Opinions de Maison Nico San Francisco
I have tried many of Maison Nico’s pastries and pate en croute and have enjoyed every one! really top quality. Was just in on xmas eve to pick up a few things and I impulse bought a chocolate and almond panettone. Both this flavor and the classic were available. wow what a treat! By far the tastiest I’ve ever had. Bravo!
Top craft bakery in SF! Unique items for both meat and vegetarian options. Expect a line (around 10-15 min wait). Dine in and take out options. Packaging is very trendy and perfect for a gift.
top notch croissant 🥐- flakey and crunchy skins, buttery and soft layers on the inside. Went at 830am on Friday and there was already a line, but it moved quickly. The only downside is my cortado ending up being a cappuccino 😂
What a lovely place, I can’t believe I hadn’t been in before. Really here to say that I think I just had the best baguette of my life from Maison Nico. Oh and I think the best canelé too. It was perfectly caramelized on the outside and so soft and almost pudding like inside. Seriously perfect. Service was lovely as well, very nice folks! Looking forward to coming back to sit and have a glass of wine and enjoy the atmosphere!
Absolutely love Maison Nico. Easily one of the best bakeries in San Francisco. The croissants are incredible, and they’ve got a great selection of breads too. I always like stopping by to see what new pastries and desserts they have, since the menu changes and there’s always something interesting. They also make really good terrines and pâtés, which add to the very French vibe of the place. Make sure to show up early though, because there’s usually a long line.
Maison Nico has outstanding coffee. We dropped in around 8am when they opened, and they had a steady line throughout thr 20 mins being there. The entire location was clean, organized, and very attractive to be in. Pastries were lined up on a beautiful display, and the kitchen was buzzing. Baked goods and pastries were good but the winner here is the coffee. Easy 5 stars. Pistachio Cream puffs with choux cream Fresh quiche Pistachio croissant Iced coffee Iced latte - fabulous favorite !!!!!
Excellent coffee and beautiful pastries! The croissants deserve a special mention and we also tried the French version of a sausage roll, which was exceptional. Great spot for a casual brunch or takeaway. Seating is limited, which was the only downside but we managed to get a table on the sidewalk after a short wait.
first time, came too late to try the croissant, but got the quiche and duck pastry. i loved the duck and foie gras, not too rich and whole chunks of protein. i am impressed with the flavor of these! second time caught the croissant in the morning. very light and bread-y pastry, which i prefer to something super greasy and heavy like arsicault’s. but i’d say it’s lacking a bit of flavor for a plain croissant compared to some i’ve had in paris.
Delicious, delicious, delicious! Busy on the weekends, but worth the wait. The staff is both friendly and fast so we only waited in line about 10 minutes. The space layout and trash situation on the weekend could be better, but didn’t bother me much. Will be back every time I am in town.
Unforgettable Croissants Maison Nico is a bakery experience like no other. Their croissants are simply incredible – better than any I’ve had, even in Paris! I picked up a pumpkin croissant during my trip to San Francisco, and I’m savoring every bit of it at home. The layers are perfectly flaky, and the flavor is rich and balanced. Their chocolate croissant is just as amazing, and the almond financiers are a delightful treat. If you’re a pastry lover, Maison Nico is a must-visit – truly exceptional!

A must-visit bakery in San Francisco! The croissants are perfectly crispy on the outside with a soft, elastic crumb inside. The cream puffs and canelés are definite must-adds to your shopping list. The only downside? The coffee beans lack a bit of that rich aroma—otherwise, it would be a match made in heaven!

If you can get a table in this place, you are a very lucky person because all the dishes are fantastic. You can still hope for a table on the sidewalk if the weather is clement. All pastries and savory dishes are of the highest quality and the highest level. You cannot go wrong here!!! Of course, the price is correlated to the quality but it is all worth it!
We were lucky enough to discover this space before it became a total sensation! It’s easily one of our favorite bakeries in North Beach. The fruit tarts, croissants, and flan are my absolute go-tos, and the staff is always so wonderful to chat with. Honestly, I’d even consider taking culinary classes here if they were ever offered—hint, hint! Ha!

Came on a Sunday around 10 am and waited in line for around 15 minutes to order. The interior is super cute but very limited seating so we had to wait a while for seats to open up. Maison Nico had an amazing selection of pastries but my friend and I decided to get some classic ones- a plain croissant and a brioche slice. We both loved how airy and light the croissant was and the brioche slice was also amazing- it had a perfect sugar glaze and was super crisp on the outside yet light and airy on the inside. Both paired well with the lattes that we got!
Pain au chocolat was phenomenal. Canele was mediocre. I had high expectations for a French bakery. Seasonal croissant seemed to be a berry crumble type double baked croissant. Tasty and fresh! Went on a weekday morning with no plans so the casual atmosphere and no line was nice and relaxing. Their pate en croute assortment looked like art. Would’ve loved to try but hopefully another time.
Had a great quiche and latte here with a friend. Nice indoor and outdoor seating, although only for 4-5 parties inside. There’s always a line lasting ~10 mins on the weekend.
Food here is incredible. Very few places are baking at a level even close to Maison Nico. It is hampered by the staff friendliness and approachability. They have seem to forgotten the reason WHY they try so hard to create such a great product. To nurture and serve each individual guest.

Had a great experience at Maison Nico today! I ordered a Pain au Chocolat and matcha, and both exceeded my expectations. The Pain au Chocolat was beautifully made - so light and delicate with those perfect flaky, crispy layers on top that you expect from a well-crafted pastry. What really stood out was their matcha. Finally found a place that serves it the proper way - no added sugar at all! It's refreshing to taste the pure, earthy flavor of quality matcha instead of the overly sweet versions you get at most cafes. I was fortunate to walk in without a line, but within several minutes there was a steady stream of customers forming a queue. That's always a good sign that locals know this place is worth the wait. The quality of their pastries and attention to authentic preparation definitely shows. Will be back to try more items!
Went there with a friend on a Saturday. There was a line outside, not too long, but still took over 15 mins to get to the cashier. When we were asked what we wanted I had to ask the server 3-4 times to speak up since I could not hear her over the din. We got our coffee after another long wait. We enjoyed our food but then we decided to order another coffee. We got back in line and the stood there for another 15-20 minutes, not moving forward, because the people behind the counter were busy filling up water bottles and slicing quiche and not taking any orders. Seriously?! They were all very very nice but zero awareness to customer service and priorities. Either that or they prefer to artificially generate a line outside to make it appear super busy. The food was good but not that good that it would be worth the unnecessary long wait again.
Pretty place, friendly staff, the salad and croissant I had were mediocre…not so fresh or flavorful. But it was a nice place to sit briefly, there’s a small sitting area in side and some sidewalk tables outside.

04.18.2025. Mini Quiche. 8.50. Flan Parisien. 8.00. Brioche Feuilletee (slice). 5.00. Croissant de saison (black sesame). 5.65. I came on a Friday morning (9:30ish am) and it was pretty crowded. I actually ordered a chocolate croissant instead of the croissant de saison but the person who helped me must've heard me wrong and I unfortunately didn't check until I had already left. The croissant itself was fine. I don't like black sesame so I wouldn't have chosen that myself. The broiche feuilletee was really yummy. Nice and flaky and a perfect sugar crust. Would definitely get this again. The flan parisien was okay. The taste was good, strong vanilla, but the custard was soooo firm. I couldn't get past that texture. And finally, the quiche. I found a hair imbedded into the crust which made me really sad. I hadn't noticed until I had eaten some. The phyllo dough was beautifully flaky and crunchy. The quiche custard was also wonderfully flavored. Just very disappointed that the hair ruined my experience.

We ordered 8 things and were repeatedly disappointed. Only good bites were canele and brioche. Most pastries were unbalanced (too sweet, too creamy, lacking flavor), not fluffy/flaky, and dry. Maybe they wouldve been better heated up which maison nico doesnt offer even for dine-in. We went Sat morning when everything should be fresh but things tasted a bit stale. This made me miss Arsicault and Breadbelly :(
