Some friends and I were in town for the Rangers-Sharks game last week - if you are from out of town and looking for a place to pregame, this is about an ideal spot as you will find, in San Jose or any other city. Lively atmosphere (but not to the point where you can't hear each other), where you'll get to interact with local fans. Great beer selection. They have a really novel food ordering system where you can order when you first come in, wait in the bar, then when your food is almost ready they'll bring you to the back and seat you. I had never seen anything like that and it works great. Easy walk to the arena as well.
A SJ institution with the red neon sign, great food, and the team who delivers top notch service. Their toasted bread & butter is Bomb dot Com. Their might be a wait in the crowded bar area on a Friday or Saturday night but its for good reason. We can't wait to go back.
Great steak...juicy filet, cooked medium, added mushrooms. Perfection.
The half slab of ribs was the move. Perfect portion and cooked beautifully. Before that, they brought out fresh bread with a sweet marinara sauce, which was such a simple but awesome start to the meal. When the ribs came out, I was impressed right away. They weren’t swimming in sauce — which I personally love. There was just enough BBQ glaze to add that tangy flavor without masking the quality of the meat. That balance is hard to find. The ribs were tender, falling off the bone, and still juicy without being greasy or dried out. Nothing worse than overcooked ribs, and these were anything but. You could really taste the care in how they were prepared. Definitely a standout dish and one I’d gladly order again.
Just got back from Henry’s Hi-Life in San Jose – 301 Sharks Way. It’s a cool place with a real history, you can tell by the bar area. We were starving before the Sharks game, and they were surprisingly quick with the food, which was a huge plus. The ribs were pretty good, a decent size even though I only got half a rack. The mac and cheese was a bit watery though. Parking was super easy. It’s a bit pricey for what you get, honestly. I’d suggest maybe they could put a TV outside for people with dogs, like Kevin did!
Henry’s high Life is a San Jose historical staple of the community! They have some great barbecue, steaks, and prime rib. Pretty much you’re not going to leave here hungry and likely with a little leftovers. The prime rib is super tasty, especially the saltiness around the edges, and very moist. Love it. But my favorite of all time here are the baby back ribs. They are cooked to perfection with a perfectly textured outer cage, and falling off the bone meat. March that with their sauces and you’re in heaven! And while not a headliner, their garlic bread is delicious as well. Soaked in garlic and butter and goes so well with your meat! Have a drink at the bar, watch the games on the TVs, and just relax. They have a unique ordering style. You arrive you get a number and you order your food. Then you wait in the bar. Then after some time they’ll seat you. You get a salad and the garlic bread. Then just a few minutes later, your meat comes out. Super friendly staff.
One of the oldest and best barbecue places in San Jose, California hands-down it’s right next to the San Jose Sharks Arena so you could eat there and walk to the game if you like there’s also a park right there and it’s located in Little Italy. So Basically you just walk in and you take a number off the wall wait till your number is called then you order your food off the menu on the wall you wait at the bar area until they call you in like usually like five minutes depending how busy they are Friday, Saturday and Sunday are usually really busy. Just a heads up when you sit down you already have a salad waiting for you with your bread and your drinks. The food usually comes about five minutes later. The service is fast And the food is excellent and the staff there are very friendly. Highly recommended one of my favorite places to eat in San Jose.
So the hi-life has been there my entire life and it never fails even back in the day when flooding used to be a problem they would rally and become even more awesome. Every time I come to town it's my very first stop I literally go from the airport to the Hi-Life and as always they deliver amazing food and a fabulous atmosphere with super great employees! This will continue to be in my very first stop anytime I travel into the state and back home as long as they exist 😊
This place is great. Very laid back while maintaining strong quality. Came here for dinner after my flight got canceled and I had to spend an extra night in san jose. The bartender, Ryan, was awesome and had great banter. Got the ribs and ribs plate and it was fantastic. Smoky and tasty. Excellent beer and booze selection as well. If you want a relaxed venue that delivers great meat and alcohol, this spot is tough to beat.
Ok this place rocks! They were out of pork chops, porterhouse and another of my favorites and much is a testament to how good the food is. It was during Nvidia GTC and they got absolutely SLAMMED. However their system of ticketing + queuing that allowed folks to hang in the front while their tables were being prepared, paired with the fact that you would order a beverage from the bar actually worked very very well. I ended up getting a half slab of ribs which was the perfect size. The bread they brought out paired with a sweet marinara sauce was a great way to prepare for the main course. Interestingly, the ribs had very little wet sauce on them, which is exactly the at I like them. There was just enough to give you the tangy BBq flavor without it overpower the meat itself. I wish more chefs would prepare ribs this way! The meat was perfectly cooked, falling off the bone and hot but not scalding and dry (overcooked) like you might find at less discerning establishments. I can see why this place has a great reputation.
Henry's Hi-Lift is a unique experience that you shouldn't miss if you go to San Jose. The food is great and you've never eaten quite like this. First, you walk into the bar area and take a number. You'll have a few minutes to grab a drink and check out the menu that's posted on the wall (see picture). Once your number is called, you go to the hostess and place your order. That's it, then go back to the bar and finish your drink, maybe order another. There can be a wait. Finally, they call your name and bring you to your table. Your salad and buttered bread are already waiting there for you. Something about that ranch dressing is memorable. We got a 1/2 rack of baby-back ribs and a NY strip. Both were delicious as was the baked potato. No frills here, just efficient service, good food, and a good time
Wow what a blast from the past and the history and legacy of San Jose. As a 5th generation native having been born and raised in San Jose have never been to Henry's. That got fixed tonight and wow did we have a great time, there's a palpable, touchable electricity in the air, just a really fun vibe that you instantly sense as soon as you walk through the door check that even just as you walk up the neon lights and the building there's just this uncanny tingly goodness that jumps out at you and tells you you're going to have a good time as soon as you walk through those front doors. So you get inside and sometimes the weight can be 30-45 minutes or more but while is it worth it. We got there waited about 15 minutes ordered our food waited another 25-30 minutes got seated soon as we were seated the food was ready. Had the salmon and the New York steak and wow great tender piece of meat, cooked her perfection the salad was okay nothing to ride home about but solid and safe, baked potato is good, everything about this place Just screams local local. If you haven't been to Henry's high life you have to get in here and check it out this place is fun fun. Highly recommend.

A no-frill, steakhouse and bar that serves food perfectly. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned no need for steak sauce. The bread was delicious and perfect, as well as the sides included.
Pleasant, casual atmosphere. Steaks are very reasonably priced. Service is friendly and attentive. The seating/ordering process isn't great for new customers. You're required to view the menu on the wall while standing (sides, etc, are not displayed), then place your order before being seated at your table. If you're not very familiar with the menu, it's not a great experience. Additionally, one of our steaks (12oz New York) was overcooked. It was ordered medium rare, but temp was medium to medium well (grayish pink center). I'm hoping that was an anomaly and won't happen next time. Overall, I enjoyed it and will return.
I went here during my college days ordering the ribs, now years later I couldnt eat as much so I ordered the tri tip sandwich. We were served garlic bread and BBQ. Had a good conservation about whats in it. We sat outside because I had a dog. Our server was attentive and kind, food came out and it was big like a subway footlong. Dog loved pieces of my tri tip. When our bill came we were able to split it. Oh, times change, where my older body couldnt eat just meat. Only suggestion is a TV outside, so I can watch the game with my dog.
High-quality steaks, chicken, and ribs in the little italy section of San Jose. A little different setup. Go in and take a number. Wait for your number to be called and place your order, where they'll take your name. Wait for your name to be called, and you'll be taken back to your seat. From there, the food comes fast. Note: you order from the wall, but it doesn't list everything (e.g. - Mac n' cheese, which is really good). Ribs were great. Sirloin was decent.
Their check-in process is a bit unusual, but make sense. When we arrive, we had to get a number. When our number was up, the host came to take our order and we continued to wait at the bar. Then when the table was ready, we got seated and the food came quickly. Unusual, but quite efficient process. I went there specifically for their prime rib. I would say it was average. The pork belly side order was very good! Their Long Island Ice tea was quite strong.

There’s a specific bartender who just seems unhappy and seems very racist. He definitely sets the negativity in the room. Other than him, I love this pace every time I come! I live In San Jose born and raised, one of my top favs. Never disappoints!!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (2.5/5) Henry’s World Famous Hi-Life was an okay experience overall. The ribeye was cooked perfectly to my requested temperature, but it lacked flavor. The mushrooms were a disappointment — they tasted bland and looked like they came from a can. I did appreciate their seating and service system; we were short on time before the San Jose Sharks hockey game, and our food came out surprisingly fast. Parking was convenient, which was a big plus. The ribs were tender and had a good portion size even though I only ordered half a rack. The mac and cheese had decent flavor but was a bit watery, and the baked potato was pretty standard — though I did enjoy the touch of local butter and chives. The place itself is cozy, and walking in through the bar gives you a sense of the restaurant’s long history. Prices are on the higher side considering the limited side options and the quality of the cuts. Overall, a decent spot with fast service, but not quite worth the hype.
Very disappointed in the food quality. If you can make it 10x better at home, that's pretty bad. Sat at the bar because I was alone and the bartender seemed annoyed I was a non regular. Very cool atmosphere, but if you can't do chicken, not a reason to go. The st..Louis ribs were more like baby back tips. The bbq sauce was runny tomato soup.

The steak was upwards of $50 . It was definitely not prime meat. Ordered med- rare and it was still dry and chewy. Griddle. I really wanted to like this place. Service was excellent. But if you want good bbq would not choose this place again. Bill was >$100 ++ Greta a steak and my husband had pork chop .
