I love Tomo. It's like home. The food is delicious, the service is second to none. I really enjoy every opportunity I get to come here and eat some amazing fish.
Excellent little sushi spot. I like nigiri and Anthony provided a terrific experience. Nothing fancy and no rolls, just high quality fish with the right amount of rice.
Great local sushi spot with friendly service and excellent food. Enjoyed a few different rolls, grilled hamachi collar, seaweed salad, and some miso soup. They are open a bit later than most spots so was thankful for the late meal!
Use to come here often but it was been a while. Swung in for dinner with my kids. The staff was very friendly, paid special attention to my kids with drinks and kids chop stick. The sushi was fresh and prepared quickly. Our waitress was very attentive and was constantly making eye contact in case we needed anything. The costs were very reasonable. Highly recommended.
10/10 will visit again! sushi was fresh and well made, service was prompt and friendly, loved the calm atmosphere.
I had one of THE BEST meals of my life Friday. The food was perfectly prepared and was absolutely delicious. What also made it ideal was the impeccable service. The green tea tempura ice cream is out of this world.
This was our favorite sushi place near our place. The sushi was always amazing and the chef and staff were always awesome. If I'm the area, I will definitely go to it. I give this one 5 out of 5 but it should be more like 10 out of 5 :-)
Best sushi and sushimi ever! First class. Fresh and Anthony, the Sushi chef, is amazing. He even does custom orders! I fly down from Portland periodically just for dinner there. Highest recommendation!!!
Great place!! It’s one of the best sushi places that I’ve ever tried. Everything was fresh and so authentic.
As times are still tough through this pandemic life we are still living. I know I can always trust that the sushi from Tomo sushi will always be one of the most superior choices South San Jose has to offer! For those of you that do not really like seaweed, the rice paper instead inside the roll is an excellent substitution! And the Tomo tempura rolls are fabulous! Definitely should try them. And the Salmon Nigiri is perfectly proportioned. As I have been coming to this fabulous establishment for years, I truly hope to continue coming for more years to come! Bravo to Anthony the owner!
Food, quality, service, atmosphere was amazing. I live out of state but would definitely recommend it and always try to go every time I’m in San Jose
While we're on the way home last Thursday afternoon, we decided to stop in here for dinner. Actually this Sushi restaurant is only a walk away from our home but that was the first time we stopped in. My hubby ordered beef teriyaki and kalbi which are very delicious. They offer us to try their special sushi so we ordered bay scallop roll. Everything melts in our mouth so my hubby bought another bay scallop roll and one of their maki sushi for our midnight snack. Seriously, you need to visit Tomo Sushi if you live nearby. Worth the money. The quality of their sushi ingredients are simply the best. Overall, good prices, outstanding service, smiling crew and the best sushi around! My new favorite sushi restaurant in San Jose.
One of our faves, used to be regular fri spot, we now make sure to visit each time in town. Great food n service, good value. ... shots with Mr. Lee a must try, quaint and traditional.
Lovely environment, experienced and mature wait staff and lovely presentation of Bento/Sushi fare. Have never Sat if front of chefs at bar, but it always looks lively there.
Tomo Sushi is a hidden gem. Everyone who greeted us was incredibly friendly. I really appreciate the fact that you can customize your rolls here, like extra tobiko, etc. Very accommodating and very delicious! Thank you Tomo!
Amazing food, great service! I’m so glad we found this spot. It’s our go to sushi place now!
I believe our Sushi chef was the owner of the restaurant. He provided friendly service and made us very good sushi rolls and hand rolls. Very good experience and want to return for more sushi.
This is my favorite restaurant in San Jose. I make a point of dining here every time I am in town. I used to visit here every week when I lived there beginning in 2009 until I moved to Seattle in 2022. The staff are all very friendly and the quality of the seafood used in sushi is fantastic. I highly recommend sitting at the counter and mingling with the regulars and the chefs as they are a lot of fun.
the space there is not big, but the service and quality is good. Sushi is also fresh and reasonable price.
So good! Great service. Fresh fish. Awesome atmosphere. Can get crowded so go early. Order a beer in a frosty mug!
Best sushi ever. The sashimi is the best. Anthony and Mr. Lee are always delivering the best food, the sushi bar is the place to sit if you want to get in the action.
Incredible food with great service. Malcom X roll, Albacore and a Kani Roll.
All rolls and soft shell crab were very good, great attentive service

I have been going to this place for 20 years. The food is amazing! You will not find another place like this. The whole atmosphere here is amazing. When you walk in they are quick to greet you and are always so kind. They really know how to make you feel welcome
This is my favorite sushi spot! I've been coming here for over 15 years and never once had a bad experience. Actually, I don't think we've ever even had to wait for a table (they get busy at dinner but not packed). The food is delicious and I love that you can see them making the rolls right up front. My sister and I meet here for sister dates 1-2x a month so they've grown to know us and our usual orders. Not too expensive but everything is so good that we often eat a lot lol. The staff is so attentive and caring and they've remained largely stable over time so the place truly feels like home.
Wonderful place that I have slept on. Interior is decorated like the sushi places I frequented growing up which was a beautiful breath of fresh air in the Bay with how gentrified everything near by has become. Every roll and nigiri we had was great. They also had some menu items I don't see often, like wakame inside of the roll. The sushi chef, whom I presume is the owner, was very friendly and chatted with us a bit while we sat at the sushi bar, and the waitress was very friendly and nice. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality. The rice was seasoned perfectly. Additionally the rolls were very light on the sauce, which was wonderful. When I eat sushi, I don't want to just get a mouthful of sriracha mayo. I want to actually taste the great cut of fish. They use a light and tasteful touch. Highly recommend this place that has been around for over 30 years!
What an amazing little hidden gem! My wife and I came in here for date night to try some place we've never been. The sushi chef (owner) was amazing. We sat the the sushi bar and there was a couple sitting next to us, so friendly, gave us some amazing recommendations. The prices are great and the food was really top notch! I've been to several places in Japan and this compares!
We love sushi and recently moved. We were looking for a place close to home and just so happened to stop by here. Great food, friendly and funny staff. I have a VERY strong willed little one and they had no problem accepting him and his many personalities, which has always been difficult for others to accept 😂 Made it easier for us to enjoy dinner as parents to an over-achieving baby.
Tomo Sushi is hands down the best sushi spot in San Jose! The quality of their fish is exceptional—always fresh and flavorful. Every dish is beautifully presented and bursting with authentic flavors. The service is top-notch, with a friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or just looking to enjoy a great meal, Tomo Sushi consistently delivers an outstanding dining experience. If you're in San Jose and craving sushi, Tomo Sushi is definitely the place to go. Highly recommend!
I'd come here a couple years ago and loved it but sadly had not returned due to the pandemic. Happy to say it was just as delicious as I remembered when I returned this week! I really loved the Bruce almighty roll, but the dragon, caterpillar, and Bob hope rolls were all fresh and tasty too. We did try the Lenny and wes roll as well, but I didn't like the creaminess though it is advertised as creamy so can't blame them for it.

Special rolls were pretty good. Sashimi was also pretty good. The miso soup was only okay. I’ll probably give this place another shot when I’m in the area.
We had the omakase sushi and the combo dinner which included four pieces of nigiri, yakitori, and shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura and the chicken yakitori were quite good, and some of the pieces of the nigiri, especially the salmon was also quite good. Overall, it wasn't anything particularly special. The best sushi place in the valley (by far for nigiri, sashimi, and appetizers) for me thus far is Tomi sushi in the mitsuwa plaza. The main issue with Tomi sushi is that it is often too crowded. Otherwise, the quality of the fish and rice at Tomi sushi is far better.
Nice tonkatsu, good sized portions, good range of sake which they serve both chilled and warm (chilled by default it seems). Very homely atmosphere, prompt service. Not the cheapest place, but you seem to get what you pay for. Food for two people ex-drinks was about $35+tax. Walked in 7pm Friday night and got seated right away.
Cozy little restaurant with good parking. We went there on a Monday evening and was plenty of parking available. The food was decent and prices reasonable. The Atmosphere was cozy.
Place is clean, quiet and service is rapid. The miso was a bit stale... maybe it was my tastebuds. I only tried the crab avocado roll, edamame, the miso and their plum wine...the wine was screaming delicious! I will definitely be returning to try out their sushi selection, it looked great.
Good value for the price. Only problem for me was that I specifically talked to two servers about my sesame allergy to request it be left off, but then both my hamachi roll and my salmon shoyaki contained sesame.

The restaurant has been around for a while and has an authentic atmosphere. Ordered pickup on a Friday night and was pleased with the freshness and taste. Returned the following week and ordered specialty rolls for 4 ppl, asking the waitress for recommendations - at the end, 3 of of 6 different specialty rolls were exactly the same with only avocado vs salmon vs avocado/salmon/tuna on top. Would have expected the waitress to guide me into variety.

Waited about 20-25 min on a Wednesday night. Food was pretty good. Oysters were very fresh. The dragon rolls were super yummy. It's a pretty tight fit. You may be asked if you are ok sharing a table. They do not accept reservations. Parking may be a challenge. Will be back to try more items.
Got the teriyaki chicken and it was not that good at all. The sushi we got was okay definitely gonna search for other places.
The service is great. The food is meh. There are definitely better Japanese places, like in downtown San Jose. I think they have too many things on the menu. It's a combination of sushi and traditional comfort food, like donburi. As a result, it's "Jack of All Trades, Master of None." I would suggest you guys specialize.
**updated Went again to find the quality had dropped. Sashimi has a fishy smell, Tonkotsu is over cooked so tested dry The decoration of this restaurant is very old-fashioned, with a style from 25 years ago. I ordered sushi rolls and I liked them. They were made in an old-fashioned way, simple and without too much sauce. Tonkatsu was crispy but too thin . Service is nice . I think I will go back to try other items later .
Rolls were okay, tasted good and median prices were like $15. But a small bowl of udon priced $18.5 was a bit much, let alone a $12.5 soft crab appetizer which was just one tiny crab cut into 4 pieces..

The food was just ok. I ordered California roll with real 🦀 expecting it to be 🔥 because it's real crab. Not so much, I was a bit disappointed. And the veggie roll with lettuce? I will never order sushi with lettuce again. What was I thinking!?
Good quality food but too expensive for what you pay for. Soft shell crab dish ~$10 you get one small soft shell crab. Order five of these, and bill with tip is ~$75. And you are not even 25% full. If they increase quantity, I will give 5 stars. P.S. Came here by mistake thinking this was Tomi sushi and seafood buffet.
The food was a little piece and they shouldn't have pictures of food you can't order. I was excited to order a combination of sushi of a beautiful picture that I had seen the lady said I cannot order a picture I was very disappointed. It led me to eat something that I was not happy about anyways the food was not bad I enjoyed it.
Wait staff mixed. One nice, one not so nice. Salmon had tough edge I have never seen before. Eel was very chewy and cold. Spider roll was 95% lettuce . Not a very nice experience.
Sushi was ok soup was terrible and just soup cost 24$ 4 pc of shrimp 5 clams cost 24$ and when I asked manager to explain he was so angry definitely won’t come anymore 👎

Rolls and sashimi were ok, sesame chicken was soggy/chewy low quality pieces of meat. When attempting to talk to our waitress about it she refused to say anything and sighed at every pass of the table. Not planning on returning but if you go maybe stick to rolls/sashimi (although we did find hair in ours, they really should use hairnets or something when making the sushi).
