Opinions de Boulevard San Francisco
It’s always thrilling for my family to sit at the chef’s dining counter. Love seeing how things come together and the talented chefs make magic for the senses! Beauty created in organized chaos! It’s like watching a real-life version of a Food Network show - the thrill of seeing your meals being prepared. I’m always excited about the plating part. The whole experience is very personal with the chefs chatting with you and answering questions. This is our go to place for fine food!
Boulevard is clearly a polished, high-caliber restaurant. The staff was attentive and professional, the décor gorgeous, and the Mission Street location hard to beat. The food was very well prepared and thoughtfully executed, though portions were on the modest side. Our crab salads were flavorful but light on crab. The lamb was tasty but leaned fattier than expected. The filet mignon, however, was excellent—tender and flavorful—though it arrived a touch red in the center despite being ordered medium well. With a bill of $325 before tip, we were hoping to be a bit more wowed. Boulevard offers a refined gastronomic experience, but for us it fell just short of the high expectations set by its reputation.
The food is excellent, the service is highly attentive and kind (thank you, Alvaro), and the atmosphere is hard to beat, especially during the holidays. We will be back.
Exquisite experience! Boulevard is one of my new favourite spots in San Francisco. The atmosphere is divine and somewhat mystical, resemblant of a fantasy novel in all the best ways. The menu offers the very best of French cuisine - I enjoyed the scallops, lobster ravioli, and beef fillet. Desserts were tough to choose from with so many delicious options; we eventually settled on the vanilla brûlée cheesecake and chocolate marble cake, both of which were fantastic. The wine list is exceptionally curated, with an excellent list of wines by the glass (including a Coravin selection). Service was fast, friendly, and not at all intrusive. Highly recommend as a date spot or for dinner with friends!
Well, my wife and I have been around the block as far as fine dining in SF and the Bay Area, but somehow didn't land here until now. It is highly recommended and known even outside of the area as an excellent representation of higher end California/New American experience, so we were pretty excited to give it a go... ...and it was a slam dunk. First off, we got seated in this very unique booth that let us sit next to each other, in a scoop bench kinda thing. It was very unique and let us have a view of the really stunning decor and with a slight turn of the head can see the embarcadero and the bay bridge. Excellent ambience. The owner did an outstanding job on the layout; very unique in many regards. Got the prefix, we went with scallops, and tartar. Both were excellent. For mains, the filet and pork chop. Outstanding. The caper and horseradish on the steak was a unique and perfect marriage; never had that flavor combo before and the steak itself was like butter. And the pork chop (brined for 24 hours) was another best in class. I enjoyed every single bite and if it wasn't so boujee I would have picked up the bone and gnawed it clean. The deserts were works of art on the plate. If you go, absolutely order the creme brulee & bergamot cheese cake. Wow. Accolades. Applause. Excellent meal. Highly recommend.
Easily, the best Michelin-rated restaurant I have been to. From the foie gras to the caviar service to the the handcrafted pastas and curated mains, it is a dining experience that is completely unique and lovely in my experience. The service and the sommelier were kind, patient and master class. I can only imagine that Louis XIV's Versailles had this type of dinner service.
In a region overflowing with extraordinary dining, from the hidden gems of the East Bay to the Michelin-bright stars of Napa and Los Angeles, standing out in California’s culinary landscape is no small feat. After all, this is San Francisco, where even the coffee shops sometimes have tasting menus and the sourdough has a fan base. Yet Boulevard, nestled steps from the Ferry Building, manages to rise above the noise. And in San Francisco, rising above the noise is impressive, considering half the noise is construction for something that may or may not ever be finished. From the moment you arrive, the bustle of the Embarcadero seems to fall away. The staff greets you with warmth and professionalism that instantly sets the tone. Inside, the space feels like its own world: calm, elegant, and intentionally designed to spotlight what matters most, the food. It is the rare SF restaurant where you can actually hear your dining companion without needing a city-issued permit for amplified sound. And the food is spectacular. Boulevard’s menu balances refinement with comfort, with standout dishes that linger in your memory long after the meal ends. Their famed pork chop is a masterclass in execution, beautifully cooked, deeply flavorful, and the kind of dish that reminds you why you pay San Francisco rent in the first place. Appetizers are equally exceptional. The beef tartare is delicate and impeccably seasoned; the tableside lobster bisque adds a bit of theater without feeling over the top; and offerings like Aji tuna and pristine oysters highlight the kitchen’s respect for top tier ingredients. Seafood lovers will be delighted, too: the halibut is wonderfully balanced, and the sea bass consistently impresses. And please, save room for dessert. Their crème brûlée cheesecake is a luxurious finale, especially when paired with a well brewed coffee that ties the entire evening together. In a state celebrated for culinary innovation, Boulevard continues to shine with its artistry, consistency, and heartfelt hospitality. If you love food and you are in San Francisco, dinner at Boulevard is not just recommended, it is a destination you absolutely should not miss.
Amazing experience! Made reservation for our anniversary and they did not disappoint. Arrived few minutes early and we got seated right away. Our first time here and staff are helpful with recommendations. We loved the friendly welcoming staff and romantic ambience. Menu is pre fixe 3-course meal. Food tasted really good and plating was so pretty. Love the cocktails and desserts. Will definitely come back.
25 years on and still going strong! Food at this Michelin 1*, San Francisco icon, operated by a James Beard award chef - Nancy Oakes is as delicious as before. The unrivalled, well seasoned, House Special Berkshire Pork Chop, with its gorgeous crust and ultra juiciness, was and is definitely the star of an attractive and varied menu. Other dishes, especially seafood and fish related, were all executed to near perfection, with welcoming taste profiles. The only downside was the professional service though attentive but felt a bit stiff and pretentious.
The atmosphere was spectacular. The food was the highest quality. Dino was an amazing server, he told us everything about the restaurant's history and the owners' journey to build this place. He also knew everything about the building and the interior design. I will now be very loyal to this restaurant.
Beautiful ambiance. Fantastic food and presentation. Hands down the best pork chop I have ever had. I usually go for a nice ribeye or porterhouse at high end steakhouse like Peter Lugars, etc and prefer steak over pork but I am so glad I tried the pork chop! Outstanding! In fact everything was outstanding. Worthy of a michellin star. (Which they had years ago apparently but not anymore for some reason I cant fathom. Won't be disappointed. Will definitely be back on my next trip to SF!
Consistently excellent restaurant with phenomenal service and outstanding food quality. Their fixed-price menu offers great variety - we enjoyed perfectly prepared Lobster Bisque, Sea Scallops, Berkshire Pork Chops, and Pearl Hen Saltimbocca. All dishes were beautifully presented with generous portions. Desserts (Pistachio Crumble Cake and Strawberries & Brown Sugar Arlette) were exceptional. Cocktails were expertly crafted. Professional service throughout. Only minor disappointment: the sourdough with Duck Liver Mousse was too soft and lacked expected crispiness. Perfect for special occasions, date nights, or celebrations. Highly recommend!
I have been curious about Boulevard Restaurant located in The Audiffred Building at 1 Mission Street for years, so when friends invited me to join them there, I jumped at the chance. The atmosphere, enhanced by its Art Nouveau theme, is very welcoming, as is the wait staff. With a tasty martini in hand from the full bar, we were escorted to our table which, happily, seemed to be in a location where we could hear one another. Next time I will make notes about the unique features of each dish, but alas, all I can offer now is that every bite was delicious! 2025 update: Boulevard is still a fabulous destination restaurant.
Enter back in time with elegance starting at the revolving door. Immediate seating at counter or bar, entitles you to a la carte menu. Inner dining room is ONLY PRE FIXE @ $125/ea. We did a la carte totalling $166* Halibut: tender 8oz with French flare. Sea Bass: 6oz melting in your mouth with almond wonder sauce. Appetizer: two lightly battered scallops. Dessert: warmed gluten- free! Brownie with fresh cream mouse, roasted coconut and melted marshmallow!! All while enough bay view on Embarcadero *
A San Francisco stalwart that I feel like I’ve been to a couple times before, but this seems to be the first time I’m reviewing. It’s what you would expect from a great restaurant, great food and lovely ambience. All the plates were interesting and inventive without being small and pretentious. Great service with that old school feel of being your neighborhood local. Would recommend for any local or visitor of the City.

It is a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful prefix menu and such friendly and professional staff. We had the Baile Black Chicken wine, which was perfect with the pork chop main course.

Had the sea bass, white asparagus, and fruit dessert. Might have been personal taste, didn’t feel this restaurant was astounding. 2 others I dined with said it’s the best food of their life (got the pork chop) I had a full dinner 2h prior to this meal, and still left this meal hungry despite finishing a prix fixe. They kept offering bread. Tuesday night.
We were here to celebrate the 36th anniversary of our wedding. The restaurant was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We were seated in a very nice spot in the dining room. We had fun switching positions halfway through the dinner to see the amazing view of the bridge. We had the shrimp in risotto, scallops, lamb and fillet. Everything was very tasty although our main courses were not served hot. If that is not a priority Bob’s your uncle. The woman at the front who greeted us was less than friendly. Maybe she was having a bad night. Our waiter seemed somewhat into being there with us. I would suggest people come for the food as described and the atmosphere. I don’t have a problem spending $450 on a very special anniversary dinner, next year it won’t be here.
What happened to their single but still prestigious Michelin Star that they've held onto every year since the Guide started to rate restaurants in the US circa 2005? It vanished in the 2016 listing, but my second time dining here was just as good as the first a few years ago. ATMOSPHERE: The bar area is simply gorgeous with its concave brick ceilings, wood moldings, and mosaic & wood floors. The middle part of the restaurant boasts marble floors and counter seating with a view of the bustling kitchen. The rear part where we sat had an enviable view of the Bay Bridge which was totally lit up and twinkling. Add in the Christmas decorations, and the place looked like a true winter wonderland. MENU: Everything was delish. OVERALL: Beautiful ambiance, nice food presentation, great food. A favorite of ours. 4.5 stars and still a one Michelin Star in my opinion!

I chose this restaurant for my birthday. Because of the nice pictured review and recommended by the city's old timers. But my experience was not as expected. Not sure if it us the timing last seating 8pm or because we do not order the Prix-fixe menu but our experience on the food were kind of disappointing After I smell the fishy halibut delivered to the next table while we are ordering, but both of us prefer white meat after a long week, I had a bad feeling. We chose only for the main course and I was right but I am glad our halibut isn't as fishy. Nice presentation and taste. I left the dry chicken bottom part on the plate. Since I heard about the "michelin standard" the restaurant has become. When I could not agree on sharing dessert the waitress also did not even took initiative with a small cake and candle like the usual classic restaurants like Sam at FiDi does (will post this later) But it was overall a nice and professional service, the manager with a card welcome and a great atmosphere as pictured, told on website and what I heard about. We supposed to get the Chef seating for a la carte but our seating has a comfy space by the entrance so it was a nice evening.
