Opinions de Sushi Boat San Jose
They were taking a lot of huge DoorDash orders when I walked in. However, I was still quickly taken care of. Sat and got my Sprite quickly, same with ordering and receiving my food. Ah, the food. Everything was very good. I got Bento Box C with sashimi and deep fried items. The sashimi was tasty and buttery, there was panko shrimp, imitation crab, white fish, and potstickers. The fishing potstickers were the best of that selection. I got a spicy tuna roll as well. Very tasty and not too spicy. The stand out however was the miso soup! Hands down the best miso soup that I have ever had, and I've had the soup at quite a few different places all over California. If it wasn't so far out of the way on my drive home I would stop and get some to go! P.S. When I got my bill, I did get some to go but now it's gone and I miss it... 😟
We had dinner at Kazoo in Japantown the day after Thanksgiving—it was the only Japanese restaurant open, so we were happy to find a warm, welcoming spot. We ordered the unagi don (grilled eel over rice) and the beef udon: The unagi was tender with a nice char and a sweet-savory glaze. Generous portion, and the rice was fluffy and flavorful. The beef udon came in a light, comforting broth. Noodles had a good chew, and the beef was soft and satisfying. Service was quick, and the staff was friendly. One surprise: if you sit at the counter, your sushi arrives on a little bullet train delivery system—super cool and fun to watch. Would we go back? Definitely, especially for the udon on a chilly night. Domo Arigatou!
Delicious sushi 🍣 😋 😍 Super fresh & enjoyed every bite! Customer service was above expectations. The owner, she was the nicest & appreciative of our business. That made me feel good. Definitely another spot in my books 📚 👌 Had the see-through shrimp & spicy Hamachi roll... mmmmm delicious! They've got sake & beer but maybe another occasion. The grilled omelet was weird & tasted great in a surprising way; almost like dessert. Appreciate the sushi chefs & those who prepared our plates, thank you 🙏!
Finally tried Kazoo for the first time today. Walked in after 6pm on a Friday and got sat and greeted right away. There are many rude and misleading reviews here claiming this place is "just sushi from the 90s" (as if the decades running a business in Japantown are bad?), and I'm ashamed it took me over a year to try this place because of them. Some said the place was "old" and "just okay". But the grilled eggplant with miso was equally delicious and well-presented. My husband got poke nachos, which is a fairly modern dish (the chips were crispy wontons). Takoyaki was only $4.95 and our 3 rolls were $5.95 each, so it's difficult to guess where the "overpriced" reviews came from. Overall, the food was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were good. I'll definitely be back soon!
Awesome staff and delicious food. Went there with a group and we were really well pleased. The food is delicious and the place is ran by a family that really has the cosumer as their focus. And interesting fact is that they also serve vegetarian options, as well as different options like beef sashimi and oysters. Would love to go back one day. :)
First pure Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. Sushi does not only look amazing but you can also feel the freshness of all the ingredients. The owner is very sympathetic and open to small conversation. On top of that I really do like the basic interier which makes you feel like you are really somewhere in Japan. Do not forget to order the tea to prepare your mouth for extraordinary experience of taste. Thanks a lot for making my day! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Sushi is good and restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Don't get the bento boxes though since the meat could be quite dry.
Was in the area recently and decided to stop by Japantown in San Jose. The area’s got that real cultural vibe with a lot of family-run shops and good energy all around. We were hungry and Kazoo caught our eye right away with the sushi boats floating by. The restaurant was clean and overall had a nice feel to it. The staff was very welcoming and attentive throughout the time we were there. If you sit in the middle section, you get access to the conveyor belt, which is fun to watch with all the different plates going around. The sushi boats are definitely a cool touch, a bit of a novelty, but it makes the experience more fun, especially if it’s your first time here. Food came out fresh, and they’ve got plenty of options beyond the sushi boats. Some of the items were a little on the pricey side and not everything stood out flavor-wise, but nothing bad. Overall, solid spot to grab sushi if you’re in Japantown, this place has good food and worth checking out.
Service was great - very friendly and efficient. Two big screen TVs on sports. Small boats with sushi covered with plastic domes going on the water in the middle and then additional seatings along both walls. Dragon roll was good; grilled salmon skin had a bit more burnt taste than I like. The ginger was good. The tea complimented all of the flavors and there was no charge for the tea. I would like to go again and try their bento boxes next.
Located in Japan town, the restaurant has a cozy vibe and cute conveyor belt style. They deliver some of the smaller rolls through a “train”. However, vegans and vegetarians must be aware that the “vegetarian” bento on their menu is not vegetarian after all. The agedashi tofu comes with a dashi-based (fish) sauce, as well as the miso soup and spinach. I double checked when I ordered and the server was nice/knowledgeable enough to let me know there was dashi in the tofu and soup so I didn’t get the sauce or soup, but I didn’t know even the spinach was cooked in dashi. Pretty disappointing/traumatizing to find that out after my first bite. Service was very nice however, and the rating is solely based on the food and menu labeling.
Food: I ordered Tempura and Udon, Tempura was fair, but dipping sauce was tasteless. Udon noodles was ok, but the broth was over salted. Service: fair, took the order and served food, But not even bother to add hot tea . Restaurant: very clean and neat, but over used cleaner, very strong cleaner detergent smell., took over the sense of food.
I ordered takeout from this place after finding it on Google Maps, and unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. The sushi rice was soggy and lacked the usual sushi rice flavor, which really threw off the taste. The fish was okay — edible, but not particularly fresh. Overall, it was below average sushi. The karaage chicken was so salty for some reason… Honestly, even Costco sushi tasted better than what I had here. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy, but this definitely fell short.
Food was terrible and Sashimi tasted like like cotton. Dry and such small pieces of Ebi and Hamachi. Finding 2 Mexican chefs making the sushi didn't make me feel confident about the sushi and sashimi. Never again.
The food here used to be pretty good but recently it was very disappointing. All hot food came cold, even the tempura and gyozas. Like the gyozas were made for lunch a d reused for dinner but not fully reheated. Sushi was mid. California roll had too much mayo. I got the bento box with teriyaki salmon and spicy chicken. Salmon was luke warm and on dry side and lacked flavor. Spicy chicken, as seen in photo, was grilled chicken bathed in a mayo. The presentation was bad and the taste was worse. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. We spent $150 for food we didnt enjoy. Wouldn't recommend and won't be back.
