No frills place for a quick lunch…..slices had good flavor, garlic knots were good but got a little crispy getting warmed up. Service was fast and friendly. I’ll be back

Pizza was delicious but customer service is what I appreciated. They were slow due to covid and were going to close early when my order came it. They called me right away to let me know when it would be ready. Awesome owner. I will come back the next time I'm there

Some of the best pizza ive ever had. Im actually confused about the worse reviews on here. I ordered 2 pizzas wings and garlic knots, and even with a little bit of a wait, everything was still nice and hot and everything was delicious. Definitely a hidden gem.

Just moved to San Diego 2 days ago, I almost didn’t walk in this place Bc of all the reviews, but I’m glad I listened to my gut & tried it out still. All team members & Tony himself were welcoming & fun to talk to. The pizza is the complete opposite of all the other reviews.

I was walking down the street in the Gaslamp district and saw this really cool sign for Tony's Pizza that reminded me of classic Italian places on the East Coast where I'm from. I was greeted by a really nice and professional man at the counter who turned out to be the Owner, Brent(points for that because of all the chains now with employees that don't care about their business and absentee owners who are just about their "investment" or tax write off). I was really hungry and had the Pizza large supreme and Stromboli. The cheese, crust were amazing and the tangy, super flavorful sauce was phenomenal. I am not a big eater but basically devoured the huge pizza in a short time because it was so good and I was so hungry. The stromboli and zucchini sticks were also outstanding and large portions. They even had my favorite blue powerade from the drink machine. They deliver and do takeout and are very busy on the weekends as word gets out about the great pizza. I think Tony's is the best pizza restaurant in downtown san diego. Highly recommended.

Pizza this good by the slice have very few competitors when it comes to awesome taste. Friendly staff, chill atmosphere, great location for late night munchies, totally worth the drive if not from the immediate area!

Tony's Pizza is now my go to spot for Down Town. The slice's were freshly made, service was great, tables were clean and they're OPEN LATE. Great spot for anyone looking for a quick bite or picking up a big order.

Came here on a whim with a friend. Darrell ran everything (pizza maker, cashier, etc.) and was extremely welcoming and patient (we took a while to decide what we wanted). On display were 16 pizza options to buy as slices with more available to purchase as whole pies, to include specials. Had a slice of the Maggy (tomato and spinach) and a slice of the Buffalo Chicken. Both were freshly made. Great crispy crust. Was very tempted to get a 3rd slice after. The vibe of Tony's is casual and cozy. It has an open-air feel with the door and the bay window shutters pushed back, despite the small interior. Music of choice is uncensored rap and R&B with the corresponding music videos playing on a small TV screen on the front wall. Will definitely return.

Stromboli was out of this world. Prices not bad for San Diego. On a personal note, all the music was uncut so it was cursing galore. This is not a bar, this is a restaurant. That is my only complaint.

Pretty damn good pizza. Lots of slice variety. Glad I walked in. I had a "Brewski" which is a basic pepperoni & cheese slice with a generous amount of sausage and ricotta cheese on top.

we were greeted by the owner. it was nice to see him in action putting in work I really respect and appreciate that they had a good selection of pizza toppings and choices. FYI no bathroom no water to drink as well only Fountain drinks. Good music selection playing while we sat and ate our food. Two slices of pizza and a fountain drink for $8 you can't beat that

Absolutely the best! Great customer service , great atmosphere. Was craving food late at night Tony's is the only place where you can get a variety of food that's not processed and from the freezer to the warmer. Made fresh right their on the spot! And Darrell was a delight great customer service. will definitely recommend this place and be back myself

Pizza was pretty good and available quickly. They also have some sandwiches, salads, and stroms. Seating is a little limited but we didn't have any trouble. Would recommend for a quick bite.

From out of town staying on vacation.. Ordered pizza and wings and like any other pizza place it took 40mins for delivery the guy was nice and quick our food was bomb the pizza was on point for us and the wings...no complaints on food. But Guy on phone sounded so miserable but that's ok our food was good...

Honestly, I vaguely remember this place. After drinking on the town we stumbled upon this place looking for food. I ordered a slice of veggie and my boyfriend ordered the bbq chicken. We also had some bbq wings and teriyaki wings. I do remember the wings because we ate them the next morning and they were yummy. I would return, sober this time.

Got the job done, needed some food before a night out. This was the closest place to our hotel. Got a slice of Chicken Pesto and Buffalo Chicken. They had a 2 slice with a glass of beer deal so I took advantage of that. Overall cannot complain and did its job.

Oh my goodness you guys. I was craving pizza when we decided to walk around downtown after 2 days of thanksgiving leftovers. I told my friends I want a good pizza though, crispy, crunchy and salty. We rounded a corner and there was Tony's. 8 bucks for two pieces and a soda. They had so many to choose from. I had the near lovers. You pick what you want and they stick them in the pizza oven to warm it up. Boy did they deliver. Hot, crunchy and great toppings. Service was fast and friendly. We sat outside to people watch as we ate. Awesome surprise, just a small little place. Reminded us all of New York!

Made the walk from the convention center for lunch. I had to walk past a few places to find a price point to stay under my company's per diem. 2 slices and a soda combo? Perfect! Staff was very friendly, food was good. Slices could have been a little warmer, but flavors were good. Music as others have noted, was not family friendly, not that I minded, but just confirming what others have said. Thanks for lunch!

I ordered a double slice of buffalo chicken but it was good, then somehow an hour later I got bad stomach or even feel nauseous with pizzas that I ordered. Like I said the pizza was good.

Great super late hours - downtown revellers stop in here after comedy club MadHouse down the street, or after electronica club Bassmt across the street, or after bars, dancing what not. Rated 3 stars for (1) smallish pizza slices by the slice, and (2) cashier gal took my money for two slices, however, then I had to remind the oven guy twice to get them started warming up after waiting a long time each time. Poor communication and work flow. (Maybe because it was so late at night, workers tired I'm guessing?) Taste was decent but needs improvement. Mgmt responded to my GOOG Maps review so it seems they're on top of issues.

$5 slices waaay better than that place on 5th. Meat slice was generous. This 2nd time slice was $6? Umm ok. Guy was mad smug and weird this time. Sorry Tony your $5 price is baloney.

This place has solid pizza, and you should know that. I would highly advise against ordering delivery through an app though, as it was the most frustrating delivery experience of my life. Around 10:30 PM, we were hungry and my wife and I decided we wanted pizza. We choose Tony’s because of the fast delivery time on DoorDash (23 minutes) and the proximity to us. (8 blocks away) I didn’t hear anything for an hour, they hadn’t even confirmed our order on DoorDash. When I called, I felt brushed off. I was told they had received my order, but didn’t know anything about when it would even be made. When I asked about cancelling since it was taking so long, I was told I had to do so through the app. The app won’t let you do anything until the order is completed so I accepted that I just had to wait out, and the delivery window kept getting pushed farther and farther out. They finally confirmed the order around midnight and it kept saying they were 5-8 minutes out. Around 1 AM, I’m getting tired and call, but only get a busy signal, twice. At 1:15 AM, Tony’s marked the order as completed. I checked the lobby and nothing was there. Tired and frustrated, I let DoorDash know I didn’t receive my order and decided to go to sleep. At 1:38 AM I get a phone call asking if I can meet in the lobby for my pizza. So I get out of bed and go get it. The delivery guy was nice and the pizza was warm but wow… I get that they’re getting lots of different orders and it’s a Saturday night in SD but man that was rough. Maybe figure out a smoother delivery system?

Was closed at 00:15, hours were until 0100 am. Called early, said theybwere open til 0100. Walked a mile, closed. B.S. hours posted, can't be trusted. Have eaten here before, pizza and wings were very good, great place to grab food for late night local bars whose kitchens are closed... I thought. Seems you have to call them 5 min before visiting to be sure they will ne open...

If you are looking for a place where you can pay top dollar for a new york style slice, this is your place! So expensive!! But hey, late night your options are limited, and they know it. The pizza is solid just not worth $7+

J
Johnathan

Really good food at a great price. The problem is staffing. Little to no slices available on Tuesday special night, one staff member seems overwhelmed and obsessed with deliveries while customers wait to order. I left tonight after passing up the competition to come to this spot. I will go pay extra just to be taken care of with variety.

This place is never open!!! The pizza actually isn't bad. You gotta buy by the slice if you want the best taste. But they obvious don't like making money or working since they only open 2 days a week now. Might as well not me open

D
Debra Lynn Baker

Maybe i am biased because i come from a good pizza town but this was flavorless. Okay texture at least. $5 a slice which seems crazy expensive to me but it was still the cheapest i could find in the area so i can't really knock them for that. I know rent is expensive. These things are l no big deal though, the reason i am giving a bad review is because the Owners are not just COVID deniers but are are openly rude about it.

One of my favorite places until the last 2 weeks not feeling the staff change. I visit this spot at least once a week. The wings got a little bland and the pizza it’s self has been doughy. The new guy is weird and not that personal. The red head, darrell, and the big guy have been killing it for the last year. Not sure if the new dude is the manager but his food is trash. Bring the crew back please

Worst pizza I have ever had in my life. Ordered from grub hub the driver got there and my order wasn’t wasn’t ready. So I suppose he rushed the pizza. Get the pizza the cheese doesn’t even stick to the barley cooked soggy dough that was an attempt at cooking. Also ordered the wings and asked for extra crispy , opened them up and feels like he had collected all the Goodyear tires from a nascar event and through that in a box. If I wanted to order a rubber chew toy I mise have went to pet smart. Never order for this place. I wouldn’t feed this to my worst enemy.

N
Nicholas Pinkston

Don’t order from this company. Unfortunately, two employees hung up on me as I tried to understand why they advertised 5-25-min on UberEats but upon order it jumped to 90-min. When I canceled within 1-min, I was charged the full $30, and don’t understand why I wasn’t refunded or provided a product. I was calm and polite, but both Both Tony’s Pizza employees were hostile and hung up on me. I believe there is a SCAM happening, between this company Tony’s pizza and Uber Eats

K

I really want a zero rating here. I should know better than ordering a burger and fried zucchini from a pizza joint. Truth is, my favorite Mexican restaurant (La Fuente in Hillcrest) makes the BEST burgers. I ordered from Tony's Pizza for the first and ABSOLUTELY last time, only because they deliver. Fried zucchini was mushy and tasted like 5-day old oil. And the burger was super dry and sweet. Gross! And then they had the nerve to blame the delivery service. So sorry. Bad food is bad food. And I am really not a fussy eater! Also, this is the first review I have ever written. (That says something.) I am trying to get a refund, and, not surprising, I am getting the run-around. I hope Tony's "pizza" is better. But I won't ever try it. I will stick with La Fuente for my burgers from now on. Even though they don't deliver.

The pizza was supposed to be here between 10p and 1010p. I had to call and ask for my pizza at 1020am. They didn't even realize I had an order. They then said it will be there in 10 to 15 minute's. Well I called back about 1040pm and they said o he walked out the door to give you the pizza. Ok great. So should I believe it this time?

j
jonathan flores

I think the employees need to work as a team more, I came in to pick up a delivery order that was supposed to be ready already, instead they started making it once I arrived, I understand if your busy , but people pre-order ahead for a reason. All three of the employees were jumping back and forth, completely chaotic. I canceled the order hopefully it was ready by the time the next postmates arrived. Read the other reviews if you don’t believe me they are rude and unprofessional I had to force them to acknowledge me, this place does not care about delivery orders and it’s so blatant and obvious.

b

ordered through grubhub. i had the spaghetti and my friend had the meatball sub & a coke. my spaghetti was fine, but the meatball sub was cold, soggy, and the cheese on it had never been melted. they advertise a 20 oz coke, but he received a 12 oz can. he was absolutely disappointed and could not finish the meal. will be filing a complaint with grubhub, also.

Ordered pizza at 12:02am and received an estimated delivery time between 1:10-1:30am. We waited till they closed at 3am, yet no pizza. Took about 15 minutes of calling around the next day to SLICE who processes their orders and got a refund.

C

Ordered the pizza 2 hours ago because if the 5-25 minute deliver time - They immediate changed the delivery time to over an hour away Then, they missed the time, didn't deliver anything, I called twice, the first time they lied and made excuses, the 2nd time they were rude. Still no food. Now going to McDonalds at 2:42 AM

I ordered through doordash just a sandwich, fries and a drink.. it took 1.5 hour before i called the delivery guy and told me that the restaurant is not busy at all, but they made him wait. I called the restaurant and the guy was unprofessional and rude. When i finally received the order i didn’t get the fries or the soda and the sandwich tasted so bad that i got food poisoning. Never again

Worst pizza I have ever had delivered. Period. Ordered at 8:02 got delivered at 9:34. Pizza is so burnt that when you touch the crust it disintegrates like when you touch a piece of ash in a fire. Called back to get my money back and the best they could do was make me another one. When I asked how long they told me it’s busy so a little over an hour. So I’ll get a pizza at 11 when I ordered it at 8 PM. Never go here unless your walking in and grabbing a slice.

Average food, but they're going to not deliver your food on about half of the times you order. You'll call, after having waited an hour and change for them to get moving and they'll apologize and give you a refund. Which means that now you have to figure something else out for food. Have fun waiting another hour because no one wants to take any kind of responsibility. "We're busy" "We only have two drivers", yeah, that's how pizza places work. Literally every other pizza place in the city manages without issue. Order from one of them.

J

Ordered food from here on GrubHub for a small group of people. Not only were they 30 minutes late in delivering our order (with no communication) but: 1) Not all of the food we ordered was delivered 2) The pizza crust on both of our pizzas was burnt. We didn’t even bother eating one of the pizzas. The other was mediocre at best 3) The fries were not fully cooked 4) The mozzarella sticks were barely cooked 5) Like a previous poster, the meatball sub we ordered was cold and unappetizing Would not recommend this place in any way shape or form.

A

Incredibly awful. Worse than little Caesar’s. Do not come here. The crust was tougher than a timberland boot but has the structural integrity of a tissue. Nothing about this place is good.

I wouldn’t recommend this place even to people I don’t like. Ordered once and never again, even though Tony passive aggressively offered another pizza. I don’t want it even if it’s free. Came with a burnt crust and soggy toppings, but I was informed by the owner, Tony, that this isn’t possible (it is, I can assure you). A few small side items were entirely forgotten. He refused to refund, claimed the store was busy and that he checks ever pizza himself. This all may be true, and if so, it’s just a bad business churning out very mediocre Italian food.

k
katherine saechao

Visiting from Portland, OR and having pregnancy cravings, this place Looked good. Well my husband and I didn’t get our food for about 1 1/2 hours later so my husband called the store and asked if he could just walk to the store and pick it up himself knowing I have low blood pressure and again am pregnant, lol. They said driver already left with our food but we waited another hour. When we got the food his spaghetti sauce tasted old and was burnt like they had microwaved it, couldn’t bite through my chicken sandwich, no dressing for my salad. And now I can’t order anything to eat because everything is closed until the morning

C

Placed an order through postmates at 9:48pm. Wait time for delivery was 80-90 minutes. I received a call from the postmates delivery person at 11:13pm letting me know that he had been informed by Tony’s that the pizza had been sold. I guess the interpretation is that they had made my pizza and then sold it to someone else? The delivery person asked how long it would take to make a new pizza and he was informed that it would be 30 minutes “if he was lucky.” He let me know the restaurant asked for him to let me know and request that I cancel the order. Very disappointing to have waited almost an hour and a half to be informed that no food would be delivered and very unprofessional to not attempt to make the situation right, nor submit the cancellation on their end, potentially exposing me to cancellation fees. Will not be ordering from this establishment again. Based on another review from another person who ordered delivery, this restaurant has poor customer service around messed up orders.

Incredibly awful. Worse than little Caesar’s. Do not come here. The crust was tougher than a timberland boot but has the structural integrity of a tissue. Nothing about this place is good.

Placed an order through postmates at 9:48pm. Wait time for delivery was 80-90 minutes.
