Opinions de Claw Shack San Jose
Our favorite seafood restaurant. Come every month at lease once. The shrimp is very fresh tasty.
Claw Shack is my favorite seafood spot in San Jose! The shrimp and crawfish are HUGE and super juicy, and their sauces are the best — especially the Shambalang and Shackie’s Sauce. You have to get the garlic bread to dip in the sauce… it’s seriously addicting. Their chicken wings and garlic noodles are also bomb! The service is always friendly and fast, and the food comes out hot and fresh every time. Definitely a must-try if you love seafood!
The food and service are great!! It's a little pricey but understandable given the ridiculous rents businesses have to pay. My fav is the boil combo. It's enough for 2 people and a good price. Love that you get to choose the seasoning flavor of your food and mild to hot heat. Covered outdoor seating and great music playing in the background.
This order was a special request from family members living out of town. Clawshack is one of the best seafood boil this side of the bayarea. They never seem to run out of people who patiently wait for a table to open. You really get to enjoy a delicious dining experience from a simple menu enhanced by a collection of spice challenging and mouth watering flavors. We always order their delicious shrimp and clam combo drenched in spicy shambalang sauce. An absolute 10/10
This place is hidden gem. While Boiling Crab and Kicking Crab get all the press, this is actually a really good alternative to getting the Cajun-ish styled seafood in a bag. The pluses are: - Great fresh seafood, the headless shrimps are particularly great. - Good prices given the quality of the food. - Clean and quiet; it's cleaner and comparatively quieter than kicking crab, for example. - Great service. The young server at our table was cheerful and gave good recommendations. She even brought out the different sauces for us to try out before we ordered. The downside is that this place is small. So if you have a big party, you'll have to split the group into different tables. All in all, my wife and I are pretty impressed with this place. Definitely will come back again!
Comparably good compared to the other popular seafood boil places in the area, with similar wait times. The shambalang sauce was a hit, but I felt their garlic butter could have been more garlicky and buttery. Wings were delicious as well--tried the lemon pepper (crispy and tangy) and the garlic honey (sweet) and enjoyed both. Garlic noodles were also a must, very tasty, with a hint of unexpected sweetness. Service was very pleasant and fast. Overall I would recommend a stop here.
This place was just ok for me. I ordered the sampler. The fish wasn't very flavorful, definitely needed some seasoning. The shrimp was, meh. I would've preferred batter/tempura style shrimp, this was a planko type breading and again, needed seasoning. The calamari, well, I'm not a calamari fan like that. So, not sure why I ordered that meal. A table across had boils, they looked and smelled delicious. If I come back, I'm ordering a biwl. All in all, it was ok, I'll probably keep searching for better seafood spots in SJC.
My friends and I got the (shrimp + mussel) combo bags, garlic noodles and the sampler. The Shackies sauce was good! The seafood was not overcooked and the shrimp was bouncy. I would have preferred more sauce (you can pay for extra sauce) and although I liked that the garlic noodles came with whole garlic cloves, I thought the noodles were a bit overcooked for me. The fried fish from the sampler was nice and crispy.
On the napkin holder there's a description of the sauces. I think service and food came out fast. I only got crab but everyone I was with seemed to have a good time and we all enjoyed the garlic noodles. I love that there's a separate sink to wash hands outside the bathroom. Plenty of parking outside; friendly and attentive staff.
We wanted to try a different seafood spot since we always go to the same spot so we decided to go to Claw Shack. We got the mild 1lb shrimp, 1 lb crawfish combo with the Shambalang sauce and an order of garlic noodles. Mild flavor was had a kick of slight spiciness which is the perfect mildness I was looking for. The sauce was good but it could be a bit better. I'm curious to try the other sauces they have! Garlic noodles was a good addition to the seafood since I like to have a mixture of food when eating. Service was friendly. The servers were very attentive and kept coming up to refill our waters. This is a great spot for seafood cravings. The spot feels comforting the moment you step in. I would definitely come back to try their other flavors!
Usually this place is pretty good, but the last time we went, the sand was still present in a lot of the clams, which made it unpleasant to eat. Hopefully they can start cleaning out the clams better!
Shambalang Boiled Crawfish 2 too small, medium flavorful Shambalang Boiled Headless Shrimp 3 large Corn 3 sweet corn Potato 2 whole
We ordered the seafood sampler, clam chowder, and two pounds of crawfish with two flavors at medium spicy (Shackie's and Shambalang). The staff was very friendly and explained their two popular sauces and the flavor profile to us. The clam chowder was rich and creamy, maybe even a bit buttery, the clam was also pretty tender. (4/5) The seafood sampler was pretty standard, came with tarter sauce and cocktail sauce. The batter was really crispy but didn't give it much flavor most of the flavors came from the two sauce. The cocktail sauce was good, it is on the sweeter side with a hint of horseradish, which was a nice touch (3.5/5). The tarter sauce was pretty standard, just tasted like mayo and a little hint of lemon juice and relish. The crawfish was cooked well. Better than some places I been to, where it was over cooked and a bit mushy. Both flavors were pretty decent, but I wished they added a bit more sauce. (3/5)
In my quest to find new places to eat seafood during Lent, I finally got around to trying the Claw Shack. I've seen this place forever, and it definitely looks to have a devout following. Reviews were very good, and we decided to try it out. I can overlook the fact that a place can look a little run down if the food is good. (For you literary types, this is known as foreshadowing.) But the prices were good, the beer was cheap, and I was hungry. Our table went for almost all fried food tonight; chicken fillets, combo plates, fish fillets and fries. It was "just fine." All the food was crispy and hot, but just average in flavor. The fries were pretty good. My neighbor had the gumbo, and it was very, very tasty. Everyone around us was indulging in the seafood boils which looked delicious. Perhaps we made the wrong choice. What my wife received, in addition to her fish fillet, was her worst nightmare; there was a live SPIDER in her fries. Yes, you read that right. Fried fish with a side of Arachnophobia. That pretty much ruined everyone's meal at that point. A staff member came over, and they were very apologetic. They didn't charge for her meal, and they offered another complimentary beer. But this was something you could not come back from. It made us all look a little harder at how well this place was kept up. We noticed an electrical outlet without a protective plate with its wires hanging out. The ceiling was leaking water in front of the cashier creating a slipping hazard, and a trash can was used to capture the drops. Somehow I'd think that Cal OSHA or a health inspector might not be entirely pleased with these things. And if an establishment isn't taking care of the obvious, you wonder how well they are taking care of the details. I don't enjoy writing reviews that aren't flattering. The restaurant business is tough, and I am sensitive to that. I hope the Claw Shack tries to "right the ship." But, needless to say, I will be getting my seafood elsewhere.
My husband and I were quickly seated and the menu was straight forward. We ordered our food with the Shackies sauce. The sauce was decent enough but not as thick as the menu makes it sound. The shrimp was cooked better than other places I've been to. With all that being said, I had a few issues with this place. Unlike other seafood boil restaurants I've been to, the seafood could only be order by the pound instead of half pound increments. We got through 95% of the bag before seeing a medium length strand of black hair. I told waitstaff and was told they'd tell the kitchen. Now I didnt necessarily expect the meal to be free, but I was neither asked how they could make it right nor was I given an apology. I will not be eating here again.
On a Sunday evening, my family and I came to Claw Shack and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience with one particular waiter (photo attached). I’ve been coming here since my college years, and I've always enjoyed this restaurant because the staff has usually been kind and professional. Sadly, this time was different. While we were waiting on the bench inside for our table (as instructed by another staff member who said it would be less than 5 minutes), a waiter wearing a black hat and dirty shoes suddenly came up and told us to wait outside. He wasn’t our server or the manager, yet he insisted twice that we leave the restaurant and stand outside in the heat. This was upsetting, especially for our 2-year-old daughter, who had been happy walking in but ended up crying and frustrated once we were told to wait outdoors. What made it worse is that instead of helping his coworker clean up the table or even checking with them, this waiter stood in front of us and repeatedly told us to go outside. It felt unnecessary and rude, and it completely ruined our dine-in experience. I’ve been dining in Claw Shack since my college years with friends and family, and I’ve never encountered behavior like this from any staff member here. It was disappointing and unprofessional, and I truly hope management addresses this so that other families don’t have the same experience.
We were dine-in and two of my friends placed separate takeout orders, they were each charged a service fee on their individual takeout bills, which makes no sense for to-go transactions. When we questioned the staff, they claimed it was because we were seated at a table. Please note: the dine-in bill had already included a service fee. So I fail to understand why we were each charged an additional $20–$30 service fee on our to-go orders, in addition to tax and a 3.75% merchant fee. To make matters worse, the to-go order came out incorrect, and the bill they charged us was also wrong. We ended up wasting time going back and forth with the staff just to get the bill corrected—multiple times. Not only were we charged for a service we didn’t receive, but the entire process was frustrating and disorganized, further proving they didn’t deserve any kind of service fee for takeout. WARNING: CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE YOU PAY. DO NOT GET OVERCHARGED AND DO NOT COME HERE!!!!
Hmm this place, i don't know what's the hype for this place, but their service suck and their sauce are just decent, nothing special and the shrimp were smushy and not fresh at the time we dine in. It's one of those restaurants that struts like it's on a runway and all the staff who act like they're doing you a favor by letting you eat there. We went in while there were no seats inside the restaurant so they told us to wait outside then we saw the outdoor seating then we sat down and one of the staff gave us the menu and left... waited for 5 mins and we got a call saying now our table is ready so we went in and sat down. All the the staff were mumbling oh, thought they were sitting outside bla bla bla, then a waiter guy came by and said on, next time if you sit outside you cannot come back in side(despite there were Noone waiting at the time) so rude. No more going back there and I gave zero tips toward their unprofessional attitude.
