Upstate: a year later and still a great spot! Great place, great owners. I always come to the airport a bit early to hang out and have a nice lunch and a few beers
This is a great island dive right near the airport. Slightly expensive and cash only but worth it! Chef makes homemade dumplings 4 days a week (I think Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and can’t remember the other day) that are amazing! Also was the best crab Rangoon I’ve had. I came on a different day as well and had a truly delicious grilled mahi mahi on a Caesar salad. An outdoor spot with a friendly owner, a bird, and plenty of ice cold medallas. Highly recommend as I feel this is better than most of the fare in Esperanza or Isabel.
Ok, first, disclosure, it is what it is: a very random bar on the parking lot. But it is steps to the airport and even the airline staff came to it to look for me, while I was having my beer and they wanted to board early! There is a pretty bird (a parrot), a cooler full of beer, and actually a full menu. A horse walked by crazing on the little piece of grass. This is a perfect introduction to the island once you land or a last drink before you leave.
Stopped in before a flight back to Isla Grande. It was bingo day. Families and folks were having a great time. Townie bars are few and far between these days. This place is a gem.

We made a stop at the Isla Nena Cafe to see if the rumors of Sloppy Joe Rangoons were true. Not only does this exotic species exist, Isla Nena is its home range! Served with a sweet and spicy sauce, these yummy treats were incredibly satisfying! We also ordered a couple of less rare items, Chicago Hot Dogs and Chicken Quesadillas (made with juicy tenders). Washed down with ice cold beverages, it was the perfect lunch. This is a very local, cash only business complete with horses and kitties standing guard in the ample parking lot. The service was quick and companionable. Watch planes take off and land at this airport at the bar!
Incredible spot. The husband runs the front and the wife cooks. The food is incredible and they were extremely accommodating for my mom’s GF allergy. 10/10 GO HERE!!!
If Anthony Bourdain was still with us, he’d have a heyday at this place. The most unassuming dive spot next to the airport with dumplings that rival ones you’d find in Chinatown (seriously, I’m from NYC!). They’re made by a Chinese woman who wound up in Vieques via her husband. The steamed pork dumplings and fried lobster & crab rangoons are to die for...so much so that we ordered an extra serving to-go. They’re served with homemade soy sauce and fresh ginger from the island. Such an awesome off-the-beaten-path experience in Vieques.
Have known Lyman for over 25years, he is a great guy and I always look forward to visiting Isla Nena Cafe when we arrive, depart (and several times during our stay on island!). Service is great, and the food is good! Love the coconut shrimp and general Tso's chicken! Fun spot to watch football and/or enjoy pre-flight drinks and food. Princie the bird is the cutest, and loves to eat your last french fry! We love you Lyman, see you on our next visit!! 🦜✈️🍺🍟🍤🏝️
My husband and I had a great time here while waiting for our flight. We didn’t get to meet the owner but loved our server/bartender. Had a great time meeting some of the regulars and got some good inside tips and tricks. Totally worth getting to this tiny airport early with!

This place is awesome. Super good eats. The entertainment is by Lyman, the bar tender. A real hoot and easy to argue with. His wife, the owner, cooks like a mona lisa and is a pretty as the best sunset.
Awesome and convenient spot to hang out while waiting for a plane. The dumplings were authentic and surprised me on how good they were! Great staff and crowd.
Most chill atmosphere and chill bartender ! Lovely afternoon with steam dumplings and steak sandwich ! Best margarita so far in the island for me !!!

Pleasantly surprised for a small place behind the airport. The steamed dumplings were quite good and the empanadas weren't bad either. There's a crowd of regulars at the bar and a friendly cockatiel who eats French fries.
Great way to wait for your flight! Fresh breezes, good drinks and food, yet, a bit pricey!
It's a Bar and Grill at the airport. Prices reflect that. Cash or Venmo only. Excellent friendly service and observation deck. Entrance is outside the main airport "terminal".
FYI! They only take cash or Venmo! We had some dumplings and a quesadilla. The quesadilla came with cilantro inside (which was a surprise to my sister) she did not end up finishing because of that. I ordered the steamed dumplings but shortly after I got them- our flight was getting ready to take off early- so I had to rush eat them! Their bird is super cute and I got to give him a treat. Seems like a place for old rich white folk regulars- otherwise they are packer fans which is the VIBE! Go pack go
Fun place to chill while we waited for our flight back to the main island.
Música todos los viernes. Idioma en Inglés. Con comida y barra.
Se come muy bien

A chill and convenient location for people who has extra time for their flight. They have authentic homemade dumplings. I would suggest steamed ones.

We stopped in on our last day in Vieques to grab something to eat and wait for our charter plane to Ceiba. We figured it was way better than waiting in the depressing little airport! What a nice surp…
A friendly owner / bar keeper and the bar food was tasty. A waiting place for your flight with a bite, limited bar type menu. The fresh pork dumplings were amazing. The cans of Coke needed the lid rinsed off of debris. Beer options didn't include any local craft options. Not much to say about the location and ambiance as it's just old tables under some stretched sun shades. One table was really showing its age.
Irish bar in Vieques frequented by mostly expats and people flying out of Vieques; the airport is right next door. Strong drinks and good dumplings. I was advised by a local to eat there when the Asian lady is cooking. The dumplings were a bit limp but tasty.
Weird atmosphere, really over priced food (my quesadilla with YELLOW CHEESE was 15.75 !!) that wasn’t really great, the owner wasn’t mean but I get where other comments come from, he seems very aggressive although the woman who brought us the food was very sweet. Overall, food was not worth the price and the atmosphere was the least Puerto Rican, most American you could get.
We just came here to grab some water and a coke before our flight back to Ceiba, and it did the job. It's really divey, with very old and cheap chairs/tables. I see now that some of the reviews say that the owner/bartender is rude and racist, which is terrible to learn about after the fact. Nobody should feel "othered" when visiting this little airport bar, especially if you are a native Puerto Rican and/or Spanish speaker. Disappointing.

The worst and most hostile environment I’ve ever been in. The owner slash bartender felt the need to yell at customers because they did not order quickly enough for him. He then proceeded to curse an…
Extremely hostile and racist bar tender. Very unprofessional. Called several potential customers “pieces of ——-” for not ordering promptly. This guy seems extremely unstable and may be on the verge…
Went here looking for food and there was just a man in crap clothes making drinks out of idk what 🙅♀️ nothing like the photos I left rite away
Hubby and I went here before our flight. All was offered was American food. I saw online that they had seafood, but since the owner was not there today the cook didn't do any of the fish and chips or fresh fish we were looking for. They didn't even have shrimp. They came recommended by someone in town, but I would call to make sure that they have fresh food before coming.
The owner called us derogatory names for sitting for awhile before ordering. He ran five other guests off that had just walked up and proceeded to tell all of his bar guests that he was so tired of people taking up his chairs and not ordering. We had two hours before our flight and were just moments away from ordering drinks. The five other guests said they were also deciding what they should order. The names he called us were disgusting. He said it all to his regular bar guests and said it loud enough for us to hear him on purpose. We decided to walk away instead of giving him any buisness.
I would leave zero stars if I could. The rudest and most disrespectful treatment I have ever received. Extremely hostile and rude, not to mention racist against natives. Being that he is not from the island nor was actively speaking the language and also the fact that the people who were seated at his bar were all Americans who looked and spoke just like him sent the clear message that locals of brown skin were not welcome. Hit him where it hurts and don’t give this guy business. Send the message that they can’t come to our island and treat us this way.
The server is extremely angry and nasty. He refused to let us sit at a table because we were going to order drinks only. His tone was very hostile and aggressive for no reason. Wish there was an option for zero stars....I haven't experienced such nasty customer service anywhere else.
I really hate writing reviews like this, but this establishment is such a poor representation of Vieques that I feel obligated to warn others. The island is known for its incredible warmth, which made the sheer hostility I experienced here genuinely shocking. Right off the bat, the atmosphere is deeply off-putting. They have bird cages on the property that are absolutely filthy and look like they haven't been cleaned in months. It is sad to see and honestly just gross. They are also a cash-only spot. Sometimes that means you have found a great local dive, but here it just adds to an already unaccommodating experience. The absolute worst part of the visit, however, was the obvious racial profiling. If you do not fit into their specific preferred demographic, expect to be treated terribly. The bartender I interacted with was incredibly rude and made it entirely clear I was not welcome. Avoid like the plague.
We had come by to take a seat and the owner rudely told us to leave since there was a bingo game happening in 30 minutes. 70% of the seats were empty and we saw a couple with suitcases enter the cafe right after us with no problem. The owner very clearly discriminates with which guests are allowed.
I wouldn’t rely on this place being available if you have to wait for a flight. The owner said that airport folk aren’t welcome today (Sunday 1pm) because he is having a bridge tournament with cruise ship passengers. When we tried to order something to go from the staff, the owner said that we had 20 minutes to get out. Super rude.
Says doesn’t close until 7, arrived at 6 after long trip to “sorry no food”
Heard a game of bingo as I was waiting for my flight. Walked down and noticed people (all white) playing bingo, wanted to join , bartender said no and the kitchen was about to close. No biggie, ill get a drink. I started speaking with two older gentleman sitting at the bar, friendly conversation. Bartender was being a bartender “what do you want?”, got my drink and was able to get a fish taco (left a $5 tip). As I found myself a seat, everyone was watching me and my husband. My husband is cutie but damn these weren’t eyes of admiration, these were tense looks that didn’t make us feel comfortable. This lady who looked like Al Bundy’s wife, just wouldn’t stop staring!! Until I gave her the classic smile and hello 😑 Now seeing brown people isn’t some rare sighting, y’all literally live in Puerto Rico. But this bar definitely gives off a “your not welcomed” vibe. Fish taco had a piece of hair in it. I like to hope it was an eyelash but my husband swears it was too thick to be an eyelash. We left after that… Food was a 1 (I did have a bite, it was okay but that hair was a bad) Service was a 2 (again all he did was ask for my order and tell me bingo was closed) Atmosphere was a -100 (I wish I could give negative stars).
Solo cash, cervezas calientes, comida mala.
Desastre! Poca higiene
