OG Panhandle neighborhood restaurant! Tsunami hits like a hidden GEM for locals on weeknights (IYKYK) but the crowds flock on weekends so make sure you have a reservation, though they will do everything in their power to accommodate walk ins. You can tell the service is something everyone working there really takes pride in. Food is amazing and always fresh. Vibey ambiance, good music, large Shochu selection. Their sister bar is just around the corner on Divisadero, Bar 821, and its the perfect place to stop pre or post dinner!

Delicious sashimi, incredible hamachi Kama, and good value happy hour deals. Perfect for date night

They were able to accomodate a walk-in at 8pm for 3! Romantic, candlelit atmosphere. Lively but not too loud for conversation. Really good sushi at reasonable prices. Also, buy a bottle and get a dozen of really big and tasty oysters for free. Adding to^ tried their Happy Hour and it’s AMAZING! Both drink and food options on the HH menu were great. The Sochu they make in store is unbelievably good. Probably my favorite alcoholic drink yet! Had the lemon one and waitress brought a free plum shot at the end of the meal because I enjoyed it so much. I really appreciate that this restaurant is authentic, high quality, but also tries innovative plates.

We had dinner there yesterday right after the restaurant opened. We tried all the items on the happy hour menu, chirashi and sushi combo. The fish were super fresh. And the team were very friendly. Will definitely come back later. One thing is, it would be better if the wasabi came stronger.

This now one of our favorite spot in the city for Japanese sushi/sake etc. They have a very impressive collection of sake/souchu (Japanese whisky), probably the largest I've seen in SF. They have knowledgeable and friendly staff, so it doesn't matter if you are new or super experience already with sake, they can find something that surprises you. Moreover, their sushi is so fresh and delicious and goes so well with their drinks, that just make us want to come back again and again. The vibe is great with hip and trendy music, and the decor is very classy, artsy, and has an Asian elegance to it. Come see for yourself, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. We will definitely go back and bring our friends along.

I wish I had checked this place out sooner--it's terrific! Aside from the extensive and impressive collection of sakes, shochus, whiskeys, and cocktails, the food here is top notch. The rolls are so creative and intriguing it was hard to pick just one, and the one we ended up trying, the Black Sabbath, was excellent. Definitely have to come back and try more. We loved the Torch My Belly appetizer, a heavenly serving of seared salmon belly paired with a savory salad, and the hamachi kama was pretty good, though not the best we have had. The shining star for me was the sushi. We ordered the chu toro nigiri, and this was the runaway favorite not just because it's an obviously fatty and delightful cut of fish. The rice was a level above the best sushi places in the area, with the perfect amount, texture, and flavor. I could order that rice with even the lowliest selection of fish and and still cry with happiness. Can't wait to explore the rest of this menu!

Amazing food, great happy hour where you can buy a bottle of alcohol and get a dozen mini oysters. Delicious food and great vibe. Definitely check it out

Great sushi place with a bar and a fair amount of seating. They offer the traditional, and also some very creative items as well. Some of my favorites are the spicy ones which you can't get just anywhere. They have a great selection of wines, beers, sake and cocktails, better than nearly any other sushi place I've been too actually. Good idea to make a reservation but if you come early there will be seats. They have some half price happy hour food items and on certain days other deals.

High quality ingredients, and great service. Oysters are magnifique!! (coming from Washington-top quality). Overall, good prices.

This place definitely has fresh sashimi and sushi! I have only ordered their Chirashi Bowl online, several times at this point. Great value and good size portion. I almost always judge a Japanese Restaurant by their Chirashi bowls! Highly recommend. I have not actually eaten their yet, but it looks great!

I LOVE this place! Go for happy hour— I got the sashimi 8pc and the tuna sashimi. Excellent Japanese beer and liquor selection and quality sushi. I feel very lucky to live close by!

Great quality fish, with unique rolls and fish types! They even have alligator, and lots of shochu choices (spirits) The Yuzu cheesecake was a great way to finish the meal!

Had to write a review to praise their vegetarian options. Some of the best vegetarian sushi variety out there!

Amazing atmosphere, great service, and one of the coolest bars in the city. Just completely stocked full of unique Japanese liquors that are all extremely good and reasonably priced. Place has a great vibe whether your just there for a drink or for dinner.

This is our go to spot for sushi in the neighborhood. They have been here for quite a while and are finally about to open their new space next door. Impressive sake and Japanese whiskey list. Happy hour is good if you can make it. Their fresh catch options are always very on point. Service can get a bit slow when really busy but still worth it. Not the cheapest or the most expensive, just solid.

Went with a couple friends and had a bunch of small plates along with a couple of rolls. The small plates we're half price prior to 7pm which was awesome. Lots of options too. The rolls were excellent. Plenty of sake and Japanese beers available too. Service was excellent too. A great night out.

Happy Hour here is the best for a good deal on really great sushi. I've never been disappointed! I particularly love the Sashimi and it's half price during happy hour. Their selection of sake is vast and wonderful. The staff are awesome!

Excellent cuts of fish. Impeccable service. Traditional menu items are juxtaposed by unique, exciting bites. Try the alligator, you won't regret it. They also have an extensive sake and Japanese whiskey collection that will impress even the most refined palette.

We had a delivery after my wife ate there with a friend and loved it. Everything was delicious. Great flavors, sauces, the best sushi, sashimi, rolls everything was delicious Loved the tofu dish too. We found our new sushi place !!! The best in the city!!!

Amazing place. I was surprised how broad variety of menu they have with good authentic sushi. Their fish were really fresh, and affordable price. Service was amazing, servers were always mindfully taking care of the customers, have a friendly yet professional attitude and really helpful with sake recommendations. I wanted to try sake but im not too educated. But my waitress helped me to choose really good sake and they have Bottle of Sake/wine and dozen oyster deal. Everything was absoluetly amazing and I was surprised how affordable this place was. Plus, good location. Underrated place with such good atmosphere.

I love this place. It has just the right amount of noise. The music is mellow and allows for conversation. This is the only place where I eat uni. Uni spoons taste like entire ocean in one bite. Black Sabbath roll was spicy but not too much. Black sesame cheesecake was a nice finish

L
Liz Strong

Amazing. Came for a business dinner and we had 6 special rolls, Uni, oysters, sake, cod, cherry trout, and 6 different types of sashimi. Lovely, quiet atmosphere. Would 1000% return soon!

Since moving into this neighborhood this place has become my go-to place for fine dining sushi. As an oyster lover, their free dozen oysters with a purchase of a bottle of wine/sake is a must! Their happy hour features very reasonably priced high quality sashimi with some cool rotating sushi specials as well. In addition to the food, their ambiance and decor definitely adds to the positive experience. Their staff has consistently been amazing and friendly as well. I've been slowly taking all of my friends here to share this wonderful experience of a place!

O

Everything was delicious! The fish was very fresh and high quality, a lot lot of it is delivered from Japan! Also, I liked the variety of sashimi, and uni spoon the best I’ve ever had!

This is a local sushi place that is good value for the price. They have a deal where you get 12 oysters free if you buy a bottle of wine! I like the maki rolls, although the specialty rolls seem a bit expensive. Enjoyed the food a lot and the indoor vibes are great — intimate and swanky. Good for date nights, friend dinners, and small groups.

This is my favorite spot! I moved out of SF but had to drop a review because it's the best spot in that neighborhood. They have a great happy hour and the oysters are amazing. Not sure if they're still doing this, but we used to do the buy a bottle of wine and get a complimentary dozen oysters. Unbeatable!

Wonderful return to this beautiful establishment. I hadn't been here in years due to life and travels. I was blown away at the improvements they have made on what was already wonderful. The oysters were so fresh. Hamachi Kama prepared to perfection. Black Sabbath roll was a balance of feisty and respecr for the fish. Sake, Sochu, drink selection is vast. The service was professional, graceful and personable, from the host to our waitstaff to the bartender. I am a SF lifer. And, this place made me feel so at home and elevated my spirits. I can't wait to come back.

Very good! I ordered a couple of the happy hour appetizers and they were great...the raw octopus and the seaweed salad were so yummy. We ordered two drinks and shared them both...one was a lychee drink and the other was called "last word"...both were very good. I don't drink Sake but they had a full menu dedicated to that. Service and atmosphere were GREAT!

V

Sushi here is really good and fresh. It is even hard to choose from the menu because I had a great experience with all my choices, I am always inclined for sashimi and special rolls for personal choice though. This time I ordered online and the app was not quite aligned with the wait time for my order to be ready. Even though the wait took longer than expected, the staff was really nice and even offered a sake while we waited, we did not take the offer but we appreciate the attention! This was my third visit and definitely, I will continue coming back!

Tsunami is my local neighborhood sushi restaurant, lucky me! The variety of rolls hits and the happy hour oysters for free with a bottle of wine is a great deal. The interior decor is spot on, and I've seen a DJ on site before cranking up the '80s techno/alternative vibes (Halloween 2025). Needless to say, I am a repeat customer and plan to continue.

This place is a bit of an institution in the neighborhood. It's been around for at least 25 plus years for good reason. Great selection of Japanese liquor and Cocktails. Bartender is really good! Staff is friendly.

I'm actually really surprised that this place had a low rating - the place has an amazing happy hour! Super cheap and good prices - I probably wouldn't come for the normal hours. Good: The service is quite fast with happy hour at 5:30 pm and we got like 3 rounds of different food. I thought the maki of the day was really worth it and the highball drinks were really tasty too. I liked the sweet yummy roll too - probably the highlight since the sweet potato tasted really good in the tempura. They also give you a free shot at the end of the meal! Bad: I didn't like the fried kama as much since it was pretty bland and fried but I did like the first couple of bites. Overall I thought that this place was a steal for the happy hour prices and has a nice ambiance for a friend catchup.

We got salmon, spicy tuna and their black pepper special sushi. As my expectations were really high I can’t say that sushi’s were great, it was okay. Salmon was tasty as well (portion is a little bit small though) I will come back to try different things, their ambiance is great!

S

Great sushi place, they don't split the bill more than 4 credit cards.

M
Matt Roberts

Remodel is great! Extensive sake and imported whiskey list, plenty of seating plus walk up bar. Sushi list is pretty good, with some creative options outside excellent fresh fish. A few too many rolloptions featuring cream cheese when I popped in, but that's a minor offense ;) Overall solid option

m
mia mccleary

Great experience, very large menu and good variety of quality fish. Some prices a little unreasonable but 95% I would say are priced fairly. Their happy hour is a great deal and the environment is chill while also feeling a little more on the upscale side for a day drink or quick bite.

I really want to give it 4 stars because the food was quite good but the service was unbelievably slow and the table was unbelievably uncomfortable. We sat at a table to the left of the entrance and it was unreasonably low and had unthinkably terrible ergonomics. I'm only 5' tall and I was so uncomfortable...I can't imagine how a 6'+ person would feel at that tiny table. Our backs hurt afterward! We waited about an hour for our sushi to arrive and there was no acknowledgement from the staff about the delay. When our nigiri finally came, we were disappointed with the portion size. The highlights are that the fish tasted fresh, they have a nice sake list and the ambiance is nice. Maybe if we went on a quieter night and sat at a normal table we would have had a better time.

The sake was delicious. The food, meh. Paid $100 for a one person meal and unfortunately was not impressed. Did not even finish the carpaccio.

H
Hugo Pelland

Underwhelming. Drinks were good, food was fine but uneven, just like service which varied across individuals from friendly to almost rude. Will not repeat.

E
Edu Giansante

Atmosphere is nice, food and service were good. It's just strange that for 2 people they added a mandatory 20% gratuity (tip) and then they ask for an additional tip when the receipt comes for signature. I don't want to say that but almost feel like a scam? Maybe they have good intentions but asking for a tip for the second time felt really really strange to me.

D
Dominic D.

Frankly, it felt like a combination of overpriced and underdelivered. The oysters were very soft and virtually flavorless, the sushi was "ok" at best, definitely not up to the standard of similar sushi focused restaurants in the bay. While the ambiance is nice and the sake & shochu menu is extensive, paying $80-100 per person for this food (incl. a shared bottle of sake) is in no relation to the actual food quality.

My partner and I had sashimi omakase here and we both got FOOD POISONING one hour later. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened. The woman who answered the phone was EXTREMELY RUDE. She laughed and said “That’s not how it works!” Who the heck is she to deny what happened to us? I said that’s what happened, but she kept screaming “That’s not how it works!” and was not willing to hear anything. She added “Google it!” so here I am attaching the Google search result which clarifies that food poisoning can set in as soon as in just 30 minutes. She also argued that she is a doctor. By the way, I grew up eating sushi my whole life and usually never experience food poisoning from eating raw fish. This shows that the restaurant has horrible hygiene. The food was obviously contaminated and I was already feeling like puking right after eating. It tasted bad and some of my sashimi had BONES in it. Absurd. The staff is the rudest staff I’ve ever seen. They also add an 20% automatic tip after serving you contaminated fish and delivering such horrible service. We paid $$$ to get food poisoning and get yelled at by the staff on the phone. They completely ruined our Valentine’s day. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

J
Josh S

I would never eat at a place so presumptive as to add a mandatory 20% tip to the bill and another 6% for a wage mandate. Who do they think they are a Las Vegas Resort and Casino? Price the food like a normal business without tricky Gavin Newsom surcharges!

J
Julia

Supremely underwhelming and disappointingly expensive. Be prepared to spend $200 and still be hungry, even during happy hour (like in our case). We ordered the miso cod and carpaccio along with a bottle of beringer wine. If you order a bottle, you get a dozen oysters free. Sounds good? Not really. You’d expect fat, plump oysters, but the meat was the size of a quarter each. Two of them were mashed; not sure what happened there? Maybe they got destroyed in the opening process? I accidentally bit into pieces of broken shell that were left in those oysters too. The cod and carpaccio were good, but tiny as heck for their price. By the way, the other comments were no lie- they tack on a 20% tip onto your bill which is outrageous considering service was average, at best. It’s embarrassing that you think it’s ok to do this to your patrons. If you want to support your staff, support them from your own pockets. We live in SF and have never seen any other restaurant do this. Tips should be appreciated, not expected. If you’re going to pull this kind of stunt, I would expect tremendous service on par with that found in fine dining restaurants- have your waiters clean the table in between dishes and give new cutlery and new plates without us having to ask (our waitress took our serving plates and didn’t replace them, even though we ordered a roll to share between us). At the end of the night, we were still starving but did not want to spend another penny here. We were researching other places to eat nearby so we wouldn’t go home hungry. Will never return.

G
Gee Sal

26% forced tip+ standard 8% tax!!!. Never seen this before. 200$ table cancellation fee. Servers were extremely transactional, pushing people to order drinks and starters. Clearing plates before everyone was done eating and bringing the check as quickly as possible. Awful revenue driven culture of rotating tables as quickly as possible. Food was good but service was awful for a high end restaurant.

K
Kristian Windsor

Spent my Valentine’s Day taking turns on the toilet after we both got food poisoning from here. We ordered the sashimi for 3 people (most expensive item on the menu). The staff were also very rude. I asked for the check, and they brought me a dessert menu instead. Immediately after paying another staff asked us to leave because they had another reservation. Overall just a terrible experience and complete waste of $128.
