Absolutely blown away by the experience at Shizen. This place completely redefined what plant based sushi can be. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and bursting with unique flavors. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is warm, cozy, and lively, making it a perfect spot for a date night or a dinner with friends. The staff are also incredibly kind and knowledgeable, always happy to guide you through the menu.
Delicious vegan sushi that actually delivers on flavor! The Dynamite Roll (10/10) was the highlight, followed closely by the Roasted Bell Pepper Nigiri (9/10). The Shishito Peppers and Candlestick roll were also solid (8/10). The price point feels high given the portion sizes, but the technique is impressive and it gives vegans a genuine sushi experience. Highly recommended for the execution, especially if you don't eat fish.
This vegan sushi restaurant is outstanding, offering an amazing experience. Everything was absolutely mind-blowingly delicious. I would love to eat here every day. The service was wonderful, and everything arrived impressively quickly considering the restaurant was full shortly after opening. Reservations are required, and we'll worth the wait. The menu, atmosphere, and interior design are A+, 10/10
The best vegan sushi I have ever had. And unique! Each plate was a little experience. The mushroom miso soup was comforting. My onky nitpick was the person waiting our table was a tad aggressive on the upselling, encouraging us to order only the more expensive items and more than we needed. We found 1x specialty role each to be plenty.
Reservation required! One of the best gems in the city for vegan sushi. Amazing ambiance, service, and decor. Lot of great options - highly recommend the Boddy & Souli, and Candlestick sushi. Don't skip their dessert of the day!

You wouldn’t even know it’s vegan. Do not sleep on their nigiri—that okra was fire! Everything came out beautifully, quickly and most importantly insanely delicious. How we lucked out with two open seats at the bar when we arrived must have been devine intervention because that meal was HEAVENLY!
One of the best vegan places I've been to. Get your reservations a week in advance. The speciality rolls had an incredible balance of flavours. Try the Candlestick, Secret Weapon and Boddy and Soul, and thank me later. Neatly kept place with great service. Would absolutely go back given an opportunity.
One of my favorite spots for celebrations like birthdays or anniversaries is Shizen. Reservations are a must, as spots fill up quickly. Their vegan sushi is absolutely mind-blowing. I’ve tried so many different rolls, and they’re all incredible. It’s pricey, but the quality of the food makes it worth it.
One of my favorite restaurants in SF. Amazing plant-based, non processed, organic and locally sourced food, beautiful atmosphere, vibey ambiance, attentive and sweet staff. 11/10. Great for date night, a friend link up, or even a stop for dinner after work. Sitting at the bar vs the dining room is a different experience. Ask for the dessert menu! The red bean mochi donut is incredible.
We visited as a group of 3 and ordered multiple dishes including body and soul, candle stick, hidden agenda, mango something and more.. The food not only looks but also tastes yum. With a blend of textures to flavors you'll like bow these are layered. We got the bar sitting as we did not plan in advance, recommended for getting a table. But if all you care is about food then feel free to walkin for the bar table. It was my first visit here and all the names I've mentioned here are must try. Keeping short and crisp until I visit next..
Absolutely loved my experience at Shizen. Visiting from NYC this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had! So many awesome options to choose from and so unique. Friendly staff and great atmosphere as well. Will definitely be back!
All vegan Japanese restaurant that has celiac-safe GF options - wow! Super excited to try this place so when I was in the area at 4:15 last Sunday, having missed lunch, thought I’d stop by. Was surprised to see there were already people waiting for it to open and the line was quite long when it opened at 4:30. Reservations are recommended but we were lucky enough to be accommodated. A charming dining area, albeit not a ton of elbow room. Seating options include tables up to four, up to two, and a small sushi bar. The waitstaff were very friendly and responsive and helpful with recommendations. Food wise, everything was good, including the miso soup and yuba salad, but the rolls are where the magic is. They’re all beautifully crafted and presented. We tried the California roll (great!), sweet tofu nigiri, Missing piece (made GF), and Boddy and Soul (recommended, and a winner by my dining partner, but not GF). It was a real delight to enjoy such delicious food, carefully created, crafted, and presented, making it a multi sensory treat. Wish there was a GF tempura option to make more of the rolls available to celiacs, but I loved what I had. Definitely recommend the fun, relaxed, down to earth atmosphere and uniquely Japanese vibe. Think stylish onsen, an indulgence where you leave feeling fulfilled, healthy, and happy!
I really enjoyed myself here! Definitely scratched my itch for sushi! This is a great place to go for vegan sushi. The food that I had was excellent and it tasted amazing! Definitely loved the body and soul roll! I didn't take any pictures of the other items I had because I ate them too fast! Great atmosphere and drinks also! Would definitely visit again! Thank you for a great time!
Everything about Shizen was incredible! We sat by the sushi bar and were in awe at the skill of the sushi chefs and the sushi they serve! Will definitely come back next time I’m in SF!
Definitely worth the trip! Traveling from a small city without many veggie sushi options and entire restaurants focused on vegetarian menu was amazing! The dumplings were good; the avocado was great with the beet aioli on top — a nice surprise; but the highlight of the evening was the boddy and soul - it was umami of flavors with spice, saltiness and was delicious!
Such a hot spot for a reason! It’s an all-vegan menu that’s DELICIOUS. My vegan partner was overwhelmed by choice. We got tea (small), shishito peppers (ok), green mango nigiri (amazing), three speciality rolls (yummm), and dessert (would pass on this and get another roll next time). Our entire order ended up a little over $100. And just FYI the habanero sauce is no joke. Very sweet staff and clean bathrooms. Would go back and would recommend.

This was a very great dining experience. Everything the staff, the food, the atmosphere. The food comes out as things are ready which gives the table an opportunity to sample things as they are fresh. The rolls were innovative and delicious. Every bite a flavor explosion. I had two none vegans at my table and they thoroughly enjoyed the meal and felt satisfied.
Recommended by a family member and what an amazing spot!!! We got super lucky with being seated by walking in around 9pm on Saturday night. The team was super helpful in accommodating us and requested we be ready to order as soon as we are seated. We ordered a bunch of different roles along with tempura and tofu appetizers. The ambiance and comfort in this restaurant is very inviting which made the experience that much more fun. Ohhh and their hot sauce is AMAZING which is homemade!!!!

We had a good experience at Shizen on a Sunday night. We managed to get a last-minute reservation and were impressed with the food and ambiance, though the service was just okay. We could not find street parking, so we opted for the paid parking lot next to the restaurant which was 20$. Coming to the dishes we tried: Boddy and Soul: 5/5, this was best amongst the dishes we tried with great flavors. Open invitation: 5/5, looks great and tastes equally good. Sweet potato roll: 4/5, this classic roll was good but felt the specialty rolls were better. Mushrooms and Gyoza: 3/5 both were underwhelming and a bit bland.
