They allow dogs just before happy hour ends, so I love It!
Great place. Awesome staff. Good spot to watch sports events
This bar is awesome! They have great daily specials, pool tables for entertainment, plenty of TVs, and a great atmosphere :)
Amazing irish bar with rotating beers, trivia. Good place for sports and enjoy people on the outdoor patio
Solid sports bar in the inner Sunset. Good draft list, and good place to catch a Warriors game.
This is the place in inner Sunset where you can hangout with friends and watch match. Drinks are good and best thing is you are allowed to bring outside food to eat
Great bartender. Great atmosphere. For the millenials (i.e me) 10/10 would go again.
Great neighborhood bar. Good beer selection. Bartender was really friendly.
One of the best Bloody Mary's in SF. $9 special on the weekends. Highly recommend
Dope spot. Comfortable feel like a neighborhood dive bar but way cleaner and sophisticated.
Good bar, friendly atmosphere. Nice patio out back
Pretty incredible "dive bar" that has a lively crowd and ample space for groups.
Great neighborhood sports bar with tons of TV's and super friendly bartenders.
Good whiskey selection. The bar tender was on point as was the music selection.
Great spot with stiff drinks and a patio out back. My go to spot in the Sunset.
Excellent place for drinks 🍸 and to hang out. Highly recommend.
I live in the area, and this bar is my go-to on Irving. Great drinks, great service, solid vibe. Will continue to frequent with friends. 🙏🏼
Always a fun place to enjoy a drink! Pool tables for those who like to play, plenty of seats (inside or outside) and bartenders who know how to make every drink 🍸 Go and enjoy!
Really great atmosphere and service! Perfect place for a second date or a hangout with friends! They've got different types of games you can play AND Kareoke on tuesdays!!!
Solid bar with copious amounts of TVs for Bay Area Sports, and a couple pool tables. There is a decent selection of beers and the patio outside is quite lovely.
Great bar, upscale Vibe, but not stuffy. Large selection of whisky & draft beer. Big smoking patio out back.
Excellent bar. You can order your own food from outside. It can get quite packed and busy and they have a cool outdoor patio
Great pub with even better Guinness! Amazing service and atmosphere.
Best whisky sour cocktail
Best Guinness, I’ve never seen any other bar take such pride in their Guinness
Great new bar. The staff is very friendly, comfortable, Great cocktails.
Can't rate the food as we didn't eat. However, it was a very laid back enjoyable place for a drink. Extra plus because they had good na options.
Great Irish pub with a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, fun cocktails and good beer selection!!
Great Guinness, better vibes!
Great local sports bar that has a plethora of beers on tap as well as a rotating list of cocktail specials. A perfect location to watch the big game or big fight. They also have two pool tables and a small outside space in the back. Arrive early for boxing and UFC fights to ensure you get a good seat.
Great crowd and bartenders. Especially like the outdoor patio...you can bring your dog and hang out or enjoy a smoke with a drink. Plenty of TV's and a pool table. You are welcome to bring outside food in. Bartender Tommy makes the best drinks!!!
I was very impressed with the covid safety of the outdoor parklet. They have a system where you can sit and order drinks if you bring food from a nearby restaurant. We ordered from Manna across the street and were able to get seated at Blackthorn while we waited for our food. The waitress was very helpful, letting us know about each beer we were interested in and which ones were similar. She wore a mask the whole time and presented our beers in plastic cups on a tray. They had a TV playing sports and our dogs were comfortable in the seating area with us. Definitely looking forward to going back again and getting a bit of that "normal" feeling during the pandemic.
I've gone here for Karaoke and for the Quiz Night. Guess what, both are great! I recommend trying some of the different beers they have on tap. I wish there'd be more of a English Football base ( or soccer base ) to watch games here. I like the stretch of the place and it's easy to talk to people, just like the Beauty Bar ( minus the bridge and tunnel trash ). Till next time, Blackthorn!
Great Bar for UFC fights and good conversation.. I notice people bringing in pizza from next door? Attentive service and decent cocktails.. great tall stools with soft cushions.. highly recommend this place for your next sporting event .
Great bar with friendly bar tenders, reasonably priced drinks and 2 pool tables. Also they have a nice heated outdoor area.
This place is pretty cool. Very chill bar, kind of place where you can have a quick drink and relax.
The best Guiness I’ve had in my life!
I go to blackthorn a couple times a year mostly to visit friends who live in the sunset. Its a no nonsense bar serving beer and cocktails. They have a couple of pool tables. There is an outside patio where you can drink and smoke (rare in san francisco). Check it out if you are in the neighborhood.
Excellent hang with Guinness on tap, lots of other choices, good screens and friendly barkeep
Good spot and Tommy’s still there. They put a lot of work into the place. Drink prices are reasonable.
Comfy, cozy, good beer, good people.
Went in with a head cold and two of Martina’s Hot Toddies cured me! I’m a new woman thanks to the Temple Bar.
One of the best places in Sunset district to watch sports. They don't serve food, but are totally ok if you wanna bring food in. Play pool, smoke on the back patio, enjoy a game on like 10 different TVs.
This is such an amazing bar!! I really hope we can continue to come here for many years. I hope the McGrath company doesn’t wrongfully evict them.
Can't wait to go to the OG!
Great sports bar. Perfect place to relax. Mondays are quiet. Took my son there for his 21st birthday. Staff is outstanding.
Loved trivia night with Wil. The music amazing. Lots of fun. Highly recommend this place.
Great proper pints. Excellent customer service. Great atmosphere. Smoking patio, good prices & a pool table. Live jazz this evening as well. Everything that one might wish for in a true pub. Nice & dark, yet clean & classy. No complaints. I just didn't notice food being served (even more smart!). There are a ton of restaurants, public transit & shops all within close proximity. Very convenient & fantastic. Check list is full in my opinion.
Super cool new bar that opened up in the neighborhood! Great ambiance, and a full selection of drinks. Comfortable seating with booth or barstool options, as well as a back patio. Looking forward to coming again.
Extensive renovation has blessed the Inner Sunset with a beautiful new bar. Live music has also returned. Great beer and broad variety of whiskeys, along with pleasant service.
The place to go for a glass of Guinness. The bar’s pristine, with comfy booths and ample space/seating.
Great bar. Great ambience and music playing, two pool tables and a smoking patio
Friendly service with very good selection of beer and hard liquor. Place is clean and comfortable seating. Had a nice barebottle IPA.
Dog friendly neighborhood bar with a small back patio and pool table. Late night HH is a great idea. You can bring your own food. Trivia on Mondays is a lot of fun. Lots of TVs so a solid spot for sports. Order a Guinness for a meat shamrock surprise!

I recently discovered The Temple, and it's become my new favorite bar! My friend and I spent about 45 minutes searching for a bar in the area, but none compared to The Temple. What impressed me most was the welcoming atmosphere and spotless cleanliness. I visited for the first time last Saturday (April 12) and had a fantastic time. The only thing that would take it to the next level is a food menu – some finger foods like fries or wings would be amazing. Having to order food through delivery services added extra cost. Despite that, I think The Temple has huge potential and could draw in even more customers with food options. I'm a total fan and live almost 30 blocks away, but I'll be bypassing all the other bars to come here from now on!
The space had been renovated into a lovely pub. Clean, spacious, plenty of seating, especially around the gorgeous bar. Wonderful beer and cocktail selection. Service is friendly and fast. My new favorite neighborhood bar.
Newly opened bar in the sunset. Has an official Guiness tap like the kind you see in Ireland. Nice back patio, but I do want to mention that they allow smoking on the back patio, so be aware. Nice new pool table too! Has good pub vibes .
The Temple Bar is a great Irish Pub in the Inner Sunset. The bartenders and staff are friendly and the service is top notch. They take their Guinness taps very seriously and it might be the finest pint in San Francisco.
Great Irish bar with fabulous bar tenders. Fantastic service. We came on a night with live music. Ivor Collins was playing and he was great
The best spot in the sunset, love this place. Nice bartenders and very positive space. They're in danger of being wrongfully evicted after being encouraged by the landlord to pour a bunch of their own money into renovations under false pretenses of a renewed lease, so support them if you can.
Truly my favorite bar! The kindest bar tenders I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know! A wonderful backyard space and front parklet! This place is always a go to for my friends and I. It would be such a shame to see Blackthorn go. I hope the community can come together to save this sunset staple!
Yummy cocktails, cheap and accessible pool, and good beer options. Also an awesome back patio where you can smoke. High-energy atmosphere with fun music. Leanne was our server and she was so attentive and really nice. We will definitely be returning!
A fine evolution following its predecessors Black Thorn. Comfy tables, sunny back patio (when there is sun in the sunset), very friendly staff, and if you are a sports fan, lots of tvs!
Came in on a Monday evening for a Guinness. Chill bar with a smoking lounge in the back. Great TV view playing MNF. Guinness is an absolute creamer.
Watched the 49ers game here. Smaller place but everyone was together into the game. Lots of fun.

Awesome experience... Random girl with a dog stole a friends purse... I think the tables are overpriced... Cool selfie station... Will def be going here again...
A sizeable selection of beers and quick service. Plenty of seating options. Comfy atmosphere. Lots of tv's, maybe too many?
My go-to bar in the Inner Sunset. Their trivia on Mondays seems intimidating with 8 rounds, but goes quickly and is done pretty well.
Low key bar that's not too crowded. There's two pool tables and a outdoor section in the back!
Solid bar with well kept pool tables and decent competition pretty much any night
Decent beer selection for a small place. Good value for San Fran. Friendly beer slingers.
Patio. Great seating. Pool tables. Plenty of TVs for sports viewing. Easy to get to.
Cool trivia night on Mondays. Not particularly challenging the one time I went, but trivia is trivia.
Nice bar atmosphere and lots of seating. Two pool tables and an outdoor patio. Good local spot with plenty of restaurants around.
Great atmosphere, bar tenders were attentive, and bathrooms were clean. Definitely is a sport bar, they also have pool tables and a patio.
Loved the vibe and energy of the place while watching the champions league finals here. The crowd was awesome and bartender was really friendly
non pretentious bar with some great barkeeps. Honorable bartenders that don't hide behind the insecurity of "mixology". A great place to go any night.
Edit 2023: The owners of this place had some 12th hour deal to keep the place open. It still is largely the same Blackthorn, but has some modern touches: new flooring, different lighting, some changes to the board...little improvements to the decor that, added together, make things a bit more warm and cozy. 4.5/5. This is for their trivia nights, held on Monday. But first a quick overview of the place. This is NOT a hipster microbrewery. This is a good ol' fashioned pub. Reasonable drink prices, a rotating selection on tap, a full selection of games on tv. A nice place you can go and hang out after a long day of whatever it is you do. Hey, you deal drugs? I ain't gonna judge you. The only downside is that they don't serve food, though there are a number of places that do in the neighborhood, and you are free to bring it in. The trivia is a fun selection of topics that you don't need a PhD to figure out. Current events, a music round, celebrity photos, a theme of the week. A great variety, very well run.
I go there mostly on Mondays for Trivia nights and the bar is always packed, which is great! The guy organizing the Trivia is awesome and the atmosphere is always really joyfull. They know how to pour a Guinness, they have a great selection of bear and always sports on TV. What more would you ask more of an Irish pub? Oh you can enter the bar under 21!
Great neighborhood staple sports bar with lots of screens and NFL Sunday Ticket. They serve quite a few beers on draft here at around $5-6 and have a variety of Guinness mixed beers as well. There's a variety of booth, bar, and patio seating available for your different moods.
Medium sized bar with two pool tables and plenty of seating. Decent beers on tap with average prices. Come Tuesday nights @9 for trivia night and Wednesday nights for karaoke.
Need a drink?!? Close by Golden Gate Park? Then hop skip and/or jump over to this friendly pub! The bartenders are super nice and even when it gets busy they try to get to you ASAP. They have a few TVs around the bar and will put any game on that they can when asked. Why do I like this bar?!? Frankly because they have several IPAs on tap. Not that this is an uncommon thing but in that particular area they are the only one serving something other than Lagunitas IPA on draft. (I love me some Lagunitas but every once in a while you gotta put some variety in your life!) I've been here a few times and the place is always the same...a blasty blast! There is an enclosed smoking area in the back behind a pool tables and a pinball machine. (FYI, last time the pinball machine stopped working mid-game.) Overall a great spot for hanging out with friends to grab a drink if you happen to be in the Inner Sunset! #GoogleCityExpert #SFCityExpert
Have been enjoying Will’s trivia night on Tuesdays! Love the slightly different question format and that it starts at 7 and ends by 9. You can bring in food from elsewhere - they suggest tres underdogs around the corner. I didn’t love their one mocktail but the bartender made me a mock margarita that was pretty good one night.

A bit of a stuffy atmosphere. Bartenders aren't very friendly or welcoming. Probably will not return here although it was in my old hood.
Pool / back patio for smoking. Met a man who had "With Guts" tattooed on his belly. I don't think he's a regular, thank god. Mixed crowd.
this is your typical irish bar. reasonbly priced drinks. friendly staff and bartenders. i went here for a friends birthday and i will never forget this place!
Too expensive for what it is, and usually loud. Still, if you can get there early enough, sometimes it can be pretty chill. Points for letting dogs hang out!
Who reads 3's? No me but if you're bored this place is cool but not amazing. Seven for a beer...
Nice outdoors patio as well as plenty of tvs to watch sports. The place gets packed when the Warriors or Giants play. Not sure why the 49rs are not popular here.
A good spot with great beer selection and bartenders. My only beef? It gets loud. Some folks love the vibe, I prefer a quiet place to chat.
This place can be cool depending on who your bartender is. The Irish "Karen" that works here perpetuates an inescapable cycle of: bad mood --> rude to everyone --> customers would rather go to Yancy's --> customers love Yancy's
I get it. I know things have changed with the pandemic and the virus. I remember visiting here back in 2019 before my life fell apart drastically and this city felt so much better and welcoming. Fast forward to a week ago, I decided to revisit the sunset area since it held a special place in my heart but I feel that San Fran has broken my heart. Say what you want but I got the J&J just because I thought it was the best option for me as in terms of a vaccine and I also wanted to protect myself and everyone around me as well as have my life back. Apparently when I visited here they required proof of vaccination via the vaccine card (and yes, every bar around the area was requiring that too which made sense) but when I presented it they said I needed a second dose (which ONLY applies to the messenger RNA vaccines) for a vaccine that is only approved for one dose which was disappointing since I didn’t get vaccinated only to get turned down and have the San Francisco experience that I had the last time. Needless to say I’m disappointed that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is not recognized here but if you had the Pfizer or Moderna you’re good! All in all, I do hope the pandemic gets in check so we don’t have to go this route again but nonetheless San Fran let me down. I’m hoping one day when I get back this will all be a memory and things will be better.
It's a solid bar with a back patio, pool tables, and some TVs for the game. Avoid this place during karaoke night, which is either Thursday or Friday. It will give you a headache and make for bad start to the weekend. Staff is alright, they cater mostly to the regulars which are in there nightly.
I actually like this bar, the pool is fun and beer selection is good. This is the first bad review I've left for service since I've been leaving reviews. The bartenders make me never want to come to this place again. I'm not sure how they got this God's gift to earth mentality, but this is not an isolated incident. They are extremely rude, take your beers away before you are finished, and then when you acknowledge that they took it, they turn into 12 year olds playing the "Nuh uhhhh" game.. If you want people to return to your bars, stop hiring people who treat your locals like garbage.
They renovated after taking over Blackthorn but the vibes are worse now. Staff didn't seem experienced and the decor feels soulless. Never seen so many typos in a cocktail list.

Went there in a manual wheelchair for Karoike last tuesday was told to move because a Speaker was going where I was sitting. It's the kind of thing that COULD be a fight but I had little interest in being there.
Rude staff, called ahead and asked if they were doing karaoke. They said yes. drove thirty minutes to have a waitress lecture us about just walking into a bar. Not worth your time.
Salty bartender wanted to close early because it wasn't packed. Made me rush my game of pool and turned off the music at 1:15am.. even after I left a tip. Too many good bars nearby to bother with this mediocrity.
I have been going to this bar once every week or two for the last year, and enjoyed the bar and especially the back patio immensely because I could bring my dog there and enjoy a beer or two while watching a game. Unfortunately however, they recently hired a new bartender that decided immediately that she did not like me, and has since decided that my dog is no longer allowed because of her breed (she’s a pit bull mix), even though she had been with me to the bar many, many times and never caused any problems. This is quite frankly completely unacceptable to me on a number of levels, and I will never patronize this establishment again. There are far better bars within a block of this place, and while they do not have patios, the rudeness with which myself, my guest and my dog were treated, after being a regular there for more than a year, and always, no matter what tipping well over 20% (I have worked at many bars and other customer-service facilities all over the United States) is inexcusable and makes this bar a no-go indefinitely.
