Opinions de Plentea San Francisco
I love this place. The battering here is amazing. Chicken, pork, or shrimp are all fantastic choices. Have also had their beef option and the croquettes as well. The owners are amazing and staff is really friendly. I usually get the curry, extra spicy with cheese. Don't knock it until you try it!!!
Quite delicious curry and katsu! Ordering takeout at the window is easy, and the portions are large and price is reasonable. The katsu was crispy and not dry, and the curry was flavourful with medium spice being a good level
[Take out only] Muracci’s curry is legendary! Oddly enough, this my first time eating their katsu curry! Fried katsu (pork) cooked upon order with choice of white or brown rice. The main comes with accompanying cabbage which is pickled (yum) and there is the traditional red pickles too. The katsu is the key point though, right? Crispy, with the finest panko type coating. Delicious! The pork is flavorful and quite a thick cutlet. Satisfying the most voracious appetite, this dish really hits the spot! This shop is the only one in the city. Their other outpost is a sit down restaurant in Berkeley. I say go here and get curry anything. In fact, with a good sauce like this I’d happily eat rice & curry sauce alone. A plus: Muracci’s lets you choose the level of hotness of the curry sauce. I like that!
Delicious katsu curry! The hot is actually pretty spicy for Japanese curry too. The guy taking orders was super friendly even while being busy. It’s small with just a few tables outside so have a backup place in mind to take your food just in case.
Ever since I had Japanese curry in Kyoto I've been on a quest to find the best Japanese curry stateside. This is top 3. Actually top 2 because as I'm writing this I can't think of a third one that's memorable. The Karaage Curry is the BEST. Of course the Katsu Pork is solid (and it's THICC). The Katsu Salmon one is also pretty good, but it was cooked a little too much/high temp. But I fish is hard and it was still better than many katsu pork cutlets I've had. Anyway. Give it a chance. Or two in my case. P.S. the krokke/croquettes 🤌🏽 **Update 2 years later** Still 🔥 That is all.
Fantastic Japanese curry. This small "hole in the wall" type restaurant is quite tasty. I took my father visiting from out of town, who lived in Japan for 2 years and he loved it. We had the chicken and beef curry, but the kastsu looked even more delicious if you like your chicken or pork fried. Worth it.
The chicken Kaarage is really worth for the price, amount of food and flavour of the food + the sauces. Got the pork katsu but spicy and I think that’s why I didn’t like it. Will definitely come back to try it but mild instead. Feel that the katsu is slightly overpriced but not terrible. Also the bag is 25 cents which we didn’t need as we went down the street to eat at the bubble tea shop.
Veggie udon was a delicious and hearty way to warm me up on this cold winter day. Noodles had perfect al dente resistance, vegetarian curry was mildly spicy (as ordered), had a lightly creamy texture (starchy, not dairy) and the tofu was fresh and silky instead of fried (my preference). I only needed half the curry on the noodles so will save rest for home use. Notes: Takeout only but open til 7pm Yellow curry will stain so use your napkins strategically! To the Veggie Freaks like me: I would like if there were more veggies but that’s how I feel about most dishes like this anywhere. If I take home, I typically supplement with my own veggies.
Great curry place downtown. Big portions and really tasty. The chicken katsu is delicious. No indoor seating, so be prepared to get your food to go.
Delicious curry and easy to go ordering at the window. Ordered the hot curry which was spicier than I expected, not complaining though I liked it. Pickled veggies were a nice touch as well.
They serve boba in glass jars which is really cute They also have non caffeine versions with just boba milk and they serve smoothies including boba, like Urth cafe style For toppings they have boba, double boba, and aloe jelly I’m not 100% sure but I remember seeing drinkable mochi and salt cheese as toppings as well
I ordered from this place about 5 times and all 5 times it has been consistent and great. I definitely recommend it. Tried most of their drinks and nothing has disappointed. I also tried their takoyaki and it was delicious.
We were craving boba tea late at night and found this spot open until 11 PM! My boyfriend tried a sample of the Thai tea first to make sure it wasn’t too sweet—and it blew our mind. It was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness, exactly what we always been looking for. Bubble tea can sometimes be way too sugary, but not here. They had run out of tapioca pearls, so my boyfriend went with grass jelly instead, and honestly, it was the most delicious Thai tea I’ve ever had! Definitely will come back here again when we in SF!
Visited after seeing good reviews while visiting the city. I went with high hopes because of all the good reviews and it did NOT disappoint. I really, REALLLYY LOVE boba, so I've had my fair share of them and, no kidding, I think this place tops almost all other places I've gone to. Definitely in the top 5, maybe even 3. I had the matcha drink and since matcha is one of my obsessions in life, I've also had a fair share of them, but the drink was really good, without bitterness, and the texture of the boba was PERFECT. There was only 1 staff taking both the orders AND making them, but she did a very good job at doing both, especially making the drink part. I also really liked the fact that they give you the drink in a hard glass bottle, which is not only environmental-friendly, but also gave me exactly what I needed as I was looking to buy this kind of bottle for my house, so everything about this visit was perfect. I just wish this place had a location in the Valley in LA, which is where I live, so I can go every day.....
One of my go to's whenever I'm in the area! Highly recommend their grape fruit tea with sea salt crema (blueberry is my second choice)! The tea flavors here are better than the other boba shops. I still opt for 0% sugar, but y'all may want to go a little bit higher. Sustainability is one of their core values. They offer glass bottles at the same price. You can get 10% off your drink if you reuse it!
🧋Best Boba I had till now. They offer fresh fruit teas, super friendly staff. 🍇The grapefruit tea with was super refreshing, had a hint of cinnamon too. (Isn't that premium!) 🍊 The staff also offer sugar suggestions for the best taste for each fruit tea. Tip: Do add some sugar for the citrus fruit teas. 🐉 The red dragonfruit tea was thick without ice. Ice recommended for this one. 🌱Also, the bottles they give are great for plant propagation. 🍽️ Hardly 4 tables to sit and drink. A small bright place. Mostly gen Z people coming
My favorite boba place in San Francisco. They have perfect boba every time. The Oolong tea is my favorite , the fruit teas are a close second. Adding the sea salt crema just makes the Oolong tea with boba extra special creamy and rich. Such a refreshing treat! 10/10 their self order system makes everything easier and less overwhelming to order
Plentea was one of the items with no detail description on their menu. Since I was not allergic to any food, I could order this mysterious drink worry free. I might be wrong but I believe the type of tea was Oolong milk tea. It was layered with lightly whipped cream, Oreo cookie crumbs, and topped with mint. I chose glass bottle, 75% sweetness, and honey tapioca topping. It was not that much different from other milk teas on the first few sips. The after taste, however, was surprisingly brisk. It was very refreshing and addictive in a good way.
Definitely a must place to try boba tea in San Francisco. Unlike others place, the tea from the store is organic, which will bring more real tea flavor. Also, we can choose the milk options, which is needed for a lactose free person. We ordered the Jasmine Green Milk Tea and House Blend Black Milk Tea. The milk tea come in a little two glass bottle, which you can bring home with you and save the environment. The flavor of the tea is strong, and you will like it. The store is well-decorated, especially the small lovely trees corner next to our table. We will come back in the near future when we visit SF again.
Interesting Curry Style Japanese food. Line at lunch can run out the door and across the corner. When you ask for spicy, it is SPICY not for the faint of heart. Chicken is perfectly fried
I got chicken Karaage and ramen with hot curry and fried gyoza. The ramen and curry were great and the curry was nice and spicy and the gyoza were fresh and flavorful but I would have liked them better of they were pan fried on the bottom instead of deep fried. I would try other things here for sure so I would recommend ordering ahead of time.
Katsu curry was good, chicken was tender, curry was flavorful. I got the large karage too for $9 the flavor is good I wish they will fill it up all the way to the top since i paid for the large karage it looks like i got the small portion but in a larger container.
Had the delicious Chicken Katsu curry (medium spicy) and was oh so delicious - perfectly crispy pieces and such a flavorful curry. As of yesterday, the place doesn't offer any dining options either indoors or outdoors, so you may want to figure out a nearby park or seating quickly to consume it while it's hot!
They say it is cheap. Well that is only to SF standards because I don’t find it cheap. Food is really interesting taste wise. Staff is friendly and food prepared to order quite quickly. Location is off tourist places and surrounded by many other cafes. Inside very little place for dining. Good for take away. Has toilet inside and no wifi.
I’m a regular but lately, there has been some deterioration in food quality. I usually get the curry pork cutlet. The pork was fried to almost brown (maybe they don’t change the oil that often being so busy). Prices have really gone up so I hope they give customers a break.
Got a medium spicy katsu curry and was fairly spicy! So if you are unsure, err on the lower side! Food tasted good, nothing super special. Not the worst curry I've had, but also not the best. Fairly liquidly curry, not thick at all. This is also one of those pick-up only locations, so don't expect to be able to sit down and eat. You order and pick up at the window.
The vegetarian curry sauce is good. However asking about if the tofu and vegetable curry has potatoes the clerk said "I don't think so, but you can order them as an add-on." I did that but it seems from other photos potatoes are already included so I paid the extra charge for no reason. Overall it was pretty expensive for curry ($25). I don't like that it's takeout only and you can't really tell that from the photos of the food on the reviews.
Ordered a Katsu Curry for dinner via DoorDash. The curry was subtle and good. However, the katsu was flavorless and unseasoned. I loved the pickled vegetables though! I probably wouldn’t order again.
Ideally, I'd give it a 2.5/5. Plentea has a charming atmosphere. The shop itself is small but inviting, with terrariums lining the walls, adding a touch of nature. They offer a wide variety of drinks, from classic milk teas to fresh fruit options and even smoothies. You can also choose between getting your drink in a reusable glass bottle or a standard plastic cup, which is a nice eco-friendly touch. Unfortunately, my experience with the actual drink fell a bit short. I opted for the Thai tea, a classic boba flavor. While the presentation was nice, the taste was a little disappointing. The tea itself was quite bitter, and there was a slightly chalky aftertaste. Overall, Plentea is a cute spot with good intentions. However, based on my experience with Thai tea, the flavor execution needs some work. If you're looking for a trendy boba shop with a wide variety of options, Plentea might be worth a try. But if you're a boba purist seeking the perfect cup, you might want to keep exploring.
Good atmosphere, great decor, I was amazed on how this place looked before I walked in thinking I’m getting the best boba ever, got the taro drink, uses “real taro”. I don’t know if it was me but that drink was disgusting, i honestly love taro drinks but I couldn’t finish this one. It tasted like expired milk and not sweet at all it was flavorless. I had to throw it out :(
I would like to give zero star for this place. I ordered 30 minutes ago online but had to wait in line for pick up. I asked for a bag for this take out but they said I didn’t order the “bag”. I had to say every time I ordered here I was offered a bag when picked up. I was being treated differently today because I saw others pay without a “bag” while I stayed in line but they still were offered a “bag”. And the ladies gave me extremely bad attitude I wouldn’t come here again.
They advertise upon return of 10 bottles, we get a free drink. It was very unprofessional of them to give the drink in the old dusty bottle that was returned. They should stop advertising if they dont like to offer customers good and clean drinks. Very disappointed with the service. Check on the bottles if you are taking drinks in the glass bottle
Today, I bought some matcha, and to my surprise, while chewing the honey tapioca, I suddenly felt a big crunch in my mouth — like biting into ice. I checked and realized it was a piece of plastic or glass, I’m not sure which. At first, I thought it was just one piece, but there turned out to be several of them throughout the drink. Whatever it was it poses a big risk on the consumer
