Opinions de La Espiga De Oro San Francisco
Excellent food, a little bit pricy $$ but tasty and quality is there. Do not order the rice drink save your money it tasted just like plain water.
Ask for their Guatemala Tamales (Meso-America style)! It's a different style from the corn husk version (More typical of non-tropical areas of Mexico). Their chicharron is also very good. You can use it as a meat base for a lot of Mexican style dishes, or alone.
This place place should be at the top of any list for burritos in SF. I tried the chicharón burrito and some extra chicharón ok the side for later. The burrito was excellent! But I had to stop at half because it was so rich, and filling :P good value for you dollar. Certainly earns two thumbs up from me.
Authentic Mexican and central American food at a fair price serving a range of stews and other hot dishes, the standard taco/burrito selection, and all sorts of tamales done in the styles on Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and other countries. Great feel, three kinds of salsa (though you need to ask for it or get it fron the fridge), the clientele and staff all speak Spanish with one another, wonderful stop in the Mission!
Everytime someone visits me in the city we stop for some pupusas. They're all good. Make sure to get some of the hot salsa (it's in the fridge if it isn't already out). Make sure to use the bathroom because you get to walk through the kitchen and see everything getting prepared. Quick, authentic, and cheap!
Great food, I like their variety of tamales. Perfect spot to pick up hot drinks on a cold day. You can also purchase masa to cook at home!
Simply the best carnitas tacos I've had, like, ever. All the textures and flavors are on point. Get the Honduran tamale.
This place has some really great food, and super friendly staff. I have been a few times for pupusas, they're delicious. I have tried their pupusas, their tamales, and their burritos. I would definitely recommend their pupusas: if you eat pork, get one with pork, if not, get one without (all of them are delicious). For lunch 3 of us shared: QUESO PUPUSA: served with salsa and pickled cabbage YUMMY. QUESO Y FRIJOLES PUPUSA: served with salsa and pickled cabbage YUMMY. SUPER CARNE ASADA BURRITO: Very good burrito (make sure you get super'd) CHIPS Y SALSA: You know... it's the measure of a place... and their chips and salsa are both AWESOME. Another tip: you can buy chips, salsa, and tortillas (all house-made) here.
Great, small restaurant with a range of superlative dishes. I recently dined here and had a pupusa revuelta ($3 including tax). This was excellent--crispy and browned on the outside and stuffed with goodies inside. The red salsa was a cut above a typical pupuseria with a chunkier consistency and more flavor. The curtido was crisp and fresh. They have tamales in a number of styles--Mexican, Guatemalan, and El Salvadorian. Their burritos and soups also looked popular. There isn't much seating inside, and the back half of the restaurant sells other goodies like fresh masa and baked goods. The staff is sweet and friendly, and speak very limited English.
Very friendly folks who spoke Spanish to me! Also no problem that I was on roller skates! I had coffee and pastries, haven't tried the food yet
It's delicious definitely recommend
We buy tamales to go here. I like the three kinds of Mexican tamales. They are delicious! The employees are very nice. The “atmosphere” is nice enough, you order at a window, and they bring food to you table or get it to go. The wonderful aroma of the food makes me hungry the second I enter La Espiga.
4.5 stars. Very solid but not epic IMO, shines in some areas and falls short in others. I had the grilled chicken super burrito. Great flavor, mixture, temperature, presentation, and fresh ingredients. They toast their burritos like Cancun so that earns it bonus points. Fresher avocado would have made it epic. My wife had a veggie burrito and it was quite good as well. Same area for improvement as my burrito. Salsa selection is limited to a super spicy roja salsa anda milder verde salsa. Service was friendly but a bit slow. It's definitely a bit run down in terms of decor but nothing more than your average taqueria. You're not really paying for ambience anyway. Highly recommended to try, I doubt anyone could be displeased here.
Great service. Food was good.
Pan dulce never disappoints here. They got niño envuelto, conchas, empanadas, cuernitos, etc. All of them are really good. Tried breakfast for the first time today but have been buying their pan dulce and tamales for a while now. Tamales are also good. They got Mexican and Salvadorean ones. As for the food, I tried their chilaquiles and they were really good. The salsa was nos spicy so you need to ask them for a side of hot salsa. The tortilla chips are nice and crispy, not soggy. You can taste the freshness of the refried beans and the Mexican rice. Their tacos were really good too. Don’t forget to get some chicharrón to go before you leave the place.
the tamale was amazing. they had a guatemalan style that was more expensive, but wrapped in banana leaf. the tacos were good, but the handmade tortilla was a bit too thick in my opinion.
The rosca de reyes was really good, fresh and not too sugary. And the champurrado was amazing. I would definitely go back for more champurrado.
3rd time here and and everything has been delicious today got the Chorizo Breakfast burrito and strawberry atole. One of my favorite burritos in the city
The best Caldo de Res in Mission, just the perfect mexican comfort food, the Tamales and Quesadillas are delicious too, the Elote Tamale is highly recommended.
Omg best Mission burrito 🤤🌯
Best Guatemalan tamales I’ve had in the city so far. They have atoles as well, which id like to try out in the future.

Great meat pies and pastries probably the best I've tried in North Island. I didn't try the sourdough bread but another customer said it was the best in Rotorua

First time here. We decide to try a different location for dinner. It was good but they got out orders wrong. Not horribly wrong but it was wrong. I ordered two chorizo super burritos without the egg. (We didn't want breakfast style) When we got home, both had eggs. We might try again.
I like this place, they make the food fresh after you order and takes a while because of it (except of tamales). The service is great as well. Only thing that confuses me is their vegetable tamales, from eat time I went there it was different (with few different veggies) second time it was just three things and third time it was 4 veggies all different from the first one. Though their papusas are great. And so is their sourcrout, I wish they would give more sourcrout and sauce with their orders.
Cozy and warm place to eat. Friendly staff. Reminds me of a small town restaurant that my wife and I frequent when we travel in Mexico. Food is tasty. My only complaint is they close to early. Otherwise its a good spot to grab a bite to eat.
Delicious food - if you like spicy. Chicken burrito was unfortunately too spicy for me to handle - but I'm sure there are plenty who would really enjoy it. Friend had the buche burrito and highly recommends.
I am still dreaming about the tamales I had here a week ago. It is all about the Tamales! Honestly, I just didn't like my asada taco. Haven't tried many of their other dishes yet but heard the chicken soup is the bomb.
I kid you not eating here is like eating in the Mexican Pueblo plus they give you Hardy helpings. Family owned and operated you can even see the dad walking through with his Cowboy hat & boots making sure everything is going smooth. A quesadilla is a meal for two people
You wanna get home style Mexican food? With a placita vibe, this is the place to go. It's also a nice to eat and you can people watch.
Burritos here used to be the best in SF, and are still quite solid. They take a bit longer because they grill the meats fresh. Excellent chicharron and pupusas as well. A good place to buy fresh tortillas and nopales.

Nice little spot in the neighbourhood. Decent pastries, nice pupusas, and the staff was very tolerant of our toddler. Only problem I had was a bit of a language barrier between myself and the staff, meaning I missed an item from my order as intended. Overall I would definitely recommend, and we have been here several times for a quick bite on our trip.
Food was delicious. Sides were rationed. Price was reasonable. Employee attitude needs adjustment. Great that it's open early.
Good pupusas, but not very generous on the curtido and salsa. The regular burrito is good, I like that they griddle the tortillas so they’re a bit toasty. Tamales were just ok, tons of really dense masa and the meat (we got a pork and a chicken) was kinda dry and didn’t have much flavor. The tamales needed a lot of salsa, but we had to go up and ask for it and they only gave us one.
The champurrado, many choices. Great pan dulce.👍🏼😎

At this northern Mexican semi-self-serve joint, things have changed. Maybe the food became tired and somewhat overcooked. It was really good at one point, like 8 years ago, but the wait times are long for any item not already prepared, and the orders get mixed up easy. I paid for meals and came up short on two of them - two tamales were not in the bag, and at nearly $9/each, it was insulting. Soup was missing in the other. The tamales and soup were not refunded. Service needs help. It's a hit or miss place for food to go. 2.5 stars.
Burritos are great and a step above. Carne asada was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Inexpensive but very clean with a nice seating area. They don't skimp on the avocado. Expect lots of delicious chunks. Chips are perfectly fried and fresh. Salsa is yummy. A plus is the surrounding neighborhood has gone up without yet losing its flavor. Cool bars, galleries, mexican bakeries. Very interesting street art going up towards Potrero. However, marked down for the tamales. They weren't fresh or very tasty. I'd still go there for a burritto but definitely wouldn't venture back to the tamales.
I ordered the chicharrón burrito, crispy pork rind burrito with rice and beans, they also carry carnitas and buche. The place sells pan dulce and it’s located on 24st food corridor. There’s a couple of tables where you can seat.

I’ve been getting masa at this place for a long time but haven’t been in 6 months. For the first time I received masa that was unforgiving. Fina preparada was bland dry and rubbery. What happened? I gave 3 stars because it is espiga but whoever is making the masa in the evenings should stop or you will lose loyal customers.
Over sold by one "influencer" good food but variety wise not really, as bit overpriced.

These guys use to have some delicious Mexican tamales but now they are inconsistent sometimes the “masa” is not fully cooked or the meat is very salty or no flavor at all. I loved coming here but not no more. Can’t say much about the other food I guess all I could say is don’t buy the Mexican style tamales. I stopped ordering regular food cause they take so long.
Their caldo de res always delicious but their tamal de elote was gross & I had to pay $1.00 for crema. Their was a roach behind the wall climbing on the shelves & bagged items, I was sitting in front of the menu where the cash register is near the pan Dulce. How does the health department allow them to be in business?
The food was ok. Could have been better. I placed my order to go and didn't check it before I left, and when I got home, my tamales were missing 😩 . Will I go back not sure. Be sure to check your order before you leave this place.
It was alright. I bought carnitas they where moist but no flavore. I also bought a Quesadilla which took them over 15 minutes to make. That also had no flavore. Probably won't eat there again.
The cashier esmeralda try to force a tip on my check. The super burrito looked more like a child burrito from taco bell.. The chilaquiles if you want to call it that what's subpar.. There was only two pieces of meat in there.. I will not be going back to this restaurant. For me, that was a waste of money..
The last time I was there I ordered a champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate). There were two young ladies working and one of them poured what looked like a thick clumpy liquid into a paper cup and microwaved it! If you are out just say it but to sell that is simply disrespect! When we said something they told us sorry we can’t return your money because you used a cc. I left the cup on the counter and walked out. It was not about the money it was the attitude after being called out. It used to be better and with the years service and quality of food has gone downhill. I for one will never return.
Very bad ! The soup tasted good, but the vegetables were raw and they told us that nothing could be done, because we had tried them, but how do you know if something is raw?

Very bad food and this lady was mean. Don’t come here!!!
Prices were higher than expected, and the food didn’t have much flavor. Service was fine, but overall the meal didn’t feel worth the cost.
