Opinions de Kaz Teryaki Grill San Mateo
This place is a very grab and go teriyaki spot. The sauce wasn’t great on the food. It made the food taste a little weird but overall it was still 10 out of 10. Service was great employees were very friendly and welcoming. The shop overall was pretty clean for it to be a corner shop. I like the concept that it is right next to a supermarket so you have more variety drink options. Price wise was reasonable wasn’t super expensive for the portion size. They were offering us would definitely come back to try a different item on the menu.
Every chance I get in San Mateo I get a bowl and while I wait I grab a drink from the market next door and head to Central Park and enjoy my meal! Delicious
We love this place for a quick lunch or dinner. It’s been around for decades - a true downtown San Mateo staple. Our go-tos are the chicken teriyaki or Tonkatsu/chicken katsu bentos. We usually go the bento route because the pasta salad is to die for. Hawaiian style pasta salad with imitation/California roll style crab meat in it. We love it so much we recently did a blog post on it. A true 5 stars.
I love their grilled teriyaki chicken here. Ask for no skin for a healthier option. Chicken karaage is pretty good too. Miso soup is also comforting on cold nights.

Went to this place on a whim and was pleased with the food. I got the Korean BBQ chicken Was cooked really good and really big portion. Would go back!
One of the only places in the Bay Area that you can get traditional Chicken Katzu Don made with dashi, egg and onion. I have dreamt about this dish and living in the East Bay it’s hard for me to get it. Apparently they are still open over 25 years later…I might have to make a pilgrimage.
Good beef teriyaki bento for around $15 at San Mateo downtown Kaz teriyaki grill on 3rd Street area. Can be busy and challenging to find convenient parking but worth it.
I go regarded for the a la carte 🐯. Kaz has a special place in my heart and I hope y'all try anything grilled there. I promise you can order a flip flop from the menu and it would taste better than most teriyakis in the area hands down. I left a review.thats how much I love it.
One of my favorite spots in town. Simple, delicious, and light. You cannot go wrong here.

This is a takeout place so who cares about the ambiance. Amazing bento boxes. Consistent for 20+ years.

Mainly for takeouts. They offer no tables or seats as the store is very small. Once you order, wait outside nearby to hear to server call your name. You can choose to stay inside the store but it’s very crammed. Quick service for to-go. The food was decent. Not outstanding but not so bad. It’s good for a quick dinner on the days you’re busy or not feeling like cooking.
I bought a RIBEYE BEEF TERIYAKI BOUL and 2 ALOHA MAID Guava Nectar drinks in a can. It was delicious and satisfying if you ask me. The cashier called my number 109 through a speaker while I waited outside. Thanks for the Great Costumer Service and the Tasty food. If only I could have had a more clear view into the little oven that is used for the cooked meats. (NEAR THE FRONT DOOR).

I’ve only been here once so I think I just got unlucky but both of my burgers were moldy ): Unfortunately can’t get a refund unless I go all the way back because it’s a cash only establishment. Food seemed like it was going to be good, came out fast, and was pretty cheap so 3 stars still. Will give it another try later and update my review.
I got 2 veg yakisoba. Both my daughter & I didn't like it. It had too much sauce and was way too sweet. I suggest asking for less sauce.

The portions here are very large, but the flavors didn’t quite suit my taste
Takeout shop with bentos and bowls. All the basics like gyoza, teriyaki chicken, katsu, curry, etc. It gets a steady stream of business at lunchtime, so you can expect to wait 10-20 mins to order and get your food. The food is OK - TBH a little pricey for what you get.

I used to have good food here, however the food quality and their handling of the food has gone down recently. The last time I was here, they were handling food without gloves. I found that utterly disgusting. We got a Chicken Katsu sandwich and a Chicken Karage bowl, the food tasted well but the food handling just let it all down for us. It’s at the intersection right next to the Japanese supermarket. I don’t think I’ll be back here. It’s saddening to see this place go downhill. They’ve drinks as well—soda and teas among others.

Can’t believe I paid $11.99 today for the lunch and ask curry on the side . The pork chop is over cooked . Not worth for the price They only accept cash I don’t think they care about food quality. They only care about receiving money ( cash in )

I have been here 15+ times and never had any issues. However, today when we ordered a worker cut my chicken katsu without any gloves on, then proceeded to put raw meat on the grill also without gloves and then resumed preparing our chicken curry without washing their hands or putting on gloves. They also spilled salad on the counter and put it in my box. We will not be returning.
This is pretty much one of the worst Asian fast food takeout places I've been to in a while. It's not Japanese run, they overcook everything, it doesn't taste good, breading isn't done properly, and everything is soggy. And it's not cheap! Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else so these guys go out of business and a better place opens in their place!
Customer service was ok but I guess business was slow so they give you the tail end of the salmon instead. I should've opened it before I took it home to eat it. I will not support Kaz again after these past 5 years giving them my business. Business and food portions are going downhill. Also change of new employees working there as well.
