Opinions de Atwater Tavern San Francisco
Came in for their HH. Dollar oysters and jalapeño poppers. Both were excellent - paired with a glass of white wine. Service was great - fast and friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating options.
good quality + awesome services. A great spot for lunch!
We enjoyed this little spot on our way in to a Giants game. Great drinks, good food, super close to the stadium and the prices weren't too bad either. Also had a great crowd for the game with nice staff and sports on as well.
Great spot with views and a succulent garden outside. Sat at the bar this time and enjoyed a Coronado Brewing Co. Weekend Vibes IPA. Enjoyed their crab cake and hummus platter. Fresh Oysters available! Happy Hour until 5pm!
Stopped by with our pups and we were welcomed to sit out by the water with a nice heater. They brought water and some treats out to the pups. Draft list was nice and we enjoyed sharing some fish and chips. Nice impromptu stop on our walk along the water.
Very Very Very nice staff and the food and cocktails is awesome! I love the fried chicken,Pizza and Pasta. This place is a hidden gem and the atmosphere is sooooo fun. They have an upstairs area that they use for private parties and they also have outdoor seating. I highly recommend this place for a nice time.
Came here for happy hour with $1 oysters and jalapeño poppers. Great atmosphere and great service. Their tavern burger was surprisingly delicious given this is a bar (fries were not as good). A little windy here so come prepared with a jacket!
Nice place ! Good Happy Hour. Burger and mussels with fries were excellent.
Came in for a quick drink and fell in love with the people and vibe of this place. I have a new favorite spot on the water.
Great spot for really good drinks (had my first Negroni and will have another) and good appetizers. Worth the walk to Chase Center or Giants game
Perfect spot for a glass of wine. Wish we could've spent longer. It would be amazing on a sunny day..nice Xmas decorations.
Dive bar inside, upscale outside. Awesome service, good drinks, great vibe. We just popped in randomly for after-work drinks around 3, and ended up having early dinner of fish and chips (which were great). Christopher is our new favorite bartender.
Jon is great! Food always on point, fresh. Quick service, great bar
I just hosted a Celebration of Life party for my sister and I cannot think of enough superlatives to describe the experience! We held it in the private venue upstairs, using both the The Crow's Nest (indoor area) and The Perch (outside deck with bay views). This part of SF is a delightful micro-climate that is frequently sunny and warm while other parts of the city can be foggy. Christina, the catering manager, was always responsive, detailed, and extremely helpful in so many ways, including menu suggestions, cutting down the amounts of food as I was over-estimating what we needed, helping me find the perfect florist, and allowing me to email her my 4+ hour Spotify playlist curated for this event; there were inside and outside speakers with separate sound controls. This was my first time planning an event, and of course it was difficult while grieving the loss of my sister. Christina made it all so easy, and the event was truly flawless. Everyone raved about the delicious food, (deviled eggs, caprese skewers, vegetarian pinwheels, Spanish meatballs, mini crab cakes, white truffle mac and cheese balls, pulled pork sliders, burger sliders with cheddar, roasted red pepper aioli and caramelized onions, fish and chip cones, Caesar salad, roasted vegetable flatbread pizzas, and a platter of dessert bars-- raspberry Linzer, caramel brownies, lemon bars), the amazing service: Luis, Stephanie, and Jasmine worked like a well-oiled machine, and they all clearly loved their jobs; it felt as if I had a loving family helping me through the day. Many thanks to the staff for the perfect day. I highly recommend them!
Stellar service (thank you, Robbie), good food, fantastic cocktails! Highly recommend!
Hands down my favorite restaurant in SF. Relaxed vibe with beautiful views. One of the best burgers in town. Unbelievable happy hour oysters. Not to miss affordable and high quality swag, too!
Wanted to enjoy a sunny day and ended up visiting ATWater Tavern. It's a dog friendly place. It was our first time visiting but we really liked it. You can enjoy the sports bar on the inside or you can grab a bite on the terrace by the water, which was relaxing. The food was delicious! We ordered the lobster ravioli and the steak & fries. Good portions and flavor.
FIONA is awesome! Sunshine, warm breeze, chill music, views of the bay and GREAT service from Fiona! Came solo on a game day- Rosé yum! The crab cake is light/ flavorful and has NO filler! Reminds me of Baltimore. The Caesar salad is large and filling, main was the burger with Swiss and avocado. Bun was a bit too much so I moved it aside. Great service- nice atmosphere- I will be back ! And happy hour 3-6! tip* if you come on a game day- there is designated parking for the restaurant!
This place is like out of a small town movie. From the cozy string lights, to the warm heaters, and the view. Gosh. What a view of the water. The food was delicious and the drinks were also amazing. The tiramisu is actually the best I have tasted in a while. It wasnt too strong on the coffee. I went here on a date and it is the perfect date spot. It's actually a great spot for any event.
We were just out driving and came upon this place, it looked so inviting so we decided to have lunch there. We had two AMAZING bloody Mary’s, fish and chips and the ahi tuna salad, it was all delicious. We highly recommend stopping in and sitting in the comfy snow globe dining area. It was warm and had a great view of the bay!!
ATwater Tavern is a great California-style restaurant with fresh, flavorful dishes and a relaxed atmosphere. The waterfront view adds to the charm, and the menu highlights local ingredients. A perfect spot to enjoy good food and the San Francisco vibe.
Interesting place on the water in between Oracle Park and the Chase center. Gets very crowded but it's worth dropping in to see if they have an opening. Everything was great except it gets busy and a little noisy.
One of the best seafood stews I've ever had. A tasty broth with mussels, clams, shrimp, and calamari.
Great views of the city and the water. Food is great (we tried the burger, tuna poke, and wings). The drinks are pretty good too. Amazing views of the Giants game if you happen to be there for a home game. Spots available upstairs and downstairs with views of the water. Only downside is that they didn’t have heaters upstairs.
Great spot close to the water and to Oracle Park. There is a bar area, indoor dining, and a nice outdoor patio. It's a lively atmosphere with a good vibe, but not too loud so you can enjoy your dining company. We've been in a couple of times and the service and food was good both times. It's very close to home for us, which is a plus. Would love to see more items added to the weekend brunch selections...egg sandwich and breakfast burrito would be great options. I loved the avocado toast, but hubby is more of a traditional breakfast or egg sandwich guy.
First time here & let me say it won’t be my last! I came on the perfect day, it was beautiful outside the giants game was going on it was a vibe! My waitress was super sweet & the cocktails definitely had me feeling good 😊 I got the fish and chips fried crispy and it was really good and well seasoned. 4 casa shots and 2 El Diablo cocktails with some oysters and you can call the a nice Sunday afternoon lunch!! Definitely recommend this place and sit on the patio if you’re willing …. you won’t regret it! 😇😇
Large restaurant with plenty of seating for large groups. Grilled items are excellent. Wine list is reasonably procedure and offers a small but diverse selection. On the water with great views.
I had an absolutely fantastic experience at AT Water Tavern! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, checking in at just the right times without ever feeling intrusive. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal with friends. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented, but what truly stood out was the exceptional hospitality. You can tell the team really cares about their guests’ experience. If you're in San Francisco and looking for a place with amazing service and a great vibe, AT Water Tavern is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back!
This was my second time spending time here. Our company reserved the top bar area and it was great to see the same male and female bartenders. The finger food was a hit again. AtWater Tavern should be your stop if you're planning for a night out in "Mission Rock" area of San Francisco.
I just hosted an event with 65 people in Atwater Tavern’s upstairs venue. I can’t say enough wonderful things about the team, and the food and bar program. Christina consulted with me every step of the way and helped me to design the food, drink and AV so that it met my specifications exactly. My guests were blown away by the warmth of the venue, the staff and what they experienced. Thank you!
WHOEVER 4 stars this tavern. Yo momma secretly hates you brah. Give me the ABSOLUTE piece of art the tavern burger, slap it with Swiss and cheddar cheese, make it a double AND MAKE IT FAT, AND HOLYYYYY!!… People nowadays don’t know what a B U R G E R does to a MAN’S body along with the excellence of service & greet from everyone working there. I’m always there because this place SSSSMACKSSSS.
We stopped in for lunch and found a surprise happy hour with $1 oysters. The Cubano was fantastic as was the harvest said with shrimp. The Cubano was great but the salad stole the show. The only thing better than the food was the service. Staff was also personable and friendly. Extremely attentive but not overly so... They hit that mythical Goldilocks level of just right. They made us feel wicked immediately and other places could take a page from their book. Oh yeah, and the music was a fantastic blend of 80s classics with the volume at the perfect level. Clear sounds but you could still have a conversation. Definitely check this place out.
Has become the GoTo place before Warriors or Giants games. Love the location and the outdoor option. Had just appetizers/drinks this time and it was all excellent. The Martinis were well crafted, the oysters were fresh and delicious, as always, the crab cake was excellent, especially with the slaw that came with it, and the shrimp cocktail was plump and perfect.
Nina is the owner and she’s amazing. Try the charcoal grilled bread, it’s amazing. Also shout out to Dan, Crystal, and Jordan. Best servers ever! They give very great advice and even suggestions are great places to jog around the area. I live nearby and always appreciate their advice about the local clubs or baseball game. Great people.
[This review is long overdue.] My fiancé and I celebrated our engagement party at ATwater Tavern this past July, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue to celebrate with our ~70 guests. The beautiful weather allowed us to fully enjoy the fantastic indoor/outdoor space, creating a wonderful flow. From start to finish, the experience was seamless, thanks in large part to Christina, their amazing event manager. She was incredibly organized, responsive, and ensured every detail was taken care of. The food was fantastic! The extensive menu offered something for everyone, from delicious seafood and perfectly cooked tri-tip to thoughtful vegan options. Our guests loved the variety and quality. And the desserts were amazing! The rounds of food were paced perfectly throughout the evening. The A/V setup was exactly what we needed – our Spotify playlist created the personalized atmosphere, and the photo slideshow on the screens was a lovely touch. The seating arrangement worked wonderfully for mingling and enjoying the celebration. The staff at ATwater were also incredibly accommodating with our vendors. They were so helpful with the setup and breakdown for our flower wall & neon sign and the delivery of our floral arrangements, making the process stress-free. The best touch of the night, and something everyone raved about, were the signature cocktails they crafted to celebrate our engagement: the Charleston Twist, Taiwanese Tea, and Martinez. They were delicious and such a thoughtful detail. A huge thank you to Christina and the entire team at ATwater Tavern for hosting such an unforgettable and magical celebration. We highly recommend ATwater Tavern for any special event!
We walked here from our hotel. We Were warmly greeted by the hostess, even though we did not have reservations, Tuesday evening. After a short wait, we were shown to our table. The food & service were excellent. Looking forward to going back, soon. I had the lobster ravioli & my husband had a hamburger.
a very friendly bar and amazing food Update 6 th October I have been coming here now for a while when I am in town, tonight was the first time I had real bad service, both bar tenders were more interested in the female customers, when they did eventuality get around to me they were eager to take a tip, I was going to have some of their fantastic food but decided not to due to the Service, I will be back because it is a really great place
Good food and good atmosphere. We sat outside and it was really nice. Service was a little slow but it was pretty busy so it's understandable. We'd definitely go back.
A nice place for lunch. The food was delicious and the portions generous. The staff was friendly and very efficient.
Came for happy hour (2-5pm M-F) but was pretty disappointed at the HH selection ($1 oyster or jalapeño poppers and $1 off beers/wells). Not much of a HH offering and the oysters were not the freshest. I’d say if you want to grab a drink before the game and need a spot that’s close to the giants/warriors stadium, this is great for it. But food was mediocre for the price. However, their service was friendly and quick, so that was a win. Not a bad spot overall, but definitely not a HH to rave about.
An upscale restaurant with some standout dishes. The Cuban Sandwich and Tavern Sandwich are absolute must-tries. However, the Ahi Tuna Bowl could use some improvement, both in terms of portion size and quality.
It was a solid good. We met friends there for dinner before a concert at the new Chase Center. We made early reservations and glad we did. Place was packed before the show. Service was good. Food was good. Be warned they don't honor their happy hour specials on Event Nights in the area.
Great atmosphere, the salmon was good but lacked a bit of flavor. We were there pre Cirque de Soleil performance across the street so service was very slow. On another day, time place could be great as long as they do not have an event upstairs using up the kitchen staff.
Went on a Monday at 4. It was a beautiful daybin San Francisco. The service was great. They have a happy hour. The food was okay. I had the chicken sandwich. I wish it had more flavor. The bread was fresh, and toasted. My friend had the impossible burger and loved it. The service was quick.
Came here with a friend and it was super pretty looking across the water! Good: - The pancakes were tasty - not too sweet and I liked the fresh fruit on top - The main course was tasty - it was enough to share between two people despite both of us being pretty hungry. - The vibes are good for a lazy Sunday afternoon catchup - I really liked sitting on the patio Bad: - Food took some time to arrive - Hard to flag down the waiters, we even had to get our own plates Overall this was a nice Sunday brunch experience, I liked the variety and might try more food next time.
ATWater Tavern is the perfect spot for a leisurely or professional work lunch. Situated right on the water, it offers a stunning view that instantly sets a relaxed, welcoming tone. The fresh fish dishes are a highlight—each plate bursts with flavor and showcases the quality of the seafood. Whether you’re enjoying a light lunch or a hearty meal, the combination of great food and a picturesque setting makes every visit memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a delightful meal with an unbeatable view.
Came here early on a weeknight, not too busy, a good casual amount of crowd. Got a table for 6 downstairs and were drinking and munching on shared plates for 3 hours, a great relaxed and nicely decorated place to do that. Enjoyed all the food, the service was great. The upstairs looked beautiful and nice for romantic dinner or date night (I like the lights). Came out to about $50 per person for all our munchies and drinks (two of us weren't drinking). There are some parking spots directly in front of the tavern, and street parking nearby.
The food here was quite good as recently as six months ago. Not sure what occurred to change things (new chef?) but it was astoundingly tasteless today. I have to rescind my recommendation to my friends to come here. What happened???
Nice location. Within walking distance to the baseball park. And parking lot for events are around here. Very kind servers. However, food is average. But you probably did not come here just for the food.
It is in a nice location with view and a patio. The fries were really good. The cocktails weren't consistent though (some really good, some not so). The fish and chips was below average, while the fish looked crispy from outside, it wasn't fully cooked from inside (needs a little more time). The main issue was the service. Even though it was almost empty when we went, it took so long to get everything.
Food: Brussels sprouts were cold. Kale salad with persimmon and goat cheese was great but could have benefited from more goat cheese. Fish and chips was decent. The gnocchi was flavorful but luke warm. Everything came out at the same time (salad, Brussels sprouts, our entrees). Ordered the bread pudding for dessert but server came back saying they were out. Ordered the Nutella Cannoli as second choice. Server came back saying they were out of that, too. Asked if cookie of the day was heated, told yes, but it came out room temp and quite hard (not soft, warm, and gooey like you’d expect and want). Maybe the food issues were just part of kitchen having an off night. Not bad at all, but for a special night out, not great. They had a couple of very nice non alcoholic cocktails on their beverage menu that were really well balanced (Cucumber Rickey was great). Crisp, tart, refreshing. Also had a hazy non alc IPA that was perfect. Always appreciate places that put some thought and effort into their non alc options. Thank you! Lively holiday atmosphere on our visit, and super friendly service from staff from the time we were greeted at front all the way through the meal until the time we left. 👍
A solid average experience. The The fish and chips were tasty. The portion size was good. The french fries were extra crispy, as I ordered them. My friend was not overwhelmed by the chicken sandwich. The calamari portion size was good and they tasted okay also. Service left a bit to be desired. More than 17 minutes sitting at the table before the server ever stopped by. Large group at the table next to us getting all the attention. I'm definitely not complaining about the restaurant or the food, but it just doesn't deserve much more than a three.
I definitely didn’t feel like they were properly staffed. I had to wait far too long to get some very simple drinks. And when the drinks arrived they did not offer to clear .our already cramped table, of empty dishes. The chorizo mussels were good, but nothing special. Had a few to many unopened mussels. The lobster ravioli was very bland. Although the grilled shrimp it was topped With was amazing.and I have definitely had much healthier looking oysters in plenty of other places in SF. Honestly for the price point it really didn’t feel worth it.
So I called the ATwater tavern around 4:00 yesterday to reserve a four top for after the Cirque show that ended around 6:45. The gentleman who answered the phone said as long as got there before 7 it wasn’t necessary. When I arrived with my guests at 6:45 the hostess asked me if I had a reservation and I explained what happened. She informed me that she was the manager and asked who I spoke to and I told her I didn’t remember. The place was empty and I should have walked out for her rudeness and impertinence but I was hungry. The woman couldn’t keep her mouth shut and told me in the future leave my name! I won’t return food passable, atmosphere, average, service sucked!
Drinks were good, atmosphere good/great. Food was medium-ish (and not just my meal within our group). Staff, unfortunately I had an extremely condescending waitstaff to deliver my food…which made an extremely poor first impression, and put a damper on my experience.
Being close to home and by the water makes this a convenient choice for me, and I've dined here for lunch and dinner on several occasions. While it's a pleasant spot for a drink and a snack, I'm consistently underwhelmed by the main dishes. The food often lacks the quality and execution one would expect from a restaurant, particularly considering its price point. I much prefer Mission Rock for a main meal.
Shared the pork belly starter. It was ok. The shrimp, octopus, and pork belly were good separately. But as a dish, the flavors didn't really mesh well. Ordered the fried chicken and the burger. Burger was under cooked (see photo) - ordered medium and came out rare. Chicken was ok. Not very flavorful and others said their piece was greasy. For dessert, shared the poto creme (very creamy & delicious) and the upside down cake (dry tasting... Maybe old). For the price, expected better food and a burger that was properly cooked.
We tried this place because it was advertised as the brunch spot during the Metallica 40th anniversary celebration. What was advertised as the brunch was a bit misleading. We expected a brunch menu with specialty drinks and good array of food. They had a few drinks listed but didn’t have a brunch offering. So we ordered a breakfast sandwich and pancakes. It was nothing special (see photos) and drinks were subpar. Staff was friendly. Atmosphere was a general bar. Maybe lunch or dinner seafood options and drinks are better? Wanted to love this place but we will pass on giving it another try.
Food quality and taste are just not there. We ordered Salmon Linguini and crab cake benedict. Both were really basic and need seasoning. Apart from a nice outdoor space when sunny, the price doesnt reflect the quality at all
Really disappointed. this place has really gone down hill - my family arrived and they tell us it’s a 45 minute wait so we get a pizza to go. The pizza must have been the smallest i’ve seen in SF and was basically just thinking bread and cheese. Additionally, we walked in to see tons of empty tavles outside, so unsure how there was. a 45 minute wait with the whole outside empty. Very disappointing
First, I will say service is always kind and the water view is nice. But unfortunately, no matter what we order, the food is SO mediocre and overpriced. Last time, it took me hours to emotionally recover from the $300 bill at the end of such a mid meal. I wanted to support a neighborhood spot, but with better options open nearby, I will not be returning.
The location is nice as it has indoor and outdoor seating. There's no parking right next to it FYI, but that isn't a huge issue since there's street parking down the road. The main issue is the food quality- the appetizers on Happy Hour were great! But the main entrees were seriously lacking. We got the fish and chips, potato gnocchi, and grilled chicken sandwich. The sandwich was probably the best (6/10), but the gnocchi and fish and chips both tasted as though they were frozen meals (1/10). Those also happened to be the most expensive things we got ($25) so it was pretty disappointing! The service I will say was very friendly and quick.
We had late lunch there. The location is pretty good. Outdoor as well as indoor seating. We chose the outdoor one next to water. The waitress mentioned that the oysters are now happy hour priced for $1 instead of $4. We ordered some and enjoyed it. We reordered it as they tasted good and very fairly priced ! The burger, fish and chips, crab cake were good, but pasta was very salty and we told our waitress about it. Her reaction was as if she didn’t care !
I never write food reviews, but both me and my wife were very dissatisfied. We shared a pulled pork sandwich. The pork tasted old and dry. We also had the fish and chips. The fish was the worst I've ever had. It tasted hard and bland. It tasted worst than cheap frozen fish sticks. We couldn't finish the food and just brought it home for our dog. The service was good and fast and the restaurant interior and deck was nice. It was too bad at $150 that no attention was given to the quality of the food.
