dude. the cookies here are absolutely crACked. i dream about the crazy cookie on the daily (the cornflakes go so hard) ice cream is also freaking delish, i have no idea where they get the sprinkles from but theyre so crunchy and good and fREE

So, in many ways, this is still the same Toy Boat cafe that's been here for nearly 40 years, but since Jane the Bakery took over, everything's gotten a little bit better. Specifically... *Things that are better* - The ice cream. They still carry a lot of the popular flavors from Double Rainbow, but they've expanded their suppliers to include both Mitchells (for tropical flavors) and Hometown Creamery, which always has delicious and unique flavors. - The pastries. I mean, duh. A bakery owns this place now; the pastries better be great. Maybe not quite as good as the fresh-out-of-the-oven ones from Arsicault, but certainly a good option when you don't feel like waiting in line for 30 minutes. Treat yourself to a cookie, too.They're worth it. - The sandwiches and salads. They're pre-made now, but honestly, they're significantly better than before, with more interesting ingredients and really good ciabatta. Oh, speaking of... - Bread. They sell fresh loaves of bread every day. The baguette is great, but you definitely need to order ahead or show up at 10:00, or they'll be sold out. - Cleanliness. Sorry, old Toy Boat, I loved you in many ways, but the whole place just felt grungy. The new store definitely feels cleaner than before. (Although I still think they could use to re-tile their floors.) So... what's not as good? - Hours. I mean, it's a pandemic, so I'll give them a pass here, but for a dessert cafe, it'd be nice if it were open a little later. - No custardy desserts. Cookies and brownies and cakes are fine. But every one in a while you're in the mood for something a little more custard-y, like a tiramisu or key lime pie, which the old Toy Boat used to have. Granted, it was a pretty mediocre tiramisu, but even mediocre tiramisu is better than no tiramisu.

I come here for the ice cream! Not just any ice cream but a combination I thought I could only get a a cold stone creamery or some other type of ice cream place. My favorite combination is vanilla bean ice cream with peanut butter swirl and chocolate chips...or at Toy Boat "It's a Goodie"! Oh and it is! I love that they have unique flavors here and an array of desserts, not just ice cream. The decor is cute and it reminds me of an old school toy box! They have neat toys all around. But I didn't come to play with the toys, I came for the ice cream, and I will be going back...especially since I can get a pint or a quart of my favorite to take home with me and enjoy!

We are frequent visitors to Toy Boat...from a coffee run to a late night dessert run. The ice cream selections are great, and they even have seasonal flavors (i.e. pumpkin, peppermint, etc.). Their salads are good for sharing. What I love best is the staff; they'be become second family to us. Jesse (owner) loves to chat it up and "keeps it real," while the other staff are good about remembering what your "favorites" are if you are frequent visitors like us. The toy and trinket selections are so awesome, a collectors dream. And what kid doesn't love a ride on a mechanical horse?

A delightful treat to have on Clement Street - an Inner Richmond original. The bright, old-school store front filled with nostalgia and toys serves as a perfect backdrop for a neighborhood gem that brings in all types - college students, families with kids, grown-ups that are kids at heart. I have not had any food but have definitely tried most of the ice cream flavors :) The service behind the counter is friendly and the hours are great: Toy Boat closes late, for when you find that last little bit of room in your tummy for ice cream after Burma Superstar/Mandalay/Q Restaurant/Halu/Pizza/Korean BBQ/etc. If anything, stop in to check out the Pez Collection behind the counter! Is there any place else on Clement Street like this? No! :)

This place is so cute! Vintage toys and posters line the cafe, and the space is charming without feeling cramped. The staff is pretty down-to-earth, and are helpful when it comes to ice cream selection. And their sundaes portions are very, VERY generous. The ice cream flavors are pretty standard, but all around extremely tasty.

We were meeting my brother who was in town on a work trip and I thought it was just your standard Vietnamese food. Wasn’t what I thought it would be, so much better. I immediately wanted to come back and try everything else. The Hanoi BBQ Pork was incredible, I’d come back for that alone. The owner find out we were from Chicago and brought his version of an Italian Beef. Amazing.

Lovely, and usual ice cream shop. My kid had a scoop of the chocolate caramel ice cream, and had gummy bears on top. She was so happy until she dropped her cone on the sidewalk. Started crying immediately, but I assured her, I‘d buy her another one. We came back and I reported what happened and they gave us a free scoop with lots of gummy bears on top. This was so generous and made my daughter so happy.

Stopped by here to grab a little late night treat and so glad we did! We had a brownie sundae? Something along those lines that was DELICIOUS! The manager was so frickn lovely, 11/10 human and let us stay a little after closing to wait out the terrible rain.

The ice cream is amazing! The facility looks clean and new. Two suggestions, especially for a busy Saturday night: placing your menu up high for all to see and having the server also cash you out so you don’t have to wait twice. It would get customers out much faster.

Arsicault gets all the attention (deservedly), but the ham and cheese croissants by Jane are excellent as well. They use a delicious ham and complementary cheese that work really well together. The cake slices are very good, too. Much less sweet than Susie cakes, in a good way. I would love to see a line out the door at Toy Boat, too.

Absolutely amazing place to get desert and very child friendly. They have a lot of old and vintage toys both for sale and scenery. I've gone here for several years since I was a young girl and have never had a bad experience. My daughter had a wonderful time. I will definitely be coming back here again.

Amazing kitschy ice cream parlor serving delightful treats in a nostalgic setting. Really enjoyed their shakes with a shot of espresso, as well as their snarky humor. There is even a mechanical pony ride for the little ones.

Every time I go here I feel quite literally like a kid in a candy store! One of my favorite desert places in the city. Great location, big selection, plus all the toys on the wall make it feel very unique.

Great place for real Cannolis, and other old world treats, as well as a respectable ice cream selection, and good espresso drinks. The outside benches make a great people watching perch, and the locals in this neighborhood are some of the friendliest anywhere. Nice staff.

Clean little gem where a slice of cake is perfect, cookies are big and full of good things and our shawarma sandwich was just perfect: full of flavor, cucumber and a perfect lunchtime filler for two! Take a trip back in time. Good old fashion ice cream n desert shop. Service and atmosphere are great. It was a nice day, so we asked if we could move a table and some chairs outside and was told, sure, as long as we returned them. Parking is not bad. Great place.

This place is so cute - full of retro toys and Pez dispensers. Someone has a pretty awesome collection - and the dessert is excellent! I got the buko ice cream with hot fudge and a double chocolate chip cookie and that was SOOO good. The cookie in particular was amazing - if you only have room to eat one thing, I suggest that if you love chocolate like I do. (But if you have room, the sundaes are wonderful).

We had JUST volunteered at Jane Cafe on Larkin that morning from 11a-12p and saw another Jane franchise establishment on our way to this one! Dragon fruit doesn't have much flavor, but the sorbet had surprisingly great taste and color. The mango, tangerine, vanilla custard is my favorite. There are small chunks of really sour tangerine in the mango, vanilla custard, which was really refreshing and lively. There are tons of vintage and retro toys, posters, and more in the shop that are nostalgic! Overall, a great ice place that has awesome service, great vibes, and is filled with fun! 5/5 stars!

The Chocolate caramel crunch in a cake cone was pretty unique and nice. The Chocolate caramel swirl though was overtly sweet and average.

A local Institution. Really great Double Rainbow ice cream is locally made. Sandwiches and coffee too. Recently I saw they had pastries from Devil's Teeth bakery. Many of the classic toys on the wall are for sale.

What some don't know is that this is a decent place to get sandwiches! But they serve double rainbow ice cream, a variety of desserts, and ice cream sandwiches, too. They have cute booths in the back and a mechanical horse that is for children only, DON'T BE THAT GUY.

Ube ice cream was ok, ultra chocolate was nice and key lime pie was great. Also the chocolate cake is awesome.

Ice cream! This place is super cute and fun to look around. It's a great place for kids because they have lots of fun toys around the whole place. Definitely get some dessert here after eating at Burma Superstar or any of the other amazing restaurants nearby. FINALLY stopped by and tried Toy Boy the other night, after a nearby dinner at Le Soleil. While I was a little skeptical about how good the ice cream here could be compared to the likes of Humphry and Mr & Mrs, I ended up being pleasantly surprised with the sea salt chocolate caramel I got! Rich and creamy, but not too sweet, with a good solid balance of sweet and savory. Combine that with generous serving sizes at a reasonable price, and, well, I'll definitely be back the next time I'm seeking dessert in the area. ***Accessibility Info*** Venue - Their ice cream counter is what you'd usually expect, which means that a bit of peering in to see flavors and reaching up to grab samples from the staff will be necessary. Otherwise, while seating is a little limited, it is at least accessible. The cafe also has two entrances, one of which has steps, while the other is level. Bathroom - Didn't check them out, so no comment, but I don't really recall seeing one either.

Fudge caramel cheesecake was amazing! fudge brownie sundae very tasty. Only took a star off b/c the rap music was off character for the kid friendly atmosphere.

Atmosphere was really nice here. I had a lovely lunch on a Saturday afternoon, very relaxing and pleasant. The decorations and vintage toys are really neat. The only problem- the chicken sandwich I ordered was so salty it was almost unpleasant to eat. I'll assume that was a fluke, though!

The service was great The ice cream is great but the overall community and atmosphere is another uninviting and unwelcoming to people who are black. I would never recommend anything or suggest anyone come to this neighborhood for anything.

The inside was amazing. Ton of posters, art and toys hanging from the wall. I couldn't stop looking around. I got a milk shake in a mason jar that was delicious. I tired some of their old fashion chocolate cake which was huge and amazing. The picture doesn't do the cake justice. Trust me the slice of cake is huge.

The coin operated horse is retired (out of order). I'd say come for the ice cream and enjoy looking at all the toys. You can buy the toys too!

The original owners retired and the classic diner sold to the owner of Jane Bakery in the Fillmore. Toy Boat is the only ice cream game in the neighborhood (east of Park Persidio and north of the GG Park), so I’m sure glad they made it!! They are still serving the classic Double Rainbow ice cream including some excellent dairy free options such as raspberry sorbet and snickerdoodle soy cream. I removed a couple of star after two years of going there since the rebrand due to the lackluster service. On more than one occasion, the baristas who are glued to their phones made the wrong order. It is always grumpy teenagers/young adults working there that seem legit mad to see you. We took our toddler there for a special occasion and right as we were ordering the ice cream she needed to use a bathroom, we finished the transaction and paid and tipped generously and were told to go to another coffeeshop to use the bathroom a couple of blocks away. So we had to run our kid over two blocks, could not carry our order with us, order something else at the other place and come back to completely melted ice cream and a toddler tantrum and the whole outing was ruined. Like I understand they don’t other people using their bathroom but it was a toddler clearly on a special day and it clearly was an emergency and the complete lack of empathy was shocking. At least tell me before I pay that you were not going to let us use your bathroom. Other than that, if you are used to the old Toy Boat, they replaced the sandwiches, cakes, pies, and baked goods with Jane's classic menu - pastries, breads, sandwiches and salads, which is a plus. They cleaned up the place on the inside, streamlined the decor, and got rid of a lot of the older toys, indoor tables, and so on. The coin operated horse is still thankfully there.

The s’mores tart tastes like crayons and new house. But the ambience is cool and the ice cream is good!

This place has got to be the worst place to get ice cream in all of sf, I get it it’s fun because the presentation and theme of the shop but it is short lived due to the mood of the workers no enthusiasm mixed with rude presentations - Devyn the honest guy

This place has got to be the worst place to get ice cream in all of sf, I get it it’s fun because the presentation and theme of the shop but it is short lived due to the mood of the workers no enthusiasm mixed with rude presentations - Devyn the honest guy

This place closes an hour before it closes. Get there at 7, and the chairs are all stacked, can’t sit inside, dirty mop sitting on the booth bench … god forbid you get their 5 min before closing time at 8 … the ice cream is good tho.

The inside looks cool, but there are a couple oddities. They use paper straws for their floats, so at the end your straw is soggy and kind of nasty. Also they don't flame the top of the creme brule... So it is just a pile of sugar on top which makes it really sweet. There was also water in the bottom of the creme brule...

I was largely unhappy. the cakes seemed store bought. not particularly tasty, overweet and had that weird propylene glycol moisture that reminds me of the cheap cake slice you can get at grocery stores. I got a morning bun as well and it wasn't very fluffy or buttery.

Cute shop but the milkshakes are mostly milk with very little ice cream. You definitely couldn’t stand a spoon up in it. You can tell it’s not thick enough by the fact that they serve it with a regular size paper straw…

Neat little shop. Female cashier toasted our bagel. After handling cash from a previous order, she touched the bagel with her bare, unwashed hand to check the temperature then spread the cream cheese. I didn’t eat the bagel.

Worst service I've ever had. The brunette girl at the counter was terribly rude for no reason she had an attitude with me the entire time I was picking out my desserts. She was slamming things on the counter and threw a bag of garbage out the back door very aggressively. She was pissed off for no apparent reason. I will not be returning to this cafe.

Delicious ice cream from San Francisco purveyors (love the lychee and buko flavors from Mitchell's), but misleading prices for Toy Boat merchandise. The tote bag was advertised as $10. It rang up on the cash register as $12. The cashier refused to sell the product to me at the listed price, arguing, "That's the price in my machine." If that's the price in the machine, then kindly advertise the item as such so that customers do not feel cheated. Thank you!

Let's be honest. The Toy Boat is barely a shadow of its former self. In the past, the Toy Boat offered good selection of sandwiches and sweet treats , of decent portion size and quality. Although not the best , it certainly could hold its own against other coffee shops / ice cream venues in the area. Ok , so we all know about increased prices across the board and business owners in turn must reduce portion sizes to keep going. Just a fact of life and a sign of the times we live in . All that being said, the Toy Boat must surely be kidding when they charge $7 of a two or three bite at most "Black Magic" cake ........by the inch .....they say for some unknown reason . Outright daylight robbery and whomever came up with the ....by the inch price tag line .....would we better served to focus on their baking skills above all else. The "black magic" mini slice of cake for $7 is so small it barely feels like anything in the box . As for the taste, so average even Safeway could pull off the same for half the price and double the portion in turn. Time to pull up the proverbial socks at the Toy Boat would be the best advice to the staff and owners. Back to basics , focus on the products you offer and put customer satisfaction number one priority.

It seems the spirit of the Toy Boat SF, and whimsical nature was lost with hiring the new people there. The young guys (guy with a Chicago crewneck, especially) had horrible attitudes. I understand customer service and food can be a handful but the attitude with these two guys was absolutely horrible and condescending towards the end of the transaction. I’ve had milkshakes here before at this establishment as well, the one I received from them was literally ice cream and milk that was not even properly blended and noticeably done unwell. Quite obvious the tone and facial remarks that I received from them that I am not overthinking this situation. To Toy Boat SF - hire better talent. There’s a bunch of people who would be of better assistance instead of the two guys who worked closing on 01/08 front desk. There’s other establishments for desserts on the block - if you want to be treated with some respect and not answered back with sarcasm.
