Opinions de Bistro 1968 San Gabriel
Bistro 1968 has a few interesting and really special dishes. We had stewed crab congee, crispy lobster roll, duck, bbq pork, crispy pork belly, golden shrimp shumai, yellow shrimp shumai, pork shumai, bbq pork bao, snow cap bbq pork bao, abalone tart, rice wrapped in bana leaves... It was pretty good, definitely not run of the mill. Standouts included the crab congee and the snow capped bao. I've never seen or tasted a snow cap bao. I should have ordered 12 to go. The breading was airy, slightly sweet baked, just the correct ratio between bread and filling. Delicious! My five-star rating could be based on this alone. The service was fine. It was a little spendy, but the crab congee ($68) was enough to feed 12, and had a whole Dungeness crab in it. The flavor and the uniqueness of the dish was worth it.
Lunar new year brunch at Bistro 1968✨🏮🐇 This newly opened restaurant has been long awaited and is sister restaurants with Chef Tony in Pasadena. This dim sum spot has a good selection of dishes and all prices end in “.88” or “.68” 🧧㊗️ 🍽️Ordered: 1. Egg yolk buns 2. Siu mai 3. Ham sui gok 4. Spare ribs 5. Radish cake 6. Rice noodle w/ bbq pork All the dishes were aesthetically pleasing and delicious🤤 I loved the presentation of the dishes because it added so much to the whole experience. The bbq pork rice noodle was unique since I’ve never had pork as the filling. The egg yolk buns were a little more pretty than they tasted but I still enjoyed them. My favorite was the ham sui gok (glutinous rice dumpling) because it’s so flavorful and has a great mochi like texture. The spare ribs were my bf’s favorite since the sauce was so fragrant. The dining area is also really spacious which made it really easy to get seated right away. This was a huge plus because many dim sum spots in SGV have long wait times on the weekend. 💰Price: $40/meal
Free parking!!! They have a lot next to their entrance with pretty wide spaces. What a treat. If you don’t want to wait in line for a table, it’s best to get there right when they open or at least by 11am. They also had a projector where sports was being shown. Maybe they do football Sundays? Of the dishes we tried, these stuck out to me: -baked pork bun. Their bun was so unique. It tasted like the pineapple bun topping - the best part of the bun! -sticky rice in lotus leaf. This was a generous portion and had a lot stuffed into it -pan fried noodle in chili oil sauce. I could’ve eaten a whole plate. It came a couple veggies too: mushrooms and snap peas -pumpkin sesame ball. 4 balls in one order. Two of them are red bean and 2 are pumpkin??? Wasn’t really sure why they call it pumpkin when two were clearly stuffed with red bean. They were tasty though! -lobster roll. This was good but I’m not sure if I would order it again. The consistency of the lobster tasted a lot like shrimp and who knows, there might have been shrimp in there. The crunchy wrapper was good though. They have the dim sum staples too including two versions of har gow - regular and golden. According to my friends, the golden one wasn’t really that much different in taste than the regular. It just looked fancy. A dish that fell short was the XLB. There wasn’t much soup and the dumpling wrapper was on the thicker side. It had a lot of filling but reminded me more like a meatball than a dumpling. I’d definitely go back to try a couple more dim sum dishes and their regular menu items. I was salivating at the large plates of noodles that were being delivered to other tables. I thought the price was in line with some of the other nicer ambiance dim sum places. The food tastes fresh and I didn’t feel sleepy after.
This newly opened dim sum place is basically the same restaurant as the defunct Bistro 168 restaurant in Arcadia. The dim sum and food menu is about the same. Their formula is to provide good food and good service at a reasonable price. But with inflation, don’t expect huge portions for each dish. Hearing everyone on Yelp’s raving about this restaurant during their grand opening period, we decided to give it a try to see if the restaurant stills provides the food food as the Arcadia location. We walked in the restaurant and got a modern feel for the place. Its decor seemed to blended in the modern design with Chinese elements. Besides the good vibe decor, their foods is where this restaurant excelled. All the popular dim sums we tried were outstanding. We had har gaw, Siu Mai, char siu bao, sticky rice in lotus wrap that had exceeded our expectations with excellent quality food and delicious tasty. The regular dishes are amazing as well. We got their mandarin pork ribs and it was stunningly delectable. I love the crispy outer layer with tender inner layer meat. The sweet and sour sauce was mixed in the right levels of savory, sour and sweetness. It seems that they have an excellent chef that’s helming the kitchen. The service was equally impressive. The waiters were very quick in taking orders and the food came out in a very short amount of time. I believe they will do well with their dinners. Parking is in the back and the lot is kind of small but there are plenty of street parkings.
I heard a lot about this place. My friend who came here 2 days prior than me, said there was a two-hour wait. 👀💢! Was afraid if that was the case, I might have to change the venue. Luckily, things looked pretty empty. Had to wait for most of my party to arrive, and they still had a table for us. We sat down, tea pots arrived (GREAT selection by the way), and then they offered us a bigger table. At first one of my friends said a smaller table would be better to talk intimately, but honestly, he was totally wrong. The bigger table was more comfortable, and we were surrounded by 3 walls, which made it more enclosed, with less noised coming at us from all over. My problem is, if I was nosy like someone recommended I be, I should have snooped around at each table to see what they ordered and how big it was. We ordered thinking the standard 籠 ("cage"/plate) of Dim Sum only had four pieces. Turns out each piece was slightly bigger than your average, and some plates had 50% more pieces. Which ones? I can't remember, but because I ended up miscalculating the portions, we all ate until our stomachs bursted. Then, just when we were all already full and done, the lady brought out two more bowls of something, and we were like, "Hold on! We didn't order that!" But then we looked, and it turns out it was the 排骨腸粉 (pork rib rice rolls). Honestly, the 腸粉 I'm more used to actually are long and look like 腸 made out of 粉. I get that there's the type where it's neatly rolled up into a cylinder, but having the ribs over the rice rolls? Eh... Not as smooth as the bigger ones that are loose and soft. Those two dishes coming around were a bit disappointed. Would like them to be more like other 腸粉, and you could charge more if you just stripped the bones off the 排骨, and inserted them inside, like they would be with standard 腸粉. Anyhoo... Except for that last bowl of stuff, we were thoroughly impressed. Oh, and you can AYCE the dim sum on weekdays. What I love best, is they use the Japanese loan word 放題. That's a very Hong Kong thing to do recently, so these guys know what's in.
What a great addition to the SGV food scene. Probably the best dimsum in LA. The abalone tart is just a beautiful blend of flavors and textures. The rolled changfen 肠粉 is flavorful but I prefer the traditional version. The golden har gow tastes average or below average even. The color of the dough and the gold painted on it does nothing to the flavor - in fact I think it compromised the consistency of the dough. This was probably the only dish that disappointed me. The HK duck is fatty and flavorful, and goes great with the accompanying sauce. The osmanthus jelly is the perfect meal-ender - lightly sweet with a subtle fragrance of osmanthus. They have plenty of indoor parking. We waited to get a table for about 5 mins, at 2.30pm on a Wednesday - this place gets busy. It's not a rolling dim sum place, there are no carts of ready-to-eat food that go around, you have to order from the menu.
Was definitely a bit suspicious about all you can eat dim sum, but was pleasantly surprised overall. Everything came out super quickly and was piping hot, and the quality was a baseline solid. Har gow, shu mai, Cheung fun were nothing to write home about but were tasty and it is unlimited, so I can't complain too much. The pork ribs and egg tarts were great too. Note that the tea costs an extra $2 per person, and there is a limit of 90 minutes.
On a busy Sunday afternoon, my family decided to come here for lunch. Although the restaurant was quite busy with 10 parties ahead of us, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated within just 30 minutes. Now, let me tell you about the highlight of our meal – the dimsums! They were absolutely divine, deserving of a perfect 5-star rating. While the other main dishes were also quite enjoyable, the real star of the show was the quick and efficient service we received throughout our dining experience. As for the tea, it was decent, but I must admit it didn't quite reach the level of excellence as the rest of our meal.
Best ayce dim sum in town. Some of the dishes were avg while others were better than what you can get at an Ala carte dim sum place. And with the price you're paying this way a crazy good deal. It's was very busy so be kind to the staff, they look tired. +Egg tart filling was very soft and light. +baked bbqpork bun was flavorful and not too fatty. - some items were sold out
This place is very good. I will recommend going there. We ordered lunch, and honestly, their dim sum was very good. I like it how it is fresh and clean, and it was very good of the taste and the smell of the dim sum. It was very enjoyable and there were many dishes that we ate, like Hao Cao so good. I very much like it very much it was amazing and I would like to go back there someday. We ate so many dishes we ate like egg tart and it was very good and I like it very much it was very soft and pretty hot like warm temperatures. And it is not bad it was good. Honestly, it only took us a second to enter in, and the price was cheap it was awesome, and I enjoyed it with my family it was good, and I would recommend going there. Also, the Tau Siu or BBQ pork it very soft and juicy it has a delightful taste, and it is very crispy, and it fits well for me and my family.
Here a restaurant for All you can eat Dimsum and the time not only for morning. They open 2 times in a day. For morning start 9.00am till 3.00pm and then for evening start 5.00pm to 8.00pm. And this from Monday to Sunday. From my opinion the recommended menu are : House special crispy Shrimp Roll, BBQ lberian Pork with honey sauce, pork and shrimp siumay. They will charge you more for drinks, because the all you can eat not included drinks. Last time im here, they already serve you chinese tea and this will be charge $20. The price is $ 25.88/pax on Sat and Sunday. It will be more cheaper for weekdays. Overall its good enough, and about the waiter, maybe because language problems, so one of them not polite.
My first time here, there is parking, but you might missed the entrance to the parking structure, we went for the ayce, food came quickly. And the smaller portion sizes was perfect because we sampled many items,
Update from August, 2025: They changed their regular dim sum vs ayce menus. Many items are moved to the regular dim sum menu now, and ayce has much more limited choices to choose from now (see photo). Still good quality and worth a visit, just less appealing compared to previously. All-you-can-eat dim sum No waiting at 5pm, and reservation is allowed for a group of >8 people. Food was surprisingly well even for non-ayce standard, so it's exceptional for an ayce. Favorite dishes: - Egg tart - Char Siu - Boiled veggies (all kinds, no grease and fresh!) - Creamy salty egg yolk bao - Shrimp fried rice - Beef tripes - Lotus leaf wrap - Baked pineapple - char siu bao (Hagao was not bad, too) Service for decent, and we did get served pretty quickly. Comfortable, quiet seating at 5pm. The only complaint? No dining table turntable for a large group to be able to share these small dishes among 9 of us.
It's all you can eat dim sum for weekday $19.68 each each dish has more potion than other dim sum store. So order less in the beginning then add on later. You have 90 minutes to eat. And if you didn't finish all food then they will charge $3.99 a dish. Anyway, personally do feel it's a good deal with tasty food.
Organized. Short wait to sit down as well getting the order dishes. Only took 5 minutes between order and 1st dishes but the remaining came quickly after. Food was delicious. Recommend only ordering what can handle so maybe about 10-15 items are plenty. Anything more than that may put you in OD zone. Overall, dim sum affordable. Veggies fantastic. If ordered separately elsewhere, then likely more than $25+ per person. Tight parking spots limited. Thanks!
Dim sum available all day and made fresh to order so it’s very good. Great staff and service. They just made some new menus
This place has a good, roofed parking lot right next to it (I attached photos of the entrance of the parking lot). The service, considering how busy they get, is as good as it gets (it's not excellent, but I worked in the service industry before and I know handling this volume of customers isn't easy, so I still consider the service to be good, all things considered). The ambiance is nice and I appreciate how big the tables are, because usually the table will be filled of at least 4 or 5 different baskets or plates to serve yourself from. The food is really good, even considering that it is an all-you-can-eat place. It is not buffet-style, so what you do instead is fill out a sheet with your options, and the servers go and bring you what you selected. The price comes around 30 per person when including taxes (lunch on weekends), which is good, but the price is even cheaper during the week, so you do get your money's worth. It is not Din Tai Fung, but it definitely is very close to it. Also, there was no wait time, which is a huge plus in my book.
Updated Review!!! Bistro 1968 – Classic Dim Sum with a Modern Touch I visited Bistro 1968 for brunch on Mother’s Day weekend with my parents, and we were excited to try their dim sum offerings in a modern setting that still honors traditional flavors. 🥢 What We Ordered: We went with the à la carte option instead of their All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) menu. For dim sum, we ordered: Shrimp Har-Gow, Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai, House Special Crispy Shrimp Roll, Shrimp Rice Noodle, Jumbo Sticky Rice Wrap, Baked Snow Capped BBQ Pork Buns, and Creamy Egg Yolk Bao. 📋 Pricing Info: AYCE is available at $19.99 per person on weekdays and $25.99 per person on weekends/holidays. AYCE includes the condiments and tea fee. For à la carte diners (like us), there’s a $2 per person charge for condiments and tea. 🌟 Highlights: The restaurant was very clean, and the servers were attentive throughout our meal. The ambiance blends traditional dim sum charm with a sleek, modern vibe. The standout dishes were the House Special Crispy Shrimp Roll—a unique item I haven’t seen elsewhere—and the Baked Snow Cap BBQ Pork Bun, which reminded me of Tim Ho Wan’s version but was larger and honestly, better. ⚠️ Areas for Improvement: The food took a while to come out, but that’s often the trade-off for freshly made dishes. The only real downside was the parking situation—the garage is small and fills up quickly, and free street parking is very limited in the area. 💡 Tips: Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends and holidays. Arrive early to secure parking or be ready to walk a bit. Credit cards accepted. À la carte diners should factor in the extra $2 per person for tea and condiments. Great spot for a relaxing dim sum brunch with a modern twist. Old review from before Went here this past Wednesday afternoon with my family. We did the ayce dim sum for $25.88. This includes tea and condiments. The food was just as good as if you did Al La carte and other premium dim sum. Our favorite was the crispy shrimp roll and the baked snow cap char siu (bbq pork) bun. Don’t get me wrong everything was delicious. I would skip their xo sauce, it was lacking in flavor. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was your typical upscale Chinese restaurant. The parking could be problematic on the weekend since their lot is small and street parking is scarce.

Bistro 1968 – All You Can Eat Dim Sum – $20 😋 One of my favorite finds ever! Unlimited dim sum for $20 — yes, I lower my expectations a bit for AYCE, but this place still delivers. A few minor disappointments: the shrimp in the rice paper roll was good but the sauce lacked punch, and while the har gow could be better, it’s impressive for a buffet. The pork ribs in black bean were a bit underwhelming in flavor, but everything else really shines. The chow fun was incredible, the crispy shrimp rolls were slamming, and all their fried dishes — chicken wings, pork chops, you name it — are seriously yum. The pineapple custard buns? Heavenly. I honestly dream about this place. I’ve eaten dim sum all over the world, but I’d never done all-you-can-eat until now. Since my first visit, I’ve been back three times and am even considering going again today. All thumbs and toes up! Great food, great service, super fast, and totally worth it.

Great place to eat. Old WYC School alumni got together for a meal. We had everything : Deli plate, fish, lobster, duck, Fried chicken, Veggies...etc. Love the dessert, fried seasame balls, green & yellow, egg tart and fruit cocktail soup. Service was good, changing plates and food came quickly. All dishes are delicious, esp the Fish, very fresh. Higher price range. Dim Sum starts at $7. Normal dish starts at $18-$25 or more. Comfortable seaiting inside a partition room, like NBC Senfood. Front entrance is impressive with 2 shelf displays of Art items. 1968 is busy and attracts a good crowd. Worth trying at least once for a special occasion. Mr. Li
The ambiance/ sound is a typical dim sum restaurant a bit too noisy. The decor is simple and pretty. What I like most is the dim sum comes out piping hot. The service is pretty on point too. I have already made a reservation for tomorrow dim sum, bringing my extended family to try it out.
What a pleasant surprise to have quality dim sum here. Shrimp with rice noodles was out of the world. Shrimp was fresh and rice noodles were silky smooth. Don't forget the shui mai and ha gow. They were both very good! Beef tribes was good but it need more wok time. It was just lacking flavor. Overall food was 3.5 to 4 Stars Service was great Atmosphere was... Very very noisy. There was a party going on in one of the rooms and balloons were popping every few minutes. It was a very unpleasant experience.
Highly recommend the almond soup with the pastry puff top. Was absolutely delicious. Lots of seating inside, perfect for groups both big and small. The service was fairly fast and the food arrived quickly after ordering. Waiting time did vary per dish though. When we dined there for lunch, there was no wait and we were able to be seated right away.
The ayce dim sum (Monday to Friday) is decent and solid especially considering the price. Selections are a little limited depending on what time you go, but was not disappointed. Some of the dishes like sesame balls are pumpkin balls here and footballs are minced meat dumplings (lost in translation), but everything came out hot and fresh. Place is understaffed so service is a little uneven and some of the dishes that were ordered did not come due to the 1.5 hours time limit. Hurry for the ayce cause it’s suppose to stop at the end of July. The restaurant is open from 10am to 3pm and then from 5pm to 9pm and you can get the ayce dim sum at night.
No more AYCE 12/25 cuz all dimsum items start at $4.88 all day and free tea. There are 48 dimsum dishes for customers to select, and there is one underground parking on the side of entrance now. Lunch and dinner special is $14.88. This was my last comments for last year. Har gow(Shrimp dumplings) are great but the rest dim sums are average. However any AYCE restaurant are good for those have big stomach, I feel so full after I force myself to finish up my breakfast dim sum dishes cuz of their restaurant rules if you left over food, you will get penalty.
I was here for AYCE dim sum during weekday lunch. For $19.68 per person, I think it’s a good deal. I recommend coming here with 2-4 people the first time, so you can try everything. Between 2 people, we ordered 17 items, and it was too much. They really do charge you $3.99 per dish if it is unfinished. I overheard an unfortunate conversation at the table next to us. A lady was eating by herself and had so many leftovers. I thought the dishes were pretty good for being all-you-can-eat! The only one I really hated was the chili wontons. No one can do these better than Din Tai Feng! Get the fried turnip cake!!! Service was good. One lady spoke English. I think the others were mostly Chinese-speaking. The parking lot is connected to the restaurant from the back side. There are restrooms. Credit card is accepted.
Food 4/5 - Ordered typical dim sum, everything tasted good and was nice and hot (except egg tarts). Siu-mai was delicious, good size packed with lots of pork (soft with no chewiness). Shrimp in har-gow is good size and cooked perfect (nice bounce texture). Shrimp/leek dumplings have soft skin with good filling portion. Turnip cake has nice char on the outside and soft inside. Rice noodles are very soft. Sponge cake is soft and moist. Egg tarts were definitely baked earlier in the morning as it wasn’t warm, crust could be more flaky but it’s fine. Squid w/ black bean sauce, the squid wasn’t stir-fried long enough to absorb any flavor. Poached chicken was fine. Service 5/5 - Service is good, servers pass by consistently to pick up empty dishes and refill the tea pot without flagging someone down. Atmosphere 4/5 - Interior is good with Chinese themed decor. Overall - Had a pleasant experience and would visit again.
My buddy n I were furloughed during the 2025 government shutdown n decided to make the best during the furlough. AYCE dimsum sounded like a great selection. Came to Bistro 1968 n parking was easy. We were seated promptly as there was no line n only about 10 tables on a Tuesday around 1115. We selected many of the dimsum stables for our first round. Dimsum started to come after a few minutes. They were steamed to order as they were piping hot!! Both my buddy n I found the har gow, siu mai, seafood dumplings, n shrimp n beef rice rolls flavor were all very good. We both wolfed down everything n quickly ordered our second round. Totally for two was $42 before tips! What a steal as we must have 20 selections.
Came in for dinner, so this review is not on their ayce. I have to say the food portion and taste is top notch for dim sum/ Cantonese style food. The flavor is not super heavy as opposed to some restaurant just pour in the salt. There dim sum choice price range $7-9, they also have a lot of $15 which all come in generous portion. Overall I have to say this place is a bit of surprise to me on how good the food is and affordability. I will definitely go back for their ayce and see what that offers.
NO MORE AYCE DIM SUM AS OF NOV 30TH, 2025! - medium sized parking garage - dim sum $4.88 each (which is great because you cant find under $5 much these days!) - lunch special $14.88 per dish - delicious, authentic cantonese flavor - plenty of seating, can call ahead to make reservations if needed - you might need to wait during peak hours, but service is fast overall, 4/5 stars!
Went on a Tuesday afternoon for a table of two. Service was great and attentive. Dishes came out fresh & hot, even the desserts. Items ordered: 1. Snow cap bbq pork bun - this was the best thing we ate. 2. Cucumbers - cold, refreshing and a good flavor of black vinegar and garlic. We ordered two of these. 3. Chicken feet - meaty and good flavor, on the sweeter versus savory side though 4. Black bean spare ribs - not seasoned enough and pretty bland, would skip this 5. Shrimp rolls - honestly the worst one I ever tried. Absolutely no flavor in the filling. Recommend skipping to have room for other dishes. 6. Wagyu beef rolls - just a tad better than the shrimp rolls but would also skip 7. Taro cakes - took a while to come out but was super fresh and hot. Not bad but definitely a large order for just two. 8. Ha Gow - average, wished the mustard sauce was better, a bit watery and tasted different than what I am use to 9. Siu mai- average to good 10. Lava buns- came out warm but could be hotter, not too sweet and salty. 11. Egg tarts - average to good 12. Chicken wings with salt seasoning - tasty and came out super hot. Overall, would come back maybe ideally with 3 people. Would skip most of the dim sum items and try the more lunch items. Dessert items here are executed pretty well. For $20 definitely easy to get moneys worth!
We went for lunch today. Food just okay but we paid for almost $30 per head. Not too many items for choice. The beef balls are not fresh, the shrimp dumplings and shrimp rice rolls have very thick skin. But looks valuable if you go there during Mon-Fri will apply only $22.xx plus tax per head.
This all you can eat dim sum place is amazing, with good quality, good portion size, and a reasonable price $25.88 per person. My wife and I ordered 11 dishes, liked Steamed chicken feet, Beef tripe, house special crispy shrimp, sliced taro cake, and crab meat egg roll. Others were okay or so so, including Egg Tofu w/ Abalone sauce, Bean curd skin roll in soup, Minced pork dumpling, Seaweed & Shrimp paste cake, pork Siu-Mai. It's better to go with a group of people so you can try as many dishes as possible.
This restaurant offers a Dim Sum All You Can Eat Menu with a 90 minute time limit. There is a wide variety of dim sum options to choose from encompassing all of the common dim sum options. Our group ordered the shrimp har gow, pork siu mai, spareribs with black bean sauce, steamed chicken feet, supreme beef balls, sticky rice wrap, bean curd skin roll in soup, house special crispy shrimp, pan fried turnip cake, minced pork dumpling, snow caped bbq pork bun, wagyu beef rice noodle, beef chow fun with soy sauce, pan fried noodles with supreme soy sauce, bbq iberian pork with honey, steamed lettuce, chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, thousand year eggs and pork congee, and okinawa brown sugar cake. Some of the best pics here were the bbq iberian pork and the snow caped bbq pork bun. The usual siu mai and har gow were fairly decent quality and good portions too. The tables are quite spread out so there’s a lot of space between guests but it also may mean there could be longer wait times. Staff are very good and are quick on their feet when taking orders and sending items to tables. The inside is decorated as a middle tier chinese restaurant with classic lettering and portraits of food. There is a parking structure that you can enter from San Gabriel Blvd; the entrance can be a little tight to enter at first. Overall for the current $25.88 per person price, this is a decent deal if you’ve got many people who can work up an appetite.
All you can eat dim sum for $26 before tip and tax. Food comes out quick after placing order, big portions and food tastes decent. Menu is standard and time limit is 1.5 hours. No wait at 10am on a Sunday. Definitely worth a try.
We visited here on Sunday, and it’s important to note that finding parking can be a bit challenging; we ended up parking on the street. The check-in process had a long line, and we waited almost an hour for a table. Once seated, the dim sum was quite good, but the service was a bit slow when it came to food delivery.
1st time trying them out their new promotion $4.88 for all dim sums. Menu cut down tremendously selection compares to previous varieties as shown on website. Most of dim sum was extremely bland as I usually prefer low sodium. Not sure if ingredients are not too fresh or what? The Beef Rice Roll is tasteless even with soy sauce, I think they diluted sweet soy sauce way too much. The Spinach Shrimp Dumpling was soggy and thick skinned, and again with bland fillings. The Mushroom Shui Mei has 1 tiny bit of shrimp in there, I think if mine would be better even being an amateur. The Red Chili Won Tons were not what you normally expect, they were Cantonese Won Tons in mainly just soy sauce, well maybe very very tiny bit of chilli flakes, lol. The only thing I think are acceptable are their wrapped Lotus Dumplings and XO Lok-Bak Go. But it's hard for me to return with just those 2 items, lol. Oh luckily the tea was free and complimentary. I choice Jasmine but again it has no aroma perhaps from a tea bag which isn't a common practice for dim sum restaurants? It's a good thing that we only ordered 7 dishes, but already it's a waste of our $44.
I was in town and family suggested coming to this place and I was told the restaurant had gone through some changes. We arrived for dim sum, and everything was ordered off the menu. None of the food stood out and the food lacked seasoning. They also didn't have any beef tripe dim sum, which is one of my usual favorites. Everything was just average. I hope in time they work things out and improve their food. I wish them well!
They have their own parking lot, which is a plus. We went for the AYCE dim sum, which was actually decent tasting and well priced. Our waiter spoke both English and Chinese so we were able to order what we wanted from the menu. The actual dim sum portions were on the larger side. I would definitely come back here for the AYCE dim sum. Note I went on a Wednesday at 7 p.m., there was no line. I have no idea what the wait looks like on a weekend. With dim sum prices in the area I think this was a fair price and the food was good. Some dishes were not what I was used to, but they still tasted good. Fav dim sum dishes were: pan fried mixed mushrooms, chicken wings with spicy salt, spareribs with black bean sauce, chonese broccoli, chicken feet, pumpkin sesame ball, Okinawa sponge cake. They also have private rooms and a regular dinner menu.
I was really looking forward to having dim sum for dinner with friends. We ordered the congee with egg, shu mai, har gow, turnip stir-fry, and Chinese broccoli, but overall the food was fairly mediocre. Keep in mind they don't have chili oil if you want to add some spicy flavor to the very bland food. The service was great at first; however, about 10 minutes before the 8 p.m. closing time, we were pressured to wrap up our meal and leave. I drove an hour and a half in traffic to dine here, so feeling rushed at the end was disappointing and took away from the experience. There are better places in SGV for dim sum!
Maybe I raise my hope too high for this place The food is not that good for me I really like the chicken feet , so order 2 of it, but the chicken feet here the sauce is too sweet and it’s not soft enough (for me) The congee is quite ok The Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce looks different from the a la carte menu ( I saw the review photo) so it’s disappointing The broccoli is too old so too chewy and the oyster sauce also too salty The other dishes are so so I went a long way to the restaurant and I hope food is great as the google reviews But I was disappointed Normally can eat 3 order of chicken feet ( it is my favorite) but had to force myself to finish it here. And after this meal , I drank the whole kettle of hot tea but still thirsty, I guess there are a lot of magic elza powder. I really wish I would be full and happy after the meal but just only full.
Popular Dim Sum place in San Gabriel valley. Seems to us most of the steamed items were from frozen. Test were very bland. Chili oil not available here. It’s a typical restaurant aimed for cheap and quantity hope to overcome taste. Service was good. Will not be back.

Waited over 2 hours to get inside because the staff kept skipping numbers to seat larger parties before our group of 4 (we saw them adding chairs to tables with 4 seats to turn them into 6-8 seat tables). Food was visually appealing but the quality was on par with other places in the area and the prices were inflated. We also ended up canceling a few orders because the kitchen took over an hour and still hadn't brought them out by the time we were done with everything else. Interior is nicely decorated, but crowded. Parking is difficult.
Canto here. And having tried dim sum all over LA, HK, SF, Vancouver, etc. I think my expectations for good dim sum is just a bit higher than most. 1968 was quite underwhelming and I won’t even say it’s a good value even with the AYCE option. We tried nearly 80% of their dim sum dishes and none of them were standout. The rice paper skins were far too thick and textures were rubbery like the shrimp. Bbq pork bun fillings were dry and shumai is sloppy. We liked the bolo bao but that was it. I had a group of other canto relatives with me and we all agreed that for a Saturday morning this was a letdown compared to all the other amazing places in the SGV. Freshness and tenderness in their dishes could be significantly improved.
Our 2nd time here and the quality and taste of some of the food that we had last time had sadly declined. Baked bbq pork bun didn't have enough fillings, stuffed bean curd taste kinda weird. I didn't like the texture of the minced meat in it. The noodles were bland and oily. The fried rice wasn't up to par as the way Chinese would prepare it. The rice was kinda soggy. Like it wasn't cooked in a high fire wok as it should be. It was bland too. The steamed bbq pork bun didn't have that much filling either. Food that I can recommend was the BBQ Hibernian pork, HK custard, Siomai ...so...so..I had better. And a lot of there steameddumplings had a very thick wrapping that I couldn't eat, because your gonna get full with it. Sorry forgot to take photo of it. I was gonna introduce this Bistro to my family and friendsbut, sadly because of these experience I won't be taking them here anymore or recommend this place.
Initially, I was excited that this place was AYCE. I came here during lunch. The first few plates I ordered were good. After that, everything else tasted mediocre or wasn't good at all. The decent dishes were: shrimp har gow, soy pan fry noodles, siumai, and chicken feet I didn't like these plates: beef balls (lacked flavor), beef chow fun (barely had any meat), steam turnip cake (this tasted mushy and disgusting!), seafood dumpling (shrimp on the inside with unnecessary excess dumpling skin on the outside to make you full faster), spare ribs (thick chunks), and wonton in chili oil. The staff brings out the dishes after ordering on paper. The food comes out hot. They use too much soy sauce and sodium in their dishes. You can't leave leftovers, or else you'll get charged $4/plate. Their portion sizes are bigger than other typical dim sum places, especially the noodle dishes. They charge extra (~$6 more per person) during big and even small holidays and the weekend (almost $26 instead of $20). You also get a pot of hot tea for $2/person. The restaurant temp was on the warmer side. AC temp must have been set higher because I started sweating the whole time while I was there; I'm usually the one who's cold. There's a free parking structure in the back of the building, where the entry is on the right side. Sometimes, the parking lot is packed where you may have to park on the street. It's better to come in a larger group so they can help you finish off the food that weren't as good, so you can try more dishes and hope the dishes you select taste good lol. For the price I paid, I'd rather go elsewhere and enjoy the food, and I'll still be able to take leftovers home without an additional charge. The best thing about this place is that the workers are efficient.

This was all around a bummer for me. First off the service was good. But the seafood noodles I ordered included shrimp and fish that smelled bad. The chef should know better. Even the carrots in the noodles smelled old. After hour later, my stomach started feeling weird probably because of oil, and old ingredients they used. I should’ve said something to the chef. Honestly, I’m so regretting to choose this restaurant. The other food was just okay. It’s hard to understand why people say this restaurant serves good food. Unfortunately I can’t go back. I really wanted to like it.
