Opinions de Burma Superstar San Francisco
Very tasty food. We got Chilli Lamb and it was freaking delicious. The staff is very friendly. We recommend this location as a culinary experience. They have a bench outside with the gas heaters that makes you warm and cozy even outside the restaurant. They have two heaters at the entrance as well. Please enjoy!!!
Food is made to order and with high quality ingredients. The waitress was extremely helpful and answered all our questions and made delicious recommendations. She also advised on how much to order since we didn’t want any waste or leftovers. The green tea salad was unique and delicious. The herbal tea was made with flowers. The atmosphere was very lively, we ate indoors and there is a single bathroom available for customers. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a fun experience with delicious and healthy food.
Went to look for a lunch place and found this gem. Seated immediately even without reservations, and had our drinks going whilst we browsed on their menu. We ordered their Burmese vermicelli salad, Crab with turmeric and ginger, and eggplant with garlic sauce! Super yummy! Lee was super sweet and attentive! Definitely will come back here and try their other dishes!
If you’re on Clement Street in San Francisco and your stomach is craving bold, spiced flavors, **Burma Superstar** is definitely one of those neighborhood treasures worth battling the crowds for. From the moment you step in, the aroma of garlic, toasted nuts, and chilies sets the tone — you know you’re in for something special. One of the standout features here is how friendly it is to **vegetarians and vegans**. The menu includes a dedicated vegetable & tofu section, with dishes like **red curry with tofu and eggplant** (available mild or extra spicy) . You’ll also find **Superstar Vegetarian Noodles** — traditional Burmese noodles tossed with tofu, cabbage, potato, cucumber, and chili sauce — a refreshing, room-temperature dish. The **Rainbow Salad**, served vegan or traditional, is a colorful medley of 22 ingredients. And of course the iconic **Tea Leaf Salad** (often mixed tableside) is a must-order, and is often offered in vegan form as well. If you love crispy, savory snacks, their **chips** (especially the garlic chips or golden crispy garlic chips) are excellent — they deliver that addictive crunch and deep garlic flavor that you’ll keep snacking on between plates. On the flip side, this place is **notoriously busy**. They don’t accept reservations, so you’ll likely face long waits — sometimes 30 to 60 minutes (or more) during peak dinner hours. Also worth noting: parking is very limited in this neighborhood. You’ll probably have to circle the blocks or hope for a rare street spot. All told, Burma Superstar offers an electric, flavorful Burmese dining experience with solid vegetarian options and standout crunchy chips — but patience and some luck with parking are required.
I’ve loved Burmese food for years and finally made it to Burma Superstar. The experience was everything I hoped for and more. The outdoor seating was surprisingly cozy on a breezy night, and both indoor and outdoor spaces felt spacious and thoughtfully arranged. I ordered the regular-sized tea leaf salad and lamb curry—both were phenomenal. The salad, though less traditional, was lighter and more refreshing with lettuce, and the flavor complexity was unreal: bitter, acidic, umami—perfectly balanced. My son and I agreed it’s one of the best salads we’ve ever had. The lamb curry was rich, generous in portion, and paired beautifully with coconut rice. My son, who usually eats like a linebacker, surrendered with a napkin flag—he was that full. Service was impeccable. The host was kind and accommodating, even prepping a water bowl for my service dog. Our waiter Tommy was knowledgeable and warm, guiding us through the menu with care. I can’t wait to return and try everything else. Burma Superstar is not just a restaurant—it’s a ritual worth repeating.
ighlighted on Yelps Top 100 restaurants (2025). Indoor and outdoor seating, but I would recommend getting a reservation. Delicious tea leaf salad and taro chips(complimentary) to start. The walnut shrimp was absolutely fantastic: jumbo sized shrimp, fried and paired with caramelized walnuts. The stir fried eggplant with garlic sauce, was a perfect vegetable dish with your meal. Be sure to order their nan gyi dok(coconut chicken curry). The coconut rice was another great option. Lastly, their Vietnamese ice coffee was refreshing.
Hit here on a weekday night pretty busy but got seated in 20ish mins. All the dishes were super fresh and they mix the salad for you. The sticky pork and the beef mango were my favorite of the dishes the the sesame chicken too but it tasted more like orange chicken still bomb though. Will deff need to come back to try other dishes!
Loved the food but the service was just ok. They sat us in the middle of the restaurant and each waiter kicked my chair every time they walked by. Almost seemed like they were competing to see who could kick my chair the most and hardest. But the food was quite tasty and different. Never had Burmese food so cant speak to how authentic it is or even if its particularly good Burmese food. But i enjoyed it quite a bit. We had an eggplant dish, a beef curry, shrimp dish and some coconut rice. Every dish was very enjoyable but their tea leaves salad was my favorite. Never had anythjng that tasted quite like that. First bite was a bit confusing but by the end i was obsessed. Will be looking for more burmese food in the future.
The food here is great but the service here here is stupendous. All the food is well-cooked and the attention to allergens is spot on. Hell, our server received confirmation from the kitchen that they could make something. But, just to make sure, he double checked and prevented us from having to eat a dish with something we couldn't have. The outdoor seating is comfortable and has ready access to their free hot tea so I actually prefer it over the interior. No food besides the biryani comes with rice so you'll have to order it separately. I believe the regular portions are good for 1.5 people for lunch or 1 person for dinner. My gf loved her shrimp curry. The right mix of heat and the shrimp was well-seasoned and cooked. The crispy chicken was all white meat and the heat is about 1/4 a seeded jalapeno. The tofu vegetable kebat was a favorite among our grass grazers but honestly the eggplant & tofu curry wasn't all that. We also weren't a fan of the tea leaf salad. It's honestly too bitter. But the mix of ingredients was nice and the textural contrast was fun too. Just didn't really like the flavors.
I love how the food here is not just unique, but thoughtfully made. Everything sounds like something you may have had in a Chinese or Indian restaurant, but is just a little less familiar. The vegetable samusas have an egg roll-like wrapper and are perfectly crispy. The potato filling is creamy and satisfying. The cumin lamb was very flavorful and well stir fried. Chicken biryani is tasty and somewhat different from its Indian counterpart. Sizzling shrimp was like a very good shrimp scampi and would be great with plain rice or bread. Tea leaf salad is a symphony of strong flavors and textures. The mango lassi is very mango forward, with just a hint of yogurt tang at the end.
Popular, cozy Burmese restaurant with classic dishes. Came here with my boyfriend for a late lunch and we were excited to try this place since there aren’t a ton of Burmese restaurants in easy access in LA. We ordered the Plathq & dip and split a large a Oh No Kauwser (coconut chicken curry soup) between the two of us. The plates and dip came in 6 pieces and the curry sauce was delicious. The coconut soup had cilantro, onions, egg slices, and crunchies on the side so you can customize it. The broth was thick and hearty; it was a good meal for warming ourselves up after visiting the Golden Gate Park. There is indoor and outdoor dining. There is one single occupant restroom available. Our waitress was sunshine in human form and was so sweet. It’s a popular place for both locals and tourists.
It has been a loooong time since we came here last but Burma Superstar has had an excellent reputation for literally decades. True to form, the food was yummy, the service was exemplary, surroundings were beautiful and cozy. The crowd was happy to be there and we were pleased to join in! Special thanks to our Superstars and heroes for the evening: Andrew and Derrick were out of this world!
Consistently high quality delivery, flavorful but mild — delicate in its savouriness. Tea Leaf Salad, dressed with imported fermented black and green teas — citrus wonderfully cuts through funkiness, excellent crunch from romaine, seeds and toasted garlic. Lamb Curry, comforting and saucy — coconut rice on the side is key. Braised Pork Belly with Pickled Mustard Greens, reflects a more Chinese style of culinary — excellent. Dark teakwood interiors with walls adorned with decades-old Rangoon maps and panoramic cityscape photograph. Near architectural parklet dining space. Excellently attentive service.

Great Burmese food. The side of rice was very dry but the cauliflower and chicken were excellent. Samosas were great tasting and good sauce. Soda is steep at $4.50 and mandate fee 5.5%.
Come try the tea leaf salad, it’s unique and delicious. This was my 2nd time trying it so the novelty wore off, but still very good. We also ordered their popular lamb curry and noodles and they were also solid. The food is generally light and mild though so if you like creamier and stronger flavors, this might not be your style. The serving is amazing though and they also had Suntory beer on draft day when we visited. Go early as there was a line before the opening.
This is my second time trying Burmese food. One of the good things being in SF area is that there are decent Burmese restaurants here. What I liked - Ambience was really good. The complimentary lotus chips were a nice addition. I also tried spicy chicken and their Fried rice which had chickpea - I think that was interesting. I kind of liked it. What I didn't like - Nan Gyi Duk. It reminds me of Vietnamese flavour. It felt fresh but was bit too bland. I think there was too much of things going on with the dish and it was all over place. I will not be ordering it again. But good experimentation. Then I think their portion size was below par. I felt they can improve the portion as the food is actually expensive. I didn't had any dessert or drinks otherwise the check would be easy $100+ for 2 person.

I don’t get why this restaurant is so hyped up. The dishes are mediocre at best for a hefty price tag. particularly dislike the pumpkin pork stew. The pork lacks any flavor and the pumpkin is severely underdone. The dishes don’t come with rice, it has to order separately. The coconut rice is $5.50. Small portion and way too meshy for our liking.
I actually have never left an unfavorable review. However, we had a reservation for 6 people and were aware of the 15. per person fee for cancellations. We were caught in traffic coming from Sonoma…
