This was my first visit. My daughter and I shared a large bowl of Nikutama. The beef was perfectly flavored, slightly sweet, and the crunchy tempura topping added a crunchy texture. There was plenty of parking, lots of seating, and we were able to talk without yelling. My only complaint was the tray we were given was dirty, my hands got sticky touching it.

This place never disappoints! The noodles are delicious, and reasonably priced. I like going here after shopping or just hanging out with friends. It’s nice how you can see the fresh noodles getting made and the self serve tempuras. Definitely recommend going here.

I’ve been trying to find the best udon in San Francisco and I think I found it at last. Broth with real umami depth, udon with the right texture, and, though it was not one of my criteria, at a reasonable price. Let me put it more simply: it’s just as good as what you get in Tokyo. I also appreciate the no-fuss dining hall experience, the quick ordering, and just the general unpretentiousness with a complete focus on what matters: the best damn udon in this city.

Delicious udon and the ordering process was fun that they made the order right in front of you with this semi self-serve style. The soup broth was clear and flavourful. Curry soup was tasty and flavourful as well. There were plenty of side dishes to choose from, though unfortunately, most of the time, those side dishes were cold and weren’t yummy. There’s usually a long line up in front of this restaurant, especially during peak dining hours, but they serves pretty quick, so the wait time won’t be long.

My go to Japanese comfort food Udon place. Best Udon in the Bay Area. I always order the regular size Curry Nikutama. Always made fresh and don’t have to wait long for the food and seating. Price is just right. I also been to the Berkeley location about 10 times. Taste is very consistent.

In terms of affordability, this is the best bang for your buck udon you'll get in town! The food is good, I also love how they cook the egg to perfection. The quality overall dropped a little in the past few years, I miss the days when they would all scream "irasshaimase" whenever you came in. But still a great comfort food spot, especially if you are at the mall running some errand. Expect self-serve kind of service, you go through the counter choosing your food in a kind of "assembly line buffet style" and pay at the end before sitting. Don't skip the counter with some extra toppings and cutlery!

my friends were raving over this as their favorite udon spot. I don’t really see the hype but maybe I need to try a different bowl. It is cafeteria style and I like their add on options. The dining area and where you get your utensils was very dirty. I don’t think I saw one person cleaning the dining room the whole time we were there

Marugame Udon at Stonestown Galleria is a great spot for fresh, handmade udon! You can actually watch the noodles being made right from the counter, which makes the experience fun and authentic. The menu isn’t overwhelming, so choosing is easy. Just note—you line up first before finding a seat (instructions are posted at the entrance). Once you order, the udon is prepared in front of you, and you’ll be asked if you want toppings like tempura flakes (tenkasu) or bonito flakes. After that, you can pick from a variety of appetizers (priced individually), grab a drink, and then head to the register to pay. It’s self-service inside, with a station for utensils, napkins, condiments (including hot soy sauce), and even takeout supplies like paper bags and containers. The food itself is delicious—the texture of the udon really stands out. Simple, tasty, and satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back!

When I was in line and then was at the front, me and my friends heard the employee say there was no noodles and they closed in 4 mins but it was 8pm?? I think there was some kind of miscommunication but I wish the employee would have just said to wait for them to make more noodles cause we were under the impression they were sold out?? But I was able to get Dashi Broth with Beef. It was pretty good.

This place was a big hit when it first opened where lines were formed around the block and everyone was talking about this place. Upon arrival, I waited in line for a bit, but I do not mind since I am a very patient person. Finally when I entered the shop, I was met with the aroma from their soup bases. You order in line with many options to choose from, such as you can have a plain udon, have one of their specialties or add some of their freshly fried tempura items to your udon. The vibes do give you a bit of an authentic taste of Japan. Everything was made to order which is always a plus for me. And the staffs were welcoming, well trained and understanding which made my visit a satisfying one. I recommend this place to anyone on a limited time, if you need a quick bite or if you are looking for a laid back spot. I might be back to tryout the other options they have to offer.

This branch is one of my favorite places, so I’d like to leave this comment with good intentions. 🙏 Recently, over the past year when I’ve visited, the udon noodles have been quite too firm, as if they weren’t boiled long enough. It makes the noodles not blend well with the soup and really affects the overall flavor. I kindly suggest reminding the staff to boil the noodles about 45 seconds to 1 minute longer so they can be softer and match the soup better. Thank you!

couldn’t tell if this place genuinely had mold or not and i was out with friends so naturally i got distracted and continued on with my meal, however i’ve since been suffering bad allergies since eating here upon looking back on the photo i took while at the restaurant, there were visible mold spores in the area where they make the udon. i will admit the food tasted fine but i wouldn’t recommend eating here unless you want to get sick. also the fact that they get busy and there is limited indoor seating.
