Opinions de Tora Tora Sushi Specialist San Diego
A very tiny place with lots of potential and great food. It's more like sushi express but with full meals and side dishes. To go orders available. Clean. The service is beyond excellent. Only a couple of minutes between the time ordered and served. The lady was very polite and nice. Probably no rest room, if there is, it was hidden. Outdoor seating. Small tables. Cozy. Easy to order. Some of the meals are customizable.
SO phenomenal & fairly priced, the lemon cilantro specialty roll was truly to die for & the garlic pepper tuna specialty roll was delicious as well. plus the crunchy class roll & the shrimp tempura classic roll were perfectly done, overall so delicious & i can't wait to go back went back again & took more pictures & attached those here(:
Ordered for takeout and the staff were nice. The restaurant is clean and I love the mural! The food is super fresh and tasty. I highly recommend. The baked sushi is the best baked sushi I've ever gotten and their nigiri is soo good it melts in your mouth.
Food: 4.5/5 Service and Setting: 4.5/5 Value: 3.5/5 Tora Tora is the newest sushi restaurant that has opened up in Mira Mesa and they make great sushi. The interior of the restaurant is modern and clean, showing some personality with Funko figures hidden around the register area. To me, the dining area is chic while not being sterile, an issue that many restaurants have when going this direction. I find the seating situation to be awkward, but that is nitpicking at this point. The lady at the register was super kind and chill. When I asked her if the squid legs were made in house she just straight up said no and same with a couple other items I asked about. I appreciate her for being real and letting me try items that they craft themselves! Salmon Belly Truffle: 5/5 This truly amazed me. At it’s price point, I was not expecting much. The fish was so soft and fresh while having a luxurious truffle flavor. The main star of the show was the rice though. This is something I would expect in an omakase only level restaurant. It was the perfect temperature and texture, each grain of rice bouncy yet soft like a mini piece of rice cake. The rice was lightly seasoned and made the roll impossibly delicious. If they are consistent with their rice, they will probably be one of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego at any price point. My favorite so far and a very opulent experience. Baked Dynamite: 5/5 Again, high quality ingredients. What impressed me the most was that the dynamite sauce they used tasted very faintly of mayo and had a wonderfully light umami flavor. The seafood used in the dynamite, though they are scrap pieces for sure, are of high quality and fresh. Scallops, end pieces of fish, and I’m sure whatever else they have are respectfully cooked, holding the integrity of the ingredients and their flavors. They purposely do not use things like onions that are used to mask poor quality or old seafood and I 100% appreciate that. Must get. Miso Soup: 2/5 Standard miso soup. Came out pretty cold and meh. It was a nice accompaniment to the sushi though. Wasabi Mac’ Salad: 1.5/5 Tasted like grocery market mac salad with sour wasabi. I wish they tried harder on this for sure. Green Tea Tiramisu: 3.5/5 I got the inside scoop that they do not make this in store, but it was good! The matcha was light and not bitter. It was not overly sweet and felt cohesive, a word that is not familiar to many fusion desserts. I probably would give this a solid 4, but it was frozen solid so it tasted a bit dry since the lady fingers at the bottom did not have a chance to hydrate. A solid dessert if you wanted a complete experience here!
Parking: We had dinner at 8pm on a Friday and there were plenty of parking in the shopping plaza Ambience: Loud, upbeat. Great for take outs but a bit too small to dine in with more than 2 people Service: The service was Amazing! Very attentive and love the follow ups. Food: y of the freshest Sushi ever I’ve had Supports Military: No Discount Overall: Both food and service was on point here. I would definitely recommend and return to try more items on their menu.
This has become one of my favorite sushi places. The prices are very fair, especially for the great quality you get. Loved the presentation. We got the nigiri, salmon truffle roll, and mango habanero albacore roll with garlic fried rice and miso soup. Everything was, hands down, incredible. The nigiri was of great quality. Our friend got the baked dynamite, wasabi mac, and seaweed salad. We finished everything. It's a great take-out place as well.
This was our first time coming to Tora Tora and this is my new favorite spot hands down. The sushi was so fresh and flavorful, the staff was kind, and overall the price was amazing for the quality you get!! Each roll had such a unique taste and the fish was so fresh. We ordered the coconut ghost pepper roll (very spicy we loved it so be cautious if you can't handle heat), seared salmon roll, salmon belly truffle, and the mango habanero. As someone with a severe sesame allergy, they were very accommodating and made sure none of the rolls had any sesame oils/seeds. I highly recommend this and I'll be coming back asap!
The food was great! We tried their new watermelon soda, it was delicious, perfect amount of sweetness and high quality ice cream. Service was great too!
This place is awesome. For $25 I got a variety of nigiri and two “side kicks”. I was impressed with the variety and presentation of the nigiri. I felt for $25 to include uni and scallop among other pieces with two big sides was a great deal. The squid had mint leaf I believe which was a first for me and the best way I’ve ever had it. It also came with the real wasabi. Not the cheap stuff. 👌 I got a side of wasabi Mac salad which was another first and it was delish. The seaweed salad was great, then I got some takoyaki as an app for my son and I. Overall, 8/10 would recommend to friends.
very tasty and convenient location. we went on a thursday evening around 6pm - it was t too crowded. the seating inside (about 10 people) and outside (about 10 people) is fairly limited. we ordered the curry chicken karaage, salmon belly truffle, sweet onion salmon, protein punch, and philadelphia roll. sweet onion was my favorite. the salmon belly is good but because of the truffle oil can get a little rich if you’re eating more than 3 pieces. curry chicken karaage was solid and the protein punch was good just $$. our friends ordered the garlic spicy edamame, lemon cilantro, blood orange tuna, and wasabi yuzu yellowtail. parking is ample since it’s near hobby lobby and target. seemed like about half of the people were getting it to go. if you order done in, they bring your order to you. I’ll be back 🙂
This place is so good! I was so surprised this little kiosk store has amazing sashimi and gluten free soy sauce! Will be back.
Nice place if you want sushi and don’t have enough time. I like the size of sushi - right for one bite. Will come again!

I ordered carry out by phone and the staff was very very helpful, we had two specialty rolls and their sashimi platter Which had 12 pieces, the rolls were medium in size, but delicious and the edamame spicy style was excellent Price was mid range good value
I just tried this place for the first time not too long ago and have been back about 4 times. Each visit has been great. The sushi is always fresh, and the service is excellent. I think the woman who's usually working is probably the manager or one of the owners. I'm always greeted right away and asked how my day is going. I usually order takeout, and the presentation has consistently been clean and good. I love how they package the wasabi and ginger in separate plastic containers. My go-to choices are the Spicy Garlic Edamame and any of their rolls.

I got take out, so I can't comment on service or atmosphere, but I thought the food was perfect! Excellent quality sushi.
Good food, fresh and hot. The price is very reasonable. I wish there were more Sashimi options. Mostly bowl options. Small seating space inside. I think this place is more of a pick up food location. But there was no wait for us on Friday night. Plenty of parking. And the staff are top notch.
Really good food! Wish the restaurant was a little bigger, but they make the most of their space. Blood orange roll was delicious!

I come here often to get crunchy roll, California roll, mango habanero roll and gyoza. The service has been consistent . It’s a small restaurant with unique decor. There’s plenty of parking out front. I’ll continue to go back when i crave some crunchy rolls.

The sushi here is incredible which is why I keep coming back. However, it seems that the chef doesn’t even know their own menu. The past four times I’ve been here, they’ve gotten at least one thing wrong every single time. Sometimes it’s even wrong on the second time. It’s extremely frustrating but the staff is always accommodating to fixing the issue. I just wish they would do a better job at checking to see if the rolls are correct so I wouldn’t have to. I’ll keep coming back because the food is fantastic, but I hope they’ll fix this issue in the future.

Unfortunately had my WORST experience here to date. I asked for extra cucumbers added to my California roll (which was noted on the receipt, but there were no cucumbers in the roll at all). I also ordered the "Premium Wasabi" for $3 and got less than a teaspoon... It didn't even cover the bottom of the condiment cup...

My boyfriend decided to take me out for a nice sushi lunch here at tora tora. We’ve been here before in the past, and I wish we went more back then. The reason is because they changed their menu. And not for the better. The menu isn’t cute anymore, there’s very limited “sides”. They got rid of the corn cheese which I loved. We ordered their sashimi set. Which wasn’t much food at all for us to share. And they added on a salad, miso soup, and maki roll. The salad was okay? Miso soup is as expected, and the maki roll (which is a plain ol cucumber roll) had mint. Which wasn’t good in my opinion. This all costed $40 with the tip. My boyfriend got a stomach ache and I couldn’t tell you from which sushi. Their salmon is good, though. Anyway I went next door to golden chopsticks and for a fraction of the price and ALOT of food we were more satisfied. Bummer about the menu change. Try adding more interesting items at a better price. Thank you
I do not know how I can express my frustration. I am so angry after had their food. I ordered 100+ uber eat and never had this experience before. Ordered 4 rolls with sashimi salad. There was a bite on the crispy fish skin on salad. It was disgusting and I could not believe what I saw. I was so angry and called the store right away. I dont care what excuse they have. They should not be in this bussiness. Worst ever experience.
