Really good coffee (the owner roasts them themselves) at a very reasonable price in the Potrero area :) I also appreciate the warm and friendly energy the staff bring to every interaction, even early in the AM. I also love their baked goods, which I believe they source from a local bakery!

The cappuccino was absolutely delicious, and the cookies were the perfect match for my little coffee break. The fact that the coffee is Colombian made it even better! The place is beautiful, and the service was outstanding. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Delicious coffee and pastries, affordable prices, super friendly staff, a commendable mission, and a beautiful space — what more can you ask for? Service / ambiance: This lovely little coffee nook is tucked into the lobby of an apartment complex. There’s a ton of foot traffic from both the patrons and residents, but that helps give Progeny a truly neighborhood / community feel. Many of the residents also seem to be frequent patrons, and the staff at Progeny frequently greets folks by name. Even if you don’t live here, the staff is still plenty friendly. They offered great recommendations on what to get (one of the first baristas who really delivered on my request for a sweet treat that wasn’t too sweet). You can sit at the collection of tables in the apartment lobby, which includes a set of giant steps and huge windowsill bench. It’s all a bit unconventional but very cozy. They also have access to the building’s WiFi, so you can easily spend all day here. Food: Outstanding coffee and snacks, all of which is pretty affordable priced. I got an americano and black sesame mochi cake, which came out to less than $10…honestly unheard of in much of SF. The americano was outstanding. Progeny is focused on ethically sourced Colombian coffee, and you can really see their love for the country and product in every cup. The coffee is fragrant, slightly fruity, but not overly bright. It went wonderfully with the nutty, not-to-sweet black sesame mochi cake.

I was wowed by the quality of the drinks. I tried the espresso tonic with orange blossom syrup and my friend had a matcha. Both drinks had and amazing flavor, i need to come back and try more of their drinks. The place is very nice to have a date or come with a friend, there are some seats inside and a few tables outside so you can either stay or take a walk around the neighborhood. I recommend stopping by if you are waiting for your caltrain!

So friendly and welcoming. The staff are some of the nicest people, and the coffee matches their bright personalities. The coffee is top tier, and they ask that you tip the farmers because they pay their staff full wages. Excellent pastries. The well lit seating area (both indoors and outdoors is beautiful and clean. I really love this place! Excellent espresso.

Progeny Café is hands down my favorite coffee spot in San Francisco. They serve exceptional Colombian coffee sourced directly from sustainable farms, ensuring the highest quality in every cup. I absolutely love their oat milk cappuccino with house-made vanilla bean—it’s perfection! They also have some freshly baked pastries everyday and my favorite are the sweet challah buns. Grab a coffee and a bun it’s the best combo 🌞 they also have a very cute terrasse to enjoy the Californian sun, it’s the place to be!

I won’t be drinking regular lattes anymore after trying Progeny’s signature drink- blueberry latte! The blueberry syrup is made in-house and SO delicious and totally not what I expected. It’s perfectly sweet but still has that subtle blueberry tart kick that compliments the coffee so well. Will definitely be my go-to drink! I love Progeny’s entire mission of revamping the fair trade of the coffee industry. Progeny is new to the neighborhood but not coffee. John and Maria have been on a mission to put coffee farmers at the center of their mission and it really shows in everything they do. From featuring the individual farmers on every bag to the mission statement being front and center at the counter, you can tell they really care about the community they’re building. If you want freshly roasted Columbian coffee and amazing freshly baked French pastries while supporting the coffee farmers in Columbia, look no further. Highly recommend the pour over, blueberry latte, and the challah.

I had the pour over, sampled the Ambición, and tried the Specialty Housemade Blueberry Latte. Everything was incredible, and you can tell how much thought and soul is poured into every cup. Coffee isn’t just life, it’s love. Coffee farmers all over the world are exploited, and Progeny’s mission is to break that cycle. I got two hyper high quality bags of beans sourced directly from the farmers- Contento and Armonia - to support the mission and plan on returning here to get my beans on the regular.

Love this cafe so much! Their dedication and commitment to their farmers is unmatched. They partner directly with farmers, focusing on those facing challenges, and reward their hard work by paying equitably and above fair trade pricing which is incredible! You can really tell by their coffee selections and the owners’ vast knowledge of coffee, where and WHO they were sourced from, and so much more. Also, the owners are some of the sweetest people ever. Ever since I came in before they were opening to chat coffee (since I love coffee myself and make a lot of home cafe videos on social media), I always get the warmest smile and greeting every single time I visit. Such a joy speaking with them! Of course their brewed coffee is so good. I’ve tried their espresso standalone, drip, flat white, macchiato – all amazing. I just treated myself to a Sunday iced blueberry latte and it was incredible - perfect balance of blueberry, coffee, milk - all working together so harmoniously well. Love the vibes too! Great music, decent seating as they share the space with an apartment complex, and wonderful baristas (ALL of them, not just the owners, are so great to talk with). Great and much needed addition to SF, despite the abundance of coffee shops in Dogpatch, Progeny stands out :)

Just visited for the first time and I love this place so far! Customer service was great, the guy also me a blueberry latte with macadamia and I’m normally nervous with lattes and simple syrup as it usually tastes artificial and way too sweet but this was the perfect blend. Will be coming back and bringing friends.

Layout & design is not hostile but obv not for lingering. The coffe place across the street is better overall. Progeny has a 4.9 rating yet seems 4.4 would be more accurate. This is SF so the bar is high.

I arrived at 3:30 and the person behind the counter told me she couldn’t serve me. I asked what time they closed and she said “4:00 but they’re not going to pay me overtime.” The cafe is totally empty and she didn’t even know what I wanted to order. This was the Progeny at the Van Ness and Mission location, not sure if my review is linked to the correct location.

Do NOT order online!!! Worst online experience ever. The coffee is good, so I ordered some online but never received the beans. Contacted the company via email twice, no response. Eventually I had to call my credit card company to invalidate this transaction. Total waste of time.
