Opinions de Shoshin Sushi San Francisco
We just moved into the neighborhood and have been trying out new local restaurants — and wow, we’re so glad we found this place! This was our second time coming in, and it honestly reminded us why we couldn’t wait to come back. The food is fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. You can taste the difference — they even use real crab, which is one of the many reasons we love it here. Everything we’ve tried so far has been delicious and perfectly cooked. The service makes the experience even better. Kyle and Jennifer were both so friendly, attentive, and full of great energy. They really made us feel welcome. In the kitchen, Chefs Gary and Jimmy bring not only amazing cooking skills but also great humor and personality — you can feel how much they care about what they do. There’s something about this place that just feels like home — warm, relaxed, and full of good vibes. It’s definitely become one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood, and we can’t wait to come back again soon!
This place is incredible. They have the best sushi in the Richmond. Also, the service is fantastic. Huge shout out to Kyle. He was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the Daigo Shot and Sashimi omakase.
Lovely neighborhood gem. We enjoyed the happy hour options and a variety of Nigiri. The Saba, Hamachi, and Chutoro were excellent quality for the price. Will definitely be back!
The freshness of the fish enhances every bite, making it truly delicious. The exceptional service elevates the entire dining experience. It's wonderful to find such delightful food and service. This combination creates a truly memorable meal. Definitely will return next time I visit SF.
Some of the best sushi I’ve had in San Francisco quite some time. The staff are all very friendly and the food comes out quickly, and the menu is very creative. Make sure you order the mochi ice cream.
Best kept secret in SF; super fresh fish, homemade pickles and wasabi. Authentic sushi and intimate, friendly personal service
Long overdue review. Great happy hour, fresh fish and the chef has offered us fresh wasabi, best I’ve ever had. It’s a cozy spot with great vibes all around.
THIS is a traditional-style sushi restaurant with a traditionally-trained (and very experienced) chef at the helm and I am so happy for that! For those who understand the interactive aspect of sushi eating, this is YOUR place to check out. Gary-san is willing to share with those who know how to appreciate the culture and artistry beyond just coming in to dine (which is fine too if you’re looking for good value as well). The fish is all so fresh and delicious - they have a daily special menu with items directly shipped from Japan so you’re getting the same quality as you would there. I love saba (mackrel) and it was amazing so I’ll share my analysis: not fishy at all, a subtle and wonderfully complex flavor, with a pleasing texture that I look for in high-quality saba. In short, each fish we had was so distinct and had wonderful character. We loved everything so much we entrusted him as well to recommend three items by the evening’s end. A final remark: the tamago (egg) was so unique and one of the few places that I’ve seen done in the cake-style. It was a great way to end the meal, which was all-around spectacular. Will come again as a returning customer who used to go to the previous location, Daigo. For those who knew him, Gary-san used to work there too! He’s back and has plenty to share for those appreciative for sushi done RIGHT.
Great quality sushi restaurant. Chef Gary is an artist. Such a pleasure enjoying his creation and interpretation of fish varieties with matching condiments and presentations. Each piece of nigiri sushi was unique with layers of flavors. Ingredients were fresh and carefully portioned to bring out the best flavors and textures. I couldn’t pick which piece was my favorite. The special vinegar sushi rice compliments the fish very well. Nothing taste overwhelming. Each piece stroke a good balance of umami. Started with refreshing Daigo shot (quail egg with fish and ponzu sauce), hotate, aoebi, Saba, waygu nigiri, Chu toro, then ventured out to Chef’s Gary recommendation for ocean trout, torotaku, butter fish, hamachi, anago, uni and tamago. Also ordered kaki fry and ika geso. The fried items were light and crispy. If I live closer I would probably come to this gem restaurant every week. Staff were tentative and friendly. Very good vibe here.
The sushi were excellent. They had a bunch of special sushi that they served kind of omakaze style giving them to us in the right order already sauced properly. The rolls that came after were also delicious. Great service with Kyle giving us great suggestions. They also gave us icecream on the house at the end as well as tomago omlette from the chef. Review from 2 years prior: Tastes good but expensive. With tax and tip, I paid $206 for delivery, and three people ate it easily and could eat more. They charge for single piece nigiri what others charge for two. But it was good.
This place was seriously awesome the food was incredible the vide and the conversation was great. 10/10 would record someone to come here for a date or just a fun night out with a friend.

Delicious, succulent fish, beautifully prepared and presented by people who truly care!

Best kept secret in SF; super fresh fish, homemade pickles and wasabi. Authentic sushi and intimate, friendly personal service
The best sushi meal you can get for around $100 for two people in sf! The staff is so nice and welcoming and you can’t go wrong with any of the nigiri - the salmon, ocean trout, soy marinated tuna and scallop are my faves. The double tuna roll and baked scallop rolls are also unreal
Shoshin Sushi is one of the best sushi spots around. Gary, Jimmy, and Kyle make the whole experience feel personal. They chat with you at the counter and make you feel like a regular even if it’s your first visit. The sushi itself is top-notch, but what really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. The music is great, the vibe is relaxed, and the staff genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. Will be going back!
Wonderful experience, amazing fresh food- unique flavors, super friendly staff. This is a great place to get your sushi on!
Tasty food, cozy environment, and helmed by a lovely and enthusiastic crew! I've been coming here for a while, but this time had my family in tow — everyone was super welcoming and the sake was amazing! Highly recc the Baked Salmon Roll with some hot sake.
I could die happy after every meal here. The sushi is so good it makes me dizzy. Fresh cuts of fish with the perfect garnish and spiced rice. Every single fish they offer is top of the line, mouthwateringly good, and new options every time. My family has been taking me here for years, and they never disappoint. There is a warm and welcoming vibe from the staff, they always love to see us, and give us great recommendations and treats every time we go. It’s very cozy in there, and feeling like part of the Shoshin family makes it even cozier.
This is quite literally my favorite restaurant in the world. The quality of fish is incredible, the preparation is excellent, and most of all the service is fantastic. The staff always make us feel like family and are so excited about their food and sharing it with us. Sushi chef always has the best recs. Highly recommend all the nigiri (especially the toros) and the daigo shot.
Stumbled on this incredible restaurant whilst on our honeymoon from Australia. Excellent staff and food akin to being in Japan. We will never forget this dining experience!!!! We continue to compare all sashimi to this meal. Delicious matcha tiramisu to top it all off. Thank you 🤩

San Francisco, you gotta love that city, what a vibe, every neighborhood has its unique charm. In one of the neighborhoods you will find Shoshin Sushi, a very nice, cozy, authentic, small restaurant. The food is not out of this world but definitely with its own charm. I loved the makis but wasn’t very fond of the carpaccios, the sauce is flat and does not bring out the flavor of the fish much. On the other hand, the makis were all very good, the Naruto is one that you should particularly try, spicy tuna with avocado wrapped in a cucumber sheet with ponzu and olive oil, very refreshing. The place has a nice atmosphere with very friendly people, enjoy 👍

visited the establishment on November 18th on my birthday. The cafe is small and cozy. The food is delicious: I really liked the Daigo Shot, fish fins and cheeks, good spicy beef, fried breaded oysters - I really liked them. Everything is inexpensive and the price is reasonable. Unfortunately, I can't give it 5 stars because of the huge noise, the shouts of the guests who were sitting next to each other and shouting so much that it was impossible to hear each other at the table. It turned out that I ordered a cozy little quiet restaurant, but got into a beer bar for loud visitors. Conclusion: not suitable for a quiet visit of a couple or family for a cozy dinner. Be prepared for the noise from the guests and waiters who shout at each other with the regular guests of the establishment.
