Today was my first time trying this place and getting the authentic Dim Sum experience and I'm definitely not disappointed 🙃 From service to food, everything was seamless and delicious Will definitely try them again soon 😇
We loved this place! As soon as you sit waiters with carts start to offer you great dishes, everything we ate was extremely tasty and the whole vibe was very cool and authentic.
Every time in SF I eat dim sum. Yank sing is one place I always find myself going back to. Great fresh dim sum. Fast service. Minimal changes each visit. Baked pork buns only on the weekend. Delicious. Good idea to make reservations.
Loved the food. Quite expensive though. Could do with improvement in service. Basically too many people not enough service attention! Young Asian wait staff was very observant and managed to direct service staff as needed. Service staff were a little slow! I've had yum cha in 🇭🇰 and 🇦🇺 and they were exceptional! Service staff circling constantly and attending to ones needs.
Wonderful Dim Sum experience all around, we made reservation and was seated promptly after we check in with their wonderful hostess, every dim sum table that approached our table were filled with wonderful delicacy and kind staffs who walked us thru their selections, food served hot and tasted fresh, we had a great time and didn’t felt rush at all at any moment, we will be back.
Came here for a private event. Better to take public transit than find parking down here. There was an hour portion of wine and appetizers. I thought it was good and did not feel greasy but the oil did go through the napkins. Otherwise good was good through dinner. Egg tarts and sesame balls we’re excellent.
I came to Yank Sing for brunch with my father in law and we were both so impressed! The food was absolutely delicious, every dim sum item was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You can really taste the high quality in every bite. The service was excellent as well, attentive, friendly, and efficient even though the restaurant was busy. It was such a great dining experience from start to finish. I highly recommend Yank Sing to anyone looking for top notch dim sum and outstanding service!
OMG, absolutely loved this place! The staff is incredibly friendly, and the service was super quick. We tried the savory vegetarian dumplings, snowpea dumplings, mushroom dumplings, and spinach dumplings, everything was delicious, especially the savory vegetarian ones were our favorite, so full of flavor! We also had the egg fried rice, which was great, and for dessert, we tried the Lychee Torte, loved it! It had a unique mix of popsicle or ice cream cake vibes with a cheesecake-like base. A 10/10 must-try spot for all vegans and vegetarians!
OMG TOP NOTCH!!! I was so amused they still have traditional dimsum cart, thts not even exist in most of the dimsum place back in Hong Kong! They also still have a lot traditional dimsum, such as the taro dumpling! All the dimsum are super nice and authentic definitely recommended to everyone! Not forget to say they have their own chilli sauce!
The last time we ate here was over 10 years ago. My wife and I still remember this place because the food was very delicious. We just had to come back since we are visiting SF with the family. I highly recommend to try everything, lol. The food is very flavorful. Make sure to make room for the Sesame Balls and Egg tarts. We waited about 30-40 minutes for a party of 4 adults and a baby. It's a bit pricey, but then again your in SF. It's worth it. The bathrooms are very clean. 5 stars all the way. Great food and service.
I visited here twice in one week and tried many dishes—everything was really delicious! The shrimp siu mai and xiao long bao are must-tries, and the scallop siu mai was a pleasant surprise since I had never tried it before. The steamed spareribs were the best! Highly recommend! The food is just as amazing as restaurants in Asia. The atmosphere was nice too. Loved everything, definitely recommend!
I have been to Yang Sing at this location since the early 2000s. Being a vegetarian, I found enough options to eat and I love the whole push cart experience. When I went there a few months ago, there were no push carts and I was disappointed. However, it was back this time. We ordered all the vegetable dimsum and we liked them all. The savory vegetable was our favorite. The sesame balls are always the best way to finish the meal. Their fresh brewed tea at the table in a beautiful teapot (herbal tea) is another thing we all had and loved
Yank sing has authentic and tasty dim sum while also being clean with a nice ambience. The pork spare ribs and har gow were good. I love the chilli oil which is mildly sweet, not spicy and has a lot of soybeans. The fried curried shrimp wontons were light and crispy and not too oily. The xiao long bao was a little different from the ones at other places. The broth had some additional aromats but I couldn't say which. Service is efficient and a little brusque for the fine dining prices. The food is good but for what you get prices are steep. Dumpling home/story is still my go-to.
It’s a clean and tasty restaurant for dim sum, though not everything was deeply impressive. The portions felt a bit small for the price, and a few of the female staff members came across a little brusque. Considering how expensive it is compared to other dim sum places, I rated it by fine-dining standards. It’s definitely an upscale restaurant, but it doesn’t quite reach the level of the very top establishments. As far as I know, it was only once mentioned by Michelin back in 2016.
Stating a journey with dim sum does not disappoint. The restaurant gave 80s/90s dining hall decor that enveloped me with a reassurance that the meal would have a fun time. I am unsure when peak hours, but I went after 1 pm and had less than a 10 minute wait. As soon as I sat at the table, one of the aunties rolled by with the cart in no time. The photos did not load in order.. but the first dishes I started with is the oboe with 3 bamboo steamers: shrimp dumpling, scallop nosy NYE and my favorite the chicken mushroom dumpling. On the table there is soy sauce, house made chilli oil and mustard sauce that you can mix on your plate. I needed a vegetable and I ordered the chilled snap peas which they topped with a light soy sauce or something similar. I ordered the crab claw from the hot cart and there is two per order. They are not easy to grab with chop sticks and come with their on sweet and sour slice and even though it’s a fried ball it is stuffed with crab and the surprise is the crab claw middle. I was full, but heard one of the servers mention that the last of the soup dumplings were coming out.. those are the Shanghai kurobuta pork dumplings and are their number one seller, that came with a vinegary sauce and I’m thinking thinly sliced radish. It was amazing, my biggest problem was I didn’t have a friend to share with so I could order order more. I would have like to try the crispy tofu or other items on the menu, but I enjoyed the cart options. What isn’t featured well so that they serve alcoholic drinks, but I ordered a hot jasmine tea.
The food is quite good and usually fresh, love the chrysanthemum tea. However, the hosts really can’t seem to do their job well. We went late on a Sunday and half the restaurant was empty while a crowd of people outside. Kept seeing staff with carts of food go by with no diners to serve because of all the weirdly empty tables in the main dining room. If we came back, we’d definitely make a reservation but it’s a bit hard to justify the price point and mid service/long wait.
When in San Francisco, my spouse and I will jump at any chance to eat Chinese cuisine as there is a depressing lack of it back home on Maui. We texted a friend who remembered the place he enjoyed so much, so here we were. ATMOSPHERE: Located in an alleyway-like side street in the Embarcadero, it's not a huge place, but sports a good number of indoor tables along with a covered outdoor patio. MENU: Dim sum and traditional Chinese (ask for additional menus). FOOD: Peking Duck with Bun I thought I was getting a plate of duck but instead received a single bao bun which I don't care for. It was very mainstream and came with the traditional sauce and veggies. Mushroom Dumpling The server said they were shrimp and mushrooms but neither could be detected. It had the taste and consistency of fish cake and needed shoyu for flavor. Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce AKA choy sum. They were served chilled, a first for me. Good portion, fresh and steamed perfectly but could've used more oyster sauce drizzled on top. Potstickers (6 pcs.) Pricey but they are of the larger variety and stuffed full with a savory pork mixture. No sauce was available sans for shoyu, vinegar and chili oil. Honey Baked Seabass Holy pricey for the portion size!? The small, boneless filet was insanely tender like butterfish and finished with a slightly sweet-savory honey sauce. Very tasty but not worth the price. Minced Chicken in Lettuce Cup That's right, just one leaf of an iceberg lettuce will set you back that much. The chicken mixture was generous in portion size, tasty and included pine nuts, shiitake mushrooms and bacon. Shanghai Kurobuta Pork Dumplings (6 pcs.) Sold as their house specialty, be careful when consuming them as they squirt out juice. It's best to pop the whole dumpling in your mouth. Inside is a small helping of pork mixture surrounded by its steamed juices which were light in flavor. Chicken Feet I got about four feet, chopped in halves and finished in a non-spicy chili oil sauce. Tender and tasty but I've had better at Legend Restaurant in Honolulu. Pork & Shrimp Siu Mye (4 pcs.) We couldn't detect the pork, but the shrimp was visible. Moist but bland. Pass the shoyu, please. Egg Custard Tart (4 pcs.) My favorite Chinese dessert! The crust was light, flaky and buttery. The custard was filling was very good. Orange Jello (4 pcs.) I have no idea how they make these, but orange-flavored Jello was cleverly molded onto actual orange skins. The Jello consistency was thicker and more gritty than traditional Jello. The flavor was refreshing, almost like actual orange juice. SERVICE: Everyone was so professional and patient, unlike your typical Chinese joints. No pushiness or short-talk, but very welcoming and friendly. OVERALL: Quality cuisine but very light on flavors. Severely overpriced. Great service.
Does not live up to its hype. Yank Sing in San Francisco falls short of its reputation. I went in expecting top-tier dim sum but found it underwhelming, especially compared to my local Dallas spot, which is both tastier and more affordable. The food was a big disappointment, lacking the vibrant flavors and freshness I anticipated—I'd rate it a 2 out of 5. The restaurant itself is well-maintained and has a pleasant design, so I’ll give the atmosphere a 4 out of 5. Service was solid and deserves a 4 as well, but several menu items were unavailable, adding to the letdown. Overall, while the ambiance and service were decent, the food and limited menu options didn’t live up to the hype, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to return."
Too expensive for the taste / flavor. Most of the dishes I tried tasted under seasoned. The only thing that was good was their chili pepper sauce. No cheung fun (rice noodle roll) at this location. Lotus Wrapped Sticky Rice: Felt too wet and lacked flavor. The rice wasn’t sticking to the leaf Shrimp Har Gow: Nice and plump, but not juicy and moist. Lacks flavor Siu Mai: nice and firm, but lacked seasoning Egg Tart: Mediocre egg custard. Has a flaky crust
