Opinions de Morton's The Steakhouse San Francisco
Strangely one of the best kept secrets in union square. Extremely talented bartender staff who will try any drink you ask for and are also quite creative. They are super friendly always willing to chat and have the benefit of working in a very beautiful restaurant. This restaurant space has evolved but it's still one of the more beautiful ones in San Francisco surveying great seafood and Tapas.
Wowza!!! This was a surprise hit in NYE afternoon. We were looking for a tapas bar near Union Square and we ended up here… MUCH TO OUR DELIGHT! It’s mainly French influenced cuisine with and extensive cocktail bar and a decor that feels like a Wonka meets Gaudi. (Jellyfish hanging lights?! 🤷♂️) The portions we small (similar to those in France) and the flavors were AMAZING!! And the cocktails were fab as well. Next time we’re in SF, we’ll likely make a bee-line right to Ula. Pricey, but worth every penny. NOTE: they build 20% gratuity into the tab, even for a party of 2. Took us off guard, so just so you know.
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant during brunch. The food was absolutely delicious, and I really enjoyed sitting at the bar — the atmosphere was great and very comfortable. Our waitress, Marina, was extremely attentive and made me feel very welcome, giving me a lot of personal attention throughout the visit. The presentation of both the food and the dessert was outstanding — everything looked and tasted amazing. I truly enjoyed my time here and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
I had the most wonderful first visit to Ula while traveling through San Francisco. We ordered the tuna steak, and it was absolutely divine – perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The entire menu felt so thoughtfully curated, and every bite was exceptional. The interior is stunning – sophisticated, warm, and inviting – making the whole experience even more special. The staff were attentive and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. I can’t wait to return on my next trip to San Francisco. Highly recommend Ula for anyone looking for exquisite food and a beautiful dining atmosphere!
Ula Restaurant & Tapas Bar in San Francisco is a Mediterranean-European seafood restaurant located at 450 Post Street, near Union Square. It specializes in seafood, grilled meats, handmade pasta, and tapas, with options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. Signature dishes include octopus salad, tuna tartare, eggplant carpaccio, and lamb chops. The interior features a maximalist art-deco design with maritime-themed décor, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere. The Jellyfish Bar offers cocktails, wine, and a casual spot for drinks and tapas. Pros: stylish, intimate ambiance, attentive service, high-quality seafood and tapas. Cons: service can be slow during peak hours. In short: Ula is ideal for romantic dinners, special occasions, or casual meals, offering a refined Mediterranean dining experience in central San Francisco.
Gorgeous place with very scrumptious food. We arrived early and we're promptly seated. The service was excellent. Had a lovely champagne cocktail with some fun appetizers, like chicken pasty, eggplant and crab cakes. Each dish was delicious and very well served. Dinner was branzino, salmon and scallops. The dishes were excellent, taste and presentation wise. Ended with a chocolate mousse. I loved the romantic vibe of this place. It was classy, the service was awesome with very thoughtful servers and the food was the best. Loved the sauces they used on the food as it had hints of mint and spices. Also many spots to click beautiful photos. Overall, a must visit.
spectacular food, beautiful ambiance, exceptional service. If you’re looking for an elevated yet comfortable dining experience in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood, Ula is a winner from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Such a great restaurant. The ambiance is fantastic and the mosaic tile ceilings are gorgeous. Servers and management were very friendly and welcoming. Great appetizers, great dinner, great dessert. Prices are on the upper end but food quality is up to par and its also on par for similar places in the city. They support the arts and are highly recommend as a visit when you're in the city or if you are attending a show, check them out!
This place is a gem! The ambiance and decor are spectacular. Service was excellent, and food was very well prepared and delicious. The tapas format allowed us to pick and choose share a variety of items. The cocktail and wine list was also top notch.
🌟 Ula Restaurant - A True Gem in San Francisco! 🌟 I recently dined at Ula and had an absolutely incredible experience. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the warm ambiance and chic decor, setting the perfect mood for a memorable evening. The food? Simply outstanding. Every dish was a delightful fusion of flavors – from the fresh, inventive appetizers to the beautifully presented main courses. The attention to detail in both taste and presentation was truly impressive. But what really made the night unforgettable was our waiter, Casey. Casey’s impeccable service and genuine enthusiasm elevated our dining experience to a whole new level. Attentive without being intrusive, he guided us through the menu with insightful recommendations and made us feel truly welcome. It’s rare to find someone who genuinely loves what they do, and it showed in every interaction. Ula is definitely a spot I’ll return to, not just for the amazing food but for the exceptional service. Huge thanks to Casey for making our lunch extra special! #SanFranciscoEats #UlaRestaurant #GreatService #FoodieFinds
We stopped in for an early “snack” and ended up staying for hours. Our waiter , Kacey, was both informative and friendly. Drinks were perfect and the food was amazing - that atmosphere was that of a Michelin Star restaraunt. Highly recommend the tuna tartar
An absolute gem of a restaurant! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every bite felt thoughtfully crafted. The staff were attentive, friendly, and genuinely made the experience special without being overbearing. Service was quick, the place was clean, and the overall vibe made me want to stay longer. Easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely be back!
Tip: sit in the bar area and ask for the special, I'm not sure but I think it changes monthly. For us it was the Champagne n sliders. I liked the smash burger option better but both were good. We also had the dessert drink chocolate cake martini I think n it was really good n boozy. Oh and if you eat the whole loaf of fresh baked bread and cream butteryoh won't need anything else. I'd come back with friends for this again.
Just let me start by saying we had THE MOST UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME WAITER NAMED FERNANDO! He was kind, caring, and attentive. He went over and above to give us AN EXCEPTIONAL DINING EXPERIENCE! FERNANDO IS TRULY AN ASSET TO THE STAFF AT MORTON'S OF CHICAGO'S SF LOCATION. I hope they appreciate him. The place was elegant, clean, and beautifully decorated. THE FOOD WAS COOKED TO PERFECTION!! .. I had the Salmon cooked MED and my husband ordered the Filet cooked MW ..... ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!! .... In conclusion I have to say that all of the staff was extremely kind and welcoming and made my husband and my experience at MOC an experience we will remember till the day we die! ... I STRONGLY RECOMMEND MOC FOR YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE!! ... BON APPETITE!!
Had a lovely relaxed night at the bar. Justin waited on me and suggested some nice options. The Shrimp Louie wedge bites and Filet mignon sandwiches were a perfect pairing. Although the filet did not come out as expected he quickly put in another order and made sure I was not disappointed. Great late night spot in the square!
We came to celebrate my birthday. I commented on my reservation that we would be there celebrating for that event and they had a special happy birthday menu printed up and put little balloon confetti decorations on the table for us to make it more festive. My husband had the NY strip steak, I had the white wine cream sauce chicken dish. Both were done to perfection. We ordered these sides; brussel sprouts, sour cream mashed potatoes, green beans. A big, round loaf of onion bread with whipped butter was given as part of the meal. We also had the crab cake appetizer. I don't prefer spicy food so I asked that the Szechuan green beans not have the Szechuan sauce on them. I ordered the truffle butter to drizzle over the green beans and it was absolutely magnificent. We used a little bit on the steak and on the mashed potatoes too. We mentioned that we were going to share the wedge salad and they split it onto separate plates for us. It was so good! The portions are all large enough to share between two people. We had the berries and whipped cream for dessert and it came with a little happy birthday chocolate on it and a candle. What a delight! Our server was a tall, blonde guy named Mike. He was very attentive to everything we needed including special instructions for beverages. He even held on to our leftovers for us while we went to the theater just down the street for a play. Now that's good service! Excellent service and excellent food!
I enjoyed every bite of my 12oz center-cut filet mignon—perfectly seared, tender, and cooked rare just as I requested. The garlic-sautéed green beans and creamy mashed potatoes were delicious. I had hoped for anchovies with my Caesar salad, and this time they arrived—thank you to the excellent server, Justin, for making sure of it! The famous cheesecake was rich and decadent, served in just the right portion. Overall, the entire experience was wonderful. Justin made my visit especially pleasant and memorable. Compared to my last visit years ago, Morton’s has truly elevated its service and quality. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Morton’s Steakhouse is more than just a meal—it’s an experience worth savoring. Without hesitation, I give it a shining five stars!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Best service, flawless steak, and a perfect Friday night date! My wife and I had an amazing Friday night date at Morton’s SF this past week. The restaurant struck the perfect balance of elegance and warmth — upscale but never stuffy. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like VIPs. Our server, who had over 20 years of experience, made the night extra special. It was our first time ordering a Porterhouse steak, and the way he presented and served it made it a true experience. The steak itself was perfection — cooked beautifully, seasoned just right, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. We also added a lobster tail, the spinach and button mushrooms, and started with the matchstick Parmesan truffle fries. Every bite was exceptional. The manager even came by twice to check on us, which really made the evening feel personal and thoughtful. Morton’s continues to be our go-to for special occasions, and this visit reminded us exactly why. Incredible service, outstanding food, and a welcoming, elevated atmosphere. Highly recommend!
This is probably our fourth or fifth time visiting this location, and every time we go, the service is outstanding! The staff is always super attentive, and the waiters even remember us from previous visits. Tonight, we celebrated my birthday, and as always, the food was absolutely delicious. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. Although Renaud wasn’t our waiter this evening, he still went out of his way to make our visit even more special—he’s truly wonderful! We will definitely be back.
The atmosphere and decoration of this restaurant is definitely one of a kind. The original lamps and decorations make you think you are under the sea. Our waiter was really kind and nice. The drink I got was a non-alcoholic one - I can’t remember the name and couldn’t find it on online menu, but it was delicious. Definitely sweet, but a great treat! We ordered a few differents things from the menu to share. Like the scallops that were delicious. The truffle fries were very good. We had a salad that had nice seasoning (can’t remember what it was). Then, we got some main plates. I got the salmon that was also great. A lot of different flavors. The desserts might have been actually my favorite thing of my experience, I really loved the tiramisu, the creme brulée and the bread pudding. Overall, the food was good, but nothing outstanding in my opinion. It was a great experience nonetheless, just not somewhere I would necessarily go back to. However, the desserts were really good and was a great way to end the meal!
Is advertised as a Tapas restaurant. Very nice decor that makes you feel under the see. Parking may be an issue. Use public transport if you can. The food was OK. Most probably won't be back.
Atmosphere is awesome. Food and cocktail were good! I ordered the black truffle old fashioned, and it was perfect. The lobster bisque was a lot thinner of a soup than I expected but still good. Dungeness crab ravioli sauce was tasty, but the ravioli were super flat. I was expecting them to have a bit more filling like traditional ravioli, I wish I could have tasted more of the crab and cheese, but the shrimp added in the dish made up for that a little.
Used a gift card for an extravagant meal. It was raining and we were coming from the South Bay, which made us late for our reservation. There was no problem moving the reservation back or getting the type of table we preferred. The restaurant was very accommodating. The food was good, the porterhouse could’ve used a bit more salt/seasoning. Shrimp cocktail was great. French onion soup hit the spot on a cold night. It seems like a good place to “easily” gather with friends.
Excellent service and drinks, steaks are good and cooked well, the house bread is huge and really good with the butter. Staff were professional and attentive. Asked for medium but should order medium rare. Get the dryage, it’s superior to the regular rib eye. We came per dress code but saw that the staff is pretty lax with the dress code, some guests were not business casual, quite casual infact, I see they do enforce no hats but that’s about it.
I really wish I could give more than 3 stars because the food was wonderful and the atmosphere was even better. However, the service was lacking. Our waitress was very kind, as were the bartender and manager. But, they forgot to make/bring my husband's drink (twice) and mine (once). They also forgot to make/bring my entrée which was the most surprising. For the price point, the atmosphere was spot on, the food was close (late and a few sandy oysters), but the service needs elevation.
Excellent service and amazing atmosphere. The restaurant is just plain gorgeous and breathtaking. The food, while visually pleasing, is mediocre at best. Everything was under-seasoned. The seafood carbonara was absolutely not worth $35. The seared tuna was more in line with its $37 price tag, but again lacked flavor and was borderline bland. There's no Salt and Pepper at the table so forget trying to save any of the dishes. The cheapest glass of Cabernet is $20. They charge for bread. This place has so much potential. They've already nailed the 20% hospitality, I just hope they can dial in the flavors to seal the deal. As it stands, it's not worth the money.
We went here on Christmas Eve so my review may be biased. The steaks were delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked precisely at medium rare. The waitstaff were definitely on the slow/forgetful side but again, it was Christmas Eve and it was very busy. Vibes were great, lots of positive energy and the moody dark lighting was very romantic.
When I arrived, I greeted the host, but without even looking at me, he said “one second.” Then, after scanning me up and down, he asked, “Reservation?” I said no, and he replied, “The bar is all we have,” before going back to his tasks. So I asked, “So I can sit at the bar?” he answered, still without looking at me, “If you want.” I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable from the start. Normally, I would have left (especially knowing I’d be spending at least $60 on a plate) but I had already told my partner I’d bring him here because we usually enjoy Landry’s restaurants. The food was fantastic (the asparagus was unforgettable), but the host’s rude and dismissive attitude ruined the experience. I won’t be coming back, San Francisco has plenty of better restaurants with great vibes and respectful service.
I picked this place solely for the decor and vibes. It was decorated extremely cute. The service was not attentive and the food was also subpar. We asked the steak to be medium rare but it came out well done. They brought out another one and it was blue rare. The octopus carpaccio was forgotten. It was my birthday and the server brought us free prosecco for toast which was a nice touch but given how long we waited for service each time, it couldn’t turn the experience around. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in years.
PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT ORDER WATER. DO NOT ASK FOR OLIVES. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. We came here because the decor was beautiful and we had heard the food was good. It was absolutely NOT worth it. First, we asked for water and were automatically given still bottled water — no clarification, no warning — and later discovered we were charged $12 for basically three glasses of normal water. Then came the bread: greasy, stale, and honestly disappointing. The server asked if we wanted olives with it, which we naturally assumed were part of the bread service. Nope. $8… for olives. Completely unexpected. And it gets worse. The bill automatically included a mandatory 20% gratuity PLUS a 5% SF mandate fee, and somehow there’s still pressure to leave an additional tip on top of that. The pricing feels intentionally misleading. We expected to spend around $80. Instead, we walked out paying $140 because of hidden charges and add-ons no one clearly explained. The most frustrating part? The food itself was mediocre at best — genuinely something I could have made at home. Beautiful decor does not make up for deceptive pricing and underwhelming food. Save your money and go literally anywhere else.
I’m disappointed, I made a reservation for valentines day and when i reserved it gave me two options regular a la carte or the valentines day special $150 full course meal. I made the reservation weeks in advance for regular ala carte. When i showed up I was seated and handled the menu for the valentines day special, I mentioned to two waiters we didnt want to do the special, we want the regular menu, they told me that this was the only option available. I was ultimately force into it the special because all other restaurants in the area were completely booked up for dinner given is valentines day and I didnt my partner to embarrassedly walk out. I wish they communicated effectively before hand, and didnt make it an option to book regular ala carte. Beautiful place, great servers but was not worth $420 we ended up paying for.
The worst $150 raw steak I’ve ever had We sat in the bar area and ordered drinks and a tomahawk steak to share. The drinks were okay but the steak was inexcusably raw and cold in the middle when we ordered a medium rare leaning more medium. For a $150 steak this is completely unacceptable and is hands down the worst steak I’ve ever had. I asked them how this could happen and if they are cooking large cuts of steak frozen. The manager assured me they don’t cook frozen steaks here….but from my cold frozen steak and the other reviews I’ve since read calling out frozen and raw steaks… that seems like an obvious lie. The kicker is that they took the steak back, threw it back in the oven and brought the now hot steak after it had already been cut and presented the first time. Not so surprisingly after waiting an additional 30 minutes our steak came back to us hot but also tough and impressively ruined a second time. No real accountably other than excuses, a half hearted apology and an offer of a free dessert which we declined due to already being there hours and running late to a show. Unrelated note, highly recommend the Air Guitar Championship at the independent. 0 stars for Morton’s 5 stars for air guitar. Never again Morton’s. Left spending $100s of dollars and still hungry
