Opinions de Ocean Ale House San Francisco
Great selection of local brews from sours to hazy IPAs to imperial stouts, it’s got a beer for everyone. Thursday through Sunday live Jazz music livens up the place. Good food and good service, friendly and fun atmosphere. Fish and chips was killer, enough to feed two. Steak and fries looked great too.
Such a great place! Great food, excellent beer selection, and always something going on at night. Live music, karaoke, trivia. This place is happening!
We were craving some craft beer after visiting the zoo and came across this place. They have a great selection of beers and food options, and the staff were very attentive and friendly!
I was planning to come here with my son after his flag football game, but then saw the crab sandwich listed in the Chronicles best places to eat Dungeness crab, so I had to try it. Extravagantly expensive, but delicious! My son loves the fish taco.
We were looking for a good food and beer place after watching a movie at the Regal Stonestown Galleria (that's another review), and Ocean Ale House came up. It was about 3 in the afternoon on a Sunday, so the place was pretty empty, but I can see how it would be very popular during prime time. Of course, all the reviews rave about the Fried Potatoes ($9), which we can attest to. It was just two of us, and we maybe ate half a serving. Did I mention it's a large serving? I ordered the BLT ($15), which was fantastic. My wife ordered the salmon salad sandwich, which I can't recall the price of, but she thought it was excellent, with plentiful chunks of fish. The service was excellent, with 3 employees periodically checking on us throughout our visit. Of course, we had to wash it all down with beer, of which they have plenty of from a variety of local craft breweries. Ambience-wise, it's pretty ordinary, but they are in the middle of expanding, so I'll reserve judgment for now. Besides, with such good food, beer and service, who cares what the place looks like!
This is a special place and has been on my list to try forever, I regret I didn't try it sooner. The food is incredible, everything I saw come out of the kitchen I wanted to try. I got the chicken wings, Caesar salad, and fish O' fillet everything was delicious. Wings were huge with an amazing crunch, perfect tang and spice. The Caesar was a special and didn't disappoint great house made dressing and 3 delicious anchovie fillets. The star of the night was the fish O' fillet pan toasted sliced sourdough, incredible house made tarter sauce, fresh beer battered cod, pickles and melted white American cheese. Just writing this I want another one. Beer selection was really good as well with some fun and creative cocktails. The service was impeccable, very attentive but let you relax and enjoy.
Ocean Ale House has knocked through a wall and expanded seating and the stage, plus outdoor seating out back. Service is friendly and really good. And the craft beer selection is great. The wings are unique.
Incredible crab sandwich—fresh, flavorful, and packed with tender crab meat. Crispy fries hit the spot, and the side salad was surprisingly crisp and refreshing. Classic dive bar vibes on Ocean Ave, with unbeatable service and hospitality. Will be back!
All round lively neighborhood hangout spot. Live band and friendly staff. Though it can get too loud inside when the band plays. This review's rating rests solely on the Whisky Sour. It's zippy like the atmosphere. So don't underestimate this sweet tangy drink. It certainly got to me quick. This cocktail alone would bring me back! 🍸

Love the food! I had an amazing Saturday night here enjoying the jazz music! The vibes were chill and we had amazing bar service from Skyler! What a lovely funny guy! Gone twice now and everyone is just so lovely and kind! The kale cesar is so freaking good and we got their special tonight the housemade corn dogs!
Went there for a private party - when I was offered some sandwiches I couldn't eat, they surprised me with a special made amazing alternative! Super friendly staff, had a great time. Bonus points for the mermaid bathroom!
I'm not new to the area, but I only recently discovered Ocean Ale House - and now it's my go to spot! Whether my family is in town or I'm just craving some wings, this place never disappoints. The staff is always friendly, the live music is fantastic, and I’m so glad it’s part of the neighborhood!!
Ocean Ale House – A Local Gem! Ocean Ale House is easily one of the best spots in town. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm, friendly, and professional staff that instantly makes you feel at home. The owner, Miles, deserves a special shoutout—he clearly takes pride in creating a welcoming and fun atmosphere, and it shows. Especially during their live music nights, the energy is always on point. The food? Absolutely top-tier Gastropub fare. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or a little more refined, they’ve got you covered. Their beer selection is outstanding, with a rotating list of local and craft brews that always impress. And the cocktails? Simply extraordinary—crafted with care and creativity, they’re a must-try. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual drink or making it a night out, Ocean Ale House delivers every time. Highly recommend!
Great staff, great vibe (music can be a bit loud for casual conversation), family friendly & great music. I always enjoy it, both on stage or in the audience.
Great food and drinks with super service from Miles! Awesome beer selection and great music all day!

Thanks to the Civic Joy Fund, I got a chance to volunteer for the weekly neighborhood cleanup event, which is known for the after event free meal incentive, but the food was too much. Portion size should have been smaller to prevent waste. But overall, food was great to celebrate the new year.
Surprisingly one of the best burgers I’ve had in quite awhile, although you’re going to pay nearly $20 for it. Staff is extremely pleasant, friendly, and very energetic, so take heed if its first thing in the morning for you! 😁 Beer selection is somewhat eclectic, but suffers from the same thing that afflicts all of California; everything is super hoppy or sour and also $8-$10 for a pour (but they are generous pours). We did not stay for the music but sounds like it is frequent. Nicely unpretentious, the friendliness of the staff stood out, even if it was a bit too energetic for my sleepy self! Worth a visit and would be a great neighborhood spot to have nearby. Fairly large food menu and I’m going to assume the items we did not try, are likely surprisingly good for pub food.
I would give it 5 stars had it not been that the waiter select his own tip which was tacky. Great food and drinks and neighborhood vibe though-we will be back!

Overpriced, beer comes out to $1/Oz if not more, before tip.... Otherwise - Solid, neighborhood taphouse vibes. Good beer on tap, great variety of indoor/outdoor seating, friendly staff. Open mic event when I was there. Patty melt was good, $16 with no fries or side. The 12 oz IPA pours for $10 is a bit whack, serve me a proper pint for $10...

Great location, and pleasant staff. But the beer choices were not great. Beer was overpriced. Street parking fairly easy on side streets. Beer was overpriced. Place needs remodeling and more staff needed to wait tables. No other choices in the area to grab a beer unfortunately. Second and last time I’ve been here. Neither times were there any live music, both times in the weekend.
I’ve always heard great things about OAH over the years. I went by recently for a couple of drinks and had a good time. But today, their food fell short. It wasn’t busy inside, and I ordered at 1:30pm so it was available quick. I walked in at 1:45 and was able to grab my order real quick. The star of their menu is the potato wedges with garlic aioli. It’s really good. The burger was just a patty melt with onions and mustard. I wouldn’t even call it a true burger as it was on sourdough. The crust on the sourdough was burnt and I had to peel it off. Last on the list was the fish sandwich. Fish was mostly batter, a bit over fried dark brown color and was dry. It needed a lot of tartar sauce to balance it out but there wasn’t much on there. The sourdough bread crust was also burnt and needed to be peeled off too. Over all too heavy of a sandwich. All that for $50 and for the server to cough on his hand before handing me a pen to sign the receipt was the cherry on top. I’ll stick to beeps down the street moving forward….
Atmosphere was fun, but food was universally awful. $28 steak was was undersized, I'd estimate 2oz raw on a good day, chicken sandwich left one in our party feeling sick from being heavy and greasy, party melt and fries were meh. In all, for what we paid, very disappointed. We should have known better than to visit. It was a holiday, and a couple of other places were full. This place was not even half full at dinner time, and service still took them forever to make our food.
Live music performance times aren't accurate!! Person didn't even show up. Already placed my drink order expecting the next person to start and they never did.
