashed potatoes and some sad peas with more carrots. Both dishes required a lot of salt and pepper. The service? I get it if it was busy but the place was far from busy. The server, less than enthusiastic. We had to ask for a food menu at lunchtime. We had to ask for our check then we had to take our check to the bartender. Skip the food but go for a beer.
Princess Pub & Grill was a little disappointing to me. Everything there was just barely OK. I had tortilla soup which was OK but not something I would go back for. The Guinness beer was about the best thing there. The atmosphere was not happening at 9pm on a Monday night in March. I've been to other bar/grills in San Diego that can get packed on Monday nights, even in March. Not this one. Very blah! The service was good, but again not spectacular. For a pub in San Diego, this one lacks substance & now I know I'd rather go to one like Shakespeare off Washington & India street.
If you want dog food with flat beer, this is the place to go. I've visited multiple times, and the quality of everything is absolutely horrible. I'd be surprised if His Majesty didn't personally close this place down and leave on a double-decker bus. God awful, don't go here, because I won't.
Sat at bar. Bartender too busy on her phone and talking to her friends to take anyone else's order. Got a beer and a menu and proceeded to wait 30 minutes before I could get her attention. Left to go eat somewhere else.
Celebrating our anniversary is San Diego. Disappointing Experience from Start to Finish We visited the Princess Pub and Grill hoping for a nice dinner, but unfortunately, our experience was poor from the moment we arrived. Before we could even enter the restaurant, two customers were blocking the entrance while allowing their pet dogs to play and roll around together. A man wearing a security shirt was sitting nearby on a stool but said nothing as we waited. We had to ask the customers to move so we could pass. My husband has a service dog, and while the customers assured us their dogs were friendly, service dogs shouldn’t interact with other dogs while working. It was concerning that security didn’t intervene or help manage the entrance. Once inside, we found the seating was self-serve. The table we chose was dirty, so we asked someone to wipe it down. Our waiter—a tall, slender older gentleman who never introduced himself—handed us menus and immediately asked if we were ready to order. When we explained we’d never been there before and needed time to look at the menu, his demeanor remained rushed and impatient. The restaurant was much louder and busier than anticipated, which was overwhelming. We decided to order our food to go instead of staying. From the start, our waiter seemed to have a negative attitude toward us. He was short with us, spoke down to us, and rushed us through ordering rather than offering any helpful suggestions about the menu. When our waiter brought our to-go order, it came with no plastic utensils, no napkins, and my husband never hit a to go lemonade. There was no ketchup for the fries or malt vinegar for the fish. Every time we tried to ask for these items, our waiter would disappear before we could speak. When he returned with the check, he left again immediately. Unable to get his attention for what we needed and knowing we’d just find a quiet table outside, we took the malt vinegar bottle with us. As we were finishing our meal and cleaning up—before we had a chance to return the vinegar—security and our waiter approached our table, grabbed the bottle, and walked away. The waiter simply said, “Seriously?” Later, as we were walking back to our hotel after getting ice cream at a nearby shop, we happened to pass our waiter on the street. He looked directly at my husband and called him a “cheap bastard.” When Shawn asked why he would say that, I explained that I hadn’t left a tip. This wasn’t about being cheap—I had tipped our tattoo artist generously earlier that day and tipped the ice cream shop employee who gave us a wonderful recommendation. But this waiter provided poor service from beginning to end and then verbally harassed us after we left the restaurant. That kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. I have had better service at Olive Garden or Texas Roadhouse. I cannot recommend the Princess Pub and Grill based on this experience.
The only thing authentic about this place was waiters teeth. A square piece of processed "fish" that looked like an oversized McDonalds hash brown with the same mushy consistency. Served with "chips" covered seasoned salt accompanied by a lemon burnt on top. This place has fooled many a reviewer in here who think they receive traditional English fish and chip. Better off going to Long John Silvers. It's fraudulent to serve that and call it fish and chips in a wanna be "British pub."
