For a startup business, it is wonderful and has definitely made it's mark on the Cambrian community. It has great udon and rolls and for a great price. The service is friendly and professional and for a delicious filling lunch, my wallet didn't take too much of a hit. Some people say it's "definitely frozen fish" in some cases but I know that the owner does his best to provide the freshest ingredients. 10/10 food 10/10 service 10/10 experience Would recommend to anybody

My husband and I had lunch here. The food was amazing really good customer service all around. I'd highly recommend it. We had beef teriyaki and spicy tuna rolls. The rolls were fresh and really good with a nice amount of spice. The beef teriyaki was flavorful and tender. We will go again when were in the area.

So my dad told me about this place, as he lives very close to it. It's very inconspicuous and you would never think that it would have good sushi. However it is one of my favorite places for Japanese food. I would recommend it to anyone that can find it lol. Try the evergreen roll if you like spicy!

A not-fancy hole in the wall restaurant in a shopping center next to Petco, but the place is clean, the staff are friendly and courteous, and the food is great. Usually it's not too busy but every so often the place is packed. My husband and I have been coming here almost weekly for the past couple of years. Two thumbs up!!

Excellent selection of sushi and other Japanese dishes. Online order page let's you remove ingredients, which for someone who isn't fond of cucumber increases the rolls I enjoy.

The sushi here is fresh and amazing, every single time I visit. The head sushi chef, and owner I presume, always remembers me and greets me with a great attitude and a big smile. Best sushi place in the San Jose area for sure!!

Went there kinda late on 4/28/24. They were near closing, but they took our order and welcomed us. The food is amazing. We are very pleased. A bit pricey, but well worth it. They have an excellent online order system. We use it frequently. They are meticulous in their order preparation. We can't say enough. It's jusy spectacular !!! ✨️ 🥰👌💜🩵💙💚 I'll post photos next time we go.

The food was amazing! I ordered the Croquettes and the Raiders Roll. The croquettes were delicious! Crispy outside and soft yummy inside. The Raiders Roll was amazing too! The spicy crab was spicier than I expected, but it was still sooo good! My partner ordered a Chicken Donburi and a California Roll and I had a bit of those too and they were great!

Easily one of the best Japanese restaurants on the west side. The owner always greets you while he is making his sushi dishes. Service is top notch! All of the food tastes amazing!

It's a mom and pop sushi shop that really makes your mouth water and wanting to come back for more. Owners are extremely awesome and remember you if you're a regular. Staff are super attentive and the food is absolutely delicious. The rolls are awesome and the bento box is pretty filling. 10/10 come here. Support this place!!

I found this little restaurant through my daughter, who eats there quite often and even when she has been away they still remember her and exactly what she wants and how she likes it. The other day I ordered something to go while in town visiting her, over the phone and she waited in the car while I went to go get it. I forgot to give a name but when I told him I had an order for Danielle the Owner knew exactly who she was and asked if I was her sister! 10 points extra for him. Truly, they always make delicious fresh sushi. And consistently made every time. Great little gem of a place in an unlikly spot. Try Sushi Jae. You won't be disappointed.

I can't say enough about Sushi J. The atmosphere is so relaxing, the service above and beyond, and the food is perfection. I don't want anyone else to find it because I want it all to myself lol...

Awesome sushi. Taste fresh, great creativity with sushi rolls. Kid friendly! Customer service is great, and quick. Have a craving for a combination, Jae will gladly customize something for you. Location is a little small but clean. Park with ease. Highly recommend this spot. Try it once and you will be a return customer without a doubt.

A local gem! We don't have to drive 10-15 minutes to enjoy good sushi anymore. The owner is making really nice rolls and everything we had from the kitchen was great. The only issue is that they are new and have not yet found help for the sushi bar. So the order gets delayed a lot on Fridays/Saturdays. They once had to turn people away because he was so backed up (they also accept takr out orders). The owner told us he's been trying to hire someone for over two months. This hasn't stopped us from going back multiple times. If you can, prefer visiting on a weekday when it's more quiet.

Possibly the best little sushi place around. I have been here at least a dozen times and not one negative thing to say. Very clean, food is really good, priced fair and the service is excellent. It's not a black tie kind of place it's what you would expect for a strip mall restaurant, very casual. Try it, if you're a sushi fan, you will like it.

Soooo good. The staff was sooo friendly and the sushi was good. The bulgogi was not 100% what my bf expected but still really good and what do you really want at sushi restaurant? Good sushi. I had the Super Rainbow, the Fantastic and the Vegetarian Rainbow. We also had gyoza. The salad dressing on the salads were good too. Found our new favorite sushi place.

Excellent sushi! Wondrrful options with lots of creative and unique dishes. We got a number of maki rolls and they were all great. Fish was very fresh. We especially enjoyed the lion king roll. Service was very good, friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back again soon!

This is a wonderful family owned restaurant serving the best sushi in the area. The owner and staff are very nice and have awesome customer service. We have gotten takeout mostly and our order has always been ready exactly when they said. The sushi and sashimi have great flavor and are beautifully presented. Our favorites are Adam Bomb, Cherry Blossom, Dancing Heather, Fire Crunch, Mad Roll, Mango Paradise, MK Special, Orange Blossom, and the Burn. I always like to get a side of spicy tuna and it's got just the right amount of kick. The sushi and sashimi has consistently been fresh, had great flavor and beautifully presented. We have taken friends and family there and everyone has loved it.

Catered from here and the sushi platter, teriyaki chicken, gyoza, and edamame were fantastic! The fish was fresh and yummy and the owners were so nice that they even threw in things for us! Would 1000% come back here and recommend it highly!! Everyone loved it!

Why did I come here? Bad reviews. Yes, really. Call me strange but I was intrigued by reports of rudeness. I wanted to see what was happening. So, I ate here alone once. Then a 2nd time, then a 3rd time. And a few days ago, a fourth time, with a friend. EVERY TIME.... everyone here was so nice. Each person there was sweet, friendly, courteous and helpful. So... keep in mind, sometimes people can be jerks to restaurant workers, and when they are, and they encounter a worker who's had enough and isn't standing for it, unfortunately the restaurant is the one who endures a negative, and possibly unfair, review. My friend by the way says all sushi tastes pretty much the same to her. Ok. Fair enough. And even SHE noted with grateful surprise that this sushi at Sushi Jae stood out as surprisingly good. I agree. The rice and fish were the right temp (not refrigerator cold) and tender, fresh and beautiful. Oh man. I like the low sodium soy sauce option (which to me just tastes so much better) and the ice cold Asahi beer. So why 3 stars for Atmosphere? Not a criticism. It's just a very basic environment. I don't need flowers and fish tanks. I like the low, ambient lighting. I got the Sushi Combo (I think?). It was like 29 bucks. Salad and soup included. Would I change anything ? Yeah. I'd do away with the masks. One pretty girl wasn't wearing one, thank G-d. And I think the entrance to the store could be brighter and more stylish. I honestly think it's an easy place to drive past. Either way, I so look forward to going back.

Great service. Good food. The chicken katsu is one of the most tender around. Love the crispy skin on the Saba dinner/combo. The Lion king is extraordinary, my favorite sushi roll. The chef and his wife has been such wonderful host, genuinely great people serving the community.

Everything about Sushi Jae is very impressive. The fish is always incredibly fresh, the rolls are thoughtfully made, and each dish is full of clean, vibrant flavor. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and I immediately noticed how clean and well-maintained the restaurant was—something that always makes a great first impression. The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a delight, from the perfectly seasoned nigiri to the creative rolls that were clearly made with care and attention to detail. What really stood out to me was the balance of quality and value. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable for the level of freshness and taste. It’s clear that the owner and staff take pride in what they do, and it shows in every aspect of the dining experience. If you’re in San Jose and craving sushi, Sushi Jae is a must-visit. The combination of a welcoming owner, a spotless environment, and delicious, fresh food makes this place a standout. I’ll definitely be returning and recommending it to friends and family.

Have to rate it higher than the sushi places immediately surrounding it, but with it comes a slightly higher cost. Emphasis on ordering special rolls, but they could be a bit more generous with the fish. Try the seared nigiri. Easy parking. Small restaurant, but I have yet to see it busy which is convenient for now.

S

This was my first time coming here. I had a little trouble finding it because Petco over powers everything else in the shopping center. It's a small restaurant which was nice for meeting up with a friend. I only had two rolls, the lion king and mango crazy. I was a bit apprehensive about the mango crazy but I ended up really liking it. I will be going back to try more rolls on the menu.

A
Alex Ramirez

Good sushi, excellent noodles (bith the ramen and the udon), we loved the broil and the spicy tpuch of the ramen (even the mild ones are a bit spicy). The specialty rolls could use some more fish, but we like them anyway. Still the best sushi in the area. Very clean and excellent service if you want to dine in.

C
Charlene Teets

Pros : The waiters were very attentive. Place was clean and well decorated on the inside. Sushi options were unique. They had average sized rolls. Everything we ordered was pretty good; chicken karaage, dragon roll, Kay special, and something Paradise. Cons : outside wicker walls make the place looks a bit sketchy but the inside is pretty nice. They kept the AC right at the point that it didn't feel hot but it was not cool. Eel on the dragon felt a bit skimped but the eel was soft and the dragon did taste good.

S
Steven Davison

Really good quality sushi. The fish is very fresh; service was quick, accurate, and courteous; however, you are paying for the quality. The specialty rolls had local names and themes which were as amusing as they were tasty. I am also glad to see the.old DiPuccio's location replaced by a quality family business.

Sushi Jae is my go-to sushi spot whenever I'm looking for something local, fresh, and tasty! Not only is their sushi presented beautifully, but there's also a wide range of options so you never get bored. I am a huge fan of the Oshinko rolls, which taste great if you are a fan of sour or more tangy flavors. The mochi, in matcha, mango, and vanilla flavors, is always a nice dessert as well. They do a great job with takeout and dine-in (pre-pandemic) and I hope to be back in-person once everything gets better :) Give it a try and you'll be sure to come back for some more!!

Over all, pretty good. Sushi was fresh, rice was tasty, and the place is clean and comfortable. I'd like to see a better option for lunch specials. And the prices are a bit pricy. Over all, not bad. But I'd probably go somewhere with better price/food ratio.

I like eating there, but we had to find another restaurant for our weekly To go order; because they "Will Not do the kids menu items To Go" for our kids!!! Also the take home rolls are always a little sloppy and feel smaller. Easy Parking.

I'm not against japanese restaurants that are not owned by a japanese owner, but I wish if they are advertising their restaurant as a japanese restaurant, then they should at least do some more research on how to make the food. I had chicken katsu and the meat had some flavor as if the meat was marinated in some sauce before they fried it. It wasn't good and it's not how japanese people make katsu. I also had some sushi. I think sushi was ok but not that great.

Restaurant small and dark from the outside, located in a plain strip mall. Inside ok, but a little dark. Prompt service. Miso soup ok, but not much tofu. Salad fine and good sized serving. The 2 hand rolls were surprisingly small. Chirashi: the sashimi was fresh, but I was disappointed because not much quantity for $24: 3 thin slices of 5 types of sashimi, and not much rice. The seafood ramen is more Korean-style than Japanese-style; the seafood was fine but unfortunately the noodles tasted like instant ramen rather than fresh ramen. Diet Coke was in a can, so no free refills. The staff seemed nice, but unfortunately I will not return because I know of many other sushi places I like better.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and it was a pretty good experience EXCEPT for after my friend and I both got sick after eating there. We didn't eat anything else together prior to the visit or after. It wasn't food poisoning, but it didn't make the plans that we were going to do afterwards any better.

~~Parking: Plenty of parking. It's located within a small plaza next to a PetCo. The surrounding stores don't really drive that much traffic into the plaza, so there was LOADS of parking available.

~~Service: The staff was nice and attentive. They kept an eye on my friend and I to know when we were ready to order and they came by to refill out water a couple of times.

~~Best Part: The sushi over all was pretty good. I got the Lion king roll and the Mad dragon roll. I personally liked the mad dragon roll more b/c it was spicy. I'm not big on raw seafood, so it was nice that the waiter was able to point out all of the cooked options.

~~Worst Part: The aftermath of eating there.....

~~Tips: Don't get their ramen (plain and noodles are like Top Ramen). It's a sushi place, so that's what they're better known for.

~~Return: I wouldn't just because of the stomach ache after.

Staff is polite but foods plain bad. Worst dining experience I’ve had in recent memory Rolls consist of an immense amount of fake crab, a tiny piece of raw fish, and doused with sticky sauces. Also keep in mind most menu items are +$5 compared to images on Google reviews
