it hella gud!!! been coming here since I was a tot and it's still amazing. you get so much food, huge portions. I think if you get milk tea and you want it sweetened you gotta ask for condensed milk (not 100% sure on that, but you know, try it) best thing to get is their pork chop with pepper sauce. also anything with tomato sauce is gonna be kinda sweet. the borscht soup is amazing I was so cold and it warmed me right up and it was delish.
This is an American restaurant Chinese style. Comfort food to the max. Their Chicken special will knock your socks off. Two big pieces of chicken plus lots of veggies and they start out with sweet bread they have unlimited milk tea and even dessert. Plenty to bring home for the next day. That was what the wife got but I got the baked Seafood. Oh my God. Big bowl full of rice covered with vegetables and Squid and scallops and shrimp and oysters or were those muscles? Smothered in cheese and baked crispy in the oven.So incredibly good. I'll bet I gain several pounds. Anyway this place is actually kind of non fancy joint but they pack them in and they really know how to provide excellent service. Also a lot of the items on the daily menu board High ticket Seafood items extraordinaire. Worth the experience check it out.
Definitely come for their daily specials! All their food is very well portioned and plentiful. I appreciate the kind customer service and I always find this place as one of the locals spots. There is street parking available, along with metered parking closer to the restaurant. Also it is solo dining friendly when it’s not busy. It tends to be on the quieter side when it’s not busy which is perfect to enjoy a delicious meal.
Ordered the baked chicken steak with white sauce over rice (see image). Piping hot and full of cheesy, saucy goodness. The only downside was that the chicken was oversalted. (Pro-tip: they can make it with any type of sauce on top of your order even if it isn't explicitly listed on the menu.) Also tried the ox-tongue with tomato sauce and spaghetti. The ox-tongue was amazingly tender, a must-try! The sauce was very sweet and I would recommend a different choice unless you have a sweeter palette. Both orders started off with tomato soup appetizer which hit the spot and started the meal off on the right note. Ordered HK milk tea on the side. The tea is strong as expected and comes standard with sugar/artificial sweetener packets and unlimited refills. ☕ Jello was for dessert as usual but doesn't come topped with creamer anymore. Not too sweet, just right. The aunties serving us were very accommodating and kept our drinks topped off.
Been going to this place with my family since I was a kid and it's always been a solid go-to place for no-frills Hong Kong food. They have good daily specials that come with soup, drink, and dessert. I absolutely love the red tomato pasta sauce on their spaghetti sides (it's sweeter than marinara) and their daily soups are always delicious. Their buns are the SOFTEST and so delicious when you dip it in the soup. I also like their grass jelly drink that comes with vanilla ice cream, otherwise the classic Hong Kong milk tea also hits the spot. Huge portions and very affordable prices.
My #1 Hong Kong style restaurant in the city. They have the Special every day, just order from the special menu. The milk tea is free refill too.
This is a great inexpensive restaurant with a lame name! They have all kinds of cuisine prepared in Hong Kong style. We got garlic chicken steak with pasta and oxtail. Came with a small cup of tomato soup (surprisingly pleasant) and jello for desert. Tasted great especially the meat. The sides were the weakest part but still good. The place got packed and clearly a lot of Asians support it with their business.
Dropped by here for a quick bite with a friend around 3:30 on a Monday afternoon. I'm surprised to there's quite a few customers inside. We both ordered the daily special. You get the soup of the day, milk tea, your entree and jello for dessert. All comes out to about $20/person after tax and tips. It's a heck of a deal for the amount of food you're got.
Neighborhood no thrills bang for your buck quality food. Love their dinner roll, only given when you eat there. Friday night with their special curry beef stew. So yummy. Fast service. Hong Kong tea is strong.
I love coming here! I recommend the chicken steak with cream corn sauce and an ice-cold HK style lemon tea. The portions are generous, great for sharing or saving for later. To-go containers are $0.25 each. They accept both card and cash.
My go to restaurant when I feel like eating Hong Kong style food. I should be more adventurous but I always stick to my usual. My husband always order his oxtail over rice and me my chicken a la king over rice or baked pork chip with tomato sauce. Their portions are huge even when you order Togo’s. The food is good although sometimes depending on the cook, it’s a bit salty for me. The chicken a la king. Make sure you bring cash. It’s a cash only establishment. But would I go back? Yes. Definitely. Being go there when they had a bakery next door and they would give us 2 or 4 little sweet buns before our food came. They don’t serve that anymore. That’s how long ago I have been coming to this cafe.
Cozy little restaurant with a set daily special or you can order from their regular menu. Food is good. Most of it is Chinese American comfort food. Prices are reasonable but a bit more expensive after the pandemic. It's still worth it. Soup, main course, vegetable, rice or spaghetti, choice of beverage and dessert. My favorite is their roast pork and it is available on Sunday. Other recommendations are listed elsewhere. There are so many choices to choose from.
Cozy, clean restaurant. I ordered the Pork Chops🥩 with Grilled Onions. It came with two slices of delicious 😋 pork chops, crunchy on the outside moist & tender on the inside. Topped it off with a huge portion of grilled onions. Absolutely delicious meal!
My wife and I went for their Saturday special - pork chop and bake chicken. They were delicious. The pork chop was flavorful and came with gravy. Chicken was moist and tender. It came with corn and choice of rice or noodles with tomato sauce and milk tea or coffee. Huge portions. Two good size pork chops or two large chicken legs, enough for two meals. Great bargain. Good friendly service.
delicious and at an incredibly good price! we got the pork chop with mushroom sauce and garlic chicken chop, they were both delicious and well-seasoned. it felt very homey and traditional, and the service was tip-top. would come again!
They serve traditional and authentic HK food here! I had ox tongue in tomato source with spaghetti noodle, which was exactly how I’d like it! Super delish and really fix my craving for HK style food! The service was very prompt, attentive and friendly! They brought my milk tea and soup within seconds and my entree was followed minutes later! The restaurant is very clean, although the decor is bit dated (but expected)!
Decent food, value for money kind of place. We had the Baked Chicken w. Portuguese sauce and then find it it's actually curry flavor - it's not too spicy, just didn't know the connection between the name and the item. :) Revisited Sept 2024 Food is still as expected. Great value for money. This time we had the Sunday special - baked pork & fish cutlets+fried. I surely wasn't expecting that amount of food! Comes with soup, a hot drink (coffee or milk tea or lemon tea) and jello.
We got here around 1pm and it was quite busy. We got a seat right away. We got the Sat special salt baked chicken thighs and a regular menu oxtail stew. We both opted for just more veggies and trust us, the amount of meat for both dishes will fill you up alone. Oxtail stew was absolutely delicious. I will come back here just for that dish. The chicken thighs were so tender and the skin was crispy. The milk tea was bomb and it is bottomless with any special order. We are definitely coming back for more.
My mom used to take our family to dine in at this HK style Cafe in SF. Miss sipping on the milk tea and eating the fresh and hot bread w/butter to start a meal. I've always loved the baked tomato sauced pork chops or the black pepper pork chops shown here. Pork chops for the soul! Oh, I even miss the jello that came at the end of the meal!
Really good chaa cha teng / HK cafe with yummy daily specials, great milk tea, and a relaxing community atmosphere ! It was 17.99 for the daily special which had two different choices. I got a pork chop this time. Looking forward to trying their other menu options!!
My go to every time I come here.... baked pork chop over rice. Classic joint that offers Chinese American dishes, can be packed and that’s when I just get take out. Been coming here for years and I always leave satisfied. Definitely will be back!
I’ve been coming here since I was young and the only drawback here is cash only. The food is always quick and efficient, fair prices for tasty cooking. I usually get the baked seafood over rice and it’s loaded with seafood and baked with a layer of cheese over top. We also got the baked pork chop over rice with tomato sauce and that was also good.
Cafe Bakery's indoor dining room reopened earlier this summer. They check both vaccine card and matching ID. I had their Sept. Tuesday special, baked seafood spaghetti $15. The specials menu rotates every month. It came with a complementary borsch soup, milk tea and jello. I didn't care for the soup or the jello. I did love the milk tea and refills. The sweet and spicy wings $11 weren't bad. It had a thick sweet sauce with dried chili peppers over the crunchy, deep fried, six pieces of drumsticks and wings. They weren't hot at all. I should have gotten their other Tuesday special instead, the pork cutlet. The other patrons mostly all ordered the cutlet. Service was excellent and I'm glad they are reopened again for indoor dining.

The pork chops were moist and juicy. The meal included soup and jello dessert. It was a bit expensive, but it was worth it. The portions were nice. There was a good selection of seafood in the udon noodles. This is a place I would definitely come back to, especially since it got very busy at lunchtime.
Had a great dinner, our first time. Recommended by a friend who goes regularly. A very different Chinese restaurant, they have great rib eye steaks, their daily specials are a great value! Tuesday's curry pasta dish was delicious. We will definitely be back and the lamb is next on the list to try.
We come here on Sundays to enjoy the special roast pork. It's really delicious. I grew up coming here, and now that I live away from the city, I always stop by when I'm back. The pork is slightly salty but goes well with rice. The portions are large, so we usually share. The special meal includes tomato soup and a drink of your choice. It's definitely worth trying.

My all time favorite HK style restaurant for a taste of home. I was born in Hong Kong and the way the crowded seating works and the set meals remind me of where I am from! They have daily specials that range between $10-$11 and you get a drink, soup, bread, entree, and dessert! My favorite go to meal is the Portuguese Chicken on rice and the Cream Corn Chicken Steak. The portions are huge. Cash only and always crowded. Be prepared for a wait.
Soup (or salad) and fresh, hot buns served with entrees. We ordered the baked pork chop over tomato sauce and baked seafood. I preferred the pork chop; fried and cooked well. The sauce was fairly sweeter than expected but still tasty! Baked seafood had good mix of fresh tasting seafood (squid, mussels, shrimp, scallops)... but the béchamel was heavier than Arnold.
Hong Kong style food. Daily specials come with soup, bread, milk tea or coffee, and jello. Food has always been consistent and delicious. Never had any complaints from any of the friends and families I've taken here. Prices are fair with the amount of food you get and you get free refills on the milk tea. Knock off one star just because they accept cash only.
The portions are huge—one dish can be shared by two. To-go boxes are $0.25 each. Credit cards are accepted with a $10 minimum. Be sure to put your name on the busy waitlist. The Portuguese-style sauce is tasty and similar to curry. Choose your dish and whether you want spaghetti or rice.
The best HK style cafe outside of chinatown with daily chef specials including a choice of 2 entrees, soup, jello, and a drink. Service varies depending on the weather with Chinese aunties carrying piping hot plates to a mostly Asian clientele. My personal favorites are the smothered pork chops over rice or chicken leg daily specials paired with hot milk tea.
I only discovered this restaurant because my mom brought a to-go order home. It was a Baked Chicken with Portuguese Sauce that left such an impression that I had to bookmark and visit in person. We managed to stop in on a Saturday night, just before closing time at 8:00PM. The place was packed but we were able to get seated with 30 minutes to spare. It's a no frills restaurant with traditional Hong Kong cafe options. Most meals come with soup, veggies, rice, AND dessert! Each dish is not 10/10 crazy good but it will surely leave you satisfied.
#2 A Hong Kong café I’ve loved for a long time! Since the pandemic, many things have changed. Some businesses have thrived, while others that used to do well have started struggling. This place is one of the latter. In recent years, everything has become much more expensive, leading to significant changes in restaurant prices as well. This café is no exception. Once a spot where people would line up, it’s hard to find those scenes anymore. That said, this place is still delicious, still affordable, and still serves generous portions! They have daily specials, and they even serve jello for dessert! I love their pasta, pork chops, and milk tea—it’s all so good! #1 One place you might want to consider for a Hong Kong-style lunch cafe!! It offers generous portions and decent flavors for the price. Enjoy your meal in Hong Kong! Baked ham pasta with white sauce.
Ordered the Wednesday special for $18.95. Sole with Portuguese sauce over rice. The sauce had a curry flavor. The macaroni and ham soup was ok. The milk tea and jello hit the spot. Big lunch.
One of the few HK style cafe places remain operating in SF after 30 years of opening. There is no other similar places that can compete with their price, portion and taste of food. Not a fancy place to dine in but your tummy will not leave disappointed.
This place is my childhood favorite. The menu hasn't really changed and they still have a pretty good variety of stuff. I usually get their baked seafood or chicken steak. You can get the meal with rice or pasta. It also comes with a bread, soup or salad, and jello. They also have daily specials that come with a coffee or milk tea. While I really like their food, service can be pretty bad. I've had to check on our orders on multiple visits. Sometimes it can be difficult to get someone. The restaurant itself is pretty big. Parking is so difficult here and it can get really crowded during peak times. I try to come later to avoid the crowds and have better parking.

Cafe Bakery is clean and bright, but the prices are higher, with most dishes costing $18 or more. Every entree includes soup, vegetables, and a carbohydrate like rice or spaghetti, along with dessert, which is usually jello. The cafe can get crowded, but the service is fast. Keep in mind that the food here is more Westernized compared to typical Hong Kong restaurants.
I've been coming many times, and I love that they still serve jello with set meal combos. I enjoy their chicken steak with cream corn sauce and an ice-cold HK-style lemon tea. Highly recommend the big portions, perfect for sharing or saving for later (to-go containers are $0.25). They accept cash or card!

So first of all ordering is difficult...the menu is actually hard to find; the link on their web page is not available. I included a photos of the take out menu. Ordering and pickup is easy... just finding parking is a bit hard though since Noriega is a busy street. When you order to go, you get the soup, but no dessert or drink. We ordered and I was able to taste most of the dishes: Beef Tongue with Mushroom sauce: overall the tongue were thick cut and pretty tender. Good flavor. The mushroom sauce was more towards brown gravy with sliced mushrooms tossed in (I found a bay leaf and a slice mushroom) so, I actually think they might make the gravy from scratch. Garlic Pork chops... I did not taste this dish, but note its breaded pork chops top with fried garlic Chicken a la King: creamy, and al dente spaghetti. The cubed chicken was tender. The only thing I did not like was the large pieces of celery. The sauce was creamy, but I think a little more pepper would be needed, but that is me. I added it and it really popped the flavor. Chicken Steak with Mushroom sauce: juicy dark meat. The chicken was really good, it tasked grilled, but I did not see any grill lines. Fillet of Sole with Mushroom Sauce: OK on menu it shows it in English as "grilled" but the Chinese has it as pan fried. Pan fried is correct. The flour needed to be seasoned, but the it did not mask the taste of the fish. The fish flavor is very mild, so that is a good thing. They did serve the mushroom sauce on the side, which is a plus so the fish did not get mushy. Thumbs up for that. Baked Pork Chop with White Sauce: this is yummy breaded pork chops on top of fried rice then covered with a creamy white sauce, topped with cheese then finished in the broiler/salamander. Its hard to mess up breaded pork chop... they did a good job with this dish. Each of the takeout meals came with steamed kernel corn broccoli. It also came with some soup. The soup is a bit salty, it taste like a tomato based (read watery catchup) with cabbage added.
It's recommended for families. It offers large amounts of food and reasonable price.
Food is decent for a hefty price. Service is bland. One of the Asian women saw me and ignored me when I needed a tea refill. Luckily for me, another lady assisted me with the tea. UPDATE: 2-20-2025 Service is better and food is still decent. Beware of silly 25 cents surcharge for take out container if you don't finish your food. What a scam?

I stumbled upon Cafe Bakery & Restaurant when another spot was closed. The prices seemed high, but the generous portions made them reasonable. Each meal includes complimentary borscht soup and jello. The food was decent but not exceptional, and the wait was a bit long, with one dish arriving 20 minutes later than the first. I got the baked pork chop spaghetti, which was saucy and moist. However, the baked pork rice with Portuguese sauce was dry and lacked enough sauce. It was interesting how different the dishes were, despite being ordered at the same time.
