Tip: Try the ice oat milk latte for a creamy, not-too-sweet option. Buying beans in bulk is also a good idea, as they are sourced and roasted knowledgeably.

Opinions de Zumbar Coffee & Tea San Diego
Great coffee! They roast their own beans and you can tell that a lot of care goes into everything they do. Their Hummingbird blend is outstanding. I always prefer to get coffee from a shop that roasts their own beans and have been to most of the coffee rosters in San Diego. Zumbar is among my favorites. If you’re in the area, this is a great spot.
We’ve been twice now and both times the espresso was great, well balanced and smooth both in taste and in caffeine spike. It’s so hard to find a well pulled shot at a coffee shop, my partner also loves their cold brew. We will be back many more times!
Superb coffee! Im very much strictly a coffee and milk person, and that is done extremely well here. The buttery/velvety feel of there espresso is very unique and wont be found from other specialty shops in SD. My home espresso machine (barista express) is able to pull consistent shots from their espresso blend. Always a treat to stop by.
I travel a lot and when visiting a city a do a lot of research before choosing a coffee shop. I'm a big espresso enthusiast! After a long conversation with Gemini AI, I decided on Zumbar and they did not disappoint. I've traveled all over the world and I can honestly say this is the best espresso I've ever experienced. It was strong, sweet and thick with the most beautiful dark crema I've ever seen. The oils in the bottom of the cup speak for themselves! The young women working behind the counter were delightful. I"ll be back today, and every time I'm in the area.
I ended up not going to this place. I did buy one of their bags of coffee at Bay Park coffee. I got the hummingbird, which is a whole bean coffee and very delicious! ☕
Nice coffee shop with great coffee and lovely outdoor seating that gets the morning sun! I really like that people actually sit, read a newspaper or work on their laptop. The only downside is that the outdoor seating is quite close to the parking lot, but overall it’s still a great spot to enjoy your coffee.
Zumbar Coffee & Tea may be a little off the beaten path, but it's a true gem. This is our go-to spot when we have family and friends visiting from out of town. The atmosphere is fantastic, with locals enjoying their laptops, books, and friendly conversations—it feels like a classic coffee shop that genuinely cares about its customers. The staff is friendly, and the coffee is consistently great. Five stars!"
Great coffee shop. The roasted coffee for sale is high quality and the drinks in shop were great. Customer service and atmosphere were also good. Food does not seem to be their main priority, but overall I really enjoy this place.
Other than the strange location, busted up road, tiny parking lot, and train traffic, this place is awesome! They roast the beans at this location which is huge for me, and they actually know how to roast. It’s like fresh bread, just bc you have an oven doesn’t mean you can make bread. Yet they do know how to pull an espresso, so I approve. I just feel like they are just waiting for a prime lease to open up in LJ or Del Mar to let the world know they’ve arrived.
Oh, where do I begin with Zumbar Coffee & Tea? The staff and atmosphere are absolutely top-notch, earning a solid five-star rating without a doubt. The moment you step in, you're embraced with warm hospitality that feels like a friendly coffee hug. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy your favorite brew. Now, about the latte... *sigh* Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the rest of the experience. I must be honest; I was left disappointed with the latte, as it tasted more like 90% milk than the rich, robust coffee goodness I was hoping for. It lacked that strong espresso kick that makes a latte truly memorable. A latte with too much milk can feel like drowning your coffee dreams, and that's what happened here. However, despite the latte hiccup, I would still encourage you to visit Zumbar Coffee & Tea for the exceptional staff and inviting atmosphere. Their dedication to service and creating a welcoming space deserves all the stars. Who knows, maybe they can work some magic on the latte front in the future. But for now, stick to their other offerings and bask in the positive vibes they effortlessly deliver. Here's to hoping for a better latte experience next time!
I searched “espresso near me” and found this proposal a short drive away from UCSD campus (1 exit off I-5) and it was worthy it. Delicious macchiato, cappuccino. Pretty generous baked good offerings for a small coffee shop. But the rating is for the coffee products only. [Revisit 6/2022, bought some beans]
I sometimes forget how satisfying and filling a cappuccino paired with a croissant really is. COVID destroyed my morning coffee/croissant runs, but I am so glad that Zumbar does takeout so that I can still get some semblance of normalcy. My friend and I shared these two croissants (almond and regular). I also had a cappuccino, and he had a latte. Coffee content was solid as always, albeit the prices have slightly increased (understandable as local businesses have been severely affected by the quarantine orders). Even then, this is a place to continue supporting during times like these!
A little of a drive to get to this coffee place and also a little confusing because there are like 3 different coffe places together... It is a nice place, gives me jungle cruise movie vibes 😅 I got the honey latte with oatmilk and it was ok, not a huge fan, but I got the cranberry bread and that was delish. Service is ok, not as friendly. To me is a 6/10.
Zumbar Coffee, they know how to roast! Better yet, they know how to froth their almond milk! Super rich tight foam aerated to perfection. They expedite the line well to move you through, which I appreciated in the morning. They are located in a strip mall, so the ambience is not the greatest. Outdoor seating consists of a few tables, but it is loud due to the freeway proximity. When I'm in town I frequent the establishment because their coffee is intense, smooth with just a hint of bright notes. They do have pastries, but nothing really for specialty diets.
The cup of coffee was wonderful, and the staff was friendly and informative. The barista shared a brief difference between the two different kinds of freshly brewed coffee. This was helpful. I found the coffee shop small, with limited indoor and outdoor seating. It was a challenging environment to read and ponder, which is what I was looking for. However, there were several people at Zumbar enjoying themselves.
We were excited to try it because it had good reviews online and we are big coffee people. The espresso and latte were not palatable.
