The brunch menu was quite extensive. I ordered the omurice rice and my friend ordered a smoked salmon omelette. Both came with a lot of protein and a huge helping of potatoes, regular and sweet. I enjoyed it. You can easily split it into two meals with a little bit of self control. Otherwise be ready to roll yourself out of there. Friendly service as well.

Came here after stopping by Sweet Maple and seeing their long line. This spot menu is somewhat identical to Sweet Maple. So.. my wife and I decided it will do for our 10th Anniversary breakfast. We joined the waitlist found directly outside of the entrance. It took less than 5 mins to wait.. we were seated. The place is cute and quaint. I love the host(ess) that sat us because the walk they had was to die for!! Or waiter Ae (nickname he gave us) was warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. He helped us make some great food choices. All good came out fully cooked and hot. I had the Ricotta pancakes meal and my wife enjoyed the omelet meal (2nd omelet from the bottom). We both loved everything. My wife never had matcha tea, so i ordered her the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte. She throughly enjoyed that. I had the Perfect Hot Chocolate with DAIRY FREE whip cream (Yes, they have this. I haven't had whip cream in years because I'm lactose-free. It was so so so good lol. I did not need to add anything. This place welcomes all! Parking is difficult tho, but it is well worth the time and wait.

We went around 1pm and had to just wait for 5 mins to get a table. The service was fast and impeccable. The food was exemplary and satisfied our taste buds. We got the sausage eggs benedict, the ricotta filled deep fried french toast and a vanilla latte and all 3 things were knock out of the park. They are really famous for their millionaire bacon so you should really try that. The vibes were immaculate as well and we thouroughly enjoyed our experience.

Food was incredible. Had the eggs with their signature Millionaire bacon. Worth the visit and worth the wait.

Has been one of my go-to for brunch in SF since 2015 when I want some thick cut bacon. Tried the Omurice today and I was shocked, it was quite a lot of food! It is basically a scrambled egg on top on a rice which was supposed to be rice wrapped in soft but fluff scrambled egg. Either way, their version is not that bad.

Castro Street is always bustling with a vibrant food and beverage scene, yet ironically, only a few restaurants are truly recommendable for locals. One of the best choices is Kitchen Story, known for its extensive menu and consistently well-prepared dishes. This morning, after enjoying a delightful bakery and coffee break, my friend started complaining about having only sweet food. Without hesitation, we headed to Kitchen Story. The fresh food, perfectly marinated bacon, and soft eggs showcased the magic happening in the kitchen. Highly recommended for anyone craving real, satisfying food!

Had the ricotta hotcakes yesterday morning and they were absolutely delicious. The fruit was fresh, the syrup was warm, and the hotcakes were perfectly cooked. Had no idea ricotta worked as hotcakes, but these are proof that it does, haha! Service was really good, too. Def one of my favourite places in SF that I visited. Would love to go back!

I've always said I never had a bad meal in San Francisco, which still stands true. Being that it was Thanksgiving day, our lunch dining choices were limited, and luckily, Kitchen Story was open and not very busy as I hear they normally are. ATMOSPHERE: The corner block restaurant features long bench seating along the wall with opposite facing seats, bar, and outdoor seating. The look is warm and modern, with a fun and loud vibe. MENU: Eggs, benedicts, paninis, hot cakes, burgers, salads, soups, curries, ribs, tacos, Thai noodles, Thai rice dishes. FOOD: Crab Benedict Holy bageezuz I've found the world's best benedict!? Not only was the ciabatta bread the best base ever, but the traditional recipe included fresh crab meat instead of ham, perfectly poached eggs, and an excellent hollandaise sauce. Rainbow (yellow, red, purple) home fries and a kim chee pico de gallo finished the oral orgasmic dish. $31 and worth every penny. Millionaire's Benedict My spouse's dish. I just wanted to try what this bacon was all about, which is usually done in brown sugar and cayenne & black peppers. The thick-cut bacon was tasty and not as sticky as I had imagined, but there was no wow factor for me. This benny featured asparagus and tomato, with the delish ciabatta bread base. SERVICE: We were immediately greeted, handed menus, and pointed where to sit, not escorted. The male server took about 10 minutes to address our table. Food delivery was fast. A female server checked on us once thereafter. This was the only downfall of the experience. OVERALL: Absolutely THE best benedict I've ever eaten and miss the French toast they used to have. Oddly, the subpar service still can't deter my rating of 5 for the food!

THIS IS WORTH THE PARKING WORTH THE WAIT!! Decent prices!! And this is the one restaurant that actually has premium quality Matcha! I’ve never been to a restaurant where they don’t have cheap matcha powder! Great ricotta, pancakes, great burgers, BOMB mascarpone French toast!! I would give this a 10 out of 10 if I could🙌🏽

Quick service. Big portion size. Ordered California burger, comes with wedge fries. Both are cooked perfect! $25 for the plate, it’s good for 2 girls to share.

went on a Sunday and it was very busy, but the servers were still attentive despite the rush. I ordered the mango chicken melt, it was a small sandwich and I was a bit disappointed considering the price, however it was genuinely one of the best sandwiches I've had, and the side salad was humongous and I couldn't finish it all. I had the hotcakes for dessert, while they were very yummy and didn't have that horrible gummy chewy taste like most restaurant pancakes do, they were slightly undercooked and mushy in the middle. the syrup could have been real but I wasn't so sure.

The best bacon I ever had!! They all were real flavory and gave me goosebumps. I liked the one and only original the best but they all were amazing and must try. The pancake was amazing too. not the ones you get bored at the end and cannot finish all.

Millionaire's bacon goes well with everything! Especially the bloody mary. Portions are huge so come hungry.

Extremely delicious. First time eating here, my younger sister recommended. We only waited for a few minutes to be seated, We were seated outside, on the outside area, it was very busy, both inside and outside. We were right away serves a carafe of water, that was good service. We were greeted. The menu was simple, we had googled it, found the pictures very helpful. We ordered French toast, California burgers , I order the salad. Our order came out fast. The presentation was beautiful, all our dishes were perfectly decorated. My salad was delicious, my son loved his French toast and my husband said his hamburger was the best he’s had. The service was good and friendly. Highly recommend kitchen story. Yummy food, clean restaurant And great service. Visited : December 2022 Wait time :10-20 minutes Reservation recommended :yes Price :$20-30 Kid friendly: yes Family of 6 loved it.

I’ve only been to the Kitchen Story in Oakland/Berkeley, and I never knew that SF had one too. I can’t remember if the menus are the same, however they do have the millionaire’s bacon. Just like the East Bay location, this one is just as busy and popping. The food quality is fantastic, and the drinks are fun. The drink I enjoyed the most was the black sesame. It came out looking unique, and the taste was sort of like a butter beer from universal studios. The ribeye omurice was decent. I expected slices of ribeye rather than ground ribeye. The New England burger was incredible. It had hints of sweetness in the savoriness of the bacon and cheese. I enjoyed the potato crisps as well on the side. It was extremely flavorable. I liked that the checks came out on books. They really went with a book cafe theme. It was very charming. The lines went quickly and the food came out fast as well. Loved it here!

We got a mix of plates: omurice, popcorn fried chicken with waffles (small) and the tater poutine. We loved everything, all the crunchiness and flavors were on point! We got served fast. The mango margarita was also a good choice! I definitely recommend going there for a brunch!

C

We got seated quickly. The food was so good! The bacon was my favorite 😋 . I had the ricotta hotcakes with banana 🍌 and walnuts. They were so good! They truly don't even need syrup. All of the food we ordered was good! The customer service was also so great! Highly recommend 📍🌁

Absolutely fabulous. We got there at a perfect time. We didn't have to wait to be seated. However. once we were there for like 30 minutes there was a line of people outside. They do get busy which means the servers are running around, but they try their best to give you excellent service. Millionaire’s bacon is seriously the best bacon. I would highly recommend it. I ordered the Belly Rancheros. It was definitely something different. The food had amazing flavor, and I enjoyed the robust flavors.

Every items on menu is really good. The bacon is must have for every plate. Its smooth sweet with rich of chunky thick pieces. Their burger is a but hard to eat but good to try. Omelette is rich of taste. Staff is friendly and great service. Cheers

Be prepared to wait for larger groups but it’s so worth it!! it’s the perfect brunch spot with unlimited mimosas (1hr)! Every time I stay in the city, it’s a must stop before heading home to Hollister. All the food is super filling and flavorful.

J

Great brunch spot! I got the mascarpone stuffed French toast with eggs, and chicken mango sausage. Everything was delicious! The staff were very helpful and quick to help if you need anything. Would definitely recommend for a fun Saturday or Sunday. A wait can be expected; but my friend and I put our name in relatively early and just went on a nice walk in the neighborhood. It's worth the wait if you're not in a rush.

B
Bashaer MG

There’s always a wait so plan to get here early (15-20 minutes on average for a party of 3). Their matcha and sesame latte are delicious ! The portions are huge and their bacon flight is good to start off with (although the citrus was a crowd favorite). Super fluffy pancakes and delicious eggs ! Definitely a hit for a brunch spot with food options for most.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kitchen Story, located on Sanchez Street in San Francisco, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. My wife and I decided to indulge in their delectable offerings. She ordered the eggs and Millionaire's Bacon, which was cooked to perfection, while I opted for the Deep Fried French Toast. Both dishes were simply divine - bursting with flavor and cooked just right. The location of Kitchen Story is not only picturesque but also very convenient. Situated right next to the elementary school where I will be working next year, I am already looking forward to becoming a regular patron. One of the highlights of our visit was the reasonable pricing. The quality of the food surpassed our expectations, making it well worth the cost. Additionally, we requested a coffee to go, and although they mentioned they normally avoid doing so, they graciously accommodated our request this time. In summary, Kitchen Story on Sanchez Street is a must-visit for anyone seeking delicious food, friendly service, and a cozy ambiance. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and stop by for an unforgettable meal.

The BEST breakfast/brunch I have ever had ever! Everything was delicious. The service was incredible. Everyone was so nice. Can’t wait to go back and try more menu items next time. This time we had a Benedict with chicken mango sausage and an omelette that was to die for! And the flight of bacon!!! Soooo good!! The coffee was good! My partner is gluten free and even the gluten free bread was fantastic! Everything! Yum!

It was a Saturday morning when we went. There were a few tables available when we arrived that quickly filled up shortly after. My friend and I both ordered the Millionaire's Benedict. She got the ube latte and I got the salted caramel. We really enjoyed our brunch. The following week end, some of my other friends went upon my recommendation and they loved it, too!

Kitchen Story is a must-visit for bacon breakfast lovers! 🍳 Their signature bacon 🥓 is a standout—thick, smoky, and packed with flavor, it’s a treat you don’t want to miss. Pair it with the Franciscan Egg Scramble 🥚✨, a hearty and satisfying dish that hits all the right notes. While the menu has plenty to offer, the bacon is the real star here—highly recommended! 🔥🥓

2018: You have to line up in the cold outside on weekends. My last wait was 20 min. The food was good. French toast was a little too much for me. But, I had an overall good experience. 2021: Came on a busy Saturday morning, they have ample seating and a short wait. The breakfast offering are similar from last visits they’ve altered some ingredients, my favorite is the ricotta pancakes! Definitely should give them a try.

J

Kitchen Story hands down has the best brunch in the city! The only downside is that they don’t take reservations on weekends, so be prepared for a wait. But trust me, if you have the patience, the food will absolutely be worth it. My personal favorite is the French toast with their famous Million Dollar Bacon—it’s an absolute must-try. The flavors and portions are fantastic, and the whole experience makes it worth coming back again and again. Definitely a brunch spot you don’t want to miss!

C

When I tell you “mouth watering yumminess” that’s exactly what I mean! Oh my goodness! The French toast look like Texas toast but with San Francisco goodness! The eggs are amazing, full of flavor and veggies and the bacon…. Well worth the calories. I definitely felt like a millionaire (hence the name Millionaire Bacon) hope you #enjoy and don’t forget to take it all in, this is your life, make sure you don’t miss the small stuff. Oh yeah! And thank the servers a little more for me, they were beyond great.

I now understand why everyone in SF knows about Kitchen Story. The hype is legit. They have an amazing menu with lots of UNIQUE options- definitely makes this restaurant stand out from other usual breakfast/brunch spots. I ordered the Mascarpone Stuffed Deep Fried French Toast - a must have! And my boyfriend ordered the Crab Benedict. We shared a side of the Millionaire’s Bacon. The French toast was quite something. I really was impressed and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The flavors blend beautifully together and it’s not too sweet. It’s A LOT of toast, so I saved half for leftovers, but definitely it’s best tasting right out of the kitchen. The bacon I wasn’t that keen of, but that’s the one menu item Kitchen Story is widely known for, so wanted to try. It was a bit too spicy for my taste, but that’s just my preference. Regardless, I definitely will be back here again and highly recommend visiting Kitchen Story if you haven’t already!

I'll just say it - this place is fantastic👌 My boyfriend and I tried many of the "must eat here" brunch places on our trip and this was our favorite. We shared the full order of deep fried French toast with eggs and chicken sausage, along with the bacon flight. Definitely enough for two people and super tasty. The only suggestion I would have is for the music to be turned down a little. Excellent service.

I came here for my birthday brunch and had the absolute best time!!!!! I had the eggs Benedict with the smoked salmon. It was so delicious! I cannot recall the dish name exactly but it was amazing. Not to mention the service on the bottomless mimosas! Oh man were they on it LOL! I loved every second here and I can’t wait to come back, me and my bestie agreed this is a must visit when in San Francisco! 🥰 thank you! -a Central Valley girlieeee

Brunch at Kitchen Story did not disappoint. The pancakes were fluffy with fresh fruit, the millionaire’s bacon was crispy and sweet, and the omelet with demi-glace was rich and filling. The real surprise highlight was the sweet butter on the toast, simple but unforgettable. Thankful that when I went, there was no wait, which made the experience even better.

If you’re craving a delicious brunch, this place is a must-try. While the outdoor seating was a bit chilly, the heaters made it cozy enough to enjoy. We found the indoor seating too stuffy for our liking, but that’s easily overlooked when the food steals the show. We started with the millionaire bacon flight, and fresco Benedict which were packed with rich, savory flavors, and moved on to the mascarpone-stuffed, deep-fried French toast—crispy on the outside, creamy and indulgent on the inside. The ricotta hotcake was a standout, perfectly fluffy and topped with generous servings of fresh blueberries and strawberries that added a refreshing sweetness. Portions were impressively large, so come hungry! While they offer bottomless mimosas, just a heads-up: it comes with plenty of warnings about overindulgence, so pace yourself if you decide to give them a try! we opted for coffee and fresh juice, both of which hit the spot It’s a place I’d happily return to, not just for the food but for the overall experience.

M

The food here is amazing if you’re looking for a brunch spot and the portions are reasonably large. I highly recommend the Millionaire’s Bacon at least once as well as the eggs Benedict. Service is a hard to get after you order and the tables are pretty close together.

Kitchen Story is a solid brunch spot in SF. We went around 1 PM without a reservation and got seated right away. The cocktails were good, and the coffee was excellent. We tried the ribeye Benedict, which was tasty and delicious, but the crab Benedict was a bit disappointing and lacked flavor. Overall, it was a decent experience, though there’s room for improvement.

T
Taylor G

We got there right when it opened on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Got the basic millionaire’s bacon order + ricotta hotcakes. I think it’s worth trying the bacon at least once bc I didn’t know you could that with bacon—sweet, spicy, RICH. It’s not something I’d crave. It’s fun to share with someone visiting from out of town though. Skip the hotcakes. They’re very pretty and don’t feel all the way cooked?? I prefer fluffier pancakes maybe Cute interior and I liked their uniforms.

J
Jawahn Ware

Fast and friendly service!! I recommend reservations (and we went a non-peak time). We took the bait and tried the millionaires bacon. Being from S. Ga paying $24 for a 4 piece flight made me shake my head but it was worth "the experience." I loved the butter on the bread with my omelet. My husband's New England burger was amazing! Oh that sweet ranch was great with his potato wedges. We left stuffed!

J
John R

Great brunch spot with an amazing selection of everything from a typical breakfast plate to more eclectic options. My favorite starter is of course the millionaire bacon flight, just do it! Also one of the best deals on bottomless mimosas at only around $25/pp.

S
Sophia Wood

A little expensive, but big portions. The pancakes were not as fluffy as I thought they would be but they were melty. Millionare’s Bacon was good, but I don’t know if I would get it again for the $13 price tag.

R
Risto Andonovski

It's a great place to visit, our brunch was good, the plates were very colorful and vibrant. Loved their omelets, the burger was missing seasoning for my taste. Definitely would recommend to visit, overall great experience and excellent location next to CastroStreet 🏳️‍🌈. First comes first serve waiting was only 15 minutes in Saturday 10:30am.

R
Rebecca Roberts

Good food and okay service. The bacon was nice and I really enjoyed the coffee! It’s quit expensive and they automatically add a 20% tip to the bill and then give you a receipt and ask for even more.

J
Jolee Evans

We’ve come here many times for their famous breakfasts but never for dinner. I’m glad we did, the pumpkin curry and Phad Thai where delicious! The service was, as others have mentioned, extremely curt and rather aggressive the last time we came to dinner (half an hour from closing time, the waiter told us 4 times we had to leave by 10:30. We had only been there 20 minutes, and agreed to the timing. It was very disruptive!).

E
Erik Schwarz

You can easily wait 15 mins or you can wait an hour. Food was worth the wait. Started off with a Bloody Mary, the downside is they puts chucks of I think celery in the mix. Wasn’t a fan but the flavor was good. Mile High Bacon flight was very good. Stuffed French toast was a good mix of salty sweet. The eggs Benedict with chicken was good but different. Certainly not the best I’ve ever.. The overall experience on a Sunday was good and the place was clean.

A
AJ F

Yummy omelettes. The delicious melt was a standout dish. However, the ricotta pancakes were a bit doughy in the middle, which was disappointing. The service was friendly, but the overall experience felt rushed. This is definitely not the spot for a nice, leisurely Sunday brunch. Come here when you want good food and quick turnover.

N
Nicholas Pun

On the expensive side for what is an average brunch spot. Cinnamon bacon was luscious though. Nothing to complain about service. Outdoor seating is acceptable. Got the belly ranchero and it tasted as described on the menu. Pretty much just straight average across the board.

J
Jadzia S

I got bacon and eggs plus a berry cocktail. Really liked the cocktail but the food came with this sweet butter that got on everything and I didn't like it. Eggs needed more salt, but the bacon was good.

T
The Eager Traveler

Their omu rice is the best part. The pancakes tasted doughy and like they came out of a box. I still rate Plow's pancakes as the best (fresh and gorgeous tasting). The millionaire bacon - better taste good - how can you screw that up :) Ambience is so cute. Service depending on which staff person you get is hit or miss. Some are nice and smiley and polite and others are curt and somewhat rude.

L
Louise Smart

Unfortunately, not the greatest experience. Had reservations, but took 30 minutes to be seated. Food came out cold, and the mimosas are more OJ than sparkling wine. The restaurant itself is pleasant, but the service is very standoffish, with no personality. San Franciscans who wait in line for breakfast places justify their wait and give positive reviews. Would not return.

R
Rosana Liu

Food is ok but unfortunately our experience here was very uncomfortable. We are two Asian women and were seated in a corner area. After being seated, we were not offered water at all and had to ask for it ourselves. When the server finally brought water, she spilled the water onto my hand. Throughout the meal, the server repeatedly checked in with the table next to us, asking “How’s everything?”, but never once checked on us. The server herself was Asian, and we were the only Asian customers in the restaurant at the time. I don’t want to jump to conclusions about intent, but the difference in treatment was noticeable and made us feel ignored and uncomfortable. Good food can’t make up for service that makes guests feel unwelcome.
